Montreal stunned Carolina 6–2 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final, swarming the Hurricanes with four first-period goals and exposing signs of rust after Carolina’s 12-day layoff, as Rod Brind’Amour admitted his team wasn’t ready for the Canadiens’ pace, long stretch passes and relentless transition game. Cole Caufield’s quick response goal after Carolina scored 33 seconds in shifted momentum immediately, as the Canes aggressive play allowed Montreal to repeatedly generate breakaways. Carolina will need a bounce-back in Game 2, especially from Frederik Andersen and a Jacob Slavin, who struggled through a difficult night. Out West, Vegas opened with an upset win over Colorado thanks to a stellar performance from Carter Hart and the massive absence of injured Cale Makar, whose uncertain status now looms over the series. John Tortorella appears energized in his new role with Vegas after recognizing Philadelphia needed a different voice for its rebuild. Discussion then turns to the Maple Leafs’ coaching search, with the suggestion that Toronto should think beyond short-term fixes and consider talented but inexperienced candidates from the AHL and NHL assistant ranks.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Montreal Canadiens came out flying in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final, stunning the Carolina Hurricanes with a statement road win. Jason Gregor and Mike Rupp break down how the Habs exploited Carolina's aggressive style, why Cole Caufield and Ivan Demidov finding their offense changes everything, and whether the Hurricanes should actually be worried after one game.Plus, the guys dive into the Western Conference Final after Vegas took Game 1 over Colorado. How much of an impact is Cale Makar's injury concern having on the Avalanche? Should Colorado already be considering a goalie change? And are the Golden Knights getting underrated contributions from Pavel Dorofeyev and Brett Howden? Also discussed:Freddie Andersen & Colorado's goalie situationWhy Montreal's confidence is growing fastVegas capitalizing on Colorado's mistakesThe Memorial Cup and changing CHL/NCAA landscapeMacklin Celebrini's next contract projectionOffseason goalie carousel rumors
The Montreal Canadiens are heading to the Eastern Conference Final after another dramatic Game 7 win, but the challenge only gets tougher from here. Montreal now faces a rested Carolina Hurricanes team that swept its first two playoff rounds and will have home-ice advantage in the series. In this episode, we preview the Habs vs. Canes matchup, break down what Montreal needs to do to slow down Carolina's pressure game, and discuss whether the Canadiens can keep this playoff run alive. We also look at the biggest storylines, key players, goaltending, special teams, and whether Montreal's regular-season success against Carolina can carry over into the playoffs after sweeping the season series 3-0 and outscoring them 15-8. The Canadiens survive another Game 7. After watching Buffalo force overtime, Montreal found a way once again, with Alex Newhook scoring the winner and Jakub Dobes bouncing back with a massive performance in net. In this episode, we break down the chaos of Game 7, Newhook's clutch moment, Dobes' response after Game 6, and how the Canadiens punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Final. The Montreal Canadiens had Game 6 exactly where they wanted it. Up 3-1 at the Bell Centre with a chance to close out the series, it looked like they were on their way to the Eastern Conference Final. Then everything fell apart. In this episode, we break down Montreal's shocking 8-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, the seven unanswered goals, Jakub Dobes getting pulled, Rasmus Dahlin's historic five-point night, Buffalo's dominant power play, and what this collapse means heading into Game 7. With the series now tied, the Canadiens' season comes down to one game in Buffalo. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See https://pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Montreal took a 3–2 series lead over Buffalo, in part, by sticking with Jakub Dobes despite a rough first period and a bad third goal against, a decision by Martin St. Louis and goalie coach Marco Marciano that paid off as Dobes settled in and the Habs rolled to a 6–3 win with offence throughout the lineup. Cole Caufield appears to have found his game, while Buffalo’s stars have been too quiet and the Sabres may need line changes and better discipline heading into a potentially chaotic Game 6 at the Bell Centre. Vegas eliminated Anaheim as Mitch Marner scored what the guys called the goal of the playoffs on an outrageous between-the-legs move, while the Ducks still showed major progress this season despite needing more defensive structure and experience. In Edmonton, the Oilers fired Kris Knoblauch just before his extension was set to begin after reports leaked the team unsuccessfully sought permission to speak with Bruce Cassidy, making the situation feel messy and leaving names like Craig Berube and Peter Laviolette in the mix. Toronto also moved on from Berube as new GM John Chayka appears focused on hiring a younger, more data-driven coach, with Kris Knoblauch, Jay Woodcroft and David Carle among the names discussed. Meanwhile, Vancouver revamped its front office by naming the Sedin twins co-presidents of hockey ops and promoting Ryan Johnson to GM, while questions remain about whether the Canucks can keep Manny Malhotra in the organization amid growing interest in him as a head coach elsewhere.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Host Brenden Escott takes a tour around the NHL playoff landscape and the league's biggest storylines in a jam-packed hockey conversation with the big boss over at SiriusXM NHL Network Radio, Peter Berce. The episode opens in Edmonton, where frustration continues to build after Evan Bouchard was left off the Norris Trophy finalist list despite another elite offensive season from the blue line. Was this simply a stacked year for candidates, or does Bouchard still face hurdles in how his overall game is perceived league-wide? The discussion then shifts to the broader state of the Edmonton Oilers and the mounting pressure surrounding a Stanley Cup-or-bust roster. How much scrutiny should be placed on management and coaching, and just how warm are the seats of GM Stan Bowman and head coach Kris Knoblauch as expectations continue to rise in Northern Alberta? In Toronto, chaos and excitement seem to be colliding at once. The Leafs followed one of the most polarizing press conferences in recent memory — surrounding the hiring of John Chayka and Mats Sundin — by winning the NHL Draft Lottery. The episode explores the public reaction to the moves, the debate now taking place inside Toronto's draft room and whether the Leafs should prioritize organizational need or simply take the best player available with the top selection. The Stanley Cup Playoffs also remain front and centre, with analysis of Montreal's Game 1 loss to Buffalo in the second round. What has stood out about the Canadiens' surprising playoff run, and how critical is it for Cole Caufield to rediscover his scoring touch? Plus, the Anaheim Ducks stun Vegas with a bounce-back win in the desert. What does Anaheim's response say about the belief and resilience of this young group? It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' Pacific Division chase, Connor McDavid's 50-goal chase, line combinations, injury updates, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about Connor McDavid, and what is more likely to happen: the captain hits 50 goals or wins another Hart Trophy. Given that Nathan MacKinnon has been the favourite all season long, everybody on the podcast seems to think it's too late in the season for McDavid to get the attention he deserves. Even though McDavid has gone supernova, there seems to be voter fatigue about Connor winning again.Shifting gears, Tyler went on a rant about Cole Caufield getting love for scoring a "clean 50" goals without a single empty-netter. As you'll hear, Caufield's milestone is being celebrated as unique, but Tyler's research showed that it actually happens much more often than people might expect. Macklin Celebrini’s four-point night has dragged the San Jose Sharks back into the playoff picture as they now sit just one point out. It's basically a 5-team race for the final wildcard berth in the west and while the Winnipeg Jets are now two points back and surging, the Nashville Predators seem to be fading, and all the teams involved continue to root against overtime in head-to-head matchups. Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers seem to be peaking at the perfect time despite Leon Draisaitl’s absence due to injury, with a potential division title still in play and his expected early playoff return looming large. The Ottawa Senators’ goaltending remains a concern after Linus Ullmark’s missed starts and shaky outings, raising offseason questions despite the stability his signing was expected to bring. The Montreal Canadiens are red-hot with six straight wins, strong goaltending, and breakout performances from Cole Caufield (47 goals) and Juraj Slafkovsky, signalling a promising trajectory for the club. In Toronto, the GM search is underway following Brad Treliving’s firing, with major roster decisions potentially hinging on Auston Matthews’ long-term intentions amid a thin prospect pool and limited short-term help available.
