This week, a park icon gets an update, a rare character encounter lands at Pixar Place Hotel, we talk about Earth Day at the resort, the 70th guided tour details are released and booking is open for it, a new checkout option for Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta, we finish out conversation with Michael, and more! News: An iconic part of Disneyland history – and Disney in general will be getting refurbished soon. Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room closed this week to perform routine maintenance on the lighting, sound, and show. The mighty tree of Tangaroa will be recreated from a high resolution digital scan. The current Tangaroa is no longer able to be repaired, having been there since the attraction opening in 1963. The attraction will reopen later this summer. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/tangaroa-tree-be-rebuilt-during-upcoming-refurbishment-walt-disneys-enchanted-tiki-room-disneyland/ https://www.micechat.com/146135-rolly-crump-impostor-syndrome-part-2/ Tour dates are open for the new guided tour coming to Disneyland for the 70th anniversary. A Story of Celebration: 70th Anniversary Guided Tour is a 2-hour guided walking tour, which includes a ride aboard the Mark Twain, Disneyland Railroad, a Lightning Lane for a select attraction, reserved viewing for Paint the Night, which includes popcorn, and a tour keepsake. The price is $120 per guest. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance and are highly recommended. Check out the link in the show notes to reserve your tour! – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ https://disneyland.disney.go.com/en-ca/events-tours/disneyland/story-of-celebration-tour/ A character not often seen at the resorts made a visit for Earth Day. WALL-E was in the lobby of the Pixar Place Hotel roaming around and greeting guests. He also opened up his storage compartment to share the plant, potted in the boot, just like in the movie! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/04/24/dear-disney-we-are-begging-for-this-rare-character-meet-and-greet-to-become-permanent/ As we reported on previously, some permits have been filed with the Anaheim Planning and Building Department in relation to Porto's coming to Downtown Disney. We talked about removing the two ticket booths from the esplanade, but did not mention the permit to tear down the existing building – currently home to Earl of Sandwich. No timeline on the permits, but this is forward progress. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ Once again, Disneyland Cast Members were invited to create upcycled art projects to be shown off to guests for Earth Month. This time, the creations, ranging from a Haunted Mansion created from cardboard pizza boxes, to Maleficent in dragon form made from plastic cutlery. The display is under the Silly Symphony Swings for guests to enjoy. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ This week, the Disney Parks Blog recognized a cast member who brings joy to countless (or not so countless) guests. Antonio has been working at the Disneyland Resort for 18 years, and has received over 735 cast compliments from guests. Antonio works at Pixar Pier attractions and before Disneyland, worked for nearly 10 years in hospitality in Dubai and Qatar. Antonio's rise to fame is in part due to his exuberant energy and fun dance moves for guests! – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/dancing-disneyland-resort-cast-member-inspires-happiness/ Last week, we talked about recycling your food scraps at Disneyland. Since then, little droids have appeared on top of food scraps containers to remind guests that only food scraps should be deposited in the bin they are standing on. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ A new way to checkout at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta has arrived. A kiosk for guest self-checkout has been installed. The system scans the items on the tray, adds it up, and asks for payment. Currently, Magic Key discounts must involve a cast member, and payment can only be made with credit or debit card. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ Weeklyteers who may be in the parks starting May 9th should know that it is Grad Nite season at the resort again, and park hours may be impacted. This year, there is some new, more generic graduation merchandise available for purchase. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ SnackChat: New food items coming to the resort – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/04/24/disney-just-announced-23-new-treats-are-coming-next-week/#more-1028273 Discussion Topic: Michael Holland host of From Out of the Past Podcast https://www.instagram.com/fromoutofthepastpodcast https://linktr.ee/hollandimaginarium https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK7GRiUhhB8 https://www.youtube.com/@AlextheHistorian

News: Star Wars Celebration Japan just wrapped up and there were some new details about changes coming to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Starting on May 22, 2026, guests will have more control over their experience piloting the Millennium Falcon. Crews will be in charge of the destination that they travel to. New locations like Bespin, the wreckage of the second Death Star around Endor, or Coruscant will be options. The engineers will also be able to communicate with Grogu. These additions will coincide with the theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/the-mandalorian-grogu-and-new-crew-controls-coming-to-smugglers-run/ https://blogmickey.com/2025/04/new-locations-smugglers-run-mandalorian-update-2026/ April is Earth Month, and this year Disneyland is doing something unique. Guests are being encouraged to participate in the Food Scraps program. The program takes uneaten food and turns it into nutrient-rich feed for farm animals. Galactic Grill, Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree, Cafe Daisy, Pym Test Kitchen, Flo's V8 Cafe, and Cozy Cone Motel are participating. Guests are given a green food scraps container to place leftover food into, which can then be emptied into a green food-only receptacle. – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ An unexpected, but fun activity appeared in Toon Town this week. Signs for a missing churro have been posted around the land, with a phone number to call. When called, Donald Duck picks up and talks about his missing churro. – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ Fans of the Disneyland Starbucks tumblers have a new variation. This tumbler comes with one of two mystery pins. The tumbler itself is brightly colored with graphics depicting Disneyland attractions like the Tiki Room, it's a small world, Haunted Mansion, and more! – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ https://disneypinsblog.com/starbucks-tumbler-with-mystery-pin-pouch-at-disney-parks/?srsltid=AfmBOopOzc7lOklM6rS3y2mYUX5rGfb_HfVZ_C2MA-l8dLMuGyn_ghAh With the recent uncertainty from international travelers from outside the United States, Disney has created some hotel and theme park ticket deals. Currently, there is a SoCal Resident Ticket offer through May 15th, and a Disneyland Anniversary 4-day Ticket valid from May 16th through August 14th from $100 per day. – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ The fires at the beginning of the year in the Southern California area were tragic, and impacted so many. Disney committed $15 million to the effort back in January. Disney has added “Disney Field Days” where they go and bring carnivals with characters, games, activities, and more to locations impacted. Recently, two schools in Brentwood, Disney cast members and VoluntEARS put on these events – to over 900 students. Two people who lost special items in the fires got a version of them back. One eight-year-old lost her giant stuffed Tigger in the fire, Disney replaced it with one that had traveled around Disney's Animal Kingdom. A teacher, who lost her Disney-themed classroom in the fire, including her collection of mouse ears, was presented with over 50 ears from Disney Parks, stores, and VoluntEARS. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/la-fire-relief-efforts-how-disney-helps-the-communities-we-call-home/ SnackChat: New Sweets – https://www.instagram.com/p/DIwawmMx3iH/?img_index=7 Discussion Topic: Michael Holland host of From Out of the Past Podcast https://www.instagram.com/fromoutofthepastpodcast/ https://linktr.ee/hollandimaginarium https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK7GRiUhhB8 https://www.youtube.com/@AlextheHistorian

For the next installment in our That Was Then series, Paul and Arlo cast their minds back to 1964–a year that predates both of them, though the era's Beatlemania might as well be Arlo's spiritual birthplace. This time, they're popping paisley parasols for Jacques Demy's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, a sung-through opera told in the style of a Hollywood musical with some of the most stunning colors you'll ever see. Hollywood extraordinaire and From Out of the Past host Michael Holland is on hand to help the boys discuss how the film defies romantic conventions while adhering to them, the magic of Jean Rabier's camerawork, the way Demy uses color to convey feeling, and why the film deserves to be mentioned alongside classics of the French New Wave.   NEXT: it's a mystery, gang!     BREAKDOWN 00:00:33  -  Intro / Guest / The Year 1964 00:21:00  -  The Umbrellas of Cherbourg 01:28:00  -  Outro / Next     LINKS From Out of the Past Podcast Holland_Imaginarium     MUSIC “Le Parapluies De Cherbourg” by Michel Legrand “Umbrella (feat. The Real Thing Review by Ned Raggett [-] Starting with the careening "From Out of Nowhere" driven by Roddy Bottum's doomy, energetic keyboards, Faith No More rebounded excellently on The Real Thing after Chuck Mosley's was fired. Given that the band had nearly finished recording the music and Mike Patton was a last minute recruit, he adjusts to the proceedings well. His insane, wide-ranging musical interests would have to wait for the next album for their proper integration, but the band already showed enough of that to make it an inspired combination. Bottum, in particular, remains the wild card, coloring Jim Martin's nuclear-strength riffs and the Bill Gould/Mike Bordin rhythm slams with everything from quirky hooks to pristine synth sheen. It's not quite early Brian Eno-joins-Led Zeppelin-and-Funkadelic, but it's closer than one might think, based on the nutty lounge vibes of "Edge of the World" and the Arabic melodies and feedback of "Woodpeckers from Mars." "Falling to Pieces," a fractured anthem with a delicious delivery from Patton, should have been a bigger single that it was, while "Surprise! You're Dead!" and the title track stuff riffs down the listener's throat. The best-known song remains the appropriately titled "Epic," which lives up to its name, from the bombastic opening to the concluding piano and the crunching, stomping funk metal in between. The inclusion of a cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" amusingly backfired on the band -- at the time, Sabbath's hipness level was nonexistent, making it a great screw-you to the supposed cutting-edge types. However, all the metalheads took the song to heart so much that, as a result, the quintet dropped it from their sets to play "Easy" by the Commodores instead! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/comics-in-motion-podcast/message

A woman with a penchant for exploring empty houses begins to unearth a sinister secret when she finds a pair of red shoes in an abandoned home. [ORIGINAL PATREON AIR DATE: 12/31/2021]We deliberately didn't cover this album on our original ELO episode, but we're finally getting to it now. This record is the soundtrack to the box office flop of the same name, Xanadu. Aside from starring Olivia Newton-John, we don't know much about the movie, but the soundtrack isn't too bad! At least the ELO half isn't. The first half is pure Olivia Newton-John, so take that how you will. The two collaborate on only one song here, just in case you were expecting the most 80s supergroup ever. "Do Not Regret Growing Older, It Is A Privilege Denied to Many" is the defiant wording on one of the works by Taranaki textile artist Jeanette Verster in an exhibition called I Haven't Lost My Marbles (Yet). The title's taken from her embroidery of a head with a brain filled with shiny green marbles. It's part of what Jeanette calls "an ABC for the unyoung", the opposite of all those first ABC books for children. She tells Lynn Freeman she came up with the idea before the pandemic but believes it's super timely to ask why our senior society is important to us. Jeanette's exhibition is on at the From Out of The Blue studio gallery in Opunake, South Taranaki. Its aim is to teach and nurture traditional textile practices - from embroidery and painting to paper making and knitting - while at the same time encouraging them to be used in new ways.

Want new weird fiction? How about old and obscure weird ghost stories from 1920 by Bessie Kyffin-Taylor in her only collection, From Out of the Silence. I picked this up at the Merrickville used book store and loved every page. It is a wonder that I've not heard of her before, so I am pleased to have found this. It is a Typical Book that you can find a copy of here: https://gothictexts.wordpress.com/2013/10/09/from-out-of-the-silence-1920-by-bessie-kyffin-taylor/ Buy the book ▹ https://bookshop.org/shop/typicalbooksor via Amazon Affiliate: https://amzn.to/2UABXur From the back jacket: A rare and highly regarded collection of the ghostly and strange "The author of this collection of tales of the supernatural, Lady Bessie Kyffin-Taylor, undertook few forays into the realms of the fiction of the ghostly and other worldly and the result is this book of seven short stories, From out of the Silence. Originally published in an undated edition, but believed to have been released around 1920, the collection appeared just two years before the author's death. Kyffin-Taylor's style is judged by some to be reminiscent of the acclaimed writer of supernatural tales E. F. Benson, and must therefore be of interest to any aficionado of the genre, because the comparison elevates the quality of these tales into heady company. That said, one might mourn the fact that Kyffin-Taylor's output was so small. So concise a volume, published so long ago and with such an uncertain history must be a rare find indeed on the antiquarian market, and so the Leonaur editors are doubly pleased to make it more widely available by including it in the Leonaur Collected Supernatural and Weird Fiction series. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket." I have a story in Local Haunts! Join host Doug McKenty as he discusses the tactics and techniques the elite use to effectively control the mass of the population in order to dominate and control for their benefit with Duane Hayes, creator of the blog "From Out of the Hayes." Listen as they dive deep into the history of elite foundations and their undeniable influence on mass education, commercialism, social planning and even music and entertainment designed to herd the mass of individuals into a corporate culture intentionally constructed to ensure a destiny of hard labor and indebtedness to the company store. While many see the elite as "capitalists" intent on using the free market to control the means of production, the history revealed in this episode presents a concerted attempt by the upper classes to create a centrally controlled economy with corporate/government power at the top of the pyramid. In conclusion, Duane presents the basics of a Trivium education which teaches individuals to recognize mind control and assert their personal power by using critical thinking techniques to escape the influence of the brainwashing elite. The longtime leader of ELO talks with All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen about his creative process, working with his heroes, like Roy Orbison, and his latest album, From Out of Nowhere.Jeff Lynne has been crafting classic rock songs for more than 50 years. Many first heard him as part of The Move, a Beatle-esque British band in the late '60s. That creative outfit morphed into Electric Light Orchestra, taking their guitar, piano, and drum-based pop music and adding strings and synthesizers. ELO became a big band with a giant sound. The first ELO record was released precisely 48 years ago, on December 3, 1971. Nowadays, Jeff Lynne is ELO. Except for a few helping hands, Jeff Lynne writes, records, sings, plays and arranges everything on his new album, From Out of Nowhere, on his own. And he loves doing it.

"It's been received ridiculously well," enthused Bulletboys frontman and founding member Marq Torien on the Los Angeles rock machines 12th album, From Out of the Skies. "People are ecstatic about it. I've been getting so many amazing interviews and reviews which is great because we took some risks on this record..."Bulletboys will be in Australia for the first time ever next month, a fact made even more surprising by the fact they have been a band since 1987, with Torien warning fans to brace themselves for a musical onslaught."You can expect anything and everything," he promised. "We're a bunch of naughty gentlemen (laughs). Please don't fear the villains because we're fun-loving villains and we're coming out there to turn it up to 15. We're a monstrously energetic band so get ready to see a real rock band perform. We also play extremely loud so please bring your ear plugs."One thing with a band making their debut appearance on our shores is we don't know exactly what to expect, but that also works in reverse."No we don't really," laughed Torien, "so we're looking forward to it. I have so much love for your country and the people are just amazing and passionate. I can't wait to get out there and show what this little band from Southern California can do and blow the roof off the places we're playing!"To find out exactly what risks Bulletboys took on their new album, plus the complexities of trying to outdo yourself musically with each record as well as an insight into recording with Dave Grohl plus a look into the history of this underrated band tune into the audio.Kris Peters

Though Marq and his band may have slowed down, they never completely went away. They've been enjoying a creative resurgence recently with their excellent comeback album Elefante from 2015 and their brand new disc From Out of the Skies which was released last week. It’s the New Style for the New Year You’ll notice a change immediately during the theme song; an abrupt belch which is a sign of something new. We’re giving this whole live recording thing a shot and you’ll hear everything in this episode warts-n-all including Aaron and Chris stumbling over words, getting tongue tied, and sound effects going off without warning. It’s as unprofessional as it gets but at least it’s entertaining. Plus, Chris doesn’t have to play around with hours of editing so hopefully this will be a welcome change that will provide more content in the future. We start out talking about what we got for KISSMAS including Aaron’s review of the Ace Frehley autobiography, ‘No Regrets’ and the cool new Rocksmith game. We update Vinnie Vincent’s output for the holidays. Impressive! Chris gives a shout out to Cassius Morris from the Creatures of the Net podcast who recently did an impromptu interview with Eric Singer who called in during his live stream. Cassius is only 13 years old but is already on his way to becoming a big name in podcasting.  Congrats to Cassius! Flashback Time We share a cool radio commercial advertising the Sex Pistols tour of America in 1977 which leads to a discussion of the Sex Pistols impact in music as well as their reputation rubbing off on other punk bands like the Ramons. We also touch on a quick discussion of the G.G. Allin documentary Hated which documents all of the fecal-smearing, heroin-induced debauchery leading up to Allin’s death. Ramones in Kindergarten Chris shares his thoughts on a recent video that’s been sweeping youtube of a kindergarten class singing the Ramones’ classic ‘Judy is a Punk.’ It makes you feel all snuggly inside and gives hope to the world. There’s nothing that will renew your faith in mankind like a bunch of kids singing “perhaps they’ll die”….oh yeah! Corabi Rocks for Tots & a Cinderella Story Chris and Aaron reflect on their recent outing to see John Corabi’s Toys for Tots where they got to talk with Corabi as well as Jeff Labar from Cinderella; fresh off his hip-replacement surgery and filled us in on the possibility (or lack thereof) of new music from Cinderella. We recap the setlist and describe our trek over to a hipster bar invaded by metalheads with the strangest mix of songs from the jukebox you’ve ever heard. Van Halen & the Little People Chris & Aaron discuss the recent announcement of Van Halen’s new album and new single ‘Tattoo’ due next week. We’re totally excited to hear a song about the little guy from Fantasy Island (thanks to the guys from From Out of Nowhere for that joke). We also bemoan how much cooler this news would have been with Michael Anthony involved. Shameless Self-Promotion 101 & The Days of Axl’s Life The guys give their take on the recent induction of Guns N Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with a discussion of Eddie Trunk’s recent grilling of the CEO of Hall of Fame as well as the big question of who is going to show up for the ceremony. Will it be the old guys or the new guys? Or, will Axl’s ego be big enough on its own to fill the whole stage. They wind up rambling quite a bit so we hope you dig listening to these guys yack on and on about Axl and co. Chris & Aaron make the announcement of their expanding roles in the podcasting world as they will be contributing members of Podkisst, the leading KISS podcast as well as some contributions to the great Mars Attacks podcast for their Class Albums series. That’s our first foray into the recording live thingy. We promise we’ll get better at it. In the meantime, feel free to laugh at all of the mistakes. Smell ya later!

There was a time when “history” was the history of powerful people. Shakespeare captures this notion of history in the prologue to Henry V: O for a Muse of fire, that would ascend The brightest heaven of invention, A kingdom for a stage, princes to act And monarchs to behold the swelling scene! Then and for centuries afterward, princes were deemed the proper focus of the historical investigations. The history of history from about 1950 to the present has largely been one of “democratizing” that view of the past. Princes are still given their due, but now a host of previously invisible people are as well. In the hands of social historians, butchers, bakers, candlestick makers, male and female, European and non-European have all been given a written history. Our guest today, Vicki Ruiz, is one of the pioneers in this effort. Her path-breaking From Out of the Shadows: Mexican Women in Twentieth-Century America (Oxford UP, 1998; Tenth Anniversary Edition, 2008) shed light on the lives of one of these invisible groups for the first time. Through interviews and extensive documentary investigation, Vicki does a masterful job reconstructing the experiences of immigrant women who have gone by many names–Mexicanas, Tejanas, Chicanas, Hispanas among them. She describes in vivid detail how they negotiated the life passages of school, marriage, motherhood, and work while trying to balance the forces of assimilation and tradition. Though the book is about Mexican women, the theme resonates with the American immigrant experience more generally. Their story is our story. Read From Out of the Shadows and find out how. From out of the RainSynopsis After the old cinema "Electro" re-opens, the old scenes of a black and white film are interrupted by mysterious sequences which show a in the early before the . The Ghostmaker (the leader of the company) and Pearl ("the mermaid woman"), once captured on film, manage to escape it. witnesses the escape, noticing that two characters have suddenly disappeared from the film, and informs . The escaped characters start roaming the streets of Cardiff. They steal the last breath of innocent people, keeping their breath in a silver flask, leaving the victims only half alive with a heartbeat, but no breath. Torchwood starts investigating the casualties and begins research on these old travelling companies. Jack used to be a member of one of the companies, performing the act of "the man who couldn't die". He tells of the "Night Travellers", who perform only during night, and the mythology surrounding them, saying that 'young children were told to hold their breath while the travelling show passed by'. The ghosts begin to bring all their other travelling carnival fellows to our reality at the old cinema but, finally, it occurs to Jack that, being filmed again, the loosened entities may be recaptured onto celluloid. Effectively, Jack manages to achieve this with a , filming all the phantasmagoric creatures. He exposes the reel to the sun then, vanishing the carnival ghosts for ever. However, for its last act before disappearing, the Ghostmaker throws the open silver flask and, despite Ianto's quick catch, most of the human souls are lost in the air, so the -like affected victims of Cardiff die, except for a child. The silver flask ends up being stored by Jack in his safe at Torchwood. Though the threat of the Night Travellers has been stopped now, Jack speculates that there could be more films with their ghosts trapped inside, confirmed by a scene at a boot-sale where a man and his son purchase an old film reel. The metal case of the film is briefly opened and, back at the Hub, Jack hears a sliver of the Night Traveller's carnival music.
