We are back after a brief hiatus to recharge the batteries and I was joined by The New English Women's Amateur Champion Ellise Rymer who joined me from back home after a mental few weeks winning English Women's Amateur, making Final Qulifying for AIG Women's Open, while also making all 3 rounds at English Women's Open before due to go back to University life at University of Cincinatti in September. The pride of Lincolnshire, Ellise like most players would grow up playing most sports primarily Football before giving Golf a try. Ellise would win Scottish Under 16's Championship in Stirling before in 2022 finishing 5th at R&A Girls' Amateur Championship and also playing at World Junior Girls Championship in Canada. Ellise would also represent England at European Girls' Amateur Team Championship in 2023, while in 2025 would see a 3rd at St Rule Trophy in Scotland. 2026 has been a whirlwind for the Lincolnshire star winning Lincolnshire Women's County Championships, making her LPGA Tour debut at Kroger Queen City Championship where she managed to get some advice from none other than Charley Hull and finishing 53rd at English Women's Open in Manchester on LET Access Series. But none of that is in comparison to the week at Moor Park Golf Club where Ellise would run through the field to become the new English Women's Amateur Champion defeating Isabella Kent by 2up to win one of the most prestigious titles for every English player. Some say Ellise might still be in celebration mode for quite some time. If you love drivel also this podcast is for you as at the end we both go on a tangent of British TV iconic quotes, British Memes and of course the legendary Scottish Memes. Iconic! Thanks Ellise for agreeing to come on in your celebration period, had great fun. All the best back in the States pal. Download via Podbean, Apple Podcasts & Spotify.
In a fascinating conversation, Max Rymer, a member of the Minnesota State Legislature, joins the show to discuss the recent election results in Michigan and the implications for the Democratic Party. With the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) making significant gains in the state, Rymer shares his insights on the potential consequences for the party and the country. The conversation delves into the rise of DSA candidates, including Abdul al-Sayed and Rashida Tlaib, who won their respective primaries in Michigan. Rymer notes that the DSA's success is not just limited to Michigan, but is also a trend that's emerging in other states, including Minnesota and Wisconsin. He attributes this shift to the party's failure to connect with working-class voters and its inability to provide a clear alternative to the DSA's radical policies. Rymer also discusses the potential impact of the DSA's rise on the Democratic Party's ability to win elections in swing states. He notes that the party's reliance on ideologically extreme candidates may ultimately lead to their downfall, citing the example of Michigan, where a moderate candidate may have a better chance of winning. The conversation also touches on the role of social media and the influence of affluent, educated voters who are driving the DSA's success. Tune in to this episode to hear Max Rymer's expert analysis on the future of the Democratic Party and the implications of the DSA's rise. Baines, A., Poll, A., Baker, A. M., Krakauer, J. To close out Season 12 of Next on the Tee, I'm honored to welcome three wonderful friends who are also outstanding ambassadors of the game — Charlie Rymer, Suzy Whaley, and Hal Sutton — for a special year-end episode filled with gratitude, perspective, and great storytelling. We kick things off with Charlie Rymer, who shares an update on his health following his victorious battle with Stage 3 colon cancer. Charlie reflects on the faith, family support, and world-class care that helped carry him through. Then he takes us inside an exciting new project he's involved with in Greenville, Tennessee, including a golf course he's designing alongside Rees Jones — and yes, great food is part of the plan. Charlie also weighs in on the proposed changes to the PGA Tour and where he believes the game is headed. Next up, Suzy Whaley joins me for a conversation filled with positivity and pride. Positivity is pervasive throughout the Whaley family, which is why Suzy always makes every segment she's a part of so much fun. Suzy talks about captaining the U.S. team to victory at this year's Junior Ryder Cup, her nomination to the USGA Executive Committee, and her plans to compete in next summer's U.S. Senior Women's Open. We also discuss why the red, white, and blue suit her so well — and why her leadership future in American golf feels brighter than ever. Be sure to return for Part 2, when we wrap up the season with Hal Sutton. Hal shares updates from The Darmoor Club outside of Houston, reflects on Ryder Cup leadership and his choice of Jackie Burke Jr. as an assistant captain in 2004, and takes us back to the era of persimmon woods, blade irons, and balata golf balls — when artistry and imagination mattered as much as power. As we bring this season to a close, I want to say thank you — to all the wonderful guests for sharing their time, stories, and hearts throughout 2025… and to you, the listeners, for your loyalty, kindness, and support throughout the year. Next on the Tee exists because of the people who care about the game, its history, and one another. I'm deeply grateful you continue to press play, and I hope this episode sends you into the holidays feeling inspired, appreciative, and thankful for the many gifts this game — and this community — continue to give us. Thank you for being part of the Next on the Tee family.
