Liza and Jim took a trip to LA to take in as much of the SoCal motorcycle culture as they could, conducting interviews along the way. This show features some of the highlights. They start with the Custom Revolution exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum where Paul D'Orleans has helped to curate an exhibit of custom bikes from around the world. And with the Petersen's know how in displaying vehicles in new and insightful ways, you can spend hours staring and taking in all the details in craftsmanship. They also explore the other motorcycles throughout the museum, getting stories along the way, and even getting access to the bikes in the vault not currently on display. Next they visit the Garage Company, brain child of builder and collector Yoshi Kosaka. This place is a museum and a custom bike building wonderland. Definitely want to go back and spend more time there. They were fortunate to run into builder Jeremy Hutch, who they had met at the One Show in Portland. They sit down with Hutch and learn more about his background and building style. Lastly they visit the famed Lucky Wheels Garage, a co-op motorcycle space that immediately feels like coming home. They threw a little barbeque co-hosted with Junky Turdman from the Creative Riding Podcast, and ask the attendees Liza's favorite question. https://www.petersen.org/ http://www.garagecompany.com/ https://www.instagram.com/hutchbilt/?hl=en https://www.luckywheelsgarage.com/ http://creative-riding.com/WPMaster/podcast/ http://motorcyclesandmisfits.com/

Motorcycles, roasts, DIY garages, influencers, Giving a Shift about the future. This is episode 110. Hey, I didin’t even realize that the dumb dumb Superbowl was happening this weekend until I watched Jimmy Fallon just a few minutes ago. Is that still a thing? There is so much more happening this weekend, I hope I’m not alone when I say I’ll be out enjoying the twisties and blue skies. Before we begin, I’d like to encourage you to take a ride over to http://creative-riding.com/WPMaster/mugs-for-sale/ and use the link to buy yourself a mug from Zazzle! You’re worth it! In the spirit of the show, you can even customize it and send us pics. Part one: This week, we’re coming to you from another garage. Instead of a radical customs and scooter hop-up shop, we headed to downtown L.A. for a peek inside Lucky Wheels Garage. For those in the know, Lucky Wheels is a DIY shop that offers a place to hang as well as a place to wrench, build, and learn. You’ll hear more about it, so I don’t want to give it away, but let’s just say they are a big deal in Los Angeles’ motorcycle subculture. Ty and Jackson were gracious hosts, and we are grateful for their hospitality. Our guests are Diggs & Ghost, two young enthusiasts who love motorbikes, and decided to share their passion after their college days were over. They engage riders and non-riders alike through their humor and their YouTube videos. I saw them speak at the Give a Shift Happy Hour a couple of weeks ago, and now YOU get to hear their story, and learn what they are doing to make the two-wheeled life more livable. Part two: Roast my bike… Well, let’s just say we had some back up this time. There’s nothing like roasting a bike with 2 garage founders and 2 funny-guys around to help land blows. This time the victim is a helpless 2002 SV650 “Custom”. But aren’t they all? And what does “custom” really imply? Much thanks to listener Lawrence from Arizona (but we think you should root for the Chiefs instead of the Cardinals) for sending in his bike to get the (Kansas City) Royal treatment. Part three: Wiggins and I shoot the shit on our ride home from Lucky Wheels and talk about DIY garages, new riders, e-bikes, and you get to hear directions to his house via Waze. We also talk about other countries where people ride 50-125cc bikes with 12 people on them or drag race with nothing more than flip flops and shorts on. Part 4: I tell you what’s happening in the next few weeks even though I have no clue. And I leave you with the song that I promised you at the end of last week’s show. It’s by me. Don’t get excited. Check out Diggs and Ghost: http://diggsandghost.com/ also on FB and IG at @DiggsandGhost Check out Lucky Wheels: https://www.luckywheelsgarage.com/ https://www.luckywheelsgarage.com/lw-coffee also on FB and IG at @LuckyWheelsGarage Thanks for listening. On this episode we discuss listener feed back, e-mail, and other great input. We have a round of Instagram Shoutouts at the end of the show. Before we begin, I’d like to encourage you to take a ride over to http://creative-riding.com/WPMaster/mugs-for-sale/ and use the link to buy yourself a mug from Zazzle! You’re worth it! In the spirit of the show, you can even customize it and send us pics. We also plopped a sweet panty on our Zazzle store for Valentine’s Day. Part one: Coming to you from KCRMP 83.67 HzM late night DJ Memfiss Bluez reads us in with traffic and weather on the :05s. We have some listener feedback: A horn comparison from Rob Lawrence, some listener mail from Doug MacDonald. We also briefly touch on the continuing conversation regarding Give a Shift and how ALL things 2-wheeled can contribute to the movement. We recorded this week’s episode from Steady Garage (861 Meridian St, Duarte CA 91010). Steady Garage is a full service shop and manufacturing facility. They blow minds with 50cc Honda Ruckuses and make bespoke parts for Harley-Davidsons at the same time. Steady Co-Founder Kevin D. sits down and tells us the story of Steady Garage’s humble beginning. Part two: Roast my bike… Well, let’s just say we bring the kinder-care cut-downs this time. We fucking suck at this. The target this time is talented glass-blower, butterfly collector, and previous guest, Chris Singsime. Chris is a glutton for punishment with not one, BUT TWO(!?!) DRZ400e pieces of cheap shit. Who needs hills when you have Wisconsin? Remember Chris, this all comes from a place of love and comedy, and we just want you to know that we’re saying what others are saying when you’re neck deep in tacos and hot wings. While your’e listening to the show, go check out NitrousChris in instagram and facebook for your chance to see him traveling 175mph on a GSXR! Part three: We continue The Build, this time with a Steady Garage point of view. Turns out you might not even need a license or $1000 to get your sweet custom build on the streets. When you go small, the world is your oyster because anything under 125cc is often overlooked and discounted as Third World travel. Scooters and Groms have a lot of potential, and offer a platform that allows for easy customization and a great place to start learning to ride. Kevin offers up some pertinent information about how and what to start a custom Small Build with. We also talk about other countries where people ride 50-125cc bikes with 12 people on them or drag race with nothing more than flip flops and shorts on. Part 4: Kevin talks about some of the things that Steady Garage has in store for the future. From Joes Mini Bike Reunion to UMRA 24 hour endurance races, they have done it all already, but 2018 will prove to be another massive year for the crew. They want to add drag racing to their growing repertoire of activities, and expand their parts catalog offerings. Small bikes can be cheap, fun, and ultimately really fucking cool. If you get a chance to visit Irwindale Speedway, Flanders Racing (their industrial neighbor) or are cruising through the San Gabriel Valley in L.A. County, stop by and grab some parts for your Scoot or your H-D Bagger. Also you can expect a bit of filler at the end about e-bikes. They are like e-cigs, but for your butt. Thanks for listening. If you want to check out a gadget that will help you minimize wires and add electronic capabilities, check out the MotoGadget. Part two: Roast my bike… Well, let’s just say we bring the kindergarten insults to the table and TRY to make fun of Lance’s (sonofcorax on instagram) 2016 Triumph Rocket III in Crackle Blue Metallic. It’s harder than we thought, and in all honesty, we are the ones who deserve to be made fun of. Our jokes were pretty horrible, and the final score was: Rocket III = 1; Creative Riding chumps = 00. In my defense, I meant to say “Evel Knievel asked for a Triumph Rocket III for his last jump, because he had nothing left to lose”. This all comes from a place of love and comedy, and Lance & the Rocket III are both lovely Canadians who wanted to play along with the Roast my Bike game. Next time we’ll be funnierest, and we might pick a better looking bike that more people own. New phrase = ‘Just as Worse’. Part three: Lets get into the ‘Who’ and ‘Where’ to get parts for your bikes. Welcome to episode 50!!! In this episode, we celebrate our first anniversary. We'll be looking back on the most popular shows, guests, and count down the top five cities with the most listens. You can see the stats here: http://creative-riding.com/WPMaster/a-year-in-review/ We also review our guests over the last 12 months, and look forward to the next year of exciting interviews and news! I have a guest host - myself! We talk about the developments over the last year and how much we appreciate each and every listener. Over the next year we have some small plans but large aspirations in store for the show. much like the evolution of free riding becoming FMX, we're a ways off from our backflip. Rest assured, we're working on it. If you're interested in the guests, you can find their links below. Welcome to episode 47!! In this episode we talk about getting Motorcycling's foot back in the door. Becoming part of the sporting line-up. The public's Motorcycle psyche. Et cetera. On Monday, Germany dropped our drawers and bent us over with a proposed ban on gas/diesel (basically combustion) engines. http://creative-riding.com/WPMaster/germanys-ban-on-gasdiesel-in-2030/ On Tuesday, BMW dropped some F bombs up here in LA for the world to mull over for a bit. F-bombs referring to "Future" of course. And the future of motorcycling. Believe it or not - a lot of people copy BMW, not Honda. http://creative-riding.com/WPMaster/bmws-vision-for-next-100/ Finally, with all this talk of going all futuristic, there is the DIY tip that will tell you how to go full hippy and recycle/reuse/redefine! EP 41 - Noise! Welcome to another action packed show! Ride reports for Friday/Sat/Sun 1. Practiced low speed maneuvers to refresh my skills repertoire. Now that Lane Splitting has been legislated, I figured that I should work on the stuff that I haven’t practiced in a while instead of focusing on the stuff that I do everyday. 2. Saturday saw the annual Hell on Wheels Hot August Nights take off at Industry Expo Center, and what a night it was!!! Racing was awesome, the bikes were awesome, and just walking through the pits gave me an uncontrollable boner. 3. Sunday.. played Lego®s. Monday/Tuesday 1.I can’t believe this Lane Splitting thing is being mentioned on so many other moto-podcasts. I wrote an article about it and it’s up on creative-riding.com Wednesday 1.There are some upcoming events that we should talk about before the end of the show. Find the events on our FB page! 2. Harleys are more hip than Ducatis or BMWs!!! I am not going to start selling beard wax… yet. 3. Shitty custom cycles making the rounds on the internet. I don’t like stock bikes, but you don’t have the throw a knobbie and remove the fenders from every single bike you build. You should also wear over the ankle boots, jack hole. Thursday 1. Have a good Labor Day! 2. Look at SUDCO catalog if you need some parts porn! 3. DIY Hacks/Tips!!!
