If you've been a long-time listener to this podcast, you'll know about my solo show, Hyena, but for the uninitiated—Hyena is a combination of spoken word and music about alcoholism and recovery. Specifically, MY alcholism and recovery. On today's episode, I'll be discussing the various performances of the show (including the film version and how it has won awards from various film festivals). I'll also dive into how my involvement in the kink, leather and BDSM has helped me in my recovery. I'll be exploring how the support from my community after I announced my sobriety was a miracle for me and gave me a sense of homecoming. We'll also be discussing the importance of talking to someone who understands the experience of addiction and how difficult it can be to understand how bad off one is while in the midst of addiction. Sign up for the highest-tier level of my Patreon and (as mentioned in the episode) get an exclusive look at the film version of Hyena! It's been weeks since I wrote that post about my mother not coming to see the opera my son-in-law wrote for me in Europe. I had offered to buy her a business class ticket with anti-anxiety medication, but never got a response. Reflecting on this made me think about other issues with my family. In our family, it's become expected that I don't share my feelings with others. I'm still angry and sad about it, but I'm now choosing to let go of those feelings and find peace. I've come to realize that family is not just about who birthed who, it's about who celebrates who. I encourage you to find your people who will see and celebrate you for who you are. I'm sending you love and wishing that you will be seen and cherished for who you are. Happy New Year. On today's episode, I talk about how I had to overcome fear to be fully themselves and how I met my beloved spousemeister nine years ago. I also talk about my budding business, teaching people to be free to be themselves, and how I just want to share my light and hope with others.
