Stephanie Baker is a journalist whose been writing between the intersection of business and politics for almost 30 years with Bloomberg. Stephanie's just published her first book and it is just amazing and the consequence of covering these topics for a lifetime. The network, the knowledge, the weird language of sanctions of financial opacity. It's a book about the global economic war with Russia post Ukrainian invasion. The fallout of the sanctions, why it has and hasn't crippled the Russian economy as intended, and everything in and around Russian capital flight, Russian sanctions and the global economic war underwriting Russia's physical threat. We start with Stephanies experience covering Russia from Moscow in the 90s, her stumbling across a murder scene and then between that and the book, Stephanie working as Christopher Hitchens fact checker at The Nation, the details behind putting a book like this together then the details about western businesses who withdrew substantial Russian operations, the oil markets chicanery to skirt sanctions, Oligarchs, Minigarchs, Euroclear and frozen Russian capital, what the sanctions did where they've been effective and where they haven't and a whole lot more.Subscribe To The Curious Worldview NewsletterStephanie Baker - Punishing PutinEpisodes Similar To This- Bill Browder- Oliver Bullough- Nicholas Shaxson----00:00 - Who Is Stephanie Baker03:21 - Moscow In The 90s & Fact Checking Christopher Hitchens09:01 - How Oligarchs Were Created17:07 - Hermitage Capital & Bill Browder19:00 - Debut Book After 30 Years Of Journalism27:46 - Economic Chaos From Sanctions31:21 - Commodity Markets & Oil Chicanery36:26 - Cannibalising Goods For Repurposing As Weapons38:45 - McDonalds, Renault & Unilever Huge Russian Operations54:50 - Euroclear's Role1:00:11 - Capital Flight, Offshore Plumbing & Financial Opacity1:20:16 - Liquid wealth of Putin1:21:36 - The Role Of Serendipity In Stephanies Life

Still A Part of Us: A podcast about stillbirth and infant loss
Stephanie and Winter talk about the birth of little Cedric, who was stillborn a 18 weeks. Stephanie was a young mother getting her family started and this was her third birth. Her first birth had some complications and her child was born alive and healthy, just very small (around 2 kg/4.5 lbs). Stephanies second pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage, and she found herself pregnant with Cedric shortly after. All seemed to be going well until she awoke one morning with some spotting. She then had to give birth to her son who had passed in utero. DONATE $5 (aka "buy us a coffee/hot cocoa") to support the continued production of these stories. Welcome to the Gladden Longevity podcast, and in this episode, Dr. Gladden speaks with Stephanie Venn Watson. Dr. Stephanie Venn-Watson, CEO of Seraphina Therapeutics, is a veterinary epidemiologist and public health scientist. With a background in Animal Physiology, Veterinary Medicine, and Public Health, she leads Seraphina, known for its research on pentadecanoic acid (C15:0). Fatty15, a C15:0 supplement, offers three times more cellular benefits than omega-3s, promoting long-term health. Users report improved metabolism, reduced anxiety, and better sleep within six weeks. This podcast emphasizes the critical role of C15:0, an essential fatty acid, in maintaining physiological health. She highlights a concerning population-wide crisis of C15:0 deficiency resulting from reduced-fat diets and the preference for plant-based milk alternatives devoid of C15:0. This deficiency, developed over 40 years, contributes to chronic diseases. C15:0, targeting key aging hallmarks, proves beneficial for metabolic, heart, liver, and immune health, as well as mood regulation and improved sleep. Dr. Gladden notes that Stephanie is a fascinating person. (00:50) Dr. Gladden welcomed Stephanie to the show. (2:36) Stephanie talks about her previous work in combating different diseases. (4:45) Stephanie explains working with dolphins as a veterinarian. (6:57) What was it about dolphins that made them live longer with dementia? (15:20) C15 has been used for a long time. (17:53) Stephanie shares how C15 is an NPK activator. (19:57) C15 has potent anticancer activities, as identified in the lab. (22:20) Dr. Gladden asked if adding something else to C15 would make it work better. (24:40) C15 meets all the criteria to be called an essential fatty acid. (26:05) They discovered that C15 repairs the mitochondrial function. (29:10) Dr. Gladden explains osmotic stressing as discussed. (32:18) Stephanie gives an example of a trial that was just conducted using C15. (35:50) Discovery that fatty liver disease is actually a C15 deficiency syndrome. This episode was originally released Jan. 25, 2022. We hope you enjoy this encore episode. Co-host Stephanie Myers has long considered herself a Meat Loaf superfan -- she saw him in concert 13 times, has every album, and has seen all his movies. After his tragic Jan. 20 passing, she's looking back on lots of amazing memories, ranging from meeting him after a show to interviewing him for an article. What she's sharing here today are not only her stories and memories connected to his music and legacy, but also the previously unreleased audio from that 2010 interview, shortly after the release of his album "Hang Cool Teddy Bear." Meat was his usual warm self in this interview, and we want to share that side of him with you on this episode. Meat talks with Stephanie about the album, touring, the music industry, and even the music he enjoyed at the time (including Foo Fighters/Dave Grohl and Kings of Leon). The Stephanies hope you enjoy it. Rest well, Meat. Proud member of Pantheon Podcasts.
