AmphibiCast is the Original Podcast Dedicated Solely to Amphibians. It features quality informative and educational content for hobbyists, naturalists, ecologists, pet enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates frogs, toads and salamanders.
The AmphibiCast podcast is a comprehensive and informative show that covers all aspects of the amphibian hobby, from building vivariums to exploring diseases in these creatures. Hosted by Dan, the podcast is my go-to resource for learning something new about amphibians. Dan does an excellent job of moderating and asking relevant questions of his guests, making each episode consistently interesting.
One of the best aspects of The AmphibiCast podcast is its thoroughness. The topics covered are diverse and encompass all areas of the hobby. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced hobbyist, there's always something to learn from this podcast. Additionally, the choice of guests is fantastic, with experts in the field providing deep insights into various aspects of amphibians. This makes each episode incredibly valuable for anyone interested in keeping these creatures.
I must admit that there are no major negatives to mention about this podcast. However, if I had to nitpick, some episodes may not be as focused or concise as others. For example, in one episode about chameleons, it took the guest some time to actually start talking specifically about chameleons, which could be a bit frustrating for listeners seeking immediate information on that topic. However, such instances are rare and do not detract significantly from the overall quality of the show.
In conclusion, The AmphibiCast is a joy to listen to and offers phenomenal content for anyone interested in amphibians and their care. Dan's passion for the subject shines through in every episode, and his effort in curating knowledgeable guests is commendable. Whether you're an experienced hobbyist or just starting out, this podcast is a valuable resource that will enhance your knowledge and love for keeping amphibians. I highly recommend giving it a try!

Social Media has become an important facet of our ever evolving society. We find news, opinions, and information at an ever increasing pace. Do posts about frogs illicit a different response than mammals? (You may be surprised!) In this episode I am joined by Susan Canavan, and we discuss her research into how social media posts affect our awareness of extinction. We discuss how social media users acted after reading a post about different extinct animals, and what role amphibians played in long term interest. This week I am joined by Roland Knapp. Roland has studied Mountain yellow legged frogs in the Sierra Nevada for three decades. During the earliest days of his research, he witnessed the first massive amphibian die-offs in the US as a result of a new and lethal pathogen. That pathogen would come to be known as Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis or Bd for short. Moving forward, Roland's subsequent work over the next few decades would ultimately lead to a reintroduction plan for the species, -a plan made possible by the discovery of Bd resistant frogs! In this episode, we discuss the full story arc of Bd -from it's mysterious beginning, the severe devastation it has caused, and how the tide is turning in favor of a few frog species with some help from both nature and humans! This episode is sponsored by Gray Ghost Creationshttps://www.etsy.com/shop/GrayGhostCreationsExo Terra is our sponsor this week. For decades, the reptile and amphibian hobbies have formed a sort of synergy. Collectively they constitute what many call the "Herp" hobby. However, as time passes, the communities have become more divergent- almost to the point of being mutually exclusive. But how much do we really have in common? In this episode I am joined by Phil Lietz (co-host of the Project Herpetoculture Podcast), and we compare and contrast some key differences and commonalities between the reptile and amphibian communities. We discuss value systems, and we explore some of the smaller niche communities within each hobby. We also talk about podcasting goals, and what value controversial guests may have.Exo Terra is our sponsor this week. This week I am joined by researcher and museum educator, Hugh Gabriel. On a recent research trip to Madagascar, Hugh made a ground breaking discovery - identifying and describing three new species of Guibemantis frog in a very specialized biome. These species of Guibemantis have a unique natural history that takes place in the axils of the pandanus tree. (Somewhat similar to oophaga and bromeliads but on a much more specialized scale!). In this episode Hugh shares the methods behind holistic taxonomy, the challenges of working in situ in Madagascar, and the complexities of the closed ecosystem within the pandanus tree. The world is a stressful place. For many of us, the amphibian hobby is a means of escape and a place where we can find peace of mind. But, the hobby does also require a great deal of commitment ,and it can also become a stressor in and of itself when we are struggling with personal issues. Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis or Bd is one of the most infamous agents of amphibian disease world wide. But did you know that there are multiple lineages other than the Global Panzootic Lineage and that the fungus can be affected by a virus? We talk about mycology (the study of fungi) in general, as well as the specifics of what we have learned from the mapping of the Bd genome.
