A 52 ans, Carolijn Brouwer est une figure emblématique de la course au large et de la voile légère. Tijdens de Jonger Oranje Talentendag bij VV Assendelft kwamen donderdag ruim 130 jonge voetballers in actie. Ze werden bekeken door scouts van verschillende profclubs. Een van hen spraken wij, Peter Brouwer van Ajax.

Jelle Bakker en Albert Brouwer nemen eerst even de tijd om terug te blikken op een bijzondere avond: het afscheid van de krant na vijftig jaar. Albert had er als een berg tegenop gezien. Vrijdag stond hij uitgebreid in de aandacht bij de viering van tachtig jaar Het Urkerland. We often do not realize that deep down economics is a battleground of competing anthropologies: implicit or explicit theories of human nature, selfhood and subjectivity, quiet beliefs about how we understand ourselves and our place in the world. In this podcast we bring together researchers from different disciplines that study economic phenomena, systems, agency and behavior, ranging from historians and political philosophers to economic anthropologists and development economists, to scrutinize the protagonist of their discipline: who is the Real Homo Economicus? What kinds of creature are they? What drives their choices and behavior? Are we still talking about the same creature? To get the conversation started we use an experimental method: the Mythlab method. We use stories as a probe into economic thinking and quiet beliefs about the underlying anthropologies. In each episode we give our guest a story and see how they respond to it, and explore assumptions and associations in a playful way. In this fourth and final episode we play with fables, short moralistic tales, often featuring animals, but always addressing a deeper human truth. We talk about The Dog and the Piece of Meat, The Wolf and the Crane, The Hawk and the Nightingale, The Hen with the Golden Eggs, The Cricket and the Ant. What is the moral of these stories? What can animal stories tell us about human nature? And what kind of world is the world of the fable? I try to make sense of these fables with Huub Brouwer. Dr. Huub Brouwer is assistant professor of ethics and political philosophy at Tilburg University. Surviving a genocide and then living on while your parents, husband and 5 of your 8 children have been killed. It seems impossible but this is the story of Mama Lambert. An exceptionally wise, courageous and compassionate woman who survived the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994 and dedicated the rest of her life serving thousands of other victims and genocide survivors through counselling. In this podcast we share her story with her daughter Denise, who also miraculously survived the genocide and with Anne-Marie de Brouwer one of the founders of Mukomeze, a foundation that empowers survivors of sexual violence during the genocide in Rwanda and who worked with Mama Lambert for over 20 years. It is a remarkable and moving story about a woman who showed the strength and power to live on despite the terrible fate she, her family and loved ones suffered. Mama Lambert was a finalist to the USIP Women Building Peace Award 2020 and a recipient to the 'Voice Achievers Award African Community Service 2019'. She wrote a book about her own life called “For Those Who Do Not Believe in Miracles”. She also features in other books, including “And I Live On”, as well as on coffee bags with specialty coffee produced by Rwandan women she counselled.

Le célibat des prêtres dans l'Église catholique romaine pourrait-il être optionnel ? C'est la question que pose la théologienne Marie-Jo Thiel dans son livre : « La grâce et la pesanteur. Le célibat obligatoire des prêtres en question », paru aux éditions Desclée de Brouwer. « Est-ce bien raisonnable de réfléchir encore au célibat des prêtres séculiers, plus exactement au célibat continent et chaste exigé par le magistère catholique pour être ordonné ? », interroge dans son introduction Marie-Jo Thiel. Une question délicate, difficile à aborder auprès des communautés catholiques conservatrices en Europe, en Amérique Latine et sur le continent africain.Cette obligation sacerdotale ne date pourtant que du XIè siècle lors de la réforme grégorienne et du second Concile de Latran. Pourtant, rien dans la Bible n'interdit aux prêtres d'être mariés et cette interdiction n'existe pas dans les Églises catholiques orientales. En septembre 2024 d'ailleurs, pour la première fois en France, un homme marié et père de trois enfants a été ordonné prêtre dans l'Église catholique chaldéenne, il témoigne dans cette émission de son engagement dans l'Église. Introduction Welcome to a new series, “Footprints of History”. The Drawing Board, with whom I am partnering for the 3rd consecutive year, brings this series to you. The Drawing Board is an international architecture competition based in India where students can test their understanding and skills in shaping how communities live and thrive while preserving local heritage. TDB has been actively running an Architecture competition for undergraduate students since 2016. It is conceptualised by Mindspace Architects and Rohan Builders. This year, which is the 9th edition of the competition, the design brief revolves around redesigning the Pathu Thoon Lane in Madurai (Tamil Nadu, India) also known as "10 Pillar Street”. This site is somewhere between the Meenakshi Temple and Thirumalai Nayakar Place. The design challenge is to restore and integrate the lane's cultural heritage, emphasizing these 10 pillars. The submission deadline is 16th September 2024. More details in the show notes and thedrawingboard.in Ludwig Mies, the German-American architect, once said "Architecture is the will of an epoch translated into space.” And this quote aptly describes our today's guest. Hans Brouwer. Hans, originally from Hong Kong, is a distinguished architect with a global footprint. He studied architecture in Switzerland and the University of Southern California, where he graduated top of his class. Hans spent his early career with Sir Norman Foster, contributing to landmark projects like the Century Tower in Tokyo and Commerzbank Headquarters in Frankfurt. In 1995, he founded HB Design, later relocating to Singapore, and expanded to regional offices in Phuket and Bangkok. An award-winning architect, Hans also teaches at the National University of Singapore and frequently speaks at industry events. Questions What do you see when you see the 10 Pillar Street - as an architect and as a tourist or history lover? Which aspects stand out for you? You have a strong emphasis on “the process”. You say this process is truly creative because the end is not known at the beginning. Can you unpack this for us? At HB Design, you emphasize the importance of context and site in shaping architectural outcomes. How do you balance the need for innovation with the preservation of cultural heritage in a project? You deeply engage with clients in the design process, how would you involve a community or stakeholders in a project like the restoration of Madurai's Pathu Thoon Lane? Assuming Designers or specialists are generally aware of the pros and cons of various solutions and living on tradeoffs. Given the expertise, what amount of community involvement is apt - because, if we go and ask people, they will want faster horses while the solution could be inventing a car. I am very curious to know about BIM - What is building information modeling? How does it help in the process and over all practice at HB Design? With BIM being such an integral part of HB Design's process, how do you see technology aiding in the preservation and restoration of culturally significant sites? You are working in South east Asia where we are seeing a lot of innovation with great emphasis on green infrastructure. What are a few trends in the technology and architecture industry which can be applied to this complex network of communities and historical 10 pillars? In the future world if AI, which faculty should young architects need to build to accept or reject AI proposals assuming they have the analog context of climate change and other challenges?
