Ever get that text — "Hey, we're in the neighborhood, mind if we stop by?" — and feel your stomach drop? You're not alone. Getting your home guest ready on a moment's notice feels overwhelming when you don't have a system. But here's the truth: a company-ready home isn't about having a perfect home. It's about having an intentional one. In this episode, I walk you through exactly how to reset your home in minutes — and how to set it up so that guest-ready is basically its natural resting state. What You'll Learn in This Episode: Why "guest ready" doesn't mean perfect — and the mindset shift that takes the pressure off for good The 5 zones that actually matter when guests come over (and why you can let the rest go) The 20-minute reset: a go-to order of operations so you're never running around randomly The clutter basket trick that will change your life Why smell is your home's very first impression — and how to make it a good one The one lighting swap that makes every room feel warmer and more intentional instantly How to create "company corners" — 2-3 spots that are always styled so the rest of the room feels pulled together even when it isn't The four bathroom non-negotiables guests actually notice Why a $5 bunch of grocery store flowers does more than you'd think The 20-Minute Reset Order of Operations: Light a candle, set a diffuser or start a simmering pot Clear and wipe surfaces (don't forget the basket)  Quick sweep (both with eyes and a broom/vacuum) Attention to seating areas (couch: fluff pillows, dining: wipe chairs)  Fresh towel in the bathroom  Turn off overhead lights and turn on lamps Mentioned in This Episode: Decorating SOS Call If this episode made you realize your home isn't quite where you want it to be and it's NOT about the cleaning, it's MORE than that — and you're ready for someone to look at your specific space and tell you exactly what it needs — a Decorating SOS Call is your next step. In one focused 60-minute session, we'll dig into your space, your goals, and your budget and walk away with a clear, strategic plan for making your home feel the way you've always wanted it to — without the overwhelm and without buying things that don't work.

A woman walks into a Honda dealership  in California ready to buy a car. The sales manager tells her she needs  to agree to go on a date with him first. She says no. He adds $10,000 to the price. That video has over 5 million views  on TikTok. Honda suspended the employee.  And every comment section filled up  with the same response. This is why I don't trust car dealerships. In this episode Andrew breaks down what  actually went wrong, why it keeps  happening, and what dealerships need  to do right now to make sure it never  happens in theirs. This is not a conversation about one  bad actor. It is a conversation about  what happens inside a store when nobody  is watching and nobody is accountable. This episode of The UK Flooring Podcast sits down with Murray Biggs, founder of Woven & Woods, for a proper honest chat about retail, showroom design, customer experience, and what it really takes to build a flooring business that stands out.Murray shares how he went from working in carpet retail at 16 to opening his first showroom in Twickenham with borrowed money, limited budget, and a clear idea of what he didn't want to be. No red sale banners. No showroom packed with every stand going. No bland retail experience that looks like everyone else.Instead, Woven & Woods was built around impact, storytelling, and making the customer feel like they are in the right place before anyone has even started selling to them. The conversation gets into the thinking behind showroom layout, why too much choice can become a problem, how data helped Murray decide where to open his second showroom in Richmond, and why customer experience matters more than ever when footfall is harder to come by.It is also a very real conversation about the less glamorous side of growth: cash flow, overheads, staffing, warehousing, business partners, self-doubt, and learning how to back yourself again when business gets difficult. What You'll Learn in This Episode:How Murray started Woven & Woods with £25,000 of seed money and less than £10,000 left to build the first showroomWhy he refused to create a typical flooring shop full of manufacturer stands and sale bannersHow cheap materials, used properly, helped create a high-impact showroom with a clear identityWhy Woven & Woods limits its carpet ranges rather than trying to show everythingThe importance of using data, not just gut feeling, when opening a second showroomHow the river between Twickenham and Richmond affects customer behaviour more than you might expectWhy the first few steps inside a showroom matter, and how customers need space to settle into the environmentHow showroom design can tell a story before the sales conversation even startsWhy a messy showroom is a non-negotiable problem for MurrayHow to make flooring one of the enjoyable parts of a stressful renovation projectWhy customer experience is about much more than being friendlyThe hidden costs of running retail showrooms in London, including rent, rates, warehousing, staff, pensions, and cash flowWhy bigger businesses often come with bigger problemsThe best business advice Murray has read, and why focusing on what you are best at helped the business growThe danger of choosing the wrong business partner, even when the opportunity looks right at the timeHow a difficult year in business led Murray to question his decision-making and join Make or BreakWhy sometimes the thing holding the business back is the person running itMemorable Quote:“I would probably lose interest in the business if the business lost its wow factor to clients.”Speaker Information:Murray Biggs is the founder of Woven & Woods, a flooring and carpet retailer based in South West London, with showrooms in Twickenham and Richmond.Woven & Woods focuses on the mid to high-end residential market, helping customers choose flooring, carpets, wood flooring, and other products for homes and renovation projects. Restaurants. The problem? That's where everyone else is looking too. Meanwhile, there's a $146 billion industry hiding in plain sight—fragmented, high demand, and built around a better customer experience. In this episode, we break down one of the most overlooked models in franchising:  Why the flooring space continues to attract new franchise owners  How a mobile showroom model changes the traditional retail approach  What makes this a relationship-driven, consultative business How franchisees operate without needing prior industry experience  The role of simple team structure and outsourced installation Why customer experience (not just price) is driving growth in this category  And how this model compares to other popular service franchises people are chasing today Here's the truth: Nobody grows up dreaming of owning a flooring business… But smart operators aren't chasing what's trendy—they're looking for proven models, strong support, and real demand. The challenge? There are dozens of options in every category, and most won't fit your goals, your market, or your lifestyle. That's where guidance matters. If you're exploring franchise ownership and want to understand how to evaluate opportunities like this the right way, this episode is a great place to start.

In this episode, Tim sits down with Kenneth Walker (Owner, Firewalker Sales) at the HPV Expo in New Orleans to break down the five principles of a winning showroom. Kenneth's approach transforms showrooms from overwhelming product dumps into strategic sales tools that actually drive business to customers' homes. In this episode, Tim and Kenneth cover: Why most dealers confuse retail stores with showrooms—and how this confusion kills sales by overwhelming both staff and customers The simple but powerful concept of creating "experts, not generalists" by being intentional about product positioning and storytelling How good, better, best pricing ladders work when you stop worrying about manufacturers' feelings and start focusing on customer clarity Don't miss Kenneth's insight about the "coffee table battle"—that critical moment when customers compare options at home—and why having authentic stories about your products is what ultimately wins the sale. Spoiler alert: there was no opportunity, just legal threats. Then we move onto the drama that went down at the Showroom, a dress store in Nashville, after a viral video revealed sounded like the store owner body shaming a customer. It wasn't long before the customer identified herself in her own video and shared her experience. The conversation focuses on the impact these new changes have on the showroom's appearance, both agreeing that the improved lighting and polished concrete floor make a huge difference in how the showroom feels and how it's received by the guests.  Ruhlin shares her journey from working in commercial design and architecture in the Chicago area to moving to the Carolinas and finding herself at Broad River. The eye for beauty and design never left her, and she loves helping guests furnish their life's best memories.  The two touch on the new sleep gallery, which streamlines the mattress selection process and showcases the diverse offerings for every guest. "The purpose of your showroom is to sell the in-home visit." This week, Tim welcomes Kenneth Walker, independent sales rep for Fire Walker Sales covering nine states, to break down the five principles every winning fireplace showroom needs. Kenneth has seen hundreds of showrooms—from thriving retail operations to struggling chimney service companies trying to break into retail—and shares exactly what separates success from failure. In this episode, Tim and Kenneth discuss: Why marketing your showroom is step one: Most customers don't randomly walk into hearth stores—they're destination shopping, which means if you don't tell them you exist with clear CTAs, QR codes on trucks, and explicit messaging, they'll never find you. Simple and thoughtful always beats big and fancy: A tight 20x20 showroom with strategic product placement will outsell a massive space with 40 wood stoves and 17 brands where customers get lost and salespeople can't become experts on anything. Product positioning is your secret weapon: Stop trying to show everything from every brand and instead build a clear price ladder using each vendor's strengths—like the taco truck with beef, chicken, and fish tacos, not 45 varieties of beef. Signage and pricing eliminate customer anxiety: Posting average installed price ranges shows customers the full ladder from $4,000 to $9,500, takes price off the table as an objection, and naturally wins the sit-down estimate without awkward budget conversations. In-home appointments are where you actually sell fireplaces: The showroom sells the home visit, the home visit sells the fireplace—and charging customers $250 to come measure means you're tripping over hundred dollar bills trying to pick up pennies. Don't miss this tactical guide to building a showroom that creates buying experiences instead of browsing experiences. ------ Become a supporter of The Fire Time Network and get access to awesome rewards: https://itsfiretime.com/join To hear more audio articles from our magazine, subscribe to the Fire Time Magazine Podcast: https://www.itsfiretime.com/magazine

Hope you're glad to hear from us! We're ringing the bell on the door and fighting for our place in rock and roll...podcasts! I can't believe it's true, but we're marching on through They Might Be Giants' 1997 album Factory Showroom, discussing a precious and few three more songs! First up is the best podcast segment of your life as we discuss New York City, the cherished cute and cuddly cult-favorite Cub cover. Your young and pretty hosts discuss the skyscraper highs and sewer grate lows of the titular city. Then the song we play is Your Own Worst Enemy, the short and (bitter)sweet TMBG throwback that leaves us softly weeping. And just when you think it's finished, the XTC Vs. Adam Ant segment is one of the biggest we've ever done. Jordan's love explodes for XTC and both he and Dave find new appreciation for XTC's friend or foe, Adam Ant...and even the singer from Bow Wow Wow! I can't tell you why, you'll have to listen! Ant music for XTC people! XTC music for Ant people!
