The Explosive Ordnance Women's Leadership Summit, held from August 8-10, marked 50 years of women in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal career field. Attendees from across the globe gathered for two days of leadership, mentorship, and camaraderie, a unique forum focusing on women's leadership and mentorship that had not been seen before. More than 75 service members participated in the summit, including not only female EOD technicians but also men and women from various career fields. Linda Cox, a trailblazer in the field, shared her experiences from being the first woman to graduate from EOD school in 1974 to becoming the first EOD woman to achieve the rank of chief master sergeant in 1994. She highlighted the progress made over the years, with women now running teams and shops in the field. Despite advancements, women remain a minority in EOD, with only 38 women serving as EOD technicians out of 1,337 Airmen in the Air Force, comprising less than 2% of the career field. Chief Master Sgt. Diana Rogers, the second woman EOD Chief and the sole current female serving in that role, discussed the challenges faced by women in EOD and emphasized the importance of more women rising to leadership positions. The summit served as a testament to the progress made and the ongoing efforts to promote diversity and inclusivity in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal career field.
In this episode I talk with Matt Seymore, Co-Match Director of the ALTUS PRS Rimfire Challenge. That's right PRS Rimfire is at ALTUS Shooting Solutions. This was Matt's first go at putting together a course of fire and overall he did a great job. It was a tough match but nothing was impossible. The series consists of 5 total matches. There are trophies from a local small business, and food is provided post match. There was 8 total stage ranging from 10 to 12 rounds each. We engaged targets from 50 to 240 yards, this match was primarily positional only firing from a modified prone on one stage. I also spoke with Harrison Servos of Servos Custom Firearms of Stapleton, Alabama. Harrison is an avid rimfire competitor, taking 8th at the NRL22 Championships in 2023. Harrison is a returning guest and was originally featured on episode 64 of the show. Give that a listen to hear more about Harrison's story. Finally I talked to the match winner Jeremy Salter who is no stranger to the winner circle. Jeremy won the last match that ALTUS held as well as he won the NRL22 3rd and 4th season. I traveled up to Alabama to RO the Carbon Hill Hunter Classic put on by Mike Lilly this past weekend and it was a blast. Normally the range at Alabama Precision (AP) is host to Precision Rifle Series matches, to my knowledge this is the first time AP has hosted a NRL Hunter event. Even though this was the first event Hunter event at AP Mike and his family, Kili & Cameron, put together an awesome experience for the hunters that attended. For those wondering, we did use the same range and some props from the field as we do at PRS matches but it didn't feel like the normal match. For the NRL Hunter series you carry all the gear you wish to use on your back, no carts or driving around in the truck. You have 4 minutes ( 6 as a team) to find, range, and engage your targets. There are no reshoots, no pre-stage glassing, and no sharing info with buddies. This is a match of just you and your equipment. Stay tuned as I talk with some on the competitors from the match.
