The November 5 edition of the AgNet News Hour struck a chord with California farmers and voters alike as hosts Nick Papagni and Josh McGill welcomed Don Wagner, candidate for Secretary of State of California, to discuss the state's leadership crisis, water mismanagement, and the fight to restore common sense to Sacramento. Wagner, currently serving in Orange County and endorsed by former Secretary of State Bill Jones and former Governor Pete Wilson, said the same thing many Californians are feeling: “The problems in this state are entirely man-made.” He pointed to decades of political gridlock and poor decision-making that have crippled business, agriculture, and infrastructure. “We don't have a resource problem,” Wagner said. “We have a government problem. It's bad policy, not bad luck, that's hurting California.” He emphasized that water is at the center of nearly every issue facing the state. “We have simply failed to manage our water supply,” Wagner said. “The Central Valley, one of the most productive agricultural regions on earth, is being shortchanged by people who don't understand farming.” He called out unbuilt water storage projects, overregulation, and a lack of urgency. “Fifteen years after passing bonds, the projects still aren't built. That's government failure, plain and simple.” Wagner also stressed the importance of electing leaders who understand agriculture. “Farming is California's backbone, and it's been ignored by politicians who've never set foot on a farm,” he said. “If you don't understand how food is grown, you can't govern a state that feeds the world.” Beyond agriculture, Wagner called for restoring election integrity and rebuilding trust in California's business environment. “We're the last state to report results every election cycle,” he said. “That's unacceptable. We need free, fair, and transparent elections — and we need to make it easier to do business here, not harder.” The conversation also touched on the recent Palisade fires and failures in urban emergency planning. Wagner said his experience on the Orange County Fire Authority Board taught him the importance of local preparation. “We used that tragedy as a learning opportunity,” he explained. “We created what we call the heli-hydrant — a water source for helicopters to dip and dump faster during wildfires. That's the kind of practical, local innovation California needs more of.” When asked about the upcoming Proposition 50, Wagner warned that the measure could silence rural California. “If it passes, it could cut rural and conservative representation in Congress by more than half,” he said. “That's not reform — that's erasure. Central Valley farmers deserve a voice, not a footnote.” Wagner closed with optimism, saying he believes California can return to greatness. “This is a fixable state,” he said. “We just need leaders with courage, honesty, and common sense. California can be golden again.” Papagni and McGill agreed, calling Wagner “a steady, thoughtful voice in a noisy political climate.” Papagni added, “We need calm leaders who actually understand how to fix things, not just talk about them.”

Deciding when an elderly parent should stop driving ranks among family life's most challenging conversations. Now, General Motors is developing technology to transform this emotional decision into a data-driven process. Their innovative "driver retirement score" system monitors everything from reaction times to proper use of turn signals, even tracking how often other drivers honk at the vehicle. This comprehensive approach could revolutionize how families approach driving cessation discussions with aging relatives. The timing couldn't be more critical. With nearly 52 million licensed drivers over 65 in America—a 77% increase in just two decades—we're facing unprecedented road safety challenges. According to Triple A, seniors now outlive their ability to drive safely for the first time in history, creating a need for "driving retirement planning" similar to financial retirement planning. But the technology raises fascinating questions about parameters and privacy. Would someone who enjoys driving fast automatically receive a poor score? How might different interpretations of complete stops at stop signs affect results? These considerations highlight the complexity of designing systems that identify genuinely unsafe behaviors while accommodating varied driving styles.Beyond the elderly driver technology discussion, we explore the completely redesigned 2026 Hyundai Palisade. Priced at $58,030 as tested, it offers tremendous value compared to competitors like the Ford Expedition King Ranch at over $86,000. While the Palisade impresses with modern styling and luxurious features, its 3.5-liter V6 struggles somewhat with the vehicle's 5,000-pound weight. We also cover major racing news with Will Power leaving Penske after 17 years to join Andretti's IndyCar team, while Colton Herta prepares for a potential Formula One future.Ready to learn more about automotive innovations, value-packed SUVs, and the future of driving safety? From the inmate-built Texas State Railroad to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad's themed excursions (including beer trains and Thomas the Tank Engine days), we explore how these metal ribbons of history now create new memories for visitors. The conversation shifts gears dramatically when we reveal six dream cars that owners deeply regret purchasing. The Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake with its endless repair bills, the eco-friendly but perpetually broken Fisker Karma, and the gorgeous but temperamental Alfa Romeo 4C all made the list. These automotive heartbreakers promise exotic looks and driving thrills but deliver wallet-draining disappointment. We explore why the first-generation Tesla Roadster, futuristic BMW i8, and even James Bond's Lotus Esprit leave owners shaken, not stirred. We wrap up with a comprehensive review of the redesigned 2026 Hyundai Palisade. This seven-passenger SUV impresses with its distinctive styling, comfortable interior with customizable lighting, and competitive pricing at $58,300 for the tested Calligraphy AWD trim. However, the 3.5L V6 engine struggles with the vehicle's substantial 5,000-pound weight, particularly during highway passing maneuvers. Is the Palisade the right family hauler for you? Listen to our full assessment and compare it to competitors like the Chevy Suburban Premier ($78,095) and Ford Expedition King Ranch ($86,000). Palisade Joe Ramunno - Week 2 by MBC Grand, Inc.
This week on America on the Road, we put the spotlight on two 2025 model-year vehicles that represent very different segments with wildly different powertrains but share a commitment to technology, practicality, and style — the 2025 Volvo EX40 and the 2025 Hyundai Palisade. Leading off, host Jack Nerad delivers a detailed road test of the 2025 Volvo EX40 Twin Motor Ultra. While the name may sound new, the EX40 is essentially a renamed version of Volvo's previous XC40 Recharge. This all-electric compact SUV features dual motors delivering 402 horsepower and 494 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 78 kWh battery that provides up to 275 miles of range. Its minimalist Scandinavian interior includes heated seats front and rear, a panoramic sunroof, Google-powered infotainment, and a Harman Kardon audio system. With DC fast-charging capabilities and a long list of advanced safety features, the EX40 offers luxury EV buyers a stylish and well-rounded all-wheel-drive package, but is its as-tested price of $62,045 a hill too high? Next up is co-host Chris Teague's road test of the 2025 Hyundai Palisade, a three-row SUV that's become a go-to family vehicle thanks to its spacious cabin, upscale features, and user-friendly tech. Powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine producing 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, the Palisade delivers confident performance through an 8-speed automatic transmission, available in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. It earns an EPA-estimated 21 MPG combined, giving it solid range for long-distance travel. Inside, the Palisade offers seating for up to seven, 18 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, and a maximum of 86.4 cubic feet with seats folded. It also tows up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. Its near-luxury feel, intuitive tech, and extensive standard safety features win it kudos from both Chris and Jack, and they'll have more in this road test. This week's special guest is Frank Hanley, Senior Director of Automotive Benchmarking at J.D. Power. Frank joins the show to break down the results of the 2025 APEAL Study, which measures how emotionally satisfying a vehicle is to own and drive. He explains which brands are connecting with owners on a deeper level and what manufacturers can learn from the data. It's an insightful and data-rich segment that pulls back the curtain on the psychology of car ownership. This week's top automotive news stories: • Chrysler Gets Rugged with the Pacifica Grizzly Peak Concept Chrysler has revealed an overlanding-ready concept minivan, the Pacifica Grizzly Peak, at Overland Expo Mountain West. Featuring lifted suspension, all-terrain tires, roof storage, and a reconfigured cargo area, the concept taps into the booming “van life” trend with AWD practicality. • New Tax Break Replaces EV Credit A new U.S. tax policy will let buyers deduct interest on car loans for new vehicles built in the United States, replacing the expiring $7,500 EV credit. The deduction, estimated to save buyers about $576 (roughly), applies to U.S.-made gas, hybrid, and electric vehicles purchased between 2025 and 2028, but excludes leases and used cars. • Tesla Hikes Cyberbeast Price by $15K Tesla has increased the price of its flagship Cybertruck variant, the Cyberbeast, to $114,990, adding a new “Luxe Package” with Full-Self Driving and Supercharger access. The move has puzzled analysts, as Cybertruck sales remain slow despite massive early demand. • NHTSA Investigates Honda, Acura Engine Failures Over 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles are under investigation for engine defects that could lead to sudden failure. The NHTSA probe focuses on V6-powered models like the Acura MDX and Honda Pilot, with more than 400 complaints filed to date. • VinFast Abandons Direct Sales Model Vietnamese EV maker VinFast is shifting away from its Tesla-style direct sales approach in the U.S. The company has opened its first franchised dealership in San Die...

HOW WOULD FREE TRADER REAGAN RECOGNIZE THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION? 6/8 Reagan: His Life and Legend Hardcover – September 10, 2024 by Max Boot (Author) https://www.amazon.com/Reagan-Life-Legend-Max-Boot/dp/0871409445 The story begins not in star-studded Hollywood but in the cradle of the Midwest, small-town Illinois, where Reagan was born in 1911 to Nelle Clyde Wilson, a devoted Disciples of Christ believer, and Jack Reagan, a struggling, alcoholic salesman. Boot vividly creates a portrait of a handsome young man, indeed a much-vaunted lifeguard, whose early successes mirrored those of Horatio Alger. And contextualizing Reagan's life against American history, Boot re-creates the world in which Reagan transitioned from local Iowa sportscaster to budding screen actor. The world of Hollywood from the 1930s to the 1950s would prove significant, not only in Reagan's coming-of-age in such classics as Knute Rockne and Kings Row but during the twilight of his film career, when he played opposite a chimpanzee in Bedtime for Bonzo, and then his eventual emergence as a television host of General Electric Theater, which established his bona fides as one of the leading conservative voices of the time. Indeed, the leap to California governor in 1966 seemed almost preordained, in which Reagan became a bellwether for a nation in the throes of a generational shift. Reagan's 1980 presidential election augured a shift that continues into this century. Boot writes not as a partisan but as a historian seeking to set the story straight. He explains how Reagan was an ideologue but also a supreme pragmatist who signed pro-abortion and gun control bills as governor, cut deals with Democrats in both Sacramento and Washington, and befriended Mikhail Gorbachev to end the Cold War. A master communicator, Reagan revived America's spirits after the traumas of Vietnam and Watergate. But Boot also shows how Reagan was armored in obliviousness. He traces Reagan's opposition to civil rights over forty years, reveals how he neglected the exploding AIDS epidemic, and details how America experienced a level of income inequality not seen since the Gilded Age. 1940 PALISADE
