This week Todd Ogasawara is joined by Jason Dunn to reminisce 25 years of Windows CE/Mobile/Phone as well as looking forward on mobile technology to come. Something weird happened during the recording process, however. The Audio HiJack audio-flow template that I've used to record hundreds of previous podcasts only recorded what Jason said. The good news is that I mostly asked questions and provided a few discussion prompts. Moreover, Jason is an excellent extemporaneous speaker. So, you can guess what I said. I removed the blank audio spaces (silences) during the segments I spoke.

Good Morning, Colorado, and welcome to the Daily Sun-Up by the Colorado Sun. It’s Wednesday February 17th, and we’re feeling lucky to start the day with you.  Today - For doctors, nurses, and patients alike the constant sound of alarms can be dangerous. How one hospital is working to counter alarm fatigue. Before we begin, let’s take a look at what happened on this day in Colorado history - adapted from Derek R Everett’s book “Colorado Day by Day”: Today, we take you back to February 17th, 1858 when a band of fortune seekers departed from their homes in Georgia on an excursion to the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. They were led by prospector William G. Russell, and the result of this excursion was the Pikes Peak gold rush. Now, our feature story.  Alarms and notifications are everywhere, especially in the medical profession. Reporter Michael Booth brings us a story on one hospital system’s work to counter so-called alarm fatigue. This segment was produced by Lucy Haggard. To read more about alarm fatigue, go to coloradosun.com. Before we go here are a few stories you should know about today: Internal allegations of sexual misconduct and gender discrimination in Colorado’s judicial branch will be investigated by an independent panel chosen by representatives from Governor Jared Polis’ office, the state Attorney General’s office and the legislature. The panel will also look into claims that officials improperly awarded a contract to former chief of staff Mindy Masias (pronounced: maa-see-as) to prevent her from filing a discrimination lawsuit against the judicial branch https://coloradosun.com/2021/02/16/colorado-judicial-branch-investigated-sexual-harassment-gender-discrimination/  Colorado’s top federal prosecutor Jason Dunn will resign at the end of the month. Dunn, who was appointed by Donald Trump to the U.S. attorney’s office in 2018, said Tuesday that his office helped ensure the integrity of Colorado’s elections. Federal prosecutors are routinely asked to resign when a new president takes office. https://coloradosun.com/2021/02/16/jason-dunn-resigns-colorado-us-attorney/  Extreme winter storms in the central U.S. are throwing a wrench in vaccine shipments, including doses headed to Colorado. Roughly 133,000 vaccines set to leave from a distribution hub in Tennessee have been delayed by bad weather. State health officials said they received some of this week’s shipment on Friday in anticipation of the holiday on Monday and are working to keep all vaccine appointments set for this week.  https://coloradosun.com/colorado-coronavirus-live-updates-january-2021/#vaccine-shipment-delay For more information on all of these stories, visit our website, www.coloradosun.com. He's the President of http://www.dacs.co/ (DACS Asphalt and Concrete). Thank you, Jaime. Thank you, Jason, for being on the show. Jason, tell us a little bit about your company and who you serve. DACS Asphalt and Concrete is one of the largest and fastest-growing pavement reconstruction and maintenance firms serving the front range of Colorado. We serve commercial property owners and commercial property managers across the front range, all things pavement. That's one of the largest spending categories they have per year in terms of maintenance items. Whether it's us having to repave an entire apartment complex parking lot or take care of a single broken piece of curb and gutter from a snowplow, we take care of that for our customers. In the parking lot out here, there's a pothole and periodically the crew shows up. That's an interesting niche paving market. What drove you to that particular niche? A few things are special about this market. One is it's a good business itself. I was a business analyst for many years. I'm accustomed to looking for characteristics and businesses that make them great, sustainable, generators of free cashflow, but one of the things that attracted me to this business too is it's a low bar industry. This is blue-collar world where my competitors oftentimes work growing up in concrete and asphalt and then doing their best as business owners once they grew an attractive firm. If you bring business sophistication, especially from outside of this industry into this world, it gives you an ability to easily differentiate for the customer. If the customer recognizes it, that makes it an exciting opportunity for us. For you, when you say front range, what's the furthest north you go? what's the furthest south that you go? It's a little bit nebulous, but it's Colorado Springs to Fort Collins. We’ll go down as far south as Pueblo if needed. My team finished with an overnight, nearly camping trip through the mountains because we were serving some convenience stores that seventeen of this same brand of the store needed work throughout the mountain area. We packed up the crews, overnighted them and got that work done. We can be moving around, but it's Colorado Springs to Fort Collins.   Jason, first of all, we're so excited to recognize you as a 2020 Titan 100. I've got a copy of the book in which you were profiled. This book recognizes 100 of Colorado's top CEOs and C-level executives, https://www.titanceo.com/titan-100 (Colorado-100 Titans of Industry). In this episode, Matt, Steve, and Jessica will have a conversation with Jason Dunnigan, better known as The Modern Dad on Instagram. His Instagram handle, the_modern_dad, is an ode to his message and belief that dads need to be more involved in their children’s lives than they traditionally have been. While he’s an expert social media marketer and runs global social media accounts for a craft company, his true passion lies in being a husband and father. He is married with four children, and is known for his love of shopping, fashion, and all things family focused.Jason will hilariously share his great story about learning to love himself and being an awesome dad and husband. They will all start off by sharing what they’ve been going through with the effects that the Coronavirus related shutdowns have had on their personal lives. Jason’s journey started in Elementary school where he got teased a lot and the other kids thought he was gay because he liked jumping rope with the girls instead of playing with the boys. He wasn’t so much into most of the things that boys were into and that put a lot of social pressure on him because people kept saying mean things about him, and he just couldn’t understand what made people think of him that way when he was just being himself and enjoying it. That continued all through into his late teens until at one point when he got sick of it and decided to move to California where he experienced so much acceptance that he figured out all he needed to do is not care what anyone else thought of him, and just love and accept himself as he was. Now, Jason is the perfect example of what it means to live your best life by being true to who you are. Stay tuned as he shares how he got to the point of owning who he is and how that set him free, so you can apply the same to set yourself free from the confines of caring too much about what other people think of you.Highlights of the Discussion: Matt’s worst nightmare dressing rooms (02:19)Why Jason calls himself The Modern Dad (04:11)Knowing the comfort of leggings and doing the single ladies dance in a custom made leotard and heels (08:12)Having to still go to work despite being in a digital oriented position (12:57)How Jason learned to accept who he was and love himself (15:17)The biggest misconception that people had about him (22:30)Crazies of getting married at 30 and Jason’s opinion on online dating (26:15)The detriment of getting so caught up in who everybody else thinks we're supposed to be (34:16)Helping people accept and love themselves (43:24)Additional Resources:Jason “The Modern Dad” on Instagramwww.Linktr.ee/TheBoldLogic--Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook!--You can find the podcast on Apple, Google, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you listen to podcasts. If you haven’t already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!

11/12/19 Today's guest is Jason Dunn, the worship pastor and all-around handyman at Los Altos Grace. We had a great time hearing about his journey through life, church and faith. We started by recapping our weekends in going to games, taking pictures, and Disney+ (0:00-18:26) Then we recapped Rams/Steelers, Packers/Panthers, 49ers/Seahawks and had some NFL MVP talk (18:26-34:20). We followed that with a quick look at the Lakers and why Jacob is invested in Iowa basketball, followed by Jason giving a brief synopsis of his sports fandom and playing career, featuring Slurpees and guitar during baseball (34:20-49:56). Then Jason told us about his parents and siblings, his education at Los Altos and Brethren, and how much Los Altos has meant to him and his family in the past, now, and into the future (49:56-1:18:12). Next, Jason told us about his life after high school, including some time at Fullerton College, joining a metal band, spending a very interesting year in New York, moving back to SoCal and becoming the worship pastor at a church in Anaheim, then making his way back to Los Altos full-time and engaging completely in worship (1:18:12-1:53:50). Finally, we got to talk to Jason about the beginnings of his faith, how it is the center of his marriage, and how he will pass it on to his children, with a quick interlude about his beard and favorite movie (1:53:50-2:30:51). Thanks for tuning in! Be sure to stay up to date with new content via all social media platforms, and send us feedback whenever you want. Feel free to invite yourself to hang out at the show or be a guest!
