For many of us, the way we learned how to make films was simply by making films—horrible, horrible films full of ugly mistakes and shameful regret. (Just me? Didn't think so.) We used our camera's built-in microphone for audio. We decided to see what 24 fps looked like mid-project. We tortured our audience gracious moms with super long and tedious expositional scenes. Are you ready to make your first feature film? Making a movie can be a daunting task – but it’s also easier than ever to read professional scripts, learn about cameras and connect with potential crew members online. Maybe you’ve already made a short. Let go of your inhibitions and try a feature!Check the frame rate and resolution: The standard for film is 24 fps, but regardless of what frame rate (or resolution) you choose, just make sure, at least if you're a beginner, that it stays the same throughout. Choose your locations wisely: Noise pollution can cause major problems for sound, so either find a way to solve them or find a different, less noisy location.Show, don't say: For the most part, less is more when it comes to dialog, and nine times out of ten you can get your point across with visuals rather than lengthy and needless exposition. There are so many other mistakes and oversights that every new filmmaker makes on their first few projects, but these are definitely the big ones. I think if I had just one tip to give a newbie other than write good stories (because that's obviously #1) it'd be to stick to making films within your means. Hope you enjoy the show!Contact us atEMAIL: info@sesimages.com We would love to hear from you, send us an email and ask us any questions or share your thoughts. Some people think creativity is a gift—something only bestowed upon the Vincent Van Goghs, Toni Morrisons and Annie Leibovitzes of the world. But the truth is, creativity isn’t a gift—it’s a skill. And it’s a skill that anyone—painter, writer, accountant, stay-at-home dad, CEO, designer or anyone else—can get better at over time with the right kind of practice. But what does that practice look like? How, exactly, can you be more creative?Turns out, there are three networks in your brain that are responsible for creativity: the executive attention network (which is responsible for focus and attention), the imagination network (which is responsible for—you guessed it—imagination and daydreaming), and the salience network (which is responsible for making connections between the knowledge stored in your brain and your environment). And if you want to become more creative, you need to find ways to engage all three.Contact us atEMAIL: info@sesimages.com We would love to hear from you, send us an email and ask us any questions or share your thoughts. On this episode I wanted to speak on the different steps that we all should all take when it comes to managing and, making profits within our creative business. For many, the chance to set your own salary sounds like a dream come true. But small business owners know the reality is a little more complicated. You should only pay yourself out of your profits – not your revenue. When you see money coming into your business, don’t assume you can pay yourself a big slice of that. Before you take your cut, you also need to take account of things like taxes, payroll, fixed costs and overheads.TAKE THE GUESSWORK OUT OF YOUR SALARYYou should only pay yourself out of your profits – not your revenue. DON'T UNDERVALUE YOURSELF*If you're just starting a business you might not turn a profit during your first year. Of course, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pay yourself.INVEST MONEY FOR GROWTH Money you take out of the company (that doesn’t relate to your business) is money that can't be used for investment and business growth. WHEN NOT TO PAY YOURSELF If your business is going through a tough time financially, it’s usually not a good idea to take any money out of your business for personal use.PAY YOURSELF WHAT YOU DESERVE"Ultimately the amount you pay yourself will depend on the success of your business".
