The landscape of men's mental health is beginning to change, but there's still a long way to go.Men are notorious for trying to deal with things on their own, often afraid to reach out for help in case they're seen as weak, soft, or not 'man enough.'In this weeks powerful and heartfelt episode 205 of The Alcohol ReThink Podcast, Patrick Fox sits down with Giancarlo Gaglione, founder of the Mental Health World Cup. What begins as a conversation about a charity football tournament quickly opens into a raw, honest exploration of grief, vulnerability, and the importance of normalising conversations around mental health and suicide.Giancarlo shares the moving story of how losing his younger brother in 2012 became the catalyst for building one of the UK's most impactful mental health events. He speaks openly about the pain of loss, the silence that often surrounds male mental health, and how sport, particularly football, has become a tool to bring men together and break down stigma. This episode touches on topics some may find difficult, including suicidal thoughts, grief, and the challenges men face when asking for help. But it's handled with care, compassion, and the belief that talking about these issues is not only important, it's vital.Key Takeaways:Why being vulnerable is an act of bravery, not weaknessThe evolution of societal attitudes toward suicide and mental healthThe role football can play in opening up life-saving conversationsHow Giancarlo turned personal tragedy into national impactSigns someone might be silently struggling and how to respondIt's a real, honest conversation that shows how powerful it can be just to open up. You don't have to fix everything or have the perfect words, by starting to talk can make all the difference.Find out more about Giancarlo and The Mental Health World-Cup here: https://www.mentalhealthworldcup.org.uk/Instagram: @mentalhealthworldcupWork with Patrick:Get 1-1 coaching, quit drinking and start showing up like the man you want to be in life.

Intersection 2025

We are delighted to welcome Swan Dao back for the second of his two-part episode on the Mangu.tv podcast series. Giancarlo and Swan pick up from where they left off in part one. They have a heartfelt conversation covering communal living, personal growth, creativity, sexuality, BDSM and spirituality. Swan shares his insights on communal living and the value of sustained effort and open communication for growth. They speak about the healing potential of tantra and BDSM, and Swan offers his perspective on the value of power dynamics involved with BDSM, which is often stigmatised. He speaks about his disenchantment with the hetronormativity in the sacred sexuality world, and the value of expressing desires and boundaries in an intimate setting, as well as deconstructing societal norms, and the empowerment of social liberation. Giancarlo and Swan speak about inspirations and passions. Swan shares his love for medicinal, edible plants and polyphonic singing. He speaks about upcoming retreats, including a singing tour in Georgia. Swan highlights the importance of experiential approaches to understanding consciousness and spirituality, focusing on experiences and practices. Can one federal district court judge, even temporarily, be more powerful than the President of the United States? That's the issue at the heart of the critical debate over the legal remedy known as the nationwide injunction. The deployment of this legal remedy by federal district court judges has increased significantly in the past ten years, most acutely though during the presidencies of Donald Trump to enjoin, or stop, his administration's policies from being carried into full effect. The Supreme Court is poised to take up the scope as well as underlying justification for nationwide injunctions in the Trump v. Casa Inc. case, which is scheduled for oral argument on May 15. To help us understand nationwide injunctions and the stakes of the upcoming oral argument, we could think of no one better than our friend GianCarlo Canaparo. GianCarlo is the co-author of One Ring to Rule Them All: Individual Judgments, Nationwide Injunctions, and Universal Handcuffs published in the Notre Dame Law Review. GianCarlo is a senior legal fellow in The Heritage Foundation's Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. Canaparo's research focuses primarily on constitutional and administrative law. He earned his law degree from Georgetown University, where he was a published editor of the Georgetown Law Journal, and his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California at Davis.Read More: The Best Way to Fix Nationwide InjunctionsOne Ring to Rule Them All: Individual Judgments, Nationwide Injunctions, and Universal Handcuffs
