St. André Bessette spent 40 years answering a college door in Montreal — and thousands came seeking a miracle. Orphaned and sickly as a child, André Bessette worked as the doorkeeper at Collège Notre-Dame for four decades, praying with the sick who came to him and pointing them to St. Joseph. So many were healed that the Church investigated — and the resulting devotion built the Oratory of St. Joseph, now the largest church in Canada. André always deflected the credit. "I do not cure. St. Joseph cures." ⭐Want to keep living St. André's story after the episode ends? What if one of the most powerful prevention strategies isn't another program — but helping people reconnect with culture, identity, belonging, and community? In this episode of the Prevention Leaders Podcast, Dave Closson talks with Barbara Bessette, a prevention professional with more than two decades of experience in substance misuse prevention, tribal prevention support, cultural technical assistance, and community-based prevention work in Montana.Barbara is an enrolled member of the Chippewa-Cree Tribe Rocky Boy and brings a powerful perspective on what it means to approach prevention through an Indigenous lens — not by focusing only on risk factors, but by recognizing the protective factors already present in communities.Together, Dave and Barbara explore why culture is prevention, how prevention teams can move beyond deficit-based narratives, and what it looks like to make prevention work truly culturally grounded — not just culturally decorated. They also discuss the importance of relationships, trust, family, elders, language, community events, and the simple but powerful principle: nothing about us without us.In this episode, we talk about:Why risk-only narratives can reinforce shame, stigma, and hopelessnessHow culture, identity, connection, and belonging function as protective factorsWhat prevention can learn from tribal communities and Indigenous prevention workThe role of cultural technical assistance in supporting prevention specialistsWhy funders and grantmakers need to better understand culturally grounded preventionHow community events like recovery powwows, youth centers, and “Smudge the Rez” can support prevention outcomesWhy prevention teams should involve the people they are trying to serve from the very beginningHow hope, family, and community connection can help shift prevention from deficit-based to strength-basedKey takeawayPrevention gets stronger when we stop defining communities only by their risks and start building from their strengths.Culture is not an add-on. It is not just symbols, colors, or surface-level representation. Culture can be a living source of identity, connection, belonging, hope, and healing — and those are powerful protective factors. Connect with Prevention LeadersSince prevention is better together, subscribe to the show and share this episode with a colleague, coalition partner, or community leader who cares about culturally grounded prevention.

We've all fallen for it... the dreamy fairytale that says if you become the perfect woman (quiet, low-maintenance, effortlessly elegant, always putting him first), a quality man will finally choose you and make everything better. In this eye opening episode of Quality Queen Control, Asha Christina dismantles the Carolyn Bessette Illusion that seductive image of the ultimate cool girl who “won” the ultimate man, and the dangerous myth that centering your entire identity, style, decisions, and worth around male approval is the path to happiness. You'll uncover the psychology behind why so many high-value women shrink into this role (fear of being “too much,” self-abandonment disguised as femininity, and the hidden comfort of external validation), and why it actually repels the very kings they want. The real shift? Stop auditioning for his story and become the main character of your own.Reclaim your desires, rebuild your self-concept from the inside, embrace healthy polarity, and magnetize quality men who celebrate the full, unapologetic version of you.No more living someone else's fairytale. This is your invitation to write your own as the queen who chooses herself first.

Savannah Guthrie returned to Today in a wave of emotion, sharing a tearful, lingering hug with Jenna Bush Hager that left the room hushed. Meanwhile, a new biography claims Carolyn Bessette had a sharp, private disdain for Gwyneth Paltrow during their Calvin Klein days. And high above it all, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey came face-to-face on the same flight — no smiles, no words, just palpable, ice-cold tension. Sometimes, silence says everything. A new biography reveals that Carolyn Bessette once encouraged John F. Kennedy Junior to reach out to Prince William and Prince Harry after the death of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997.According to the book Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy by Elizabeth Beller, Bessette believed Kennedy might offer support to the young princes as they faced overwhelming media attention and public grief. The author writes that Diana had reportedly admired Kennedy's ability to handle intense press scrutiny with dignity, which prompted Bessette to suggest he offer condolences. Kennedy, however, reportedly hesitated because he did not personally know the princes and felt unsure how to approach such a deeply personal tragedy. The story highlights an unusual moment of connection between two of the most famous families of the late 1990s, both dealing with relentless media attention at the time.Get episodes of Palace Intrigue by becommming a paid subscriber on Apple Podcasts.

CBS News chief election & campaign correspondent Robert Costa examines the political fallout from Thursday's debate between President Joe Biden and the presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, and talks with New York Times White House reporter Katie Rogers, Democratic Party strategist Faiz Shakir, and Republican Chris Sununu, governor of New Hampshire. From the moment she first began appearing at the side of John F. Kennedy Jr., Carolyn Bessette, a fashion industry publicist, became one of the most photographed women in the world. Correspondent Erin Moriarty talks with Sunita Kumar Nair, author of "CBK: Carolyn Bessette Kennedy: A Life in Fashion," and with Washington Post columnist Robin Givhan, about the impact that Bessette's personal style continues to have 25 years following her death. Breaking (or breakdancing), an acrobatic dance style with its roots in New York's hip hop culture, is making its Olympic debut in this year's Summer Games in Paris. Correspondent Luke Burbank talks with Victor Montalvo (a.k.a. B-Boy Victor), who will be competing for breaking gold; and with founding members of the b-boy group New York City Breakers, who came up with some of the sport's original moves in the Bronx back in the late 1970s and early '80s.
