We Don't Go Out is a podcast where you'll find hosts, Ant and Dave, talking about video games, films and TV with many a tangent into the unknown. If you like what you hear please spread the word.
In this episode we talk GT7, Spiro, Dave still shunning the amazing Nintendo Switch for no good reason, The Batman and our film club (which still needs a proper name - @WeDontGoOut with suggestions). The film club films are The House and The Father - very different picks this time out and one clear winner, but which is it?
Back again with two more films to dive into. Enola Holmes and Hunt for the WIlderpeople are the offerings here. On Netflix, Enola Holmes, stars Millie Bobby Brown as the titular character Enola Holmes, younger sister of the already great Sherlock Holmes, played by Henry Cavill Enola embarks on her own mystery as she tracks down her missing mother (the ageless Helena Bonham Carter) and in doing so unravels more than she bargained for. Our second film, this one on Prime, Hunt for the Wilderpeople stars Julian Dennison and Sam Neil and is written and directed by Taika Waititi. Set entirely in New Zealand, it tells the story of Ricky (Dennison) who is bouncing about the foster care system and winds up in the care of Sam Neil's Hector and his wife. But it isn't long until they find themselfs at the centre of an unintentional man hunt.
In our first episode of the year we look back at the mess that was 2021 and find our “staying in” highlights - films, TV and games - and review our film club picks, which were Gosford Park and Gone Girl. You may not remember these being picked and you would be right. Our last episode is lost - it was a banger too, sorry about that. We also dive into the first solid news on PlayStation VR2! OMG it's got lots of cool features! Of course we are excited! But should we be? We are recording on new hardware now, it's not gone fully to plan. I'm a bit quiet on this and Dave has some echo. We promise this will be resolved by the next record.
After a lengthy absence we are back. Our news chat is a little late as we recorded this a while ago. Then next episode is also already recorded too, so in only a week we'll be back in your ears! So what's in this episode? A whole host of film chat, boy oh boy Dave can't half eat his way through films! And we chat about the Sony show before we dive into our film club, which is Akira and Sicario - two very different films!
The Dark A new bread of horror? Find out in the film club with our horror double bill! Here we go again, we've gone horror with our film club! Blood Red Sky and The Dark are up for discussion but before we dive into those little horrors, we have a bit of chat about the bits that leapt out to us from Games Con (DokeV and the interesting prospect of EFL and E-Football - R.I.P PES) and we talk about Netflix's second series of Love Death and Robots, Dave sells me on Amazons Primes Cruel Summer and gives his thoughts on Don't Breath 2 and I'm here to tell you about Crashing - because no one is / was talking about it and it needs some love! Because it's bloody good! Thanks for reading this far but really you should be listening by now!
Here we are with a couple of interesting picks for the film club. 40 Year Old Version, written, directed and staring Radha Black. Ghost World features a young Scarlett Johansson, Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi. That's all you get, go watch them or listen without seeing them - come get involved.
The Dead Don't Die is joined by Leave No Trace in The Film Club in this episode of We Don't Go Out. We also say our farewells to PES (RIP) and chat about Augusts games on PS+. That's it, short and sweet.
Nintendo have announced an update to the Switch, not really the “Switch Pro” people had been hoping for but is it enough to satisfy the needs of the Nintendo nerds? Hear one Nintendo nerd talk it out with a Nintendo neutral. Sony had a State of Play, hear us talk about all the games shown off there before we dive into our film club with Sci-fi thriller/drama I Am Mother and 80's horror film The Changling. Join in and enjoy.
Here we are again. E3. But not as we know it. We look forward to the beloved games show as it gears up to presnet the whole show, without Sony (again), digitally for the first time. Streaming all the conferences and content due to the global pandemic. Then of course we talk about our films in the film club, Army of The Dead and Goodnight Mommy.
Here we about films and games! That's our MO! You know the drill! Palm Springs and Time is Illmatic are our films in the film club and we talk a bit about the games we have been playing. Plug us in your ears and enjoy!
In this, our Film Club Special, we round up all the films that we sat and watched in the Film Club over the year we are all looking forward to forgetting, 2020. We narrow the list down to a personal top 3 each and we crown our Film Club Film of 2020! Then we instantly kick off the 2021 Film Club by talking about the first two films - The Midnight Sky staring George Clooney and The Gentlemen with Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hannam, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant and others. Zero games chat this episode!
Here we are, a little later than planed, but here none the less. Here you can hear us add our thoughts to the balls up that was the launch of the most hyped game of the year, before a mini review of BugSnax and shout out to a forgotten gem. Then our film club, the films this time around are Rare Exports and Krampus! Enjoy!
Here we are, at the beginning of the new generation of consoles. More history to cram in to 2020. In this episode we talk about Sony's offering. The PlayStation 5. With it's love it / hate it looks landing in our hands, find out what we think about the console and it's fancy new pad and the launch games. Then we get down to discussing the We Don't Go Out Film Club. Up for discussion this time; Parasite (streaming on Prime) and Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers (Netflix). And we reveal our festive picks for our Christmas episode. What are you waiting for, stuff us in ya lug holes and let us flood your cranium with unimportant stuff, because the unimportant stuff can be some of the best stuff there is.
So here we are, bring us right up to date. The eve of the (UK) Playstation 5 launch! Has Dave caved and ordered one? Has collecting in store blown up in Ant's face with a new lock down? Find out by listening and join in the film club. The films in this episode are BLACKkKLANSMAN and Raising Kratos. Let us flood your ears!
Big Xbox and PlayStation chat, a bit behind the news cycle but stay tuned, a second pod is about to pop as well. Recorded weeks apart but these two pods bring us up to date and now we stay up to date! Also, in the film club, Good Time and Knives out!
A bumper film club review this episode because of the missed film last time. And of course we continue to get excited about about the coming change in console generation. PS5 is so close now.
In this episode we come to different conclusions about Christopher Nolan's The Prestige in our film club, after a chat about all the goings on in the build up to the next generation of consoles!
Here we go! The Playstation 5 shows it's futuristic curves to the world and split opinion here at We Don't Go Out and globally; the shape, the white, the black, everything is looked at and dissected - well, until we get our hands on it wha else can we do. We also look at the extensive games shown off before we talk about our film club films, Ready Player One and The Love birds. Lots to stuff in your ears here!
Very sorry for the tech troubles in this episode, they don't last the whole episode as we gave in and recorded most of it the night after.
Back for our first film club chat post the reboot. Still locked down? Or maybe “Working from home” ;) Get some films watched and join in the chat! This time, disturbing cult goings on in the Swedish summer sun in Midsommar and an action packed, err, action film in the form of Extraction. And of course, gaming chat abounds!
We are back! It's been a while. Things have changed. Quite a lot actually. But our podcast is all about staying in, it was before the pandemic and it still is now. We talk games and films. New consoles launch this year, or at least, that's the plan, so we talk about that before rebooting the film club, where we pick two films, one from Netflix and one from Prime, give you a week or two to watch them, then we talk with full spoilers about them in the next pod along with our game chat. So welcome back, or welcome. We hope you find something you like here and stick around :)
In this episode we talk (with full spoilers) about our film picks for our movie club, which are, Terminal and The Ballard of Buster Scruggs. Terminal, a film we've almost picked a few times from when we first started this section of the pod, and now it's being watched, were we right to pick it? Watch it on Amazon Prime and catch Buster Scruggs on Netflix. We also catch up with what else we've been watching, including The Shape of Water and we find out if Dave is getting the most out of his Switch.
Microsoft show a glimpse of their next gen hand on stage at E3, so like the dutiful vulgars we are, we pick over facts, mix in a little speculation and hold them up to what we know about Sony's next gen plans. A quick look over the rest of the E3 highlights (I know, we are very late) before our Movie Club! The films you need to have watched on Netflix and Prime for this podcast are Our Kind of Traitor and The Secret of Marrowbone.
Dave only when and got a Nintendo Switch, and if you want to hear a man being casual to the point of not arsed about Nintendo's greatest console (yeah, I said it) you're in the right place! We also have our film club films to talk about. Those are Fences staring and directed by Denzel Washington and Lars and The Real Girl with Daves' man crush Ryan Gosling.
On the menu this episode: Gangster Squad and Triple Front come under scrutiny in our Netflix and Prime viewing picks. Lots of TV chat. No gaming chat, but that will change next time around…
Remember, in the last episode we picked 47 Meters Down and What We Do In The Shadows to talk about this episode with full Spoilers. So if you haven't watched them yet they are both streaming now on Netflix and Prime.
This has been in the oven for longer than intended due to me (@AnthonyHulse) getting struck down with flu - not Man Flu but actual Flu. So the edit didn't happen for a long time. But here it is. And you've had extra time to watch our Netflix and Prime picks (Bird Box and You Were Never Really Here). This together with our gaming chat and finding out Dave has a wonky leg rounds of the episode. Enjoy!
Get in touch: @WeDontGoOut on twitter and IG and @AnthonyHulse and @DaveHolmes82
We look ahead to 2019's games and films and reboot Netflix club! @WeDontGoOut on Twitter and Instagram
TellTale close their doors for the last time. TV chat. Bit of PES chat, little bit of Red Dead 2 along with a smattering of other things along with our Netflix club where we chat about Nick of Time.
Rather late Spider-Man chat, like I said, I'm running behind, but more are inbound! We'll be up to date soon!
Hello, I am behind with these pods. This one was recored a while ago. Give it a listen, there is lots more on the way!
This time we talk about Detroit. First impressions as we get to grips with David Gage's new game. Also, Dave gets stuck into Statik, which is by far and away my favourite VR game! Does Dave agree with me? Get listening! Also, Netflix Club!
It's nearly time. The hype is building. The big players are getting ready to go toe to toe. What? No, not the World Cup! It's E3 baby! And this is where we chuck out some predictions so we can look silly later! Enjoy!
This episode I (Ant) unwisely mouth off about my Trackmania skills to petrol head Dave - I never learn. We talk about the gaming news that has peaked our interest and discus our Netflix Club pick: Spot Light.
Here we are again, diving into the joys of staying in. On this episode opinions are divided over the PS4 game, What Remains Of Edith Finch. We discus our Netflix Club film pick The Polka King and we recap all we've been up to while not going out. Enjoy.
Like a beautiful sunny day, you never can tell when a We Don't Go Out episode will come along to lift your mood. Or maybe you live in a part of the world where being drenched in sunshine is an everyday kind of thing. If that's you, think of us more like bird shit. We just drop unexpectedly. Anyway, here we are. Shitting on your sunny day - I may have lost control of this. Moving on, so what's in this episode? Game chat, because that's what we do. Layers of Fear, Rime, Little Nightmares DLC, Nintendo direct and probably others I'm forgetting. And film chat, we do that too. Netflix club! 2 films to catch up on there! Concussion and Mute.
In our last episode we, on a whim, said we should both actually put down on paper a personal top ten games list. I hadn't noticed before that my (@AnthonyHulse) own top ten list actually consisted of 27 games. And Dave's (@DaveHolmes82) list was equally mathematically challenging. But we did it, and here they are! With full on gushing over the games that have stuck with us!
