Chances are you have heard a woman poking fun at a man in her life for having a cold and — let's just say — not handling it very well. The idea has been parodied hundreds of times in standup performances and internet comedy sketches. But research shows there may be some biological and evolutionary factors that indeed make male and female experiences of having a common cold feel different. University of Minnesota professor of ecology, evolution and behavior Marlene Zuk says there's evidence that many men may suffer more from the effects of infection. She joins MPR News host Cathy Wurzer to explain.
Er is een onderwerp dat zo belangrijk is en zo groot, maar wat tot nu toe altijd onbesproken bleef. Het is misschien wel een grotere ergernis tussen koppels dan de “man met een hobby”, DE MAN FLU!! OH MY! Onze inbox is ONTPLOFT!! We kick off this ep with a beautiful moment from Ash as he gifts Matt a present for his b'day. What a lovely guy! Ash then breaks the news that he's being kicked out of his apartment and they have 30 days to find new digs. Maybe it's for the best because there's been a recent crime spree. We know what you're thinking - no it's not Mr Freeze - it's actually a bunch of nightmare teenagers. Ash has just the idea to pull them into line.. VIGILANTE MUMS ! Matt's been sick as a dog and both girls have had gastro so it's been a bloody nightmare of a week for the Johnson's. Only problem is, Laura has the new Covid tests that also test for every type of flu under the soon. Guess what Matt tested positive for?? Not telling... listen to the ep ! It wasn't so long ago that one phrase sat above any other in the hierarchy of endorsements for a British or Australian male: “He's a good bloke.” You don't hear it as much in 2024 because blokehood is under attack across the Western world. Historically positive masculine virtues are now shamed as toxically masculine. At a minimum, blokeishness is derided as boorishness by our social betters in the media, politics, business, and culture. The first step to reclaiming blokehood is understanding it, which is what Geoff Norcott has done. As a rare right-winger, Geoff is a unique voice in British comedy, and has been hugely successful on the stand up circuit, with his podcast, and on TV. A shorter Boxing Day Spaces and differing opinions are at the heart of whatever this thing is. Here everyone was frustrated but after a series of improving performances a few of the potential weaknesses all came home to roost.Wendover picks over a disappointing set of performances but hopes the transfer window might be used to bring in fresh faces and legs in January. Sean, having called out Bristol City's Mehmeti when at Wycombe looks over the set pieces and areas of open play where we were ponderous collectively and individually. We say hello to Boyd for the first time in a few weeks and he calls out our failings but hails Bristol City's attitude and tactics on the day and agrees that the reaction from the manager and squad on Friday against Stoke is now of pivotal importance. The lack of movement from Rajovic is discussed again along with his lack of contribution in open play.Justin joins for a few moments before putting Boxing Day Football behind before Ant joins us with a suggestion that we should “think twice” and everything gets a bit Celine Dion-esque for a Titanic of a game but hoping that the game was a blip of a performance but takes responsibility for the result as for the first time in months he put a bet on Watford to win. Ant again goes rogue and starts asking Pete questions!!! We ask if we are asking too much in expecting consistency from Ryan Andrews so early into his first team career.Ellie joins us to say what is needed which is experienced players and squad depth neither of which we really have, Shane joins us with dwindling levels of disappointment but rising levels of champagne cutting it out and disagrees with Ellie and Ismaels selection upfront of Rajovic, calls out Asprilla and Sierralta's roles helping out Ryan Andrews in the first half. Finally, Charlie joins us from beneath “Man Flu” and points out that in his eyes there were no positives and that we have a regular habit of conceding the first goal and after doing this a number of times it was always going to catch us out eventually.COYH and Merry Christmas to all! This Podcast has been created and uploaded by Do Not Scratch Your Eyes. When you have kids, you take on an unimaginable responsibility. Most of us realize that, for the first time, we care more about another human being than we do about ourselves. So you put the “self“ on the back burner for a few weeks... and then a few months... and then a few years... and then? This episode is about that metamorphosis, and about finding yourself again after becoming a parent. What does that process look like? When and how do we start to prioritize our own lives as the kids get older? And are we really trying to get back to who we once were, or is this about becoming someone new... maybe even someone stronger than who we were before. Let's go.
