PsyOp Cinema joins me to cover Anya Taylor Joy films, which often contain themes of dissociation and initiation: although we will not be covering Northman or The VVitch (as we have already covered them), we will be exploring the themes in her films as a the new Milla Jovovich (who also often appeared in MK Ultra / MPD films). We will cover Morgan, Marrowbone, Menu, Witch, Split and more. PsyOp Cinema is here: https://twitter.com/CinemaPsyop Their Patreon is here: https://www.patreon.com/PsyopCinema
Our appearance on Jay Dyer's show, discussing the Anya Taylor-Joy films The Menu, Marrowbone, and Morgan. We also reference several of her other films, including The New Mutants, Last Night in Soho, Split, Glass, and The Witch. The music videos she's acted in, her modeling career, and certain odd aspects of her background all come into our analysis. Mainly, we discuss the astounding consistency of initiatory and trauma-based mind control themes in her work, and the relation of all this to transhumanist and occult ideologies.https://jaysanalysis.com/https://twitter.com/Jay_D007 https://twitter.com/CinemaPsyophttps://www.patreon.com/PsyopCinemahttps://linktr.ee/psyopcinemathomas-psyopcinema@protonmail.combrett-psyopcinema@protonmail.com

In my quest to dig into Irish whiskey history, this may be one of my favorite episodes yet. We start off with one of the great legends of Ireland - a legend tied to the area I was traveling through, the Boyne River Valley. I get to visit Slane Distillery, taste their whiskey and head over to Boann to learn the experimental side of that distillery and more legends. Meanwhile, I dig deep into the 17th century, when Irish uisce beatha was gaining a great reputation in London, until a Dutch upstart stole the show. All this and a beheading and rebellion - this week on Whiskey Lore.

#134 The Suicide Squad, The Green Knight, Drive This weeks' show has a mixed bag of films. Remaking or reintroducing The Suicide Squad was a step up even if things made about as much sense as the plot did the last time around. The Green Knight gave us a beautifully constructed legend as old as time but equal parts confusion and awe. Drive, in its 10th anniversary, is a stylish and simple story of a man with no name following his ironclad code to protect the woman he loves. Join me for My Chat about the Marrowbone Lane bottling that the Irish Whiskey Society released in 2016. In a nod to the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, where the William Jameson distillery in Marrowbone Lane in The Liberties area of Dublin was used as a stronghold by the Irish Republicans. This landmark release of this 11yr old Single Pot Still Irish whiskey, in the heavier, oilier trad pot style stands out as one of the best Irish Whiskeys of the modern age imo. I spoke to Peter White (who was IWS vice-president at the time), Fionnán O'Connor (Author of A Glass Apart & cask committee at the time) and Willie Murphy aka PotStillWill (also IWS cask committee at the time) who were instrumental in getting this Midleton distillate bottled and released for all to enjoy. https://www.irishwhiskeysociety.com/ Willie Murphy: https://twitter.com/PotStillWhiskey Peter White: https://twitter.com/thewhiskeyguy1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Glass-Apart-Irish-Single-Whiskey/dp/1864707232 Have a listen in our chat, Sláinte.

We return to the trenches of the first World War to consider Sam Mendes’ 1917 within the greater history of World War I films generally, and as a companion to Peter Weir’s GALLIPOLI specifically. Following some debate over whether 1917’s continuous shot gimmick makes it more or less emotionally affecting, and an attempt to parse the film’s attitudes about war, we look at these two films in tandem to consider what they have to say about the failures of leadership in wartime, their respective depictions of young male friendship and communication, and to what extent each registers as an anti-war film. Plus, Your Next Picture Show, where we share recent filmgoing experiences in hopes of putting something new on your cinematic radar. Please share your comments, thoughts, and questions about GALLIPOLI, 1917, or anything else in the world of film, by sending an email to comments@nextpictureshow.net, or leaving a short voicemail at (773) 234-9730.
Microsoft show a glimpse of their next gen hand on stage at E3, so like the dutiful vulgars we are, we pick over facts, mix in a little speculation and hold them up to what we know about Sony's next gen plans. A quick look over the rest of the E3 highlights (I know, we are very late) before our Movie Club! The films you need to have watched on Netflix and Prime for this podcast are Our Kind of Traitor and The Secret of Marrowbone.
In this episode, Cal Folger Day talks to Martin Cook about her journey from playing classical music on the piano and sticking strictly to the sheet music, to writing her own songs and arranging verbatim pop operas – and she performs some of her songs for an audience at Marrowbone Books in the Coombe.
Elizabeth Laprelle’s first singing partner was, she says, her mother Sandy Newlin. In this month’s Music at Marrowbone Books, Laprelle talks to Martin Cook about ballads and banjos, combining story-telling with music, and the influence of her hometown barber. “I’m a collector, not a composer,” she says, finding pleasure in songs that may not be new, but are new to her. Some are from the US’s southern music traditions, others from northern. Listen to the breadth of a collector’s repertoire, and you can see their personality, she says. This episode also includes snippets from Laprelle’s recent performance with Newlin at Marrowbone Books in the Coombe – with the songs they have collected.
Rachel Ní Chuinn swapped guitar for clarinet a few years ago, which she melds with live electronics into expressive sound. In this month’s Music at Marrowbone Books, the musician and sound artist – and member of the Dublin Laptop Orchestra – performs some of her improvisations. They build on themselves, reverberating, layer upon layer. Thinking about sound as a physical medium has led Ní Chuinn down all kinds of paths. From music exploring the afterglow static of the Big Bang, to works inspired by the acoustics of neolithic caves.
Sinéad and Catríona Kennedy often play Donegal-style traditional tunes, but sometimes they're originals. Where do those songs come from? It's like they're hanging in the air, in a space, waiting to be plucked, says Sinéad. "I feel like tunes are kind of around, and you happen upon them." In this month's Music at Marrowbone Books, the Kennedy Sisters chat with Martin Cook about the origins of their fiddle-playing, singing with neighbours – and, of course, they play and sing a little too.
