Leadership isn't about a position; it's a lifelong practice. This perspective highlights the strategic use of informal networks and collaboration to drive systemic change. For decades, we have had the narrative focused on “fixing women” to fit leadership moulds rather than addressing systemic biases and looking at how to fix the system. In this conversation we explore how the very skills often dismissed as "soft"—context awareness, emotional agility, adaptive thinking, collaborative workload management—are exactly what drives systemic change. Research backs this up: women managers disproportionately champion DEI initiatives and build stronger teams. Yet these skills remain undervalued. Why? Because we haven't disrupted the power dynamics that determine what "leadership" looks like.Real change happens when we: Build cross-functional coalitions; Make implicit power structures more explicit; Consciously leverage privilege to create space for different approaches ;Use informal networks intentionally & strategically to create momentumThis isn't about adding more women to broken systems. It's about redesigning the systems themselves.Jodi generously shares her research, insights and experience as weexplore how leadership, courage, and values converge—and how factors like caregiving, generational wisdom, and a career-long view can transform how we lead today. The main insights you'll get from this episode are :Leadership is about collaborating, creating better workplaces/community environments, and bringing together courage and values - caregiving, generational wisdom and a career-long view of impact can transform leadership. It takes courage to transcend hierarchy - leadership is not a title or position, but a lifelong practice to overcome the fear of retribution; finding moments of clarity aligned with our values makes this easier to withstand.Integrity and clarity bring courage and confidence; we always have agency, which can become leadership capital and have a lasting legacy – the need for women to constantly codeswitch between multiple identities brings many skills, e.g. communication, holding space, EQ, context intelligence, etc.The skills to navigate complexity involve mental and emotional agility; we can use these skills to disrupt systems and biases to leverage strategic thinking and relationships - formal leadership provides a platform and greater sphere of influence (to bring about change). It is important to seek allies in a network of champions and create our own spaces - being effective is an act of disruption and diplomacy, and positioning goals in the context of the mission and organisation appeals to people's decency. The informal nature of power dynamics makes values-driven leadership difficult to maintain against a backdrop of value clashes – a career journey will wax and wane in terms of value alignment, but courage comes from the collective, by building a diverse and cohesive team in an effective space for shared values.Younger generations see leadership differently, and have more interest in racial justice, feminism, LGBTQ rights, etc. - different experiences give rise to new questions and subsequently new thinking.Smart organisations will capitalise on the knowledge and ideas of young people and bring it to the leadership -...

EPISODE #121 - Before “Van Halen 3” was released, Loud Dave did an interview with the King - Edward Van Halen in December of 1997. At the time, the band was in the process of pulling “That's Why I Love You” off the album and adding “Josephina.” EVH was hyped on the record, but he still dug into a lot of the past. This is a very intensely detailed interview that gets into some real old school nitty gritty minutia aimed at the hardcore VH fans.Download the podcast for free on Spreaker, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Google podcasts, Amazon Music, Podvine or iTunes. Today on The Quiet Warrior Podcast, I'm joined by Dr. Jodi Vandenberg-Daves — leadership strategist, consultant, coach, facilitator, historian, and author of Leading with Courage: A Career-Long Guide for Idealistic Women. With more than 25 years in higher education and nonprofit leadership, Jodi brings both scholarship and lived wisdom to the conversation. This episode is a gentle but powerful exploration of leadership for introverted, values-driven women — especially those working inside imperfect systems. Jodi shares how her own career journey moved from the pursuit of knowledge to the pursuit of connection, what she learned about navigating large groups as an introvert, and why values-driven leadership is essential for creating inclusive, compassionate workplaces.Together, we explore:How introverts can thrive in leadership by honouring their energy, creating boundaries, and trusting the processContext awareness as a powerful (and often overlooked) leadership strength — especially for women and women of colourWhy idealistic women need a different kind of leadership guidance than what mainstream corporate literature offersThe emotional agility and relational intelligence women bring to organisational lifeHow values-based decisions become catalysts for courage, clarity, and career directionThe importance of intergenerational wisdom, and why Boomers, Millennials, and Gen Z have more to learn from each other than we thinkJodi also shares remarkable stories from her book, including moments when women took a stand for their values — sometimes at the cost of their job — and how these choices shaped their leadership identities. One Thing Jodi Wants You to Remember“Standing up for your values — even in small moments — is what builds the courage to make bigger, life-changing decisions later on.”Resources & LinksGet Jodi's Book: Leading with Courage: A Career-Long Guide for Idealistic WomenLearn more about Jodi's work:Dr. Jodi Vandenberg-Daves | JVD Consulting LLCJoin The Visible Introvert Community for resources to help you thrive as an introvert: serenalow.com.auIf You Enjoyed This Episode…Please leave a 5-star rating and review to help us reach more introverts, quiet achievers, and idealistic leaders around the world. This episode was edited by Aura House Productions

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 594 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Brian breaks the Internet as Wampler debut The Compulsion DriveBrian has turned into Pedal Santa and Richard has been making new friends by daring to try something experimental on the Internet and the guys discuss it. Fair warning - there may be some ranting as there was a bit of a pile-on and our intrepid British King of Fuzz had to fight them off at the drawbridge (insert trumpet sound here). Wampler released The Compulsion Drive (TCD) which was Brian's tribute to a famous circuit and it has proved very popular for a number of reasons. The guys discuss some of the modifications Brian made, the special not-so-hidden dip-switches, and talk a little about some of the design choices that were made. Ozzy Osbourne's estate have put out a T-shirt that made the guys giggle in a puerile way and so it needs to be discussed. Meanwhile Josh Scott of JHS has been working on a new charity project and it has impressed Richard into sarcasm submission. What happens when organizations racing to survive suddenly scrub "equity" and "justice" from their websites—without asking the communities they serve?
