This is a stripped down podcast that is basically the recording of a Sunday morning Bible study lead by Jeff Rogers in service to the Central Church with GO Ministries. We're not exclusively "gringos" but since most of us participating are we call it the "Gringlish Fellowship" because we're gringos…

In this episode we cover a lot of ground as we finish up Luke 13. We listen in on Jesus's interactions with the Pharisees publicly and at their own table. We see his concern for Jerusalem and grief over Israel's failure to recognize his Kingdom. He meets his opponents head on over dinner and then describes the cost of discipleship. If you have questions about this study or questions about our ministry in general feel free to drop a note at gringlishfellowship@gmail.comLastly, we have some BIG NEWS!! We revisit the account of the woman healed on the Sabbath and how Jesus deals with passive aggressive critique of the synagogue leader. We discuss how the healing of this woman is an inbreaking of the Kingdom and triggers Jesus to describe what the Kingdom is like. We then spend some time reflecting on the meaning of the narrow door.If you have questions about this study or questions about our ministry in general feel free to drop a note at gringlishfellowship@gmail.comIf you'd like to make a contribution to help fund the podcast and/or our work with GO Ministries, you may do so at www.gomin.org/rogersSupport the show (https://gomin.org/rogers/)
In this episode we push into chapter 13 exploring Jesus's warnings directed at Israel to give up the the hope of a violent revolution in exchange for the hope of the Kingdom of God he is leading. He warns Israel of being a failed fig tree and heals a woman on the Sabbath as a mustard seed act and demonstration of the in breaking Kingdom. If you have questions about this study or questions about our ministry in general feel free to drop a note at gringlishfellowship@gmail.comIf you'd like to make a contribution to help fund the podcast and/or our work with GO Ministries, you may do so at www.gomin.org/rogersSupport the show (https://gomin.org/rogers/)
In this study we look again at the call to watchfulness and its implications. We wrestle with Jesus the prince of peace not bringing peace, how his own people failed to see him, and how the Jewish nationalism of the day failed in honoring God's promise to the nations.Support the show (https://gomin.org/rogers/)
This week we take one more brief pass through Luke 12:13-34 as we connect it to Luke 19:1-10. We contrast the parable of the rich man and the response of Zacchaeus to Jesus. We consider the very earthly Kingdom economics of Jesus. Later we look at Luke 12:35-48 and how it relates to missing Jesus as the Messiah as well as its implications for servant leadership.

We start Season 3 with our continuation of our study of Luke. We review and continue discussions about Gehenna & Blasphemy and make our way to 34. We'll be revisiting these passages for the next few weeks as we take different glances at the content there. This week we also discuss "all kinds of greed" and glance at the economics of the Kingdom.
During our ReVision service where we gather all of our teams serving in Santiago, Dominican Republic for a joint worship service before their return home, Jeff speaks about the Kingdom Jesus preached, the fulfillment of his Exodus and how the mission of Jesus informs our mission as his followers.
During the summer when multiple teams come and serve with GO Ministries weekly, we end each week with a family meal and family worship. During this time, teams from different churches and organizations unite locally as a manifestation of the global church in Santiago as one gathered people under the Lordship of Jesus. Each week a different staff member from GO has the opportunity to speak vision and mission into the lives of these sisters and brothers as we ordain them as sent ones and release them to return to the USA on the same mission they embarked upon to the Dominican Republic. In this Summer Bonus Episode, Vicki Rogers shares a message following this year's them of ReVision. After a brief review of the past 3 weeks we look at Genesis 3 and consider what the consequences of sin means for our relationships and our work. We discuss God's redemptive work in rescuing us from the Garden and demonstrating for us who God is, how God is, and how God equips us once more to be truly human.
In this study we take a look at the weak translation from Hebrew to English that results in the woman being a "help mate." Informed by the work of Carolyn Custis James's book, "Half the Church: Recapturing God's Global Vision for Women," we look at the Hebrew usage of "Ezer-Kenegdo," and how it informs our proper understanding of how the first woman is described in Genesis 2. We are challenged to embrace women co-laborers in life on mission.
In today's study we review the mythic creation accounts of Perusha and Tiamat and contrast the second creation narrative account of Genesis 2. This is our first pass on Genesis 2. We continue our discussion of bad yeast, the one that has the power to throw us into hell, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, and storing up at the expense of the Kingdom. This week we discuss how Jesus taught his disciples to pray and its far reaching implications. Jesus makes it known that in the Kingdom we can approach God as Father and Friend, that by seeking the Kingdom our needs will be met, and that learning and embodying a posture of forgiveness is required for our citizenship in his Kingdom. Also in this section of Luke we see Jesus challenged by critics as to where his power comes from to exorcise demons. Jesus's response results in a woman's affirmation that he both accepts and challenges as he continues to redefine family in the context of the Kingdom of God.If you have questions about this study or questions about our ministry in general feel free to drop a note at gringlishfellowship@gmail.comIf you'd like to make a contribution to help fund the podcast and/or our work with GO Ministries, you may do so at www.gomin.org/rogersSupport the show (https://gomin.org/rogers/)
As the Gringlish Fellowship celebrates Easter we take a break from the Gospel of Luke to remember the implications of the empty tomb of Jesus. In John 11 Jesus calls Lazarus out of the tomb. Later, Jesus will enter the tomb of Sin and Death to destroy its power over the world and make us, his followers, capable of continuing his mission.
This episode is an overview given to all team members and exploratory groups that visit or serve with GO Ministries. It is an account of the theological center of our Seminary as well as the overall DNA of GO Ministries work on the island of Hispaniola. We are hosting this recording here because this theology is the lens through which the Scriptures are interpretted at our Sunday gathering of the Gringlish Fellowship. We thought that this podcast would be a fitting home for it for our gathering as well as for those who would like to revisit the material at home. This presentation rests on the shoulders of several key theologians and thinkers that have influenced our work at the GO Seminary of the Americas. What is provided here is a synthesis of some of those thinkers, contextualized specifically for the Church in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. If you have interest in exploring some of the work that has informed this presentation these thinkers are worth exploring: Alan Hirsch, Michael Frost, Hugh Halter, John Howard Yoder, Stanley Hauerwas, Tim Keller, N.T. Wright, C.S. Lewis, David Fitch, Wendell Berry, and Carolyn Custis James. If you wish to support the podcast and our work on the island you may do so at www.gomin.org/rogersGrace & PeaceSupport the show (https://gomin.org/rogers/)
This week we continue the conversation about the impications of the parable of "The Good Samaritan" as well as take a deeper cultural dive into the importance of Jesus's interactions with Martha and Mary in their home. We wrap up with a few thoughts on Jesus's teaching the disciples how to pray. Today we explore the parable of the "Good Samaratin" in the context of Luke's gospel to see what we can learn from this encounter between Jesus and an expert in the law. Jesus's response to the lawyer has to surprise even his own disciples as we are each challenged to love the "other" because Jesus first loved us as "other." "Go and do likewise," remains the challenge for each of us. This ethic leads us to deny the divisions of race, nation, religion, and ideology while embracing self-sacrificing, transformational acts of love directed at our cultural enemies so that we may all be made whole by God's grace.
In this study we explore the connections between Jesus's sending of the 70 (or 72) and it's connection with Moses's appointment of 70 (or 72) elders in Numbers 11. We look at the non-coercive strategies of announcing the Kingdom and take notice of how Jesus's move towards Kingdom establishment is gaining momentum.
This week we take one more pass at the Transfiguration focusing on Luke's use of "Exodus" in the dialogue between Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. We continue to look for Mosaic themes as we work our way through the exorcism of a young boy. Later we look at the disciples' own temptation towards hierarchy and Jesus's rebuke. Finally, we close the chapter reflecting on the value of the Kingdom and what Jesus was demanding of those that would follow him.If you have questions about this study or questions about our ministry in general feel free to drop a note at gringlishfellowship@gmail.comIf you'd like to make a contribution to help fund the podcast and/or our work with GO Ministries, you may do so at www.gomin.org/rogersSupport the show (https://gomin.org/rogers/)
In this week's study we work our way through Peter's confession that Jesus is the Messiah. We discuss the implications of this claim and how the disciples would have only partially understood it. Then we move through the account of the Transfiguration and spend time reflecting on the exodus that Jesus will fulfill in Jerusalem and it's implications for the Kingdom of God.If you have questions about this study or questions about our ministry in general feel free to drop a note at gringlishfellowship@gmail.comIf you'd like to make a contribution to help fund the podcast and/or our work with GO Ministries, you may do so at www.gomin.org/rogersGrace & PeaceSupport the show (https://gomin.org/rogers/)
