We often don't realize how big and powerful God is. It is largely because we are distracted by so many other things and don't really focus on God. He often becomes smaller in our eyes. This message helps us “Refocus” on God in worship and prayer, and in all He is as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This past Sunday, Pastor Bill shared on prayer and praying to God as our Father like Jesus taught His disciples in Matthew 6:7. "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be they name..." Bill shared how prayer is an invitation to an intimate relationship with God and when we pray to our Father we're simply coming to God as His beloved children. He encouraged us that as His children, we should depend on God for everything and find our security and confidence in His love for us. He taught that in areas where we have anxiety, God wants to take us deeper into understanding of God as a loving Father. Draw near to our loving Father who desires a relationship with us. Sermon by Dr. Robert Lewis 7/14/2002 A "Second Look" at the Parthenon and Prayer Draw Close: this is really about secret prayer. The secret to a powerful spiritual life is secret prayer. Secret prayer is rewarded by a response from God. Secret prayer is direct. Secret prayer follows a specific pattern. Draw Close: this is even more about enjoying God. Opening "Encounters" in This Prayer God as Father This is the first time the disciples heard that intimate term. God as "in the heavens" God as my first concern Matt 6:5-9

Pastor Joe Fant continues his mini series "Lord, Teach us to Pray" with his sermon titled "God as Father."
In this conversation, Daniel Rogers interviews William Paul Young, the author of The Shack. They discuss the imagery of God as Father and why some people struggle with this concept. Young explains that many people have difficulty with the Father imagery because of negative experiences with their own fathers. He emphasizes that God as Father is a metaphor and not a literal representation, and that the best traits of a father can be found in the character and nature of God. Young also discusses the importance of healing our theology and reexamining our understanding of the Old Testament scriptures. He suggests looking for Jesus in the story and reading the scriptures literarily instead of literally. Daniel Rogers and Paul Young discuss various theological topics, including the nature of God, the interpretation of Old Testament violence, and the concept of eternal conscious torment. They explore the idea that God is love and that everything about God should be understood through the lens of love. They also discuss the Trinity as the mutual interpenetration of the three persons without the loss of personhood. Paul Young shares insights from his book 'The Shack' and his upcoming sequel. Overall, the conversation challenges traditional theological beliefs and encourages a deeper understanding of God's love and grace. Senior Pastor Damein Schitter continues our fall vision series, asking us to imagine people who have a future. As we recognize God as our Father and embrace His promises, it can shape our daily actions and our shared aspirations, much like a parent's hopeful dreams for their child's future.Imagine a businessman and a fisherman, each with different visions for their future—one driven by ambition, the other by contentment. Through this thought-provoking parable, Pastor Damein uncovers the significance of having a clear and focused vision for our future. By aligning our lives with the petitions of the Lord's Prayer, such as hallowing God's name and seeking His kingdom, we find freedom, joy, and clarity. These lessons help us build a sturdy foundation of hope and purpose, enabling us to live enriched lives filled with meaning and resilience. But transformation goes beyond our willpower; it requires a change in what we love. Pastor Damein emphasizes that God's love reshapes our desires, urging us to invest in communal worship and prayer. By fostering deeper relationships with God and each other, we share in His mission and experience the victory of His kingdom. Join us as we explore building a community of prayerful believers, guided by the vision of the Lord's Prayer, and support each other's spiritual growth.
Senior Pastor Damein Schitter begins our fall Vision series, centered on the Lord's Prayer. At NewCity our vision is to see the Father answer the Lord's Prayer. With this, we might ask, how does understanding the Lord's Prayer transform our daily life? The Lord's Prayer is not just a grand vision but also a practical guide for our daily walk, aligning with NewCity's mission to form and send disciple-makers.Pastor Damein digs into the profound concept of knowing God as our Father and the unique relationship we have with Him through adoption. Drawing insights from J.I. Packer's "Knowing God" and Dane Ortlund's "Gentle and Lowly," he discusses the deep security and identity that come from being adopted into God's family. Through a thought experiment, Pastor Damein illustrates the irrevocable nature of our place in God's family, emphasizing that truly knowing Him as Father can transform our lives and make us reflections of Jesus's relationship with God.Ultimately, embracing our identity as God's children provides strength and hope in times of anxiety and uncertainty. We can all "return home" to God, once we recognize signs of living in the "far country" and long for the peace found in returning to the Father.
What are your top three fears right now? How goes your battle with fear? Who's winning? The most often repeated statement in the Bible is, “Fear not.” Sounds good, but how? Originally aired in Episode 10 of Season 1, today's Summer Refresh is all about alignment with what God is actually saying when it comes to judging the interpretation of a dream. Whether you're interpreting a dream for yourself, others, or, if someone else is interpreting for you, we cover 4 valuable questions to consider as you are judging the interpretation of a dream.4 questions to consider when thinking through interpretation: Is the interpretation or message in line with Scripture? His character + nature? Is there an inner witness, or knowing in your spirit, that this is from God? Does this message or interpretation draw you closer to God, or cause you to feel further away from Him? Does this message or interpretation line up with what God is already saying to you through other avenues? (People, Scripture, other dreams, prophetic words, etc.)Margaux also lays down some key ‘tent pegs' to keep us in alignment with God's heart and within the bounds of spiritual wisdom as we judge the interpretation of dreams. This includes being aware of any lenses we might be wearing that could cloud us from seeing the way God wants us to see, or color the interpretation in a way that isn't the heart of the Father. To learn more about these 4 questions and uncover the specifics of common lenses we can wear while interpreting, check out this episode of the Summer Refresh series!*Scripture References: Matthew 10:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:21; 1 John 4:1; Galatians 5:19-23; Psalm 23:2-3; Exodus 34:6; Romans 12:19; Matthew 11:28-30; Isaiah 46:10; Acts 10:34; Ephesians 1:18-21: 2 Samuel 22:33“What God is speaking through a dream is always redemptive, it always comes from His voice and it's usually to lead you, or to correct in some way, or to speak truth, healing, and alignment.”“He is not afraid to brag on us. He is not afraid to call us out to be great…to be beautiful, and to stand in the fullness of who we are. Everything in life changes when we experience God as Father. For the Christian, this is our reality through Jesus! This new identity - as a son or daughter of God - is the most significant truth about us. The temptation is for us to find our identity in the things we do or the things that have happened to us. But it's through our relationship with God our Father that we find our worth, true identity and the love we so desperately long for. Our Father isn't disappointed in us. He will not abandon or reject us. We have been adopted. The Holy Spirit removes our shame and guilt and brings us value, belonging and purpose. He pours the love of the Father into our hearts. Being a disciple of Jesus means growing in intimacy with our Father in heaven. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 9am and 11am CST every Sunday morning. Hey Good People! I pray this episode and the Scriptures bless you as you go throughout your week. This episode is vulnerable, I may or may not have cried while praying lol. Many of us struggle to see God as our Father and come to Him because of the fatherly or familial relationships we've had or seen. My prayer is that you take time to pray for God to change your heart and show you who He is. My prayer is that you remember that God is unlike any man you've ever known. He doesn't disappoint, lie, forget, cheat, or abandon. He loves you and He wants to be close to you because He made you.Scriptures:Isaiah 64:7 – “Yet, Lord, you are our father; we are the clay and you our potter: we are all the work of your hand.”Ezekiel 36:26-27 - And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.
