Leadership is an important part of the job as a Registered Nurse. I saw a NURSE calling out some CNAs on Tik Tok a few days ago.  Working in healthcare for 16 years, I've learned how to treat and lead people. After watching this tik tok video, the first thing that came to mind was this nurse's lack of leadership and pettiness. As Registered Nurses, it is our job to lead our Trauma Techs, LVNs, and CNAs. Today I want to share some words of encouragement and tips that have helped me along the way.  Show them respect and communicate. Know their roles, capability, and comfort level. Teach them how to help you by explaining what is happening with the patient, the care plan, and what to look out for to alert you. Empower them to come to you when they are concerned Celebrate them when they come to you Let go of the pettiness and embrace leadership.

Vaught is on trial for the death of Charlene Murphey, a 75-year-old Vanderbilt patient who died on Dec. 27, 2017, after she was prescribed a sedative, Versed, but was inadvertently injected with a powerful paralyzer, vecuronium. Vaught does not deny she accidentally confused the drugs but has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Her trial a rare example of a health care professional facing prison for a medical error has been closely watched by nurses across the country who worry it could set a precedent for future prosecutions. In the wake of Murphey's death, Vanderbilt took several actions that resulted in the medication error not being disclosed to the government or the public, according to county, state, and federal records related to the death. Vanderbilt did not report the error to state or federal regulators as required by law, a federal investigation report states. The hospital told the local medical examiner's office that Murphey died of “natural” causes, with no mention of vecuronium, according to Murphey's death certificate and Davidson County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Feng Li. Vanderbilt also fired Vaught and negotiated an out-of-court settlement with Murphey's family that barred them from publicly discussing the death. The error was revealed months later when an anonymous tip alerted Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Tennessee Department of Health. The health department also alerted the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which began a criminal investigation.

    Fear

Fear is False evidence appearing real It only has weight or life if we give it power. It only comes to reality when we give it life or speak life into it. The next time something fear-based comes to you. Please write it down on a piece of paper. Flip the paper over and write is true or false, and why? Then ask yourself what you can do at that moment to move forward beyond the fear. For example, Years ago, I wanted to achieve my bachelor's in nursing. It was a goal I've had for a long time. I was afraid of math. I know I waited for years to go back because I thought I would have to take math. I wrote on my paper Bachelor of Nursing, and I flipped it over to write my fears. I am afraid to take a math class and fail. It seemed so silly when I read the only thing holding me back was math. So what could I do at that moment to move beyond fear? Could you take action to move me forward? I called to see what classes I needed. Guess what? I didn't need math; I was stressing myself out. I missed years of opportunities because I was afraid. So let me ask you, what could you be missing out on because of fear? Try the exercise and share with me what came up. What is your action to move forward?
