Kyle and Sarah bring to you all of the things that keep their relationship together from video games to nerd culture and beyond
I think you guys have figured this out by now but we just go away for a while and then come back abruptly. At least we have a lot to talk about. We took a trip out west to one of our favorite cities, San Francisco. We spent a day and a half in Napa taking a chance to go to the Francis Ford Coppola Winery and to Del Dotto Vineyards. Del Dotto stores their barrels in huge dugout caves and their tastings are INCREDIBLY generous. We then headed into SF where we ate at Marufuku Ramen and took a history and food tour of Chinatown and Little Italy. We ended our trip with a drive down to San Jose to take a two hour tour of the Winchester Mystery House, a 160 room mansion built by the widow of the heir to the Winchester rifle company Sarah Winchester. This mansion has stair that lead to nowhere, doors that open up to a 15 foot drop off the side of the house, skylights that never see the sky and windows that never catch the sun, it is bizarre but beautiful. Once again we are back from an unannounced hiatus but this time our lack of content was caused by something much more dire. After Sarah’s ankle reconstruction surgery she spent 4 days in the ICU due to a massive blow clot in each of her lungs. Everything is good now and she is almost back to normal but it was touch and go for a while there. On a lighter note, we were able to check out a few Disney resort restaurants while Sarah was confined to a wheelchair. Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Artist Point Storybook Dining also at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Sanaa at Kidani Village in the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Toby Fox, developer of the the beloved Undertale, dropped a new “game” on Halloween called Deltarune. Many are speculating that this is a playable trailer for Toby’s next game set in the Undertale universe. In other news, I have contracted an illness known as RDR2. I hate the main character but for some reason I keep playing… weird. First, we checked out the new show to take over the Bill and Ted Stage at HHN, Academy of Villains. Next we head over to EPCOT for the Food and Wine Festival before finishing off with the Mike Shinoda concert at the House of Blues Orlando.
Howl-O-Scream this year in Tampa was incredible. With Universal right down the road, Tampa needs to match or exceed the standards put up by the halloween giant. The production value is on par and in a lot of instances the scares are better. If you have never been, now is the time to go. Just maybe think about getting a “Front of the Line Pass” if you are going on a Saturday. This year everyone is talking about Stranger Things and the house at HHN 28 does not disappoint. We follow up with our remaining 5 houses including Seeds of Extinction, Stranger Things, Poltergeist, Trick r Treat, and Halloween 4. These houses are gorgeous and really put you in the story they are portraying like standing in the middle of Joyce’s living room to standing at the bottom of where a swimming pool would be complete with the famous phrase “You moved the headstones, but you didn’t move the bodies.” Check out our full thoughts here! The best Disney deal is upon us. Not only do you get into the Magic Kingdom for way less but you get a butt load of candy and an incredible show and parade lineup to boot. This year they added some live actors to some of the rides and changed up a couple others. There are also special snacks and treats as well as exclusive meet and greets that you only get during this event.
Haunt season is upon us so time for us to come out of hiding. We went to HHN Orlando on opening night and are bringing back our takes from 5 of the 10 houses this year. Slaughter Sinema, Dead Exposure: Patient Zero, Scary Tales, Carnival Graveyard: Rust in Peace, and Blumhouse.
We checked out the fairly new speakeasy: Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. If you have ever been to a speakeasy before just imagine that but with a unique Disneyfied-tiki flare. The drinks are stellar, the theming is perfect and every drink comes with a show.
Our main topic is our weekend trip to New York. We were actually able to catch quite a few shows in that short amount of time. We saw “My Fair Lady”, Hello, Dolly!”, “Wicked” and “Boys in the Band”. We also went to the observation deck at One World Trade Center and ate the rest of the time.
New Pokemon for Switch is a real thing!!! Lets go Pikachu and Lets go Eevee are real and we are pretty excited. The Pokemon Go integration looks non-intrusive and the changes they made we can live with especially since we are getting a traditional mainline Pokemon game for Switch next year. Also, a new Fallout is coming in the form of Fallout 76. From what we have been able to find out, it looks to be an online survival RPG and even Sarah is excited to get her hands on it.
We are getting pumped about the rumors circulating around the new Pokemon game for Switch, which of course leads us down a nostalgic path of days of Pokemon past. We also talk about going to see Deadpool 2 and Book Club. Don’t worry, no spoilers
So… we went through the Walking Dead experience at Universal Hollywood and our consensus is that it is HHN for babies. I’m also not sure but I think we are now going to Wild Adventures in Valdosta…
We went to LA and did way too much stuff. Not only did we go to Disney and Universal but also managed to take an LA tour of celebrity homes, the walk of fame, the Chinese theater, Beverly Hills, the Famers Market and much more. We ate at In-N-Out, saw the Santa Monica Pier and walked the Venice Beach Boardwalk. We are also starting a NEW podcast called ParkHoppers that focuses solely on our theme park adventures. If you want to hear about the two Disney Parks and Universal Hollywood then check out ParkHoppers right here on Tuesdays at noon
Sarah was able to ride the new Fast and Furious Supercharged ride at Universal Studios in technical preview.
Every AAA game has a music score but do many gamers realize what is playing in the background while they are mowing through demons on the surface of Hell or sparing the life of a poor defenseless Froggit?
We are finally giving you the scoop on our Halloween on the High Seas Honeymoon aboard the Disney Dream.
Do you guys even like our content? We do these things every single week and we have not really gotten a lock on what our subscribers like us to talk about. We welcome any feedback you guys give us, we can’t do anything different if we don’t know. We talk about the announcements from the most recent Nintendo Direct. Everything from Smash to Luigi’s Mansion
Since getting our Disney passes we have been trying to try more of the in-park food in the Disney theme parks. So far everything we have eaten inside Disney has been really good, like actually worth your money good. Between Disney, Universal and Seaworld who comes out on top when it comes to food? Is it even worth spending your money?
Not sure if discussions on mass shootings and Disney fireworks shows go together but here we are. After the mass shooting in Parkland, FL we heard once again that it is violent video games, tv, and movies that cause people to commit atrocities. Don’t let them try to change the subject this is about gun control, NOT video games. To lighten things up we talk about the Star Wars Galactic Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios which inevitably leads us into talking about all things Star Wars.
Sarah and I talk about the announcement and rumors of the upcoming Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Sarah got onto a float and got to throw beads in Universal Studio’s Mardi Gras Parade.
We talk about the new story based DLC for Breath of the Wild. Don’t worry, no spoilers. We also talk about the incredibly lame Mardi Gras parade in Leesburg.
Nintendo has its reaction to VR and it comes in a cardboard box, well… is a cardboard box. We also talk about Sarah’s love of Animal Crossing Pocket Camp.
We did a couple cool things over the holiday weekend. We went to St. Augustine to try out the St. Augustine Distillery as well as the St Augustine Wild Reserve, where they care for a number of big cats and wolves. Then we went to Disney Springs to try the new VR experience “Secrets of the Empire.” If you have not tried it we highly recommend it. Sorry again for my microphone, I have deduced that the mic has gone bad and I will be looking into getting it replaced. Thanks!
We bought Disney World annual passes and the first thing we did was head to Hollywood Studios to check out Tower of Terror for the first time. Sorry about the audio again, I am not sure if it is the mic, cable, or channel but I will figure it out and make it great the next time!
Did you miss us? We missed you! Come check out why we haven’t recorded in nearly six months.
Pro tips are coming your way. Sarah and I got a room at the Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Studios Orlando. by doing that, we were able to save $800 in Express Pass costs.
For Sarah’s birthday we were able to head to New York for the weekend to check out a few Broadway shows including War Paint; Kinky Boots; Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812; Hello, Dolly! and Present Laughter. You can check out the Tony performances of Hello Dolly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-3SEz7QFGA War Paint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_5Jz0ug7uo Great Comet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRkREhyFHz8
Sarah and I got to ride Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon. It was really good but the best part was the queue.
Who won E3? We think it’s Nintendo… Yes… That Nintendo. They gave us the most surprises this year, most everything we saw this year we already knew about or could extrapolate from other sources. We give you our takes on a couple of the other conferences such as Sony and Bethesda.
This year E3 is open to the public. That means that anyone who wanted to go could get a ticket whereas before it was a closed event that was very press centric. This could potentially blow up in the industries’ face. We also talk about the rumors surrounding Universal Orlando’s Super Nintendo World expansion.
We found another one folks, another victim of outrage culture but this time it is focused towards Nintendo and their new vuluptuous fighter from Arms, Twintelle. Tanya DePass turns to Mic saying she “couldn't get excited like everyone else. All [she] could think about was her hair. Specifically, the fact she's a brown, female character with weaponized hair.” Her call to action: to tell us all how the "Twintelle blunder" is "an urgent reminder why better hair options matter."
Last week we were off because Kyle was busy getting that Bachelor’s Degree. We also talk about a video gamer community Kyle has been a part of where all they talk about is Watch Dogs 2.
We discuss this archaic view point that video game publishers on Fall video game sales. The majority of gamers are not kids anymore, there is no reason that we need to "wait for Christmas" when we make our own money and buy or own games. We also get into the culture of "release now, then fix the problems."
Sarah and I go through the E3 rumors surrounding PlayStation and Nintendo. Will this be another awesome year for Sony and will Nintendo build on the momentum it has created with the Switch? We will find out starting June 10th.
Sarah and I discuss whether or not Breath of the Wild really is a 10/10 or if reviewers and others (us) are giving Nintendo a pass because this is The best game that Nintendo has ever released.
My good friend John Myers joins me to talk about all of the things that make Horizon Zero Dawn a masterpiece. Spoiler free!
With the Battle of Berkeley behind us we can't help but think about how we got here. When has violence ever helped a civil cause? How come democrats think republicans are crazy? How come republicans think democrats are crazy? we also discuss the scary situation we are in involving North Korea and Russia.
While playing our old GameCube games, a very interesting thought came up between us. Do old video games hold up?
This is what it looks (and sounds) like when to millennials try to talk about why they are nostalgic and then become nostalgic...
Have you ever had that one friend that makes sure to have an opinion about everything even though they have no idea what they are talking about? Welcome to the internet age, where one person can call out a game for "cultural appropriation" from the reviews alone. Get out of here with that nonsense and play the game before you make baseless accusations! Horizon Zero Dawn does so many things well by normalizing women in power, women of color in power, interracial relationships, homosexual relationships and so much more. So screw this woman for taking away from that.
We talk about the new Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
In the controversy surrounding Pewdiepie in the past week or so we wanted to put our two cents in. Felix screwed up and he is taking his lashings like a man, but we should not make this into an issue of censorship. The community should stand up and put their money where their mouths are.
For Valentines Day Sarah and I talk about couples in video games and why we don't see more solid and powerful romantic relationships.
Sarah and I are currently in different states so please excuse our sporadic upload schedule for the next few months. Thanks!
After planning to talk about our favorite games of 2016 and the games we are looking forward to in 2017 we ended up talking about horror games... It seems like everything we talk about ends in horror, weird...
The Nintendo Switch finally has a price and release date... and that is about all we got from last Thursday's press conference. Zelda will be here on launch day but no Mario until the end of the year. Where are the other Nintendo properties? Metroid? F-Zero? Animal Crossing? Chibi Robo? Cooking Mama? We cover all of this and more.
As the last show we do in 2016 we would like to tell you guys about the ideas we have for the future. BTW, we are moving back home to Orlando! We talk about a hologram otaku companion and old ladies on a hunt for candles. We will hopefully be back at you some time in January after we get settled in so keep tuned to our Facebook and Twitter.
Indie developers are pushing the envelope when it comes to what we can experience in gaming. Specifically in games such as Inside, Firewatch, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and Undertale. These smaller teams are able to give us complex and meaningful stories that cause you to think and explore in your own way. We also talk about gigantic leatherback sea turtles, dogs finding Grandma by her perfume, and Jimmy Fallon geeking out over the Switch.
