We're back at HHN for another epic opening night! From terrifying mazes to chilling scare zones, hear our first impressions of Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights 2025.
Universal's roaming Art the Clown character has become a lightning rod at Halloween Horror Nights Orlando, with videos showing guests harassing, chasing, and even blocking his path. Meanwhile, Hollywood's version of the same character ran smoothly—suggesting this is less about the IP and more about training, staffing, and audience management.Philip and Scott break down why safety lapses around street performers are a business problem as much as a guest problem, and how differences in talent pools, training, and crowd “rules” create very different outcomes on each coast. Plus: what Hersheypark's recent monorail incident and other headlines reveal about the industry's biggest challenge—safety as a living, evolving plan. Listen to weekly BONUS episodes on our Patreon.

And as HHN leans on accessible IP like WWE, Fallout, and FNAF, builds in food-forward offerings, and pilots no-scare options, the question arises: is Universal future-proofing the brand—or diluting its horror core? We look through every menu, at every food booth and give you all the details you need to know.We end the episode with a minor spoiler warning section, as we cover new details that were revealed at employee preview.
Halloween Horror Nights Orlando is quietly reshaping its playbook. This year, Universal pushed queues outside the park, massively expanded the backstage infrastructure and food offerings, and layered in new entertainment to complement returning classics. From two full shows to new roaming characters, scare zone “boo boxes”, and stage moments like The Cat Lady on Crooked Lane, there's entertainment blanketing most of the park. The result: more space for guests, more reasons to linger, and an event that increasingly sells itself as a multi-night festival, not a haunted house event. This week, we discuss what these moves signal: is HHN expanding capacity by design, or evolving into a broader festival model to attract families and casual fans? And as the event leans on IP like WWE, Fallout, and FNAF—plus $20 no-scare necklaces—does this strategy future-proof the brand or risk diluting its horror core? Welcome back to Night School Horror, where we learn that apparently Portland, Oregon loves to Naruto run and Tommy's Aunt Edna/Gladys keeps breaking damn sticks like she's auditioning for Pennywise in the remake to National Lampoons Vacation. This week, Tommy and Sabrina open our doors to a new student Edy (@fieryfinalgirl) to campus as the class spirals into horror obsessions, Halloween Horror Nights hype, and the gloriously unhinged film Weapons. Think Tarantino, voodoo, witchcraft, and just enough gore to make you gag and giggle. The faculty debates if Weapons is horror, thriller, or just a fever dream with body parts and agree that not a single adult here deserves a parent-teacher conference. So yeah, expect laughs, insights, and applause breaks for carnage. Do you really want to meet Tommy's Aunt Edna/Gladys? This week in Brett's Man Cave, I was joined by my friend, co-worker, and fellow chainsaw maniac, Chris Alderete. We dove into our shared passion for the scaring business and how it's turned us into playful frenemies — especially when it comes to whose portraits and signatures end up on the infamous “Murder Wall” of art. From friendly competition to inside jokes, it's a rivalry built on mutual respect, love for the craft, and a little bit of bragging rights. We also swapped war stories from our time working at Horror Nights, comparing the bumps, bruises, and battle scars we've collected over the years. From near-misses with overexcited guests to the unforgettable nights spent bringing iconic horror characters to life, we relived the chaos, laughter, and adrenaline that keeps us coming back every season. It was a conversation equal parts spooky, hilarious, and full of respect for the art of the scare.
