We cover Sarah Boone's criminal trial. Sarah was arrested and charged with the murder of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres. Jorge died from lack of oxygen in a suitcase. Sarah is the only living person that knows exactly how he ended up in there. Sarah's trial occurred in 2024. I would argue it only served to paint her in an even worse light, but she kinda did that to herself.
Send us a textPlaywright Stuart Brown streamed into Playwright's Spotlight for a second time after technical difficulties with sound, but I hope delved a little deeper this time around. We discuss the Connecticut Theatre Market, being a critic and a playwright and how the former affected the latter, honesty as a critic, and advice to theatre companies on getting critics in seats. We also explore how being a critic helped his writing when he began to pursue playwriting, keeping your audience engaged, implementing twists and what makes a good one, and what makes a three dimensional character. We wrap things up learning curves and openness to making improvements, the success of the Questions game in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, his approach to Murder Mystery and keeping it simple, and writing a red herring and whether or not there are rules. We close it up discussing his online Broadway radio station - SoundsofBroadway.com. It's a question filled conversation with a plethora of information. Enjoy!Stuart Brown is an award-winning Connecticut playwright whose 10-Minute works have been staged in his home state as well as California, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Texas and via the British podcast, Theatrical Shenanigans. He is a theater critic with the Outer Critics Circle and the Connecticut Critics Circle and also runs the 24/7 online Broadway radio station, SoundsofBroadway.com, featuring the best from Off-Broadway, Broadway, and London stages. Plays included The Suitcase, House Hunted, and his newest play Lady Jigsaw received a staged reading at the Square One Theatre in Stratford, CT on July 10 and will lead the Chestnut Playhouse Theater's 5th annual Playwriting Festival on September 5th. John's been chained to a typewriter diarising his life experiences, and he's so confident about his memoir that he's written “this is a good book” in Bic on its cover. Something all the great authors do, and he clearly has confidence in his witty emotionally hefty prose. But anyway, in this chapter of the Elis James and John Robins show we're whisked to the sunny shores of the Iberian peninsula, because Dave has a Made Up Game that required an entire week of deliberation and a classroom's worth of children.Plus, turn another page and you'll find a one off feature which may or may not feature a dulcetly crooned jingle.Remember you can catch bonus E&J only on BBC Sounds on The Bureau de Change of the Mind. What would you take if your entire life had to fit in one suitcase? And more importantly — what would you finally let go of?This episode is a tender, honest reflection on radical simplicity. As we prepared to move to Bali, we gave ourselves a 6x6 closet to store everything for our family of three. That's it. One suitcase. One carry-on. No “just in case.” No more holding on to things that weighed more emotionally than physically. And in letting go, I found something unexpected — freedom. Space. Clarity.“When you strip it all down, the essentials become clear.”If you're craving simplicity or feel overwhelmed by what you're holding onto — emotionally or physically — this episode is for you.You might also resonate with:• 133: Holding On While Letting Go - https://youtu.be/cLtx8986-Hw• 126: How She Retired at 34 Without a 9-5 with Jenni Schulz - https://youtu.be/yT6rE2rSs-Q
When you're packing for a trip – whether it's an island getaway, a European vacation or a Disney vacation – every item should have to earn its place in your bag. And that leads to a very common travel question: Should I pack a hoodie for this vacation?Answering the Question: Should I Always Pack a Hoodie When I Travel? At 1923 Main Street®, we create travel-inspired graphic hoodies, sweatshirts and t-shirts for travelers who want comfort and style on the go. We also know the hoodie can be one of the most versatile pieces you bring—or one that takes up space without ever leaving the suitcase. How to Decide Whether to Bring a Hoodie on VacationLet's look at the pros and cons of packing a hoodie on your next travel adventure. The Pros of Packing a Hoodie for Travel 1. Versatile Comfort on the RoadA good hoodie is like a wearable comfort zone. It works in airports, on long flights, during cool evenings, or when early-morning coffee runs come with chilly air.2. Built-In Travel PillowYour hoodie isn't just clothing—it's a neck pillow, lumbar cushion, or rolled-up headrest for a train ride or airport layover nap.3. Stylish in Any SettingWhether you're exploring mountain trails, wandering city streets, or watching the sunset from a pier, a hoodie shines with relaxed, travel-ready style.4. Sun, Wind (and even Rain) ProtectionA lightweight travel hoodie can protect against sunburn on boat rides, cool winds on breezy beaches and even scorching weather on desert hikes. As a bonus, a hoodie can also work as a rain blocker in an unexpected pop-up thunderstorm. The Cons of Packing a Hoodie on Vacation1. Takes Up Valuable SpaceHoodies are bulkier than t-shirts, sweatshirts or light cardigans, so packing one can mean leaving another item behind—especially in a carry-on or if you're capsule packing.2. Slow to DryUnlike quick-dry travel shirts, hoodies can stay damp for hours if they get wet, which can be a problem for fast-moving itineraries.3. Not Essential for Every DestinationIf you're heading somewhere hot and humid with minimal indoor AC, you might never actually need a hoodie. And the number one reason for overpacking is: I might need this…Do You Need a Hoodie for Summer Travel? The answer to this question is a possible yes. Even in warm weather, a travel hoodie can be useful:Air-Conditioned Flights and Buildings – Airplanes, buses (Disney buses, anyone?) and even museums or shops can feel freezing compared to the outside.Cool Evenings and Mornings – Coastal towns, deserts and high altitudes often bring a chill after sunset – even when the daytime temps call for your lightest of lightweight clothing.Additional Sun Protection – Breathable hoodies can offer good sun protection coverage in many climates, without overheating.Expert Hoodie-Packing Tips for Travelers If you do plan to pack a hoodie for your travels, here are a few packing tips to keep in mind.Pick the Right Weight – A lightweight, packable hoodie is perfect for summer; a thicker, fleece-lined hoodie works for colder trips. The most common hoodies you'll find with be somewhere in the middle and can usually be flexible enough to adapt.Wear It in Transit – Save space in your luggage and stay warm on the plane by wearing your hoodie or tying it around your waist on travel days. Airplane pillow anyone?Roll, Don't Fold – Rolling minimizes bulk and can cushion fragile souvenirs as an added bonus.Think Multipurpose – Use your hoodie as a blanket, privacy shield, or even a light sleep mask. The Bottom Line: Should You Bring a Hoodie on Vacation? If your destination has unpredictable weather, chilly mornings, or overactive AC, a hoodie is likely a good candidate to be a smart travel companion. However, if you're headed somewhere consistently hot with little need for extra layers, you can probably skip packing that hoodie without too much regret. At 1923 Main Street, we design hoodies that earn their spot in your suitcase and for everyday wear. When someone leaves their homeland, they leave behind land, family, relationships, friendships, and memories. Smart travelers discovered the secret isn't choosing between compression and regular packing cubes, but using both strategically. Compression cubes handle bulky casual wear while regular cubes protect business attire, creating a hybrid system that maximizes space without sacrificing wrinkle-free clothes. For more information: https://www.amazon.com/8-Piece-Deluxe-Compression-Packing-Travel/dp/B096YCSSTP/ref=sr_1_1?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.BmQPnBQh7qbAaarbOJRmgg.mMuaZ5onNnTwb1smnKbVvAbXdSuRWcG51NQ6qOkmERA&dib_tag=se&gclid=fn0JysVcRC83VbtXjunuqErZTkx4RSDH5jQn3UKJQbPUkTIOdxISlu6&keywords=compression%2Bpacking%2Bcubes&maas=maas_adg_A0589CF3455C2CA5E312C4E2861E4680_afap_abs&qid=1754346233&sr=8-1&th=1 Well Traveled City: Sheridan Address: Forte Trading LLC Website: https://welltraveledgear.com/

The Girl with the Suitcase by Lesley Pearse. Mary and Elizabeth meet in London during WW2, and soon after find themselves in an air raid shelter where they're hit by a bomb, and Elizabeth dies. The hospital staff mistake their identities and give her possessions to Mary, which offers her the chance for total reinvention and a whole new life. This is classic Lesley Pearse - a strong female lead, with tragedy and heartbreak in her past who finds a way to rise above it and make something of herself. Her books are always highly entertaining, and very thoughtful. No, I Don't Get Danger Money by Lisette Reymer. Lisette spent three years as Newshub's European correspondent, a stint which coincided with the delayed Japanese Olympics (on the way to Europe), the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the death of the Queen, and many more history making events. It really is a front seat look into the life she lead through those years - moving frantically between countries, travelling with suitcases of heavy protective gear and wads of cash, surviving on adrenaline and very little sleep, and managing the on camera demands of time zone differences. You really feel as though you're there with her and it's a great insight into a job which often looks as though it must be glamorous but was often anything but. Sitting on a Suitcase: Psychoanalytic Stories (Karnac Books, 2025) contains eighteen moving tales of disparate Jewish lives from Eliat Aram, Leslie B. Brissett, Louisa Diana Brunner, Halina Brunning, Leila Djemal, Shmuel Erlich, Mira Erlich-Ginor, Franca Fubini, Stan Gold, Larry Hirschhorn, Susan Kahn, Alicia E. Kaufmann, Olya Khaleelee, James Krantz, Vega Zagier Roberts, Edward R. Shapiro, Mannie Sher, and Marlene Spero. The book begins with a thought-provoking preface from former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and ends with a sensitive epilogue from Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, both providing societal containment for what comes between them. The contents also include two non-Jewish German writers, Claudia Nagel and Dorothee von Tippelskirch-Eissing, who between them provide a bravely honest introduction and conclusions to the stories contained within. Also contained within the book are black and white photographs of the contributors' young selves that provide an additional evocative layer to the words contained within. Plus four black and white line drawings to illustrate each of the four parts of the book: Orthodox beginnings, Sitting on the boundary: Marginality and belonging, Emigration and identity, and Will history repeat itself? This was not an easy book for its authors to write, revisiting the past unlocked painful memories and re-awoke fears of persecution. The manuscript was nearing completion when Hamas attacked a kibbutzim on October 7, 2023 and the war in Gaza followed. Incidents of anti-Semitism increased worldwide and questions were raised whether the book should be held back. However, its themes became more relevant than ever and these stories need to be read. Themes such as issues around having a voice, or finding a voice during formative years; finding a family through friends; a sense of not belonging because of constant relocation, or finding a sense of belonging through family and friends. Aspects of life that resonate with us all alongside the deeper theme of the impact of Jewish identity on every facet of life. This is a book full of emotion and meaning that needs to be read by all with an interest in humanity and fostering connection and understanding across nations. Learn more about your ad choices. Today's Lake and Shed framed conversation is about J. K. Rowling's first “original screenplay,” Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Nick does his signature deep dive into the history of the Fantastic Beasts film franchise's origins in Warner Brothers' determination to keep the Wizarding World profit-pillar in their portfolio alive after the last Harry Potter adaptation — and Rowling's equal determination that they not use their copyright privilege to muck up her legacy with an Indiana Jones meets Crocodile Dundee knock-off. John takes the Shed pole in the conversation and shares his months long pursuit of the shooting text screenplay, the actual last screenplay over which Rowling had control. He lays out the (1) twelve scenes that were cut from that shooting script by Steven Kloves, David Heyman, and David Yates as they “fit the woman to the dress” of Hollywood blockbuster formula, and (2) how it made a mess of the movie's chiastic integrity. Hat tip to Kelly Loomis!New to the Lake and Shed Kanreki Birthday series? Here's what we're doing:On 31 July 2025, Joanne Murray, aka J. K. Rowling and Robert Galbraith, will be celebrating her 60th birthday. This celebration is considered a ‘second birth' in Japan or Kanreki because it is the completion of the oriental astrological cycle. To mark JKR's Kanreki, Dr John Granger and Nick Jeffery, both Nipponophiles, are reading through Rowling's twenty-one published works and reviewing them in light of the author's writing process, her ‘Lake and Shed' metaphor. The ‘Lake' is the biographical source of her inspiration; the ‘Shed' is the alocal place of her intentional artistry, in which garage she transforms the biographical stuff provided by her subconscious mind into the archetypal stories that have made her the most important author of her age. You can hear Nick and John discuss this process and their birthday project at the first entry in this series of posts: Happy Birthday, JKR! A Lake and Shed Celebration of her Life and Work.Tomorrow? It's back to a book we know was written by Joanne Murray, aka Robert Galbraith, Lethal White, the fourth Cormoran Strike novel. Nick promises to lay out the tensions between classes and castes in this book and how the story told reflects those tensions in Rowling's own life. John is set to discuss how Ibsen's Rosmersholm, the source of this book's epigraphs, is also a story template for this turning point of the first seven books. Stay tuned! 07.06.25 | AN EMPTY SUITCASE | PASTOR TODD SMITH
Imagine being a sophomore, leading the NASCAR points with Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip and Cale Yarborough breathing down your neck. That was Dale Earnhardt's reality in May of 1980. He and the Osterlund Team are fresh off back-to-back wins in hot pursuit of more trophies, but the competition is heating up. The young outfit gets a lesson in stock car excellence from Buddy Baker and Waddell Wilson, as Dale has a rematch with the Gray Ghost at Talladega. After a quiet race at Nashville and an engine failure at Dover, things begin boiling over in the 2-car's garage. As the Cup Series returns home for World 600 weekend, there was a tension you could cut with a knife between team management and legendary crew chief Jake Elder. The decision is made to turn their focus away from their Cup program to run the Mello Yello 300 Late Model Sportsman race, and Jake declares he's had enough. To make matters worse, the weekend proves disastrous when a cut tire dashes Dale's hopes of a hometown victory and slashes his points lead in half. The next day, Dale and the Osterlund team get a harsh reminder of why they call Jake Elder: “Suitcase”.

It's one of the most bizarre and disturbing cases we've covered yet: when Sarah Boone called 911 in 2020 to report her boyfriend dead, she claimed it was all a tragic accident during a game of hide and seek. But the body of Jorge Torres told a different story.... and so did the videos Sarah forgot to delete. This week, we're diving into the shocking case of Sarah Boone, the Florida woman who said she zipped her boyfriend into a suitcase “as a joke” and then left him there overnight. But investigators quickly found evidence that shattered her version of events, including horrifying footage of Jorge pleading for his life and Sarah laughing in response. We'll break down the twisted timeline, the toxic relationship history, the long delayed trial, and the controversial use of battered woman syndrome as a defense. Was this a case of reactive abuse pushed to the limit, or calculated revenge? And what does justice look like when both people in a relationship have been hurt?
