Comedian Eurydice Dixon and student Aya Maasarwe were both victims of horrific crimes. The first responding forensic expert to those scenes was Jo Glengarry. She facilitated the investigation and performed the forensic tasks which contributed to convictions. Understand Professor Glengarry's process when being a first responding forensic expert to violent and confronting scenes, and understand the personal and professional toll that these cases had on her. Host Kathryn Fox talks to Jo about and understands the nature of these crimes and how forensic experts respond and what processes go into facilitating a successful conviction. Eurydice Dixon var ein hæfileikarík kona og átti sérlega auðvelt með að fá fólk til að hlæja, svo mikið svo að hún starfaði við það. Fyrir utan það, þá var hún mögnuð kona, átti góðan kærasta, góða fjölskyldu og vini og framtíðina fyrir sér í uppistandsheiminum. Hún fékk því miður ekki að lifa til að sjá þá framtíð. When a young comedian left her gig in Melbourne, she was delighted with how well it had gone. As she began the route home, a route she often walked, the unthinkable would happen. People would be left in shock, at a crime that was referred to as “totally and categorically evil”.Sources

For the first episode of Uncomfortable Truths I interviewed Melbourne Comedian, Sofie Prints. The Queen of Dark Comedy here in Melbourne, Sofie takes her audience to some very dark places, and then breaks the tension with a killer punchline and a huge laugh! With Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows like Jesus Was A Rape Baby, and Mary's Abortion, I think you get the picture. I interviewed her inside her shed in the backyard of the house that she was moving out of in Northcote, Melbourne. She put a huge effort into decorating the inside of her shed and it was like being inside a genie's bottle. Stunning!! We discuss her history in comedy, her style of comedy, where she grew up, and attending a Catholic school growing up in the country, only to find that the principal of her school was a paedophile! Uncomfortable Truths indeed! We talk about our friend Eurydice Dixon, and Sofie lands the darkest, funniest joke about Eurydice I've ever heard. Worth listening to the podcast just to hear her gag! We discuss how I need to check in with Sofie in 4 months from now, just in case she dies, and the curse that may hang over this podcast. I play you out with a song called Dick Control. Recorded in 1999, it's an old classic from my band back then - Cosmic Egg! Founded by my husband, Clint, and myself, we sang about many uncomfortable truths. One of the those is the fact men don't always listen to women, and often they are thinking about sex! Who would have thought? It has explicit language and sexual references, so please don't listen if you are easily offended. Otherwise, enjoy the podcast, and thank you for listening to Uncomfortable Truths.
Professor James Ogloff is one of Australia's leading experts on stalking. He gave evidence in the Jill Meagher case after assessing Adrian Bailey, a matter he said was the hardest of his career as he saw the personal impact on the Meagher family. Professor Ogloff also assessed Eurydice Dixon's killer and serial killer Paul Haigh. In this episode of Twisted Minds Professor Ogloff discusses what makes a man rape and murder a random victim, and the best thing to do if you find yourself the victim of a stalker. On the 14th of June of 2018, the day after the murder of Melbourne comedian, Eurydice Dixon, police comments in the media drew the ire of the public, with the drawn inference that that women needed to exercise greater care in potentially compromising situations, like walking home alone through a park at night.Kon Karapanagiotidis, a lawyer and social worker, tweeted the following after police comments to the media:“I can only imagine the rage and fear women feel to see women die doing everyday mundane things like walking home, like they do too, only to then be told it’s their fault and that they need to be more careful,” “Stop blaming women. Make men the issue.”Hundreds of people shared the tweet, including a young 24 year old woman named Toyah Cordingley...Join Shaun and Chloe as they discuss the senseless murder of a bright and caring young woman, and the pending extradition of a person of interest.Join our Patreon community for access to exclusive extra content:Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/truebluecrimeLink to one-off Supporter donations at the bottom of show notesWebsite - www.truebluecrimepodcast.com - includes our merch storeFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/380493356066315/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/truebluecrime/Email - truebluecrime@gmail.comThis episode was produced by True Blue Media using the open source materials referenced below: Murder in Paradise - 60 minuteshttps://www.newsport.com.au/2018/november/video-toyahs-mother-pleads-for-help-to-find-her-daughters-killer/ https://www.sbs.com.au/news/queensland-police-widen-hunt-for-beach-killerhttps://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2018/oct/23/cairns-investigation-police-widen-hunt-for-killer-after-body-found-on-beachhttps://www.sbs.com.au/news/toyah-cordingley-queensland-mayor-s-plea-over-disgusting-horrific-beach-murderhttps://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-19/toyah-cordingley-murder-india-extradition-request/100018114 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8492851/Dark-history-Wangetti-Beach-Toyah-Cordingley-murdered.html https://www.qt.com.au/news/huge-response-in-quest-for-clues-over-murder-of-to/3559134/
Donald Trump has fought off the corona and said do not live in fear of the virus or let it control your lives like it has in Victoria under Dictator Dan. The Uncuckables panel discusses the latest corona clashes Tim Wilms Editor of The Unshackled, David Hiscox Editor of the XYZ, and Andy Nolch who has just been released from prison in Victoria into our open-air prison. Andy spent four months in prison for breaching his community corrections order by going overseas. He was fined 20k and sentenced to an 18 month community drawing a giant penis with spray paint on the Princes Park memorial to rape and murder victim Eurydice Dixon in 2018. Andy engaged in this vandalizism as a statement against feminists hijacking her death for their anti-male agenda. Andy has made peace with Eurydice's family, he apologized to them and her father accepted Andy's apology and forgave him. The panel also discusses the news of the week including Trump's recovery from coronavirus with the left and media triggered after returning to White House has told Americans not to fear the virus. Meanwhile, Dictator Dan tells Victorians every day they must fear the virus, even with only 10 daily cases on average Dan is hinting only a mini-step out of lockdown will take place on the next review date of October 19. States in the US still have their own coronavirus dictators, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ignored her own Supreme Court rulings striking down her emergency coronavirus powers. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing a revolt against his re-imposed lockdown in Brooklyn Jewish neighbourhood. The Morrison Government delivered the Federal Budget this week, it was accused of being sexist because it didn't mention women enough. The immigration Ponzi scheme is on the verge of collapse with an international student exodus. This is maybe way 7News this week promoted a Melbourne migration boom beyond 2020. Other developments of note the panel discusses are Lidia Thorpe's virtue signalling swearing into the Senate representing the Victorian Greens. Communists in Chile are trying to overthrow the nation's Pinochet constitution. Also, brutal farm murders against whites are still occurring in South Africa. Caili Christian (@caili) is a Melbourne comedian and founder of the Comedy Women's Association, a series of female-only comedy nights. She also helped set up the Light The Way Home Fund to help vulnerable people in comedy get home safely from shows late at night in the wake of the Eurydice Dixon tragedy in 2018. She's been called an "angry, bitter, feminist harpy" by various morons online, but she is hardly that at all, she's one of the most giving and approachable people in comedy, and we had a great chat about everything that she's doing, and Melbourne Comedy in general. Interview with Melbourne Comedian Caili Christian, who is back for round 2 after her first MAA appearance in March 2016. Caili has been keeping busy, performing 4 MICF shows in the past few years, co-establishing the Comedy Women’s Association in Melbourne (see their Facebook page for more info) and running comedy rooms. We discuss: Creating a comedy space for female-identifying and non-binary people, the #MeToo movement and the more balanced nature of line-ups in recent times, comedy becoming Caili’s world and community, comedians coming from different walks of life and sharing the stage in common, managing anxiety with pacing and relaxation, curbing social media usage for self-care, being mindful of comparisons, adopting the Mum Role and striving to make comedy a better space, encouraging people to avoid punching down and to craft better jokes, reputations vs sense of safety, remembering Eurydice Dixon and the shockwaves through the community, the polarity between men and women’s views on safety, the pain of facing the victim-blaming mentality, the charity Awkward Giraffe, the change in how the media report things, unhealthy gender stereotypes, Triple M’s No Talk Day, enjoying Steph Tisdell and Dave Woodhead on Triple J Breakfast for NAIDOC Week, the seemingly-impossible becoming reality in world politics, Plan It Change 10, lack of funding for mental health, an update on Caili’s super powers, and the brilliant Light the Way Home project to help female, trans, non-binary or other vulnerable performers get a lift home after comedy gigs (you can donate at: https://www.comedyfestival.com.au/lightthewayhome).

On today's show, we tackle everything from Gwyneth Paltrow's living arrangements to the Adani coal mine. And yes, the fact that Keanu Reeves is apparently good in bed. The ideal husband, according to Gwyneth Paltrow, is one who lives somewhere else. At least part of the time. In an interview with TheSunday Times over the weekend, Gwyneth Paltrow said she and her husband of less than a year, Brad Falchuk, live in separate homes in Los Angeles for 3 nights of the week. And a lot of you think it’s a good idea. But is it a rich person’s problem or a solution to keeping your relationship fresh? Plus, a year ago Eurydice Dixon was murdered. But has anything changed since then? Jessie did some research, and you might find yourself surprised. And we answer a group therapy about a baby and a dog that will give you all the feels. Something a little different this week, friends.Your girls do like to talk about murders, but we are not excited when they happen. Twenty-two year old aspiring comedian Eurydice Dixon was brutally raped and murdered by a stranger walking home from a comedy gig in Melbourne in June 2018. Her death has sparked outrage nationwide, particularly after police superintendent David Clayton advised women to "take responsibility" for their own safety. We are tired of hearing about the deaths of so many wonderful women and even more tired of women being blamed when a man decides to cut their life short. This week we share our thoughts, our sadness and our anger in a little bonus episode. We will release a full-length episode on the tragically short life of Eurydice Dixon after the trial. You can read about Eurydice’s impact here https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2018/jun/19/eurydice-dixon-death-male-rage-australia-women-men-attitudesYou can learn more about Destroy the Joint’s Counting Dead Women project on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/DestroyTheJointFind us on FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM or EMAIL us on murderinthelandofoz@gmail.com

In October 2017, women across the globe came together under the hashtag MeToo. However, social activist and advocate Tarana Burke had already been campaigning for women of colour under the same banner for eleven long years. In this episode, we talk about her incredibly important work, the pervasiveness of predatory behaviour, and the way women are constantly told that they should somehow take responsibility for a culture of misogyny and sexual entitlement beyond their control. A content warning for listeners that we discuss issues of sexual violence and trauma, getting pretty angry and emotional in the process. This is not an episode best suited to your morning commute! At the same time, we also celebrate the influence of this inspiring woman, and the movement that has grown up in the wake of her work. Here's some of the articles we discussed:Brockes, Emma, “Me Too founder Tarana Burke: ‘You have to use your privilege to serve other people’” 15 January 2018 https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/15/me-too-founder-tarana-burke-women-sexual-assaultFord, Clementine, “Don't let Eurydice Dixon's death be a 'cautionary tale'” 15 June 2018 https://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/life-and-relationships/don-t-let-eurydice-dixon-s-death-be-a-cautionary-tale-20180615-p4zllb.htmlGilmore, Jane, “Another vigil for another woman who should be here” 18 June 2018 https://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/life-and-relationships/another-vigil-for-another-woman-who-should-be-here-20180617-p4zm1q.html Moran, Claire, “Not everyone can say #MeToo and we need to tackle the causes of sexual violence” 28 March 2018 https://theconversation.com/not-everyone-can-say-metoo-and-we-need-to-tackle-the-causes-of-sexual-violence-93075Ohlheiser, Abby, “The woman behind ‘Me Too’ knew the power of the phrase when she created it — 10 years ago” 19 October 2017, https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-intersect/wp/2017/10/19/the-woman-behind-me-too-knew-the-power-of-the-phrase-when-she-created-it-10-years-ago/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.5d2f4a129393 Zacharek, Stephanie, Dockterman, Eliana and Sweetland Edwards, Haley “The Silence Breakers” 2017 http://time.com/time-person-of-the-year-2017-silence-breakers/ “Tarana Burke Biography”, March 2 2018, https://www.biography.com/people/tarana-burke,“021 Tarana Burke” The Call with Erika Williams Simon 2 January 2018, https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/the-call-with-erica-williams-simon/id1213080056?mt=2If you want to support Deviant Women, follow us on: PatreonTwitter @DeviantWomenFacebook @deviantwomenpodcastInstagram @deviantwomenpodcast See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Quite honestly,we think this might be our best one yet. In our US segment we look at the crisis at the US/Mexico border and move beyond the spin and get to the facts of what is happening down there. In our Australian segment we talk about the rape and murder of Melbourne comedian Eurydice Dixon. What can men do to help the problem of violence against women. We also tear to shreds the "not all men" phrase that is predictably thrown around by some after these kinds of tragedies. We also have a tax time rant, let people eat in peace and some very stupid 'stupid political news'. As always, thank you for letting us into your busy lives. It is greatly appreciated. https://www.politicsovercoffee.com

Corrie Perkin is joined by Gerard Whateley this week (while Caro enjoys the last few days of her holiday). We begin with a discussion of the death of Eurydice Dixon and reflect on why this particular case has resonated so broadly and loudly across Australia. As talk of sweeping budget cuts at the ABC progressed to suggestions from some liberal party members that our national broadcaster be sold off - Gerard and Corrie continue the debate on what can be done to save the ABC. Gerard gives us his 'mid season analysis' of the 2018 AFL season. Can Richmond go all the way? And which team has proved the biggest disppointment so far? In keeping with a footy theme Gerard shares a few insights into the post football career of much loved former Bulldog Bob Murphy, who not only has a new book coming out soon but a new TV show too. In 'BSF'- Corrie can't wait for the podcast to finish so she can read the final pages of 'Home Fire' by Kamila Shamsie, Gerard has the perfect Netflix recommendation ('Brooklyn 99') if you need some light relief after binge watching an intense drama and Gerard serves up a family favourite and shares his recipe for 'Spaghetti Creole'. The live streaming debacle surrounding the World Cup is making Gerard more than a little grumpy this week and in '6 Quick Questions' we find out which household chore Gerard refuses to do, Corrie updates us on the Royals post the wedding AND Gerard finally goes on the record to tell us which is the greater racehorse - Winx or Black Caviar? Plus we've got a couple of Good Local Tips and it's Corrie's turn for 'Crush of the Week'.
