The Say It Loud Podcast features Austin's rock and roll band, Fair City Fire, along with local comedian, Matt Jones. They get weird with other local artists and folks in the music business. It's a very honest and often silly look at being an independent musician. Enjoy!
This week on The Say It Loud Podcast, we talk with Alex Duck. Alex is a local musician and venue partner at Scratchouse, a venue right here in Austin in the heart of the Red River Cultural District. We discuss the real situations that venues are facing throughout the pandemic. We give H-Town a little love, explain what a Hilltopper is and make the best Duck jokes we can. You can support Scratchouse by donating to their GoFundMe and help Save The Underground! Thank you for listening and supporting.
Gary Still joins Fair City Fire and Host Matt Jones this week to talk about Quarantined Beer Chugs and how epic chugs are helping the community. Check out our video on our Youtube Channel or just listen to the audio while you get through the week! Check out the QBC page for a nice break too!
We are back with fresh episodes of the Say It Loud Podcast hosted by Matt Jones. In this episode we are caught up with the band in the time of quarantine. Need some tips on how to pass the time? Listen to our latest episode. Other topics: checks(the money kind), how things have changed and super powers. Not to mention a solid new game called... "Is that a disease or the name of a metal band?". Stay tuned... more episodes are coming!
Aaron of A Sinclair came by to talk about his new album, 'Catpaws', before he takes the stage at The Too Damn Hot Affair on August 31 at Antone's. We talked about song sequencing, album covers, and how to keep up your excitement as an artist. We've had his album on repeat, so be sure to check out his grooves before seeing A Sinclair live this weekend! #surfinthewebsite #landbeforetimespoilers
The Too Damn Hot Affair on August 31 is rapidly approaching. Come join us at Antone's for an awesome night of groovin' and shakin' to benefit the SIMS Foundation. James Whelan, Marketing Associate for SIMS, came back to the pod to talk about the work SIMS is doing and how they've handled their recent funding challenges. Hint: funding challenges are easier when people support SIMS. Enjoy listening to how SIMS affects our community and show your support at the Too Damn Hot Affair! #takeachillpill #figureitoot #charityhubdotcom SIMS Foundation: https://simsfoundation.org/
Why would you start a new record and management company in Austin, right? If you're Chace and Storme Levi, it's because you have years of experience and are ready to change the industry from the ground up! Chace and Storme have mastered the arts of production and networking and shared their vision with us, and we believe! They're also super fun to talk to and they don't take themselves too seriously even though they're serious about changing the music game. Enjoy! #gothorthot #iftheyhadballs
Are you guys psyched for Skunkfest 2019? We are! That's why we had Skunk Manhattan (A Good Rogering, Runescarred) on the pod to tell us about all the work he's put in to making it a THING! Fair City Fire will be a part of the all-day festival on June 29 at Come and Take It Live! We talked to Skunk about how he balances performing and running the show, about the bands he chose, and why he believes in building this community. We finished with some vital discussions about getting high on Pepsi, karate vs. hip-hop, and eating dirt. #creativecooking #6yearolds
Pierson Saxon has been playing music since he was a kid in Dallas, and now he has plans on letting the world hear his solo work. He's into the old-school R&B/country vibe so we look forward to his new album, which he has been recording in NYC this year. He told us about his process and why he chose New York. He also plays with our friend Dr. Joe who recently released a single, "Tell Your Mother", so check that out. The music video is pretty excellent. Pierson is tough to stalk on the internet so find out all you can about him in this episode. #magicpills #smellthesadness #alljuggalosgotoheaven
Dan Rohde has made the most of his short time in Austin. He's played for drunks on 6th Street, put together the band Oreja, and had his gear stolen. Yeah, the last one wasn't so good, but fortunately Dan has a great community of people in his life who supported him in getting back on his feet. That's what happens when you're a good dude. We talked to Dan about his music journey and what it's like coming from small-town Illinois. We finished with a conversation about whether anyone has ever ate out a Panera bread. It was important. Enjoy! #esharp #peepeelawyer
Nathalie Phan, CEO/Founder of On Vinyl Media, has been a regular figure in the Austin music scene for several years. She works really hard at creating a community for musicians and music patrons. Nathalie talked to us about her licensing practice and the new On Vinyl Local Artist Merch store. Check it out on her website, or buy some merch from her when she hits up shows around town. She's a hell of a merch woman. We already bought all the things! This was our last show of 2018, so we also talked holiday memories and plans for 2019. Enjoy! #hairyicecreamcones #babydunking
Austin-based up-and-coming band Night Cap is working hard on getting that Sprite sponsorship. I think we nailed it in this episode. These guys are coming into their own and have developed songwriting methods that fulfill their creativity as individuals and as a band. Hear about how they got together and how their new EP 'Petals' came to be. A little bit of Ron Swanson wisdom never hurts. Enjoy! #cubbishgambino #oldbraunfels
Do you love Christmas? Ella Reid sure does. So much so that she named her new EP, 'I Love Christmas'. She has influences from rock, pop, and country and it shows in her unique sound. Ella and her husband Shane have been in a positive frame of mind ever since they moved to Austin a couple years ago. As she now philosophizes, "Suck it up, buttercup"! Life is good for Ella as a musician and a designer. Be sure to check out her one-of-a-kind Gas Station Glam jeans. Ella's a hustler, so you better keep up and enjoy the show! #getarealtree #lightstalking
Wouldn't it be incredible if your teenage passion became your adult profession? That's what happened for concert photographers Katrina Barber and David Brendan Hall. They've developed their talents and creativity to become 2 of the best live music photographers in Austin and we were super lucky to learn about their craft. What's the difference between a picture and a photograph? Why does everyone love Polaroids? Is photography a lonely art? You'll find out as we discuss photography and its relationship to music. Enjoy!
Has there ever been a greater trauma in life than when Felicity cut her hair on Ray Prim's favorite 90s TV show? DOUBTFUL #allcaps Ray was super open about sharing his thoughts and opinions on this episode. If you know him already, that won't surprise you. We talked about his otherworldly, soulful voice and how he's implemented it as a musician-turned-bandleader. Ray's been a prolific songwriter, and we can partially thank Depeche Mode for that. As Ray told us, seeing them live as a kid shifted his focus from football to music. Thanks, Depeche Mode! A great musician blended with a funny, good dude makes for a fantastic guest. We appreciate you, Ray! #bandcamp #mexicanchocolate
Open-mic veterans Josh Klaus of Fierce Kelly and Raul Adrian Ochoa of Modern Day Midas joined the pod to go over the X's and O's of being a part of the open-mic community. Why do open-mics? What works? How do you host? Are there any rules? We came up with a few. Basically, don't be a dick. The importance of community and culture in the open-mic scene is what keeps these fellas at it. But don't let your favorite bar host an open-mic night. It'll be closed in no time. Haha: (sort of) jokes! #garyindiana #coolcucumbers
If we had an SNL-type bathrobe for frequent guests, the gentlemen from Finite Fidelity would be donning them a la Tom Hanks and Steve Martin. The fellas returned to talk about their joint gig with Fair City Fire and Kapybara on November 3rd at Saxon Pub. They also have a brand new album in production, and we have the title! Finite even gave us the title to a couple singles as well. We're psyched for some new desert prog. You'll also learn a thing or 2 about leggings, surviving a hot shower, and fish hooks. Give it a listen! #littlebitofFlair #hardexclusive
We like to have fun, honest talks about music and the business of music. Fortunately, our guest, Emily Miller, knows her stuff. Emily works in Communications & Outreach for the Austin Music Foundation (AMF). And she walks the walk. When Emily isn't working, she can be found at shows all around Austin. It's her passion and it shows in her hustle. Emily willed her way into the music business and now helps musicians with their business education needs. She does this while having a fantastic disdain for corporate culture. We talked about AMF programs as well as Fair City Fire's own experiences with AMF advisors. FYI, Fair City Fire has been an AMF Artist of the Month and is thankful for all AMF does for our music community. Enjoy the episode! #rowyourboat #highclassnut
We survived 2 weekends at ACL Festival! And we couldn't be happier about it! Thanks to HAAM for inviting us to talk about their important efforts in helping Austin musicians be healthy contributors to our city's cultural identity. Austin music veterans AJ Vallejo and Kendall Beard brought Love & Chaos to the ACL Cares Stage, where we talked about how they collaborate together and what we can expect from them in the near future. AJ also shared how HAAM helped him during his recovery from a heart attack a decade ago, and how they continue to help him to this day. We look forward to Kendall's new album (produced by AJ), coming out on October 19th. It's called 'Here Comes Trouble'. And be sure to visit HAAM starting November 1 for open enrollment if you are a local musician. Don't be a "young invincible". Take care of yourself. Enjoy an episode that was as live as it gets, right in the middle of Zilker Park during ACL craziness! And listen to the end for a couple live, acoustic songs from Love & Chaos. #loveandfaircitymusicchaos #myhaam
What a weekend! We had the honor of attending the ACL Festival this year with our podcast, and the double honor of interviewing our friend Sydney Wright. The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) invited us to their program, 'How HAAM Saves Lives' and we took that opportunity to talk to Sydney about her recovery from a hit and run accident earlier this year. Sydney is all heart and her talents always shine through. We're so happy to see her getting back to what she loves to do. In fact, she will be releasing her album 'Seiche' on November 9 at Cheer Up Charlies. Be there! We started off the episode with a recap of our ACL experience before moving on to the Sydney interview (18:47). Keep listening til the end to hear Sydney's new single, 'Time of Night'. And if you're a local musician, be sure to check in with HAAM when open enrollment begins on November 1. #bionicleg #myhaam
Nichole Wagner knows that making a great Americana album takes 2 things: magic and tacos. Her newest album, 'And the Sky Caught Fire', is as honest as it is re-playable. With clever songwriting and raw emotion, Nichole is emerging as one of our favorite, new Austin artists. We talked to her about her love of Stevie Nicks, baseball, and baking. She'll even learn ya a thing or 2 about environmental laundry practices. Check out Nichole's album to catch yourself some feels. She's an A+ guest! #muffinsituation #soapnuts
Music Podcasters unite! Roberto R Hernandez (aka Robonzo) joined the show to dish on being a drummer who podcasts about the music biz. His show 'The Unstarving Musician's Podcast' provides knowledge to musicians who are looking to turn their passion into a paying job. Do the work! Robonzo told us about the music scene in Panama, where he currently lives. There's even a chance he has the biggest podcast in Central America. Prove us wrong! #instagrampa #techweenie #somanygoals

Do you know what $50,000 in cash looks like? Rikki Hardy, HAAM Director of Marketing and Events, sure does (hint: it's gross). And she's hoping to see a lot more on HAAM Day, September 11 in Austin. Rikki, along with Katie Crowley, joined the show to tell us how the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians helps local musicians with their healthcare. They are in the final stages of preparing HAAM Day, their biggest donation day of the year. If you're in Austin, check out some of the hundreds of bands that will be performing across the city on September 11 to support HAAM. Rikki told us about all the plans for that day, and she made the case for all local musicians to visit HAAM for their healthcare needs. It's an incredible resource for our city and our music culture. Get covered! Support music! #theyounginvincible #annualreports
Scott Collins is the personification of the Austin music scene. That's because he is a person and he's always playing music in Austin. See? His new EP "Roadmaps" just released August 3 so check it out at the link below or buy an album when you see him live. Scott works super hard for what he loves. He spent much of his life growing up in Austin, so he's very familiar with the business. We talked about his sobriety and how he managed to figure out his solo project. Plus he helped us play a new game. We're gonna learn ya somethin' today! #friendoftheshow #keepyourtrash
You're in luck, friends! Along with Skunk Manhattan, of A Good Rogering, we settled every metal discussion ever. Or we may have talked about sexy internet actors. Who knows!? It was good to hear Skunk's takes on metal and songwriting. He is influenced by many different genres, which helps him write organically. Check out A Good Rogering's newest EP 'This is Death Metal' on Spotify. You'll learn what 'A Good Rogering' means and what it's like to play heavy music in front of unsuspecting folks. Get smart and enjoy!
VICODA visited Austin from Denver to play one gig at Mohawk. They were so good we had to invite them on the podcast. Incorporating unique blends of covers and originals, VICODA energized the Mohawk crowd and had a great first Austin show. We found out how they came together and what it's like in the Denver music scene. Lead singer Shivani was unable to be on the show but we called her so she could tell us about her lyrics and songwriting with the guys. VICODA learned a lot in their first road gig, including what they're like when they get Austin drunk. We were lucky to have them on the show before their departure. Follow them! They rock! #jamminwithdudes #glasswindows
Sometimes we like to switch things up on the show. Sure, we love to have awesome musicians in the studio, but we also like to have awesomeness from other industries. John and Erin Stecker represent 4th Tap Brewing on this episode. They are an Austin brewing coop and have the best tasting room in town. They regularly host musicians at the tap room, in addition to games, movies, and rasslin'. We discovered that there are plenty of parallels between the beer and music industries. John and Erin are married and have a little Stecker on the way, which brought up the important question: what instrument will she play in John's band? That's right. John has musical history in Austin and we are desperately trying to get his band Naked Empire to join Fair City Fire at a show soon. Enjoy the show. #nakedempirereunion
Walker Lukens is having himself a nice musical journey, one that many musicians would envy. But he's still hungry to continue creating and performing. We enjoyed talking about his prolific writing process and how that is balanced by a sweet mom who really has no idea what Walker is doing. He has a lot of things he wants to say and do, and he's doing them. Go figure! Check him out on tour this summer. He'll be at Antone's in Austin on August 18. #summeroflove

Fair City Fire's Brian is a mentor in the program! Laura told us about the Texas foster system and how KING is working to help stabilize the lives of some of our city's most vulnerable kids. We also found out about her interest in playing music herself. She'll be covering T Swift songs in no time.
