A weekly look at what's happening in the world of MMA with broadcaster Ken McGuire and professional fighter, Myles Price, Saturdays on KCLR.
On this week's All Things MMA, coach Myles Price and Ken McGuire are catching up on European IBJJF Championships in Rome, the pressures elite level fighters can be under in the strive for balance in fighting and life, the circus that was Jake Paul v Anderson Silva and there's a quick look at the upcoming UFC 281 card with some rapid-fire predictions.
Predictions went out the window for UFC 280 so we're wondering is Sean O'Malley ready to be number one contender, does Aljamain Sterling get enough credit for his fight planning and ultimately will chaos reign supreme when it comes to match-making at the top level?
One of the biggest MMA cards of the year is upon us, UFC 280, with both the vacant lightweight title on the line with (technical) former champion Charles Oliveira set to offer Islam Makhachev his biggest career fight to date while defending bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling puts his title on the line against former champ TJ Dillashaw. On this week's All Things MMA with Ken McGuire and pro fighter Myles Price we'll have a look at the top three fights on the main card and what comes next with reports that featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski will be next in line for the new lightweight champion while the winner of Sean O'Malley and Petr Yan looks set to face whoever leaves Abu Dhabi with the bantamweight strap. There's also talk of the next or final steps for Tony Ferguson while we've been reviewing footage of power slapping in the wake of news that a 'power slap league' could be heading to the UFC Apex.
This week we're finding out how belt grading works in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and how it differs for children, teens and adults and how external factors could impact your progress.

Do I need to be fit to do all this? Those are some of the questions posed to Myles Price this week as we take a look at what it takes between mind and body to embark on a martial arts journey.
Our autumn run of All Things MMA continues this week and there's plenty to chat about from the world of mixed martial arts. Now that the dust has settled on his 2022 stint with the PFL (Professional Fighters League), Myles Price shares his thoughts on his debut year in the promotion and the differences in approach to fighting Anthony Pettis, Jeremy Stephens and Marcin Held all inside four months, from finding his flow to recognising the signs of fighter burnout. There's also a quick look at this year's ADCC event which turned up a high result for one Irish BJJ athlete, the retirement of José Aldo and what might come next for Eddie Alvarez following his departure from ONE Championship. #UFC #PFL #MMA
It's been another whirlwind weekend in the world of mixed martial arts, particularly for the UFC.After the drama of Friday's cancelled press conference and a botched weigh-in for Khamzat Chimaev, the upper end of the card was entirely rearranged, scuppering last week's conversations and predictions. But that's the fight game, as they say.>We wound up with a complete technical mismatch in the co-main event as Khamzat Chimaev took on Kevin Holland in a catch-weight bout despite a near 10lbs difference on weigh-in day, while the main event landed Nate Diaz a $50,000 bonus for his showing against Tony Ferguson, both fighters originally slated to face different opponents.Listen above to the breakdown of the fall out, we'll get Myles' thoughts on what should happen regarding weight classes sooner rather than later and look ahead to the meeting of Peter Queally and Benson Henderson at Bellator 285 on Friday week.

At Bellator 270, it wasn't to be for either James Gallagher or Peter Queally while it was business as usual in the upper echelons of the UFC where Kamaru Usman and Rose Namajunas retained their world titles. We were, however, treated to a fight-of-the-year contender with Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler's clash at 155.
When the new year comes around, Myles Price is looking at almost three of them out of the cage.Having finished out his contract with Bellator and seeing one fight emerge under the deal (v Peter Queally at Bellator 217), Myles has inked a deal to fight under the PFL banner stateside in 2022.We'll discuss how that came about and take a look ahead to the big fights as part of Bellator 270 - James Gallagher v Patchy Mix and Petear Queally v Patricky Pitbull.

This week on All Things MMA, we're turning our attention towards the regulation of the sport in Ireland. To help with that, we're joined by Tim Murphy, head coach of Point Blank Submissions in Galway, but also the chairperson of the Irish Mixed Martial Arts Association (IMMAA).We've touched on this subject previously with Andy Ryan but as time ticks along, it's clear that getting a national governing body up and running and officially recognised in order to regulate the sport of MMA in Ireland, all under Sport Ireland, is proving quite difficult.Following the passing of Joao Carvalho in 2016 in the wake of an MMA show in Ireland, the Coroner's Count recommended the introduction of standardised safety procedures and protocols to MMA events in the country, as well as the establishment of a national governing body.Four years on from the formation of IMMA, that recognition is still lacking so speak with Tim about why this is the case, what changes have been made surrounding the safety aspects of the sport, club structures and Ireland's participation at international amateur level and what the future looks like with recognition secured. We begin with what IMMAA is, why they exist and continue by looking at the roadblocks, conflicts with other sports and exploring what support at ground level is like.Have a listen above, catch ATMMA on Scoreline every Saturday or subscribe for previous and new episodes on your favourite podcast platform.
We're back on the mixed martial arts trail for this week's All Things MMA.While last week broke rank to discuss matters wellness and self-care, this week we're taking a look at The possible return of TJ Dillashaw to the UFC ranks What happens next for Derrick Lewis and Curtis Blaydes following UFC Vegas 19 Who's coming out on top at UFC 259 next week Following a two-year USADA suspension for EPO use, former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is gunning for a return and hopeful of a title shot too. Next weekend sees the title on the line as Petr Yan meets top contender Aljamain Sterling on a packed UFC 259 card. Should Dillashaw be back in the mix or is it a case of getting in line, regardless of what happens at 259?Following his emphatic second-round knockout of Curtis Blaydes, what comes next for Derrick Lewis in the heavyweight ranks and where does a loss leave #2 contender Blaydes when you've got Stipe, Ngannou, Volkov and now Jon Jones hanging around. Will we see Lewis v Jones?Lastly, with other plans for next week's podcast, we're getting Myles thoughts on UFC 259 which sees the aforementioned Yan v Sterling encounter at 135, Amanda Nunes defend her featherweight title and current middleweight king Israel Adesanya stepping up to take on light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz for the 205 title.

As the weeks roll by, the MMA world keeps on turning and our MMA Podcast, All Things MMA, is back for another look at the news of the week and a very light preview of UFC Vegas 18.Having visited the topic of martial arts for mental health before Christmas, an article on Bloody Elbow earlier this week on the mental strain at high-performance levels triggered some good WhatsApp conversation. The article in question looked at the Korean Zombie and his admission of hitting rock bottom in the wake of his October 2020 defeat to Brian Ortega. With a featherweight title shot on the line, it's Ortega who will face Alexander Volkanovski later this spring for a crack at the 145 gold. This week, Myles Price joins Ken McGuire to share some of his own experiences in the mental preparation involved in stepping into the cage to fight, plus the flipside - if you're so focused on the win, what happens when the result doesn't go your way? While we will preview the UFC Vegas 18 card on Thursday we also take a look at the last title hopes of Alistair Overeem (47-18) as he faces Alexander Volkov (32-8) on Saturday night/Sunday morning in Las Vegas. You can subscribe to All Things MMA on all good platforms.
