Cornerman Tony Dunlop joins us to discuss Aaron McKenna's IBF world middleweight title victory at the 3Arena. We talk about the years of hard work put in by dad and coach Fergal and his sons Aaron and Stevie, and why Belfast Kronk veteran Dunlop, who assists Fergal in the corner, believes this is only the beginning for Team McKenna.Tony also worked with Andy Lee, another Irish world middleweight champion, meaning he has cornered two of the four in Irish boxing history. He was there for some of Lee's finest nights, including THAT knockout victory over Carl Daniels at Madison Square Garden.Tony reflects on his time at Detroit's Kronk Gym, the lessons he learnt from Emanuel Steward, and James Tennyson's explosive career, which brought Irish, Commonwealth, British and European titles. He also discusses his own fighting days, which included Elite success and three professional bouts before he hung up the gloves at 21 and moved into coaching.Tony is a proper boxing man, and it was a treat to hear some of his stories. Not for the first time, the 3Arena/O2/Point Depot has proven to be a house of pain for Irish boxing. Following in the footsteps of Bernard Dunne and Katie Taylor, Pierce O'Leary lost his unbeaten record in an enthralling encounter with Mark Chamberlain - a bout that is certain to make plenty of Fight-of-the-Year lists. Down twice early on and battling a bloodied, broken nose, Big Bang got right back into the contest by blasting Chamberlain to the canvas in a power-packed seventh round. However, just when the comeback looked on, he found himself on the receiving end of a vicious combination as his composed opponent managed to take him out. It capped off a brutal night that also saw the gallant Lee Reeves rushed to the hospital by ambulance after being knocked out by Gary Cully in one of the evening's Irish derbies.I'm joined by Joe O'Neill to intro the show, as we discuss the conflicting feelings a night like this brings, before hearing from pundits Carl Frampton, Darren Barker, and Barry Jones on the spectacle these boxers delivered for the Dublin crowd. We also hear from world champ Anto Cacace, who was in town to catch the action. Gary Cully talks to us from his dressing room immediately after his win over Reeves, sending his thoughts to his stricken opponent after possibly rescuing his own career with that late shot. We also feature reaction from Sean McComb and Adam Olaniyan, both winners on the card, as well as Craig O'Brien and Senan Kelly, who both suffered knockout defeats on the night. Dave Coldwell, trainer of Kelly's conqueror Steven Cairns, tells us why his man can go right to the top, while Mayo middleweight Eoghan Lavin helps us sum up a night that will be remembered for reasons both good and bad. All of us at The Rocky Road send our love and support to Lee Reeves, his family, and his friends during this tough time. Get well soon, Lee. Hosted on Acast. Today, we're joined by a man with one of the most decorated records in modern Irish boxing: three European gold medals, two World Championship silver medals, an Olympic appearance and a career as a professional contender.Since turning professional, his path hasn't always been straightforward. From overcoming a freak injury on his debut in New York to stringing together a run of victories, his most recent opponent – inactivity – has proved one of the toughest of all.But that all ends at the 3Arena on 8 August, when he takes on dangerous knockout artist Artjom Kasparian. With 14 wins and 12 KOs, including four last year, the Armenian-born Dutchman, who is based in Manchester, isn't coming to play. But neither is Joe Ward. The Westmeath southpaw explains how he has stayed ready in the gym despite not fighting since 2024, why beating up journeymen wouldn't have done him much good anyway and why he is primed to deliver a statement performance on his Zuffa Boxing debut. But it isn't all about the performance – it's also about bringing out the dog inside him and winning by any means necessary.Joe also discusses the recent struggles of his former amateur team and why its boxers need to show that same fighting spirit to bring home medals. He reflects on his time alongside Katie Taylor and explains why he can't wait for her Croke Park swansong. He also talks about the huge loss to Irish boxing following Zaur Antia's departure for the USA and his joy at seeing his two sons follow in his footsteps by becoming Irish champions in their own right. The card also features Aaron McKenna fighting for a world title and Callum Walsh making his Irish return. But if anyone thinks boxing is solely a young man's game, the veteran is adamant that class is permanent – and he intends to prove it on the night. Hosted on Acast. Philip tells us about the boy wonder who first walked through the doors, motivating inner-city kids and the push and pull that has seen some of Ireland's finest fighters leave the amateur set-up before completing their Olympic cycles – O'Leary included. He also explains why he was probably better off in the long run not qualifying for Rio 2016.Eleven years ago, Sean told Kevin he was fighting to secure an early retirement. Dublin actor, comedian and former international boxer Terry O'Neill joins us to talk about the upcoming show at the National Stadium, ‘In The Ring With Dan Donnelly & Dublin's Boxing Legends', taking place on May 9. Terry, who will perform a portion of his hit one-man show Rope-A-Dope on the night, will be joined by heavyweights of Irish culture including Brian Kerr, Damien Dempsey and Elite champion Kellie McLoughlin.Though he had just three organized bouts, Dan Donnelly's name remains legendary more than 200 years after his death. Terry explains how Donnelly's 19th-century clashes with Englishmen Tom Hall and George Cooper on the Curragh were the "Louis-Schmeling" of their day - symbols of the oppressed rising against the oppressor. We dive into the life of this hard-drinking man of the people and the macabre saga of his stolen arm, which became a literal ‘Irish Shroud of Turin'.We also trace the lineage of Dublin boxing royalty, from Frankie Kerr to Kenneth Egan, and Steve Collins to Kellie Harrington. Plus, we run the rule over today's stars: from Pierce O'Leary, fresh off his clinical IBO world title win at the 3Arena, to the resurgent Jono Carroll, and the relentless Paul Ryan and Emmet Brennan. With Donnelly still remembered two centuries on, we ask: which of today's fighters will be talked about in 2226? 5 Live Boxing with Costello & Bunce

What's next for Anthony Cacace after becoming a two-time world champion? The Belfast fighter was simply too good for Jazza Dickens at the 3Arena in Dublin. Barry Jones joins Buncey to dissect the fight and debate whether a unification showdown with Emanuel Navarrete could be next. They also preview George Liddard vs Tyler Denny for the British and Commonwealth middleweight titles in London, and a middleweight world title fight in Orlando.

‘Ohh, Anto Cacace' came the chant at the end of a blistering night in Dublin that saw the Belfast man crowned a two-time world champion. The Apache beat Jazza Dickens by unanimous decision to claim the Liverpudlian's WBA super-featherweight strap. That came after the Big Bang – with Pierce O'Leary's homecoming, at last, proving he hadn't bitten off more than he could chew, not by a long shot. He told his team to get him on a show at the 3Arena and he'd do the rest. He certainly did, filling the place before filling in Maxi Hughes to take the IBO belt at 140lb. Another local fella celebrating was Jono Carroll, who edged Belfast's Colm Murphy for the IBO strap at super-featherweight and he'll surely be eyeing a clash with Cacace. But will it come to fruition? How far can Pierce climb? What got Dublin boxing back on top, and who found Adam Olaniyan's debut opponent? Discussing it all on The Rocky Road, we're joined by Gavan Casey of the42.ie to chat all things #IrishBoxing. With three reigning world champions now – harking back to the 90s – do the wider public realise how good we have it? They might soon. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

If you're planning a trip to Ireland in 2026 these tips will make planning smoother, help you avoid crowds, and maybe even save you a bit of money. Probably the most important tips are when NOT to be in Dublin, but there are some updates to European entry & exit systems that you need to know, as well as really important advice for 2027. Jody Halsted – Ireland Family Vacations and the Traveling in Ireland podcast In case you're wondering why you would want to get your Ireland travel advice from me… My name is Jody Halsted, and I am an Ireland travel advisor. I have been traveling to and through Ireland for over 23 years (!!), publish Ireland Family Vacations, host the Traveling in Ireland podcast, assist hundreds of travelers with their Ireland vacations each year and, occasionally, I also host small group tours through Ireland (I have 2 this spring so you can look forward to some live from Ireland episodes in April and May). That's a lot! But Ireland travel is my passion; and my goal -100% – is to help you have an amazing Ireland vacation. And I have quite a few ways to do that. My website, Ireland Family Vacations, is a complete resource for Ireland vacation planning – filled with information on what to do & see as well as handy tips for planning your trip and free itineraries to get your plans in motion quickly. (Don't let the name fool you! I travel through Ireland solo, with my husband, with my family, and hosting small group tours. Whatever your group size or dynamic I am able to assist!) My itinerary personalization, vacation coaching, and custom itinerary creation services help you maximize your Ireland experience, and my small group guided tours are designed to not only deliver the ‘authentic' Ireland of your dreams but also introduce you to the people and hidden places that make the country so very magical. If you love the process of planning your trip the Ireland Travel Compass walks you step-by-step through my expert process, from when to visit and how long the perfect vacation lasts, to what to see, where to stay, and even what to eat. It's basically my entire Ireland vacation planning brain laid out. On a more personal note, I have 2 daughters, now in college, who have been traveling through Ireland with me since before they could toddle and one very supportive husband (who loves it when I plan other people's vacations because it means I'm not planning my own). At Malahide Castle (It's probably time to get new family photos done)By Aoife for Flytographer; Dublin, Ireland. All rights reserved. Now that you know all about me, let's jump into what you need to know as you consider planning an Ireland vacation in 2026! This article is based on Traveling in Ireland podcast episode 320. Use the player below to listen or scroll to continue reading the article and get resource links. 2026 Ireland Travel Tips You Need Ireland Travel Rules & Regulations There are currently no restrictions in place for North Americans traveling to Ireland.Ireland travel restrictions and other requirement are found here. In Case of Cancellation Read and understand cancellation policies on everything from flights and transportation to tours and accommodations before booking. If booking with a credit card be aware of the cancellation coverage you may have with that card. I highly recommend purchasing travel insurance if you book tickets our tours that don't allow 100% refund if cancelled. And always if you are booking a tour package (and not necessarily the one the company offers). 2026 Looks like Another Busy Year from Travel to Ireland from North America Irish tourism numbers showed that tourism from Europe into Ireland was down, but numbers from North America remained steady. From my perspective things are already looking busy, especially in the months of May, late August, and September. (The shoulder season is the new high season.) More Direct Flights to Ireland in 2026 Aer Lingus, Ireland's flagship airline is adding 2 new US routes in 2026, bringing the total to 18 routes from Dublin! This is important because Aer Lingus is considered a ‘budget' carrier. And when budget carriers enter a market, US based airlines will drop rates to compete.
