Viens no iemesliem, kāpēc Jāņa Žīmanta koka darbu izstāde skatāma tieši Latvijas Etnogrāfiskajā Brīvdabas muzejā, meklējama tajā, ka Brīvdabas muzeja kolekcijā iepirkti 20 koktēlnieka darbi. Rucavā atrodas Latvijas Etnogrāfiskā brīvdabas muzeja filiāle, zvejnieku sēta “Vītolnieki”. Muzeja speciālisti interesējas par seniem darba rīkiem, kurus savukārt kolekcionē Jānis Žīmants. Un šādā radošā veidā abu pušu interese satikusies. Vēroju kā Jānis Žīmants sarunājas ar izstādes apmeklētājiem. Varbūt tā izpaužas skolotāja rūdījums, kad viņš liek izstādes skatītājiem minēt, stāstīt pašiem. Un tad sarunai piemet pa pagalītei, atklājot kāda simbola izcelsmi, piemetot klāt pa stāstam. Bet ko iesāks tie, kas atnāks uz izstādi, kad meistara paša klāt nebūs. Kā lai viņi zina, ko lai viņi domā? Intervijās ar Jāni Žīmantu parasti tiek pieminēts, ka viņš nav nekāds runātājs. Man gan šķiet, ka sarunbiedrs ļoti cenšas panākties pretim. Viņam jau iepriekš sagatavoti pāris asprātīgi pastāsti iz dzīves sarunas uzturēšanai. Viņš ieklausās, ko saka izstādes apmeklētāji. Tā sajūta drīzāk ir, ka koktēlnieks domā drusku citādā veidā. Un to viņš neslēpj, atklāj arī sarunā. Viņš domā ar rokām, darinot, mīļojot koku, iedziļinoties tā formā, piemeklējot materiālu. Un tur vārdiem nav vietas.
