In today's episode, I break down a system I use to reset negative energy and turn it into aligned, purposeful action. I call it “Cancel, Clear, Connect,” and it's a tool to shift the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious habits that quietly drain performance and create emotional expenses we don't realize we're paying. From internal spirals to inherited trauma, I explain how negativity can linger in thought loops and behaviors, and how to interrupt them before they compound. This method isn't about chasing positivity. It's about wiring your mindset to respond with clarity and confidence, especially when the pressure is on and the stakes are high.

This week on The International Risk Podcast, Dominic Bowen speaks with Dr. Kai-Uwe Schrogl, one of the world's leading experts on international space policy and the former Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space Legal Subcommittee. In this critical episode, they explore the growing risks in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), where satellites are increasingly exposed to hostile acts such as signal jamming, cyber intrusion, and close-proximity maneuvers. As these grey-zone operations expand, a fundamental legal question remains unanswered: does interference with a satellite amount to an act of war?Dr. Schrogl draws on decades of experience advising the European Space Agency, national governments, and international legal bodies to unpack why space law has failed to keep pace with the technological and strategic realities of orbit. The discussion covers alarming recent case studies—from Russia's jamming of Starlink signals over Ukraine, to China's Shijian-21 maneuvering near foreign satellites, and the Viasat cyberattack that disrupted infrastructure across Europe.Together, they examine how states are exploiting legal ambiguity for strategic gain, why attribution remains elusive, and how a lack of enforceable norms may lead to escalation without warning. Dr. Schrogl also outlines urgent priorities for the international community—from tightening governance and clarifying use-of-force thresholds, to building greater transparency in satellite operations. With insights into the legal, political, and security risks unfolding above Earth, this episode is essential listening for defence analysts, policymakers, legal scholars, and anyone shaping the future of strategic stability in space.Dr. Kai-Uwe Schrogl is Special Advisor for Political Affairs at the European Space Agency and one of the foremost authorities on space law and governance. He has authored more than 150 publications on space policy, chaired UN legal bodies, and continues to advise institutions across Europe on the future of space security. The International Risk Podcast is a must-listen for senior executives, board members, and risk advisors. This weekly podcast dives deep into international relations, emerging risks, and strategic opportunities. Hosted by Dominic Bowen, Head of Strategic Advisory at one of Europe's top risk consulting firms, the podcast brings together global experts to share insights and actionable strategies.Dominic's 20+ years of experience managing complex operations in high-risk environments, combined with his role as a public speaker and university lecturer, make him uniquely positioned to guide these conversations. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. This landmark case illuminates the critical distinction between denying leave and subtly discouraging employees from exercising their rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act.We trace the journey of Denise Kemp, a decade-long employee with a history of promotions and positive performance, whose relationship with her employer deteriorated after seeking flexibility to care for her disabled daughter. The tension between remote work policies and leave rights creates a fascinating legal puzzle that ultimately hinged on technicalities rather than merits. The Second Circuit's ruling provides crucial clarity on what constitutes FMLA interference, establishing that employers can violate the law without ever formally denying leave requests. Yet despite this employee-friendly interpretation, procedural rules—particularly the unforgiving statute of limitations—proved decisive. We explore how timing can make or break employment claims regardless of their underlying validity.Beyond the technical legal analysis, we extract practical lessons for both sides of the employment relationship. For workers, understanding deadlines and documenting problematic interactions becomes paramount. For companies, the case serves as a warning that compliance means more than simply processing paperwork—it requires creating an environment where employees feel genuinely free to exercise their rights without subtle punishment.Have you encountered challenges balancing family care responsibilities with workplace expectations? The evolving legal landscape around remote work accommodations continues to shape both employee rights and employer obligations. Guest: Toronto Star reporter Allan Woods  Donald Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney just had their first call since Carney took office, and by all accounts, it was productive. But also, the fact that this call is making headlines is just another sign of how much Trump and the U.S. will loom over Canada's upcoming election. From Trump's political influence and the spread of disinformation to the idea (his own)  that his presidency actually helped keep the Liberals in power; this election is shaping up to be as much about the U.S. as it is about Canada. Canada has always had to live in America's shadow—but this time, the biggest foreign threat to our democracy isn't Russia or China—it might be our closest ally. Interference in democratic elections. The sponsorship of extremist politics to destabilise Europe. In recent years, Vladimir Putin has waged a relentless campaign to expand his influence beyond Russia's borders and to undermine Western democracy. But how did he come to have such control over Russia – and what is it that he really wants? In March 2025 Catherine Belton, acclaimed journalist and author of the bestselling book Putin's People: How the KGB Took Back Russia and Then Took on the West joined us live from Kyiv for this installment of our series, The Age of the Strongman. Drawing on years of investigative reporting, Belton revealed how Putin's rise was orchestrated by a network of former KGB officers and oligarchs who used economic power, fear and corruption to install him in the Kremlin. She explored how this model of governance and ‘strongman leadership' has been exported globally and what the consequences continue to be for us all.  The event was chaired by Gideon Rachman, Chief Foreign Affairs Commentator for the Financial Times. ----- If you'd like to become a Member and get access to all our full ad free conversations, plus all of our Members-only content, just visit intelligencesquared.com/membership to find out more. Missing Evidence & Jury Interference FBI's Jennifer Coffindaffer on the Karen Read Case Sounds like a routine legal mess, right? The Karen Read case has already been a rollercoaster, but now, with claims of evidence tampering and a federal probe quietly closing, things are getting downright chaotic. Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer breaks it all down—why does the defense keep hammering at the surveillance footage issue? Is the missing metadata really that complicated to retrieve, or is it just inconvenient? And then there's the Fanning situation—jury tampering accusations, a questionable history, and a connection to another case that makes you wonder just how deep the rabbit hole goes. With the trial only weeks away, is the prosecution sitting on a ticking time bomb?
