Interference is for real. In football it can change the outcome of the game. From winning to losing with one whistle from the referee. It is one of the most detrimental penalties in football. The same is true in life as well. The interference we allow, can quite literally change the direction and outcome of our lives. When interference happens in football they keep playing. That's the good news. For the way to overcome interference and win in life is the same...we keep P.L.A.Y.ing and who doesn't want to do that? Listen to see what we're talking about. It was an unusually honest assessment from a head coach, and Dan and Andrew dig into exactly what Vrabel meant and whether it should concern Patriots fans heading into the season. Then they put five specific position groups under the microscope, rating their depth concerns on a scale of 1 to 10. Which spots are genuine liabilities? Which ones look shakier than the box score suggests? The guys don't pull punches. Then it's into the film room for a rewatch of New England's preseason win over the Eagles. EVERYTHING IS THE SAME ANYMORE, AND I COULDN'T BE MORE BORED OF IT! Emails all sound the same. Marketing all sounds and looks the same. Captions on social media, the scripts people are using in reels, even some long texts I have received - they all have the same flavor. They sound the same, they have the same language patterns, and they are removing the human supposedly behind them. In this episode, I am going to talk about this shift happening behind the scenes that is majorly bleeding through into every aspect of our daily lives and reshaping our human experience. And as we allow this "expression" to express for us, what are we losing?  More importantly, why did we choose to come here on Earth at all, and what does our self expression have to do with that? If we are looking to a machine to express for us and direct us in every minute area of our lives, what are we losing? I think this matters very much, and I don't think people are thinking about it or consciously noticing it is happening. Here's where we are going in this episode: - Sameness is spreading fast - What authenticity actually means from the soul level  - Why your unique creative signature is spiritual power - How to reconnect with your eternal, organic self (and why you MUST!) - What this all means in terms of who will be trusted and remembered in the years ahead Mindful Pregnancy Collection: https://www.karagoodwin.com/pregnancy-collection  Subscribe so you don't miss any of the powerful episodes of Soul Elevation: https://www.youtube.com/@soulelevationpodcast?sub_confirmation=1  Listen or Apple or Spotify: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/soul-elevation-guiding-your-ascension-to-new-heights/id1442136034  Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Rld3E6a4hWwySD73aBkbe?si=89d00821258844b3

Alex Barth of 98.5 The Sports Hub joins Andrew to break down the film from the Patriots' preseason opener. The biggest story on offense was a young offensive tackle who quietly had one of the better individual performances of the night — Alex and Andrew go frame by frame on what made him stand out and what it means for the depth chart battle heading into the regular season. The coaching staff also dropped some hints at schematic changes that flew under the radar on first watch, and the guys unpack what those wrinkles could look like when the games actually count. On the defensive side, the depth chart is still unsettled — but after what they saw in this game, that should start to change quickly. Most coaches have someone they pour into. Almost none of them have someone who pours back.In part two with Zach Brandon, JP and Zach go deeper into what it actually takes to develop coaches — not players, coaches — and why that investment may be the most overlooked lever in any program. Zach shares the story that reoriented his entire career: a coach who could not remember his own family moments and discovered he was missing from most of the photos on the wall. The conversation builds into his core coaching framework — Impact = Individual Capabilities x Environment, minus Interference — and why the internal interference is almost always the harder, more important work. This one is for any coach who suspects they might be their own biggest obstacle, or who has never stopped long enough to ask: who is developing me?Chapters(00:00) Intro(05:06) Best Coach Dev at the Diamondbacks(07:00) Expectations vs. Shared Agreements(08:36) Daily Leadership Shares(10:16) Conversations, Not Lectures(11:16) Why Coaching Coaches?(12:22) The Catalyst Story(14:37) The Hardest Conversation(15:36) Who Pours Into the Coach?(18:18) Coach Wellbeing and Player Culture(22:14) The Coaching Impact Equation(26:23) Be the Assistant GM Now(29:19) Internal vs. External Interference(31:00) Can't Read the Label from Inside Jar(33:51) Connecting with Zach BrandonTOC 3-2-13 Quotes | 2 Questions | 1 ResourceYour fast-track to this episode's most actionable ideas."Expectations are oftentimes funneled one directionally. https://teachhoops.com/ What is really getting in the way of performance? In this episode, Coach Collins takes a deep dive into one of the most overlooked leadership ideas in coaching: sometimes the biggest gap is not between a player's talent and success, but between their potential and their ability to access it consistently under pressure. This episode unpacks the idea of interference and why so many coaches misdiagnose the problem when performance drops. Instead of asking what a player, coach, or team needs more of, Coach Collins challenges listeners to ask a better question: what is already there that is getting blocked by fear, doubt, pressure, overthinking, hesitation, or outside noise? Coach Collins explains how interference shows up in athletes, teams, and coaches. For athletes, it can look like fear of failure, playing cautiously, overthinking, or losing confidence after mistakes. For coaches, it can look like avoiding difficult conversations, coaching emotionally, second-guessing decisions, or worrying too much about outside opinions. Different people, same problem. Something internal is getting in the way of what they are already capable of doing. This episode is also a leadership lesson in subtraction. Most coaches are wired to add when things go wrong. Add more drills. Add more film. Add more structure. Add more correction. But often the real breakthrough does not come from adding another layer. It comes from removing the thing that is choking performance. Removing confusion. Removing fear. Removing unrealistic expectations. Removing the pressure that makes athletes and coaches stop trusting their work. If you are coaching a team that looks tighter in games than it does in practice, if you are leading athletes who have more in them than they are consistently showing, or if you are a coach who feels like you are overcoaching when the pressure rises, this episode is for you. Great coaching is not always about building something new. Sometimes it is about uncovering what is already there and helping it show up when it matters most. This is a strong reminder that elevating performance is not always about more. Sometimes it is about less. Less fear. Less hesitation. Less noise. Less clutter. And that kind of leadership can change everything. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

What happens when government scientists decide they can no longer stay silent? In this episode of We Want Them Infected, Jonathan Howard and Wendy Orent welcome Dr. Jenna Norton and Dr. Sylvia Chou—two former NIH scientists who helped organize and sign the Bethesda Declaration, an open letter raising concerns about political interference in biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health. The conversation explores why hundreds of NIH employees came together to publicly challenge policies they say undermined scientific integrity, disrupted clinical research, and created a culture of fear within one of the world's leading research institutions. Dr. Norton and Dr. Chou discuss the events leading to the Declaration, the difficult personal decisions they faced, and what they believe has changed one year later. They also examine the broader implications for public trust, scientific independence, and the future of federally funded medical research. Whether you agree or disagree with their conclusions, this episode offers an inside perspective from scientists who experienced these events firsthand. In This Episode The origins of the Bethesda Declaration Why NIH scientists chose to publicly dissent Allegations of political influence over scientific research Grant terminations and their impact on ongoing clinical trials How censorship concerns affected researchers inside NIH The culture of fear described by current and former NIH employees The challenges facing early-career scientists Scientific integrity versus political priorities Why the authors say courage and transparency matter in public health Reflections one year after the Bethesda Declaration Key Takeaways Scientific institutions depend on open debate and independent inquiry. Research funding decisions can have lasting consequences for patients and public health. Whistleblowing often comes with significant personal and professional risk. Public trust in science requires transparency and accountability. The future of biomedical research depends on protecting scientific integrity. Subscribe to We Want Them Infected for thoughtful conversations examining the policies, decisions, and scientific debates that continue to shape public health.

Last week, all eyes were on Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's confirmation hearing to lead the Justice Department. Mary and Andrew begin with their takeaways: from Blanche's “evasive, hyper-technical non-responses” to why his close relationship with Donald Trump is problematic, noting a moment where Blanche referred to himself as “his lawyer” and then quickly corrected himself — which Mary called a Freudian slip. They then turn to Trump's Thursday night address, where he claimed that U.S. elections have been compromised for years. Separating fact from fiction, the co-hosts look at how Trump's undermining of public confidence may affect the upcoming midterms. Mary and Andrew also highlight reporting from the New York Times indicating a slew of cases brought by ICE against protesters and immigrants are failing the sniff test in court. Plus, an update on former Columbia graduate student Mahmoud Khalil, who recently filed a lawsuit alleging the government and others were part of an effort to suppress criticism of Israel from pro-Palestinian demonstrators. Further Reading:  This is the New York Times' reporting on ICE cases falling apart: They Were Charged With Assaulting ICE Agents. The Cases Are Crumbling. And here is their reporting on ICE related shootings: At Least 23 People Have Been Shot at by Federal Immigration Agents Since Last Year Andrew and Mary also wanted to note this new Compendium from Just Security: “Zero Evidence”: How Judges and Grand Juries Have Rejected the Trump Administration Efforts to Investigate and Prosecute Sign up for MS NOW Premium on Apple Podcasts to listen to this show and other MS podcasts without ads. Abuse can have profound and lasting effects on an individual, often leading to trauma later in life. Here is a summary of how abuse can lead to trauma:Psychological Impact: Abuse erodes an individual's sense of safety, trust, and self-worth. This can lead to feelings of powerlessness, helplessness, and shame, which are at the core of traumatic experiences.Complex Reactions: Victims of abuse often develop complex emotional and psychological reactions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is characterized by symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, and hypervigilance. These reactions can persist long after the abuse has ended.Changes in Brain Chemistry: Chronic stress and trauma can lead to changes in brain chemistry, affecting the brain's ability to regulate emotions and stress responses. This can result in heightened anxiety and an increased vulnerability to further traumatic experiences.Interference with Development: Childhood abuse can interfere with healthy emotional and psychological development. It can disrupt the formation of secure attachments, which are crucial for a person's ability to form healthy relationships later in life.Maladaptive Coping Mechanisms: Many survivors of abuse develop maladaptive coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse or self-harming behaviors, to numb emotional pain or regain a sense of control.Revictimization: Individuals who have experienced abuse in the past may be at an increased risk of being revictimized in adulthood. They may find themselves in situations or relationships that echo their earlier traumatic experiences.Impact on Self-Identity: Abuse can lead to a negative self-concept and a distorted view of oneself. Survivors may struggle with feelings of guilt, self-blame, and a persistent sense of being damaged or unworthy.Physical Health Consequences: The stress and emotional toll of abuse can also have physical health consequences, leading to conditions like chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, and cardiovascular problems.Difficulty with Trust and Intimacy: Survivors of abuse may find it challenging to trust others and establish intimate relationships due to their past experiences of betrayal and violation of boundaries.Long-Term Psychological Symptoms: Trauma resulting from abuse can manifest as long-term symptoms, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and eating disorders, which can significantly impact an individual's quality of life.In the case of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell and their decades of unchecked abuse, the number of surivvors who have suffered signifigant trauma is eye popping and brings up the glaring issue that survivors always seem to face: A lack of resources to help them in the aftermath.
