Jillian Michaels https://youtu.be/beIBKAiLkmU Pat Barber rebuttal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF3IXzSNeCU Hey, its ya girl Amy here... Well well well, jIlLiAn MiChAelS, here we are. OK OK OK, if you're coming here for a feud, ya won't hear it. But, what you will hear is 1 mature level headed intelligent host (Olivia), and one not so much, but really working on her anger(Amy), share their personal feelings about this lady's opinion. Because it is just that, an OPINION. Olivia and I have both been Crossfit coaches for years, so we are fully qualified to speak on CF's mantra. Even though we really don't want to give her any attention, this is a great learning lesson on how to deal with haters. Its not easy, especially when speaking in the fitness realm, most people **newsflash** aren't in it for the money. Its a lot of hard work for the love of healing others. SO, it can be a little triggering as they say, right Liv? Lastly, the timing for this open dis, to her platform of millions of viewers mind you, couldn't be worse. A lot of mom and pop Crossfit gyms, and gyms in general are BLEEDING as they are facing closures and members leaving due to Covid. Not cool sis. But we all make mistakes, and we are not cool with cancel culture, so we hope after you (Jillian) have watched the rebuttal video by Pat Barber, you can be challenged on which way to land. A big sign of growth! Admitting when you were maybe, unclear on something and now you're good! At least that's what Olivia has taught me! Cheers to knowledge Jill!!! Stay nasty, babes. --Amy and Olivia
Hellooooo world! Here we are! Another episode, another week. To piggy back off of our last episode we want to chat some more about COVID and all that is quarantine madness. Does anyone else feel like they have been living Groundhog Day over and over and over and ov.... you get the point. Seems as if nothing can shock us anymore. Kind of a weird place. Well, we are here to provide you with an alternative outlook. Since nothing seems to be changing and more lock downs could be a possibility; what can we control? Olivia and Amy are here to give you a solid plan for the future if indeed this does happen again. What have we learned and how can we evolve?! Let's dig in! Stay nasty babes
Fitness in the digital age isn't a new phenomenon...It's actually been a thing for quite a while. Amy and Olivia sit down to chat through what it looks like to take your fitness online. What are the benefits? What are the not so awesome pieces of it? How does your mindset shift everything? This episode is also aired on Burg CrossFit's podcast -- The Boom Show Stay healthy (and nasty). --Amy & Olivia Love it? Like it? We'd be so grateful if you would leave us a review! Wow. What a time to be alive. In today's episode, Amy and Olivia chat about life in the midst of a pandemic. Our hope is that you'll feel seen, heard and so much of our experience is our collective experience as a community, a nation, a people. We're better, together. Load vs. Capacity. We all do it. We push ourselves just that little bit more and BOOM. We get injured. We blame the last rep. We blame our fatigue. Whatever. You don't just step into the gym with zero baggage. It's time we start noticing what we are walking in with and moving/fitnessing accordingly. Welcome to the concept of load vs. capacity Thanks to the fine folks at Active Life who inspired this chat
We get it. Who doesn't love a good discount?
We can see clearly now
Hello! Today we begin with quite the tangent. If you have been with us recently, Olivia and Amy have admitted to being in a big funk in the last several months. Call it what you want, high functioning depression is not fun. We begin today going in an unplanned direction, which in our opinion, is the best. We chat about how we are drawing from or have dealt with some of this and maybe hoping to help some of you struggling with the same. Our real topic (besides ourselves today, oops) is relationships. We listened to a great episode recently where a couple talked about how they counsel couples to be better for each other. They do chat about the enneagram which is awesome too! We dissect these tips and elaborate on them ourselves. We think you will walk away from today with some serious useful info! ENJOY! Every so often we like to sit down and have some heart chats over questions that YOU have sent us. So. Here we go. Hi and welcome to the first 20 seconds of our show, where saying vagina multiple times is nothing out of the ordinary. Breaking news...Olivia and I are indeed LADAYS. So, without people coming to the conclusion that we are raging feminists, we wanted to chat about a little thing called gender bias. Olivia and I are both coaches, so we are focusing more on this area but let's face it...it's everywhere. This is not a man hating, burn your tampons, everything pink sort of conversation, just so we're clear (we love men). We just want to explore why it happens and maybe you can start paying attention to the gender bias you place on certain roles in your own life. After all, we're all trying to pursue health together, right? Well, if vaginas, boobs, and humor are not you thing you probably shouldn't listen, or you probably should
On this week's episode we are talking all things CrossFit open! We are in week 2 as we speak and we hope to give you a better insight as to what the heck it even is! Olivia and Amy chat about what signing up for the open entails, and give their advice on why you should do it. If you're in the CrossFit space you have probably noticed changes in how the sport is moving. All good things. One of the unique ways CrossFit is shifting is in how several gyms are now doing what's called the Intramural Open. Why is this being done and what are the benefits? Lastly, we talk about the future of CrossFit. All to say, you will probably be signing up for the open this year or the next after you give this a listen! Not going to lie. This one is heavy...we MUST tell all stories. Being a mom is the toughest job on the planet and yet there is still so much that we don't talk about. Whether, it's postpartum experiences, feeling overwhelmed, grief, depression... We. Need. To. Talk. More. Today, we are sharing another story of an amazing human named Natalie. We are not going to give away too much other than if you have been looking for someone to help you get through significant grief and loss, we think you'll like this one. Natalie is an amazing human/mom/wife/sister/friend/etc that shares a tragic event that shaped her families life forever. She brings a perspective to what you can place value on, an important lesson we all need to learn. At the end of the day, Natalie is strong AF, and so are you. Let her story inspire your spirit to grab every second of life by the balls (can I say balls?) and embrace the suck sometimes. Amy here,. thought it would be the perfect moment to write these as I'm sitting here, looking at the leaves, drinking my Pumpkin spice coffee. Basic level achieved. *insert Mario brothers noise* Today's episode is a little early to be talking about holidays but we wanted to get the conversation started (you can't have too much pumpkin AMIRIGHT). If you're anything like me (I bet you are)--every. single. year you do the same thing: “I will not go overboard this year." Fast forward to January 1; Narrator “She actually did go over board." *gasp* Why do we do this? Well, on today's episode we are trying to put some realness on the habits we exhibit. Our intentions are great but we always stand in our own way. Secondly, we discuss the group scenario. You know the one, where you're at a function, you refuse a drink, and the world implodes on itself aka people start freaking out! Olivia and I have been on both sides of this and we are wondering how you would act in the same setting. Among many other things...So, sit back, grab yo punkin whatever and let's figure the holidays out. They be comin in hawt. Stay nasty. --Amy & Olivia Love it? Like it? When we love something, we are not afraid to yell from the rooftops. Especially, when it's another bad ass female taking over the fitness space with authentic wisdom. This is just the case with our “she doesn't know it yet” friend Miranda Alcatraz of Street Parking. We are fan girling hard! In one of her recent episodes (see below for the link), she talks about why we are willing to work in jobs we loathe yet we can't seem to find 20mins a few times a week to do something that will literally save our lives. Wut. We were inspired. It's the ONE thing you can control in your life (mostly). The smallest changes will yield the biggest results, but we aren't doing them. Like, ever. In a time when knowledge and education are FREE and all over the place, we choose to do nothing. As you know, Olivia and Amy are not afraid to unpack tough, uncomfortable topics and this is one of them. We hope if you're in a rut or you are trying to get ahold of your health, you take some time and give this episode a listen.
HELLLOOOOOO Today the ladies are coming in hot with a dope new episode with one of their buddies...Dylan Bowman. Olivia chats with Dylan about her own personal journey into fitness and how she has come to discover more of herself than she ever thought possible...by working out. It's no surprise that working out is hella therapeutic but have you ever considered why that is? What comes up for you during your workout? How do you talk to yourself? All of this points to how you're doing emotionally. It's wild that so much of ourselves can be seen in the gym...like, our authentic selves. So, lets do this thing. Follow Morning Chalk up mainly because they are the dopest (also have been fans of us since the beginning). 3. Ok here we go... Today's episode we are addressing the main tenets found within the above article--should your gym remove the “RX” standard from WODs? *Gasp *hand over mouth *heart rate rises *eye roll emoji ect. If this gives you the “oh no they didn't!” vibes then definitely give this spicy episode a listen. Olivia and Amy, both of whom are seasoned CrossFit coaches and athletes, give their 2 cents on it all. Whether you like this idea or not, there is some definite psychology to wanting to click that RX button at any cost. We chat about the “should-could” rule, and lastly how NOT to be that guy in the gym. There's so many ways to get into this and boy do they. We. Is. Back. It's no secret we've been MIA for a hot minute. Both social media and recording have kinda sorta taken a back seat. If this has annoyed you, trust us.... with Olivia being a 3 and Amy an 8 it has been on our minds to try and figure out a way to deliver our podcasts more frequently. In the same breath though, we feel like, and our moms tell us, we put out great content. We don't want to be rushed or forced to put out a shitty episode just because. That's not coool. So we are trying our best as we always encourage you to do. This week we are talking abut grief. Being that the last episode we aired was when we lost our gal pal Becky Conzelman, we wanted to touch on what exactly grief means. Olivia, who was close with Becky, has had to deal with this first hand recently. We talk about what it looks like for different people, and maybe how to approach someone who may be grieving. We also chat about grieving a relationship or a trauma that you've had to overcome . Did you know you actually go through the grief cycle there too? Go ahead, google Kubbler-Ross Grief Cycle. Becky Conzelman is with Jesus. I never thought I would write those words...well, not for a VERY long time, at least. We did this interview before Amy moved to Ohio. When Olivia found out that she had to re-do her entire internship for counseling in the state of Florida. A lot of life has been lived since this interview and lots of shared memories have happened with Becky, too. Until she passed away suddenly from a brain aneurism on the morning of April 6, 2019. Becky was hella fit. Late forties. A lover of Jesus and a lover of people. She was married for over 20+ years to Jim. They have 2 beautiful kiddos. It sucks. As a way of grieving and a way to remember, we wanted to re-air this episode with Becky because it is such a depiction of the kind of woman she was. Always seeking balance in her life. Shifting things around to make space for her kids and what they needed from her. Pursuing her passion within Faith RXD. Anchoring herself, all the while, in Jesus. Becky. Conzelmom. You are and will forever be missed. You wouldn't want any of this to be about you but about the Jesus you knew and loved. We love you. --Amy & Olivia #dikdik #dikdikforever #faithrxd Resources Want to buy some sweet swag? Want to make a tax deductible gift? Head to www.faithrxd.org to do any and all of those things.
Welcome to a new week at NGP! Today we are chatting about your morning routine and why it likely won't work for you...well, not how you have always thought of it, anyways. Work life balance is sooo hard to nail down. Both Amy and Olivia discuss their schedules and how they have felt with success and a little bit of not-so-much this past week. We cover the slippery slope of comparing someone else's routine to yours and how troublesome that can be. We also get down and dirty with the social media traps that can make you feel like you're not doing ANYTHING right. So, sit down with us and give us a listen as we actually took this one and ran with it! Have a great week! Train nasty, babes. --Amy & Olivia Resources The Best Self Journal Ya dig it? Everywhere you turn there's a new podcast or a new company promoting the best way to loose weight, train different or a new perspective. It's quite overwhelming, we know. Personally, we only interview and promote folks who are willing to answer deep questions and “go there” with us. We never send questions beforehand and if someone is on our show, it's because we VALUE them as a human. That being said, we have two amazing influencers joining us today. When Justin from Morning Chalk up (click the link below to subscribe) told us these were “our people” he was spot on. Michael and Adee Cazayoux are on with us today taking about WAG. Working Against Gravity is a nutrition coaching company but they are far from your standard nutrition company. They focus on WHAT works for you. They help find the real reasons why you are not getting to your goals....ahem ahem like on the inside, wait get your mind out of the gutter, we mean your mindset. What a journey it's been working our way through the Enneagram. If you're like, “say whaaaaaaa?” Head back into the archives and check out the episode “Ennea-whaaaaat.” Trust us. It'll all make sense soon. Still with me? Cool. In today's episode, Amy gets really real and talks about her journey of self discovery and self reflection in coming to better understand herself as an Enneagram 8. What rejection and betrayal have looked like for her and some serious vulnerability talk happens. This episode is definitely one for the books. Hey it's us, doing another episode...HIGH FIVE. In an effort to get our $hit together we have adulted our way to another week on the Nasty Girls Podcast. This week, we are switching gears a little. We always cover mental health aspects, fitness, introspective-y type topics so today we are covering the work place. Basically, how not to be “that guy”. If you are “that guy”...well this one might be a tad bit uncomfortable. Growth happens whilst being uncomfortable so break out your best deodorant and lets get our anxiety sweats on! We are talking about the concept of core values and what it means to have them. The Ideal Team Player is a book by Patrick Lencioni where humble, hungry, smart are the three core values he deems most important in the work place. Olivia and Amy walk you through each one. Don't worry we are still here y'all. Back for another episode full of awkward humor and knowledge bombs. In this follow up episode, we do not talk about toilets. I know, boo, hiss, in fact we are talking more about the four pillars of meaning. Again, all the kudos to Emily Esfahani Smith and her amazing book (link in the show notes) she came up with this profound way to describe what it truly means to be "happy". Amy and Olivia chat about the last two pillars: storytelling and transcendence. We also dive into the difference between being happy and actually having meaning. What does Ben Bergeron, the Red Sox, an eagle, and a chicken have in common? Plot twist, nothing. It would make for a cool knock knock joke... Anyhooglesbee... This week we are catching up with Ames after her trip to Boston to meet Ben Bergeron. She goes over some takeaways from the class she took that maybe you can apply to your life. There is a story about an Eagle and a Chicken that she heard as well and wanted to share with the NGN. It's a pretty awesome parable that we think you'll find quite fitting to your own life. Transverrr whaaaat? That's right we made up a damn word; transversations. We are having conversations about transitions. Talking all things change. If you have been under a rock for 9 months and haven't figured out that Olivia was preggo, well we have proof, she actually had a real baby. It was not just for social media (haha ;o) In all seriousness, little Cannon James has come into the world and we are so excited! Olivia discusses this transition in her life and what motherhood has looked like for this self proclaimed recovering perfectionist. Then there's Amy (she's the one who's not preggo). She discusses her big move and the impact that has made on her confidence. It's been 7 months since she left St. Pete! Was it worth it? Does she miss it? Is she still a nun? Mindset is everything. We talk about it all the time. We are finding that people are paying less attention to physical changes and more attention to improving your mental game. Why is that? Fixed mindset versus a growth mindset...what do those look like? More than likely, you probably struggle with having a fixed mindset more often than not and you don't even know it. Don't worry, though, we do too, and that's why we are here. Today we talk about the power behind having a growth mindset vs. a fixed mindset and what it all means. Are you a perfectionist? If we imagine this person, we think of the Doctor, type A, everything is organized and sorted to “perfection”; but we are referring to another type. “Perfectionism is not the same thing has striving to be your best. Perfectionism is the belief that if we live perfect, look perfect, and act perfect, we can minimize or avoid the pain of blame, judgement, and shame. It's a shield. It's a twenty-ton shield that we lug around thinking it will protect us when, in fact, it's the thing that's really preventing us from flight.” -Brene Brown Whoa, let that one sink in. Are you trying to be something you're not? Trying to appear a certain way is something that is all to common. On this episode, Olivia and Amy discuss how they relate to this. Before we say anything, welcome back to all new episodes!!!! Also, did you know that we were featured in Runners World Magazine!!!!! Top 20 podcasts for fitness, are you freaking kidding me? All because of you guys! Our podcast, the one we thought we would have maybe 200 listeners in a year. Our podcast, where we never sell out or sexualize ourselves for likes. Our podcast, where authenticity runs the show. Y'all, the underdog is doing the damn thing! Most importantly our podcast is YOUR podcast. We want YOU to feel accepted and fulfilled here as we do! Let's get into it! You may have seen her interview with the CrossFit podcast...if you haven't, boy do we have some fresh newness for you this week. We have Olivia Vollmar on the show and holy smokes how small the world is. Wait till you hear this one. Her story is amazing and it's what CrossFit is all about. It's not pretty, it's not fluffy, but it's especially not over. We talk to her about her journey, finding out she has fibromyalgia, battling depression and struggling with suicide and food issues. All of which may help you in your life if you are having the same struggles. Thank you Olivia for being so vulnerable and taking your time out to be with us. **In an effort to provide incredible content AND to practice what we preach, the nasty girls are taking the month of August off to tap into some creativity and re-charge. Enjoy listening to our most popular episodes from the last 3 months throughout the month of August** :) Heyooooo! Happy Monday! Can you believe it's almost August?! This year has definitely flown by! We can't wait for what's in store for the rest of 2018. Today, we are grazing over several topics that are important to us. There's a lot of unknowns when starting your own journey that no one really tells you about and the Nasty Girls are here to help a sista (or brotha) out. We chat about nutrition for a bit and how weighing your food is super eye opening. Over estimating your portions could be what's holding you back from that last 5 lbs you can't loose. Amy discusses her challenges that she's had to over come when faced with a HUGE life change, as well. Let's admit it. Crossfit is king but we are definitely biased. With any high intensity workout there comes a point where you're going to need more volume or less food to get results. We explore the next steps after you're no longer a beginner! Lastly we cover all things scaling and why you SHOULD scale. Alright, babes! Sit back and enjoy this one! Stay Nasty. --Amy & Olivia Thanks for listening! **In an effort to provide incredible content AND to practice what we preach, the nasty girls are taking the month of August off to tap into some creativity and re-charge. Enjoy listening to our most popular episodes from the last 3 months throughout the month of August** :) Today we are talking a couple of good topics, per usual. We want you to approach this episode with an open mind and maybe it can trigger some internal dialogue which is what we aim for! Have you read the book “The 5 love Languages” yet? Okay, if you haven't.... um, why? Seriously though, this book is amazing. Olivia and Amy talk about their love languages and how they can often change. Maybe this is the key to fixing a broken friendship or relationship in your life. We have all known that person who plays the victim, nothing is ever their fault and they have a reason for everything. Today, we also discuss the ever so common personality flaw called playing the victim. What does it look like and what are some of the common signs? We discuss a great article that helps us figure out how we can try to avoid doing this ourselves. Stay nasty. --Amy and Olivia Resources The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman The article that Amy references: https://www.lifehack.org/287448/14-signs-someone-always-playing-the-victim Thanks for listening! **In an effort to provide incredible content AND to practice what we preach, the nasty girls are taking the month of August off to tap into some creativity and re-charge. Enjoy listening to our most popular episodes from the last 3 months throughout the month of August** :) This week we are talking about goals. We have covered goal setting in depth in past episodes but this time we tackle, specifically, how to eliminate distractions in order to achieve your goal(s). We titled this “head down, eyes forward” because it encapsulates the journey to the end result. A lot of times in fitness/life you find yourself with a goal in mind but we allow distractions in and focus on every little bump in the road making it twice as hard to get there. Olivia and Amy talk about their journeys to where there are and how a lot of it is really just a bunch of un-sexy habits that eventually lead to success. No one pays attention to the hours you put in behind the scenes but they sure do care about the outcome...That's ok, head down eyes forward on that goal and you'll be there in NO TIME! **In an effort to provide incredible content AND to practice what we preach, the nasty girls are taking the month of August to tap into some creativity and re-charge. Enjoy listening to our most popular episodes throughout the month of August....See you in September** :) If you're new to the show you know Olivia and Amy are constantly challenging you to discover new layers to yourself....on the reg. This week is no different. Today we are talking all things temptation. You see something you want, right? It's that handbag you've been after, that watch, that cupcake, that hot new intern, whatever the item you're tempted. What's a healthy temptation and an unhealthy temptation look like? What's the difference between lust and just merely wanting something. What the heck is contempt and how do we use it to get what we THINK we want? These are all things that if not explored could show up in all avenues of your life. If you're someone who fixates on items until you have them then chances are that might show up in your romantic relationships too. Alright, alright we've given you enough...we have to leave you “lusting” for more right? Or do we? Sit tight for this week's new episode!! Train nasty. --Amy & Olivia Thanks for listening! Heeyaa nasty girl nation! We hope you are already off to a great week! Thanks for tuning in and as always we love how much we have grown our little Nasty Girl family! This week we are talking all things motivation. What happens when you fall off the wagon. We tried so hard to make an Oregon trail reference here, but we digress. Olivia and Amy are chatting about tips and ways to conquer that dreaded lull in your fitness journey. They both give examples of how they fought their way back from a drop in motivation and we think you'll find yourself in some of their examples. One of the big things that hit home for us was the comparison to treating movement like a prescribed medicine for you. You wouldn't argue with the dosage of medicine your doc prescribes you, yet we take it everyday with out a care in our mind. Why can't we view movement as so? All things to ponder... and with that we hope this helps someone, somewhere trying to get your mojo back! Thanks for listening! Stay Nasty. --Amy & Olivia Thanks for listening! Sorry for the delay fam! We are coming in hot today! Ready? 2 truths 1 lie: Amy and Olivia were late getting the podcast out because:
This is the number 6, wait turn it upside down and it's a 9. Is the glass half full or half empty? This is perception, my friends, and it is not usually your reality. You hear it all the time “perception is reality” but is it? Are we the ones drawing conclusions and writing our own stories to what we experience or what we see? Amy and Olivia touch on this topic in this week's episode trying to shed some light on a common term. We have bought into this throw away mentality...if something appears a particular way then it must be true or if it's not we judge the other way. Out goes any facts or further digging, it's a 6 because they said it's a 6. But is this right? Time for some #realtalk...ya meaaaan? Stay Nasty. --Amy and Olivia Thanks for listening! One of the things we are very aware of and attempt to do at NGP is to be as honest as we can with ourselves...for example, always being a student to your reactions and feelings. Why am I saying all this? Well, we are chatting about CrossFit today. Not JUST CrossFit but to us this goes a bit deeper. What misconceptions come along with the sport, and why? Why do we go too far or don't go at all? Why are we so out of touch with our current state that someone telling us to move a certain way makes us hot (not in a good way). Olivia and Amy discuss and episode they both listened to recently by Ben Bergeron. He's a heavy hitter coaches of all coaches in the CrossFit world. Basically, he's the man. In a previous episode he talks about the difference between a regular affiliate athlete and a CrossFit games competitive athlete. Why does this matter? Well, hold on tight because we gonna tell you. Amy here. I usually like to remain anonymous when I write these but this week was EVERYTHING to me. We are talking shop with mompreneur and overall bad ass, Kristi Hayes of BE Strong Story. Their companies mantra is “be strong, protect the weak, and love everyone” I mean, come on, sign me up for whatever that is. This interview hit home for me because I'm 33 with no kids, no husband, and none of those two in any near sight...by all considerations, I should start collecting cats and building my cats trees. I've always had this tremendous fear that as a fearless, independent, driven, successful woman you would have to give all that up to have kids or get married. I know ME, of all people, after all we talk about on this episode should really GTFO but Kristi shows us that she has NOT let these things define her rather has created an authentic life through some serious hardships. Kristi is a mom of two, a wife to a hottie husband and is learning what it means to find her passion in her work and in her home life with her family. Her company, Be Strong Story, sells amazing apparel that goes to all kinds of good organizations. She even employs the homeless to help make their company shirts. This girl is the real deal so check out The Be Strong Story. Thank you Kristi for sharing your story and giving me hope of airplane love. Stay Nasty. --Amy & Olivia Thanks for listening!
