What does a woman from 2014 and murder from 1934 have in common? Read Doorway to Murder and find out. When Olivia sees a man framed in the door to her bedroom hall during a blizzard in 2014. She at first thinks someone has broken into her house, but suddenly the figure vanishes. Meanwhile, during a 1934 blizzard, a bank president is murdered in the vault. In this episode, we have invited Olivia Fermi, a counselor, coach, teacher, and writer. Her natural gift is to help people heal and release limiting patterns. Olivia has 20 years of experience in her expertise. Today, Olivia guides and explains the specific things that she does and how does it help people to heal. What is spirituality? [00:36] The latest definition that Olivia heard was that spirituality is our humanness. There is something so human and grounded about spirituality. Being able to connect different philosophies, sciences, and ways of being altogether to make it sound like one whole unit. The Diamond Approach [02:31] It was started by a man from Kuwait named Hamida Lee. When he was 18, he wanted to understand the universe, but then he started going to different spiritual teachers and he jumped out of physics and went into spiritual development and personal development. And the heart of the diamond approach is inquiry. It's like at this moment, what am I experiencing? [05:19] It's like embodied listening. So when we sense in our body, it's like how we know where we are in space. How does Olivia’s grandfather create an impact on how she sees the world? [09:54] Olivia’s grandfather did the first credible theory of the week. He was poking around without him. It was like bombarding them and breaking them apart and doing all these things. That's how Olivia ended up working on the Manhattan project. In their family, he was like a god, and he and Rachel Carson who started the environmental movement in the United States were like the two gods in their family. [11:04] When Olivia discovered the diamond approach and inquiry, she wanted to bring it back out into the world. Thoughts on Blockchain [15:47] With blockchain, everything is transparent. Everything gets recorded. So you can't manipulate systems, you can't manipulate money. Every transaction that you make is going to be linked to your own mark in the blockchain. With blockchain, we're more protected because data is private. [21:13] As a collective, we usually start acting on when things actually end up getting worse. Our governance systems are so clunky. When you talk about blockchain and the speed of it and the VI, the vision of it is that it's responsive and quick and gets rid of intermediaries. So we need the equivalent of that in governance in how we govern ourselves so that when there's an issue, we're not just kind of trying to lobby our delegate to do what we want. First step to maximize yourselves to your fullest potential [26:15] If we let all that go, it's really looking within. It comes back to the inquiry or that proprioceptive dialogue. [31:24] The way that you let yourself notice. Your arms and legs, you just gently allow sound. [37:52] When we get in touch with our emotional intelligence, like the stuff that is going on underneath suddenly starts to just surface. And once it surfaces, you pay attention to it. [40:51] There's a man named Eugene Gamblin that people can look up. He developed focusing, and it's where you sense your body to find what's going on. And through his work, they actually did some studies and they found that in counseling when people have a felt sense, they're more likely to succeed in counseling than if it's just talking. What is it that draws Olivia to counseling? [42:27] Olivia feels like in another life, she’d totally be a therapist. [47:10] It's not like you have to be totally healed to be a counselor. You have to be healed enough so that you're aware. Does Olivia feel in communication with people during their transition into death or after that? [52:35] For Olivia, it's been after and she talked to some people where it's more like during the transition, but it's always been after. This week, Olivia Young, founder of Box + Flow, the first fitness studio focusing on fight + flow, joins me on the podcast. Olivia exuded such passion for life, movement, and flow during our conversation. One of the topics we discussed was the notion of the constant fight we find within ourselves; and how Olivia invites us all to drop the fight and find the flow, instead. I personally talk a lot about flow yet Olivia activates flow. She shares what flow means to her and what it can mean to your life, as well.  She also offers some other insightful ideas for you to ponder like, how to ease up on resistance in order to find success, her favorite mantra, “Everything you need is inside…,” and how to practice self-awareness. In fact, Olivia leaves us with a self-awareness exercise that is fantastic. I hope you enjoy our conversation!   Olivia ‘Liv’ Young grew up in Miami Beach among a family committed to daily exercise and congregating around the kitchen. She began practicing yoga at age 15 and discovered boxing after college, craving some fight for her flow. Olivia’s daily focus on a balanced lifestyle through food + fitness is her lifelong passion and much of which inspired her to open box + flow in NYC, the first fitness studio focusing on the integration of fight + flow.  In 2009, Young moved to New York City to attend French Culinary Institute and began an internship at Food & Wine. Despite her food focused career filled with Michelin starred feasts, Young was committed to her daily 5am wake-up and fitness regimen at local studios. She began more intense boxing training and completed her 200 HR yoga teaching certification. As a daily practitioner of intense cardio boxing followed by fast power flow, Olivia realized that the combination of both exercises brought her a leveled empowerment, channeling her confidence as well as her softness. It was this balance, physical + mental that led her to seek more in her professional life. This is such a great conversation for you especially if you need a pep talk to love yourself, to listen to your gut, and to decide to flow rather than fight through this thing we call life.   After many years in the hospitality industry, Young realized that she wanted to recreate the feeling she had gotten for so long, through her daily commitment and finally chose to pursue her passion of fitness with box + flow®.  Young practices a ‘LIVYOUNG lifestyle’ inspiring those to embrace both sides of themselves and all aspects of life. She is developing a balanced brand for everyone and encourages enjoyment without limitation - committed to bringing forth a lifestyle that speaks to all things. work hard, LIVYOUNG. after livyoung, to add "love yourself" it’s really about putting in the effort in YOU to find the ease THRU you. after livyoung, to add "love yourself" it’s really about putting in the effort in YOU to find the ease THRU you.  Highlights  How Olivia started Box + Flow and how it’s up to each one of us to ease through resistance to be successful in your everyday life.  (7:13)  When Olivia realized her name is Liv Young - you work hard to live young. (8:50)  How flow makes things possible and what flow actually means to Olivia. (10:20) Olivia describes the mantra, “Everything you need is inside...” (13:00) Life and the direction it’s going has always been overwhelming, it’s just heightened right now because of COVID. (17:00) Music is emotive and what music means to Olivia and her work. (19:00) Olivia speaks on food to fitness and how she sees herself. (21:00) Being very present with what you are doing and asking yourself, “Is this fueling myself or filling my time?” (26:00) We discuss numbing our feelings and how Olivia gained so much self-awareness. (28:00) How to be alone but not so lonely. (45:08) Olivia shares an exercise to help you discover your own level of self-awareness. Do this exercise! (45:33)  I invite you to do Olivia’s self-awareness exercise.  Step 1:  Find quiet.  Be in a safe place and be extra honest. Then ask yourself:   Where do you want to go or where do you want to be? Think of this in a way that makes you feel free.  Start to connect the dots. Who are you beyond societal indicators?  Step 2:  If you feel resistance during this step, you are already on step two.  Now go back to the quiet space and decipher where your feelings are stemming from.  That is when you can start to grow your self-awareness. [Text Wrapping Break]  Links to quench your curiosity  Follow Olivia on Instagram Learn more about Box + Flow

He says he loves her and has always loved their lifestyle, but it’s all changing now. He says he fell in love with her the way she looked before, kinda curvy, and he loved their routines like going to Olde Country Buffet or going to the movies. Now he feels like he’s dating a “gym rat health nut”. When Olivia comes on she says he left out a major detail: her doctor told her she is at an unhealthy weight and at risk for diabetes and heart disease, and has to make some major changes. Dave says he gets that, but thinks Olivia is overreacting. He also doesn’t think she really needs to dress so provocatively to go to the gym, although he is describing basic workout clothes. And then…it becomes clear they’ve both been holding on to these issues for a while because the gloves come off!

He says he is proud of her and wants her to be happy but now he’s not sure how they are going to make it on just his check as a part-time waiter. When Olivia joins us, she acknowledges the actual decision was impulsive but says they had been talking about the future a lot and this was on the table, and she knew it was time to make a move to better their lives. She says she loves him and is doing it for both of them. The P1’s are pretty divided on their prospects for the future: some say she is selfish for doing it without talking to him, others say he sounds lazy and she could do way better. What do you think?

A lot of life has been lived since this interview and lots of shared memories have happened with Becky, too. Until she passed away suddenly from a brain aneurism on the morning of April 6, 2019. A bi-sexual woman, Olivia Lollis did not know she could choose other love structures besides monogamy. She knew of polygamy and found the practice unfair and sexist so she practiced monogamy almost out of ignorance. With no knowledge of other forms of ethical non-monogamy, she ended up partnering with one man at a time. On this episode, she talks about discovering swinging as a single woman and exploring this form of non-monogamy on her own before meeting and marrying a man who was also interested in the practice. She was soon to learn that control of women’s sexuality was not unique just to monogamy. As a swinging couple, her husband wanted to control every aspect of who they partnered with, only consenting to an encounter when the woman fit his standards. When Olivia began to desire more than just sex with one particular woman, her husband tried to guilt her for wanting to fully practice polyamory. She began to realize that her sexuality had to be expressed through him while not threatening his ego. Olivia also talks about coming to the realization that her partnerships with heterosexual men often led to them exploiting her bisexuality for their own personal gain. It was when she decided being solo poly was best for her that she began to figure out a relationship configuration that worked. She now has multiple relationships that are separate from each other. She no longer shies away from letting a heterosexual male partner know that when she says “I am looking for a girlfriend,” it means a girlfriend for her and her alone. “I have freed myself from being sexual property,” Olivia says. “I am my primary partner and all others are secondary.” Olivia asserts that she wants her cake and to eat it, too. And she is no longer allowing men access to the recipe.

When Olivia isn’t acting, she loves performing as a singer and cellist and has even helped compose and perform songs for several of her film projects. She also loves cooking (AKA throwing random ingredients in a pan and hoping for the best).   You can download or subscribe to our podcast for FREE by clicking below. If you like “Kahnversations,” please leave a rating or review on our iTunes page!   There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.

Olivia Orvis-Bowers is currently an Administrative Coordinator with the City of Brampton having just finished working with the City of Mississauga in various administrative roles for the past 7 years. Olivia has excelled in finding her next level of success and at the age of 23, she has earned positions that would have normally taken much longer to achieve. Born and raised in Mississauga, Olivia started working for government at the age of 16, which fostered her love to serve communities, and shaped the foundation for her career in the public service. When Olivia was accepted into four post secondary programs, she was unable to decide which one she wanted to pursue and by the time she made a decision the only offer than didn’t expire was in accounting. She would later switch her focus to Management Studies where she has recently graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Humber College. She is now looking to pursue her Masters in the next two years. Among many other skills and experiences, Olivia studied abroad for a semester in Scotland, was a free lance editor for UpWork, volunteers with the SPCA and House Cat Rescue, is a well versed communicator, and most importantly an avid dad joke enthusiast. On this episode we talk about how Olivia strives to avoid complacency by seeking out the next level of success, why she decided to leave one municipal giant for another, how she worked one shift at Tommy Hilfiger then left, and we also simulate the popular channel “All Def” by diving into some pretty cringe worthy dad jokes. One day Olivia was riding a camel in Egypt when her mother woke her up. "Time to get up, sweetie-pie. Remember, you have soccer this morning. " Olivia's uniform comes in a really unattractive green. "Mommy, can you make me a red soccer shirt like this one? Please?..." "But then you'll look different from everyone else on the team" explained her mother. "That's the point." When Olivia came home from practice, her mother was working on the shirt. "Is it done yet?" she asked. "Not yet," said her mother. Olivia waited, and waited, and waited, till she was too exhausted to wait any longer. So she went out to play with the cat. "Look, darling, it's all done!" said the mother. But something was missing. "Wait a second," said Olivia. "Where's my toy?" "Where's my toy? It was right there on the bed. I just put it there. I remember exactly. That's my best toy. I need it now! Somebody took my best toy!" Olivia looked everywhere--under the rug, under the sofa, under the cat. She asked her little brother, Ian, "WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY TOY?" She asked her baby brother, William, "WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY TOY?" "Wooshee gaga." That night, and it was a dark and stormy night, Oliva was practicing her piano when she heard an awful sound. The sound got louder and louder. It was HORRIBLE, and it was coming from behind the door. So, of course, Olivia went inside. And that's when she saw it. It was... THE DOG! And he'd chewed her toy to bits. "Mommy, Daddy, Mommy, Daddy! It was Perry!" cried Olivia. "He took my best toy and chewed it to bits, and now it's wrecked." "I'm sorry, sweetie-pie," said her mother, "but doggies like to chew. And he didn't know it was your toy." "My best toy." "Don't worry," said Olivia's father. "Tomorrow we'll go get you the very best toy in the whole world." "Oh, thank you, Daddy. I love you more than anyone." Still, it was Olivia's best toy. So she fixed it, adding a bow for extra beauty. All better. "Only books about cats tonight, Mommy." But even Olivia couldn't stay mad forever.

The cast of FOX's hit series, "FRINGE," will be making an appearance on BuzzWorthy Radio this week! From J.J. Abrams ("Lost"), Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the team behind "Star Trek," "Mission: Impossible III" and "Alias," comes a new series that will thrill, terrify and explore the blurring line between the possible and the impossible. When an international flight lands at Boston's Logan Airport with no signs of life, FBI Special Agent OLIVIA DUNHAM (Anna Torv) is called in to investigate as part of an inter-agency task force. After her partner, Special Agent JOHN SCOTT (Mark Valley), is nearly killed during the investigation, a desperate Olivia searches frantically for someone to help, leading her to DR. WALTER BISHOP (John Noble), our generation's Einstein. There's only one catch: he's been institutionalized for the last 17 years, and the only way to question him requires pulling his estranged son PETER (Joshua Jackson) in to help. When Olivia's investigation leads to multi-billion dollar corporation Massive Dynamic and its manipulative corporate executive, NINA SHARP (Blair Brown), our unlikely trio, along with Department of Homeland Security Agent PHILLIP BROYLES (Lance Reddick) and FBI Agents CHARLIE FRANCIS (Kirk Acevedo) and ASTRID FARNSWORTH (Jasika Nicole), will discover that what happened on Flight 627 is only a small piece of a larger, more shocking truth. The FRINGE pilot is directed by Emmy Award-winning Alex Graves ("The West Wing"), and the series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot Productions. J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and Bryan Burk serve as executive producers.
