In this episode, Cody and the team dive deep into what made the latest in-person assessment seminar a transformative experience for both new and seasoned coaches. The conversation explores how rotating roles between coach, client, and observer enabled deeper learning, while practical sessions allowed attendees to immediately apply theory to movement assessments and modifications. They discuss the importance of contextual programming for both performance-driven and lifestyle-driven clients, and how heavy slow resistance (HSR) was introduced to help coaches understand its demands. Most importantly, this seminar became a space for critical thinking and experimentation. Attendees were encouraged to voice ideas, test them, and improve them collaboratively—creating a true incubator for growth. If you're a coach looking to refine your practice and gain real-life application experience, this episode will show you why the September seminar is a must-attend.

I remember a time when I made a plunge I didn't intend to. Nor did I want to. Matter of fact, it surprised me when I realized where I ended up. Interestingly, I found myself in the very place a guy in Scripture landed. When life gets hard, it can knock the wind out of you. Also, you feel exhausted. Things pile up over your history. Then, you can plunge - and slip from the comfortable place you normally enjoy. When life gets hard, it's critical to pro-actively do certain things to re-enter a comfortable, healthy place. I'm thinking back to when I was a young adult. I've discovered people think differently when they first enter the adult world than when they have a decade or two of life experience behind them. That was certainly true for me. As life "happened" and challenges piled up, I began to realize I need a little more wisdom! So, what did I do? Fortunately, I pursued wisdom - because I realized I didn't have much on my own. Now, I frequently visit the timeless library of wisdom. Thankfully, it's open anytime - night or day. When I was in college, I took a "Camping - Hiking Course." It fulfilled a basic requirement. Overall, it was a good experience. Interestingly, I learned a lot. However, I remember one bad experience - the weather didn't cooperate. Our group pitched our tent. But it started POURING. Then, the temperature dropped dramatically. It was a freezing, soppy mess. Sadly, our group squeezed into a car and spent the night there - shivering. Unfortunately, our tent nor our car, provided the covering and protection we needed. Thankfully, God's covering and protection doesn't look like that. Read More ... St. Bernard of Claivaux (1090 - 1153 AD) was the founder of the Cistercians, a reform order of the Benedictines, and was one of the Church's true mystics. He opposed the “intentionalism” of the heretic Peter Abelard with his quip: “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” He also opposed an anti-pope, corrected a king, brokered peace in Europe, and had to nuance the doctrine of “just war” in the face of Christian losses in the Crusades. In this heart-opening episode of the Active Life Podcast, host Larry Gaier sits down with Esther, a full-time mom of four who transformed her love of fitness into a purpose-driven coaching career—all while homeschooling her children and managing life on a farm. With raw vulnerability and empowering honesty, Esther shares how she overcame imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and logistical hurdles to build a business that not only changes lives, but sets an example for her kids.Esther recounts her journey from fermentation workshops and DIY side gigs to finding the right mentorship through Active Life. Some years back, I accompanied my grandkids to a park. They were full of energy and expectation. Upon arrival, I gave the usual warning - "Now, be careful as you tackle this playground!" Their response? "O.K. We will!" Well, they climbed equipment, explored, and jumped from tree stump to every conquerable obstacle. The oldest mid-teen made a bounding leap - landing in a wipe-out. Boom! "Are you OK?" "Ya. I'm fine." Then, another bounding leap - another wipe-out! Kersplat! "You still OK?" "Yup, I'm good." Remarkably, yet another attempted giant leap for "teen-kind." Ya-hoo-hoo-hoo! Trip-and-sprawl! Back up again - still grinning. Goodness! That brilliant offspring found every stumbling stone the park offered. Perhaps a successful visit?! In this episode, Cody and Larry explore why Doctors of Physical Therapy (DPTs) are increasingly drawn to Active Life's unique approach. Many DPTs feel constrained by traditional clinical roles that focus primarily on “Activities of Daily Living” (ADLs), such as basic mobility and pain management, rather than supporting clients in achieving higher levels of functional and recreational goals. The conversation highlights how Active Life fills this gap by training DPTs to address “Activities of Daily Interest” (ADIs), which empower clients to live fuller, more active lives. Cody and Larry also discuss the financial and personal frustrations faced by many DPTs. These professionals often enter the field with high hopes for meaningful, fulfilling work, only to find themselves burdened by student loans and confined within clinical structures that limit their earning potential and autonomy. Active Life's model offers DPTs a pathway to more fulfilling work that aligns with their passion for helping clients achieve real, lasting outcomes beyond what typical clinical settings allow. The episode closes with an invitation for DPTs and other clinicians to consider the benefits of joining Active Life. Cody emphasizes that Active Life's curriculum offers DPTs the skills and support needed to transition from a conventional clinical role to a more entrepreneurial, client-centered approach. This shift not only enhances DPTs' professional lives but also allows them to make a lasting impact on their clients' lives.
