In this thought-provoking episode, Jeff and Beth McCord, founders of Your Enneagram Coach, join Lantz Howard to explore the Enneagram as a tool for spiritual growth and self-awareness through the lens of the gospel. Beth unpacks the relevance of the Enneagram for both gospel-believing individuals and seekers, clarifying that it's not a replacement for our identity in Christ, but rather a pathway to better understand our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.Throughout the conversation, the McCords emphasize that embracing your Enneagram type is not about labeling, but about recognizing how God uniquely designed you. They point to the importance of spiritual formation, freedom, and transformation through Christ, urging listeners to look beyond the type and toward the healing and wholeness found in Jesus.Find Beth and Jeff McCord over at www.yourenneagramcoach.comTo receive coaching from Lantz Howard www.lantzhoward.comwww.leadwholeheartedly.com

Ever felt like someone had read your diary because they understood you so well? That's the Enneagram for you—equally enlightening and a tad eerie! In this episode, we're joined by Beth McCord, who is the founder of Your Enneagram Coach, an Enneagram speaker, coach and teacher for over 20 years. Beth breaks down the basics of the Enneagram, explaining that each of the nine points represents a distinct personality type, each with its own lens (or pair of colored sunglasses, if you will) through which they view the world. These types are defined not only by their actions but more importantly, by their core motivations—fear, desire, weakness, and longing. The conversation takes a practical turn as Beth applies Enneagram wisdom to parenting, drawing from her book "Enneagram for Moms." She emphasizes the importance of parents using the Enneagram to work on themselves first, to better understand and guide their children. This episode was packed with enlightening bits and real talk, making the Enneagram a tool not just for self-discovery but for fostering deeper empathy and understanding between people. Hey friends! Welcome to Girls' Night! I'm so excited about today's episode. Today we're talking about how to better understand yourself and your kids using the Enneagram. Since the Enneagram has gained popularity in the past few years, I'm guessing most of you are at least somewhat familiar, but, if you need a refresher, The Enneagram Test is basically a personality assessment to help us know ourselves better and to help us overcome some of the roadblocks in our lives and become the best versions of ourselves. I personally love using the Enneagram because it has helped me understand my heart and my mind and my personality SO MUCH BETTER. But, something I haven't spent as much time on is learning how I can use Enneagram as a tool to better understand my kids and learn how they feel and process things. And that's why I cannot wait to share today's conversation! Our guest for today's episode is my friend, Beth McCord. Beth is an accomplished Enneagram speaker, author, coach, and teacher with over two decades of dedicated experience. Her passion lies in helping individuals rewrite their life stories, empowering them to realize that lasting change and meaningful relationships are possible. Beth's mission led to the creation of the Your Enneagram Coach community—a nurturing space where individuals safely explore the Enneagram. Her most recent book is called, The Enneagram for Moms: See the True Colors of Yourself and Your Children as God Intends, and I cannot wait for you to hear more about it! Summary In this episode, host Kelsey Taylor interviews Beth McCord, co-founder of Your Enneagram Coach, about her career journey as an Enneagram nine and how the Enneagram has influenced her work and parenting. Beth shares insights into the challenges and joys of being a type nine mom, including the struggle to know and communicate her own needs, the importance of understanding and accepting her children's different motivations, and the need to balance guiding her children with allowing them to be their authentic selves. Beth and Kelsey discuss how the Enneagram can be used to understand and improve parenting, and they explore how each Enneagram type approaches parenting and the hopes and dreams they have for their children. They also discuss the concept of emotional sobriety and how parents can achieve it. Beth emphasizes the importance of being curious and open to their individual personalities. She shares personal anecdotes and practical tips for using the Enneagram to enhance parent-child relationships. Takeaways Understanding and accepting your own Enneagram type can help you navigate the challenges and joys of being a parent. As a parent, it's important to recognize and respect your children's different motivations and personalities. Avoid trying to make your children mini-versions of yourself; instead, guide them to be the best version of themselves. Parenting can be a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, as you learn to navigate your own fears, desires, and expectations. Parents should be curious about their children's personalities and avoid typing them at a young age. Using the Enneagram can enhance parent-child relationships and promote understanding and compassion. AWARE: Awareness, Welcoming, Asking, Receiving, and Engaging are key steps to achieving emotional sobriety. Join Beth and I as we talk about: What is working for businesses in 2024 Evaluating what is working and making changes How to maximize our time Choosing new projects What Beth is working on now Best practice for creating online courses Favorite quotes: “There is a lot of being curious, figuring things out, and being flexible. Being flexible is one of the biggest things.” (9:06 audio) “What can we do with the time we have and maximize it? That is the key here.” (12:57 audio) “God created her to be her personality for her kids and their personalities. He didn't make a mistake, so how can we celebrate that, and how can we own our weaknesses but not in a shameful, guilty, judging way? How can we see those and grow from them?” (24:45 audio) “With courses, how can you say the same content and message as quickly, efficiently, practical, and applicable as possible? I would aim for bite-sized lessons.” ( (26:54 audio) Coaching this week: (29:47 audio) Escaping the Mediocrity Trap: A Guide to Getting Unstuck In this week's coaching, I share tips for recognizing mediocrity situations and practical steps to escape the mediocrity trip. The mediocrity trap is one of the trickiest ruts to escape. Unlike terrible situations that, once you are out, often turn into funny stories or proud memories, mediocre situations drag on and become what I call the "Lost Years." The biggest obstacle to getting unstuck is often our own mindset. Don't settle for a life that's just okay. Recommendations: (41:00 audio) This week's recommendation is Spotifiy's free audio books. Gospel Scripture: (all NIV) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:25 (a) “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.” Hebrews 9:22 (b) “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:11 “Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Luke 15:10 says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 1:13–14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Hey hey! We're back for Part 3 of our Enneagram series. I couldn't let this series go by without taking the chance to re-air a conversation I got to have with one of my most popular guests ever, Beth McCord. You may recognize my friend, Beth. She is an Enneagram expert and coach, best-selling author of multiple Enneagram books, and founder of Your Enneagram Coach, the leading platform for all things Enneagram. Beth's enneagram work is all about how to use this amazing tool through the lens of the Gospel. She has written a book for every type, and with her husband, Pastor Jeff McCord, wrote Becoming Us: Using the Enneagram to Create a Thriving, Gospel-Centered Marriage. Listen in as Beth and I talk about: How understanding the Enneagram types as nine different perspectives can grow your compassion for others (especially your spouse) Why assuming is so harmful, Beth calls it assumicide Two ways not to use the Enneagram What has surprised Beth most in all of her work with the Enneagram and couples Beth McCord is an Enneagram expert, world-renowned speaker, coach, and teacher of over 20 years. Beth founded Your Enneagram Coach and co-authored Becoming Us: Using the Enneagram to Create a Thriving, Gospel-Centered Marriage with her husband, Jeff. They live outside Nashville, Tennessee, and have two adult children. Favorite quotes: “The Enneagram is pointing out why we do what we do, our heart condition, and then the Gospel shows us how we will heal it.” “The Enneagram gives us the nine lenses that all types see through. Each of us has on a particular lens.” “Each of the nine types are going to have the things that make them soar and things that make them struggle in life.” “Don't use the Enneagram as a sword or a shield.” “Think of the Enneagram as a flashlight or an x-ray. It is pointing out what is there or what is broken. The x-ray cannot heal you. It just exposes what is wrong and needs healing.” “The Enneagram is this great amazing tool but it's the Gospel that transforms it.” “It means you have resources and the Gospel is always there to heal and restore when we are willing to surrender and depend on him to do the work in and through us.” Teaching Series from Remaining You While Raising Them: Habits The Power of Identity with Our Actions (43:47) Links to great things we discussed: Beth McCord Website Becoming Us: Using the Enneagram to Create a Thriving, Gospel-Centered Marriage Becoming Us Beth McCord Instagram The EnneaDog Guy Ritchie's The Covenant Order your copy of Remaining You While Raising Them here. This week on Real Talk with Rachael I'm talking with author (and certified laughing yoga coach) Ainsley Britain about her book Don't Date a BooBoo Dude. Ainsley is also a Podcast Host and Enneagram Coach, helping young adults embrace their confidence, date healthy, and discover their identity in Christ. With extensive training with Josh Shipp, SheSpeaks, and Your Enneagram Coach, she reaches young adults and spurs them on to healthy, God-filled relationships. Key Points from Our Conversation: Ainsley wrote Don't Date a BooBoo Dude from her experience of putting her worth in the hands of someone who abused her, although she wouldn't identify it as abuse until years later. Her abuser reinforced the lies about her identity that she already believed. Through counseling and prayer, she was able to recognize what was really happening. After doing the work of counseling, EMDR treatments, and spending time with God, she stopped over-apologizing, became more confident, and began asking for what she needed in relationships. There is a broken understanding between mentors and students (or in a parent/child relationship, etc.) that leads to broken empathy. In order to bridge that gap, we have to validate them and help them understand their identity in Christ. It's our responsibility as mentors to teach them the connection between their emotions and actions and processes that allow them to communicate clearly what they feel and need. Let's Get Real Practical: Take the What's Your Body Trying to Tell You Quiz Ask God - How is my mind? Is there anything it's time to process? If these questions bring up a trauma response, please seek the help of a professional. You can find Christian counselors through the NACC at nacconline.org and learn more about EMDR at emdria.org. When I reflect on my personal health journey, I realize it has impacted my work on a deep, deep level, probably on a deeper level than any of the strategies and systems that I've utilized in recent years. I'm a pretty open book, I've talked about my health journey on this show, but today is this attempt to dive deeper into what I've been doing, how I've been feeling, and even more importantly, how it's impacted my work and why I think things finally stuck this time. I know I'm not unique in this human experience of wanting to change something in my life, whether it's my circumstance, my career, relationships, whatever that is, and not being confident enough to follow through or not getting the results that I wanted and just giving up. I think what's super interesting about this topic, especially when it comes to my health journey, is that I'm not one month in or 60 days or 90 days, I've been really focused on this for the entire year, and this is the first time that I've actually stuck to something. And so this episode we're diving into the deep end. Hey hey! Today's episode is a must-listen! Whether you are all-in on the Enneagram or a skeptic, there is so much to consider and learn as Jeff and Beth McCord join me on the show. Listen in as Beth provides us with a framework - sharing how the Enneagram is focused on why you think, feel, and behave in particular ways. Friends, this is so valuable to recognize in our own lives and the lives of those around us. A game changer for sure! We also dive deeper into their soon-to-release book, More Than Your Number, by talking about the importance of moving past often quickly assigned and sometimes stereotypical Enneagram Types. Instead, we can consider how our personality makes us so much more complex than just a number. Pastor Jeff McCord and Beth McCord co-founded Your Enneagram Coach nearly 20 years ago. As an Enneagram coach, teacher, and speaker, Beth is now leading the industry in simplifying the profound truths of the Enneagram from a Biblical perspective. The McCord's passion is to make the Enneagram accessible for everyone, anywhere, so they can experience the transformation and freedom in Christ they long for. Beth and Jeff live outside Nashville, have been married for 23 years, and have two adult children. Listen in to hear all about: Why some Christians are so freaked out about the Enneagram, according to Jeff. How you can use the Enneagram like healthcare providers use an X-ray. Your Enneagram Internal Profile and the five ways becoming aware of your EIP can help you, through God's grace, better lead your internal thoughts. Favorite quotes: ~Anything that is not scriptural or Biblical from God's truth we are just going to throw out but let's take what is still good and true and brings clarity about our heart; not for self help and to work on ourselves or self focus but it's more about how we can align our heart with God. ~Your main type is your driving force. Your main type actually has two parts within it. It has a wounded child and a beloved child. The wounded child is the younger part of your heart that was wounded or traumatized as a child in some form or fashion and it was trying its best to survive. But what's beautiful is that because of the redemption of Christ, when we trust in Him and receive Him as Lord and Savior, not only are we forgiven but his righteousness is poured out on us and God looks at us as if we are Christ. ~We want to help people understand that there's an infinite number of variations for type and it should promote curiosity not stereotyping. ~God created us diverse but to unify and glorify Him. ~ The reason the enneagram is so helpful is because it gives us vocabulary to behave, think and feel the way we do. In this episode I answered this question: I am working on being more self aware and raising my emotional intelligence. What are some negative thought traps do I need to avoid? Most, if not all, self-help tools lead us back to ourselves. But as believers, we're not to live limited by the human condition. We're on a spiritual journey of transformation from the inside out. And one of the tools we can use to understand our motivations in life is the Enneagram. This week, Beth and Jeff McCord, from Your Enneagram Coach, join me for a deeper dive into the world of the Enneagram by moving past the quickly assigned and sometimes stereotypical Enneagram Types to consider and engage your unique, multidimensional personality that makes you so much more complex than just a number.
