Michael Cazayoux is a former CrossFit Games champion, founder of the Brute Strength Podcast (now the Michael Caz Podcast), and co-founder of the nutrition coaching company Working Against Gravity.  I listened to his podcast for years, consuming all the amazing content he put out there, and it was a huge inspiration for me creating this podcast and seeking to interview some amazing people. His latest project is the one I've been the most intrigued by, Soul Searching Adventures.  His tagline reads, "Men Wanted.  For hazardous wilderness journey, physical and emotional hardship guaranteed, many days completed disconnected from society, constant danger, safe return doubtful.  Growth, clarity, peace and connection in case of success."I share a similar passion to Michael's regarding the power that experiences outdoors and in the wilderness can have on us, and I loved getting the chance to hear him explain more about it and hear where this passion of his comes from.We hope you enjoy the episode, and please don't forgot to rate it and subscribe so you don't miss out on new content!  Thank you!http://www.movrs.orghttp://www.instagram.com/movrskidsSupport the Show.Support the Show.

Building yourself up physically (packing on muscle, getting stronger, becoming faster and more powerful, etc.) is a concept you'll hear us preach about at Rebel quite a bit. The type of strength we aren't coaching on a typical day is the strength that you can't physically see – the spiritual strength that exists on the inside. This is why I wanted to have Michael Cazayoux on the podcast to unpack his health and fitness journey because he brings a ton of important information to the table that I think goes unnoticed in our industry. From winning multiple team titles at the CrossFit Games, to working as a strength and conditioning coach for LSU, to co-owning a fitness company, Brute Strength, to running Working Against Gravity with his wife, to now running Soul Searching Adventures where he takes groups of men out on epic outdoor adventures to do deep introspective work together... All to say, Michael's lived and learned a lot.  The meat and potatoes of our conversation are surrounding fitness, health, and strength and how the three have evolved with him over time. We've all have had moments of reflection where we feel lost when transitioning from one phase of life to another, especially when our health and wellness are involved. Listen in to hear Michael unpack what it means to have an identity shift, what that actually looks like for a former athlete, and exercises you can do to become more intentional and gain insight for yourself. What You'll Learn in this Episode: [08:07] The story behind how Michael got started with Soul Searching Adventures [09:22] How Michael thinks about health and fitness today compared to earlier days as a strength and conditioning coach and while competing in CrossFit [12:27] The identify shift you experience when you stop being a high-level, competitive athlete [13:21] The new values Michael has on fitness [17:48] Being self aware enough when your goals and priorities have shifted from one phase to the next [19:27] What it means to transcend something [20:36] The ability to get out and express yourself in nature [22:31] Using physical challenges to gain insight in other areas of life [23:41] Two challenges for a former athlete in a reflective space [25:37] Exercises to become more intentional and feel more comfortable in reflection [31:24] Michael's main goal to deliver in his Soul Searching Adventures Links: Explore our free training samples here: https://www.rebel-performance.com/training-templates/ (https://www.rebel-performance.com/training-templates/) Follow Michael Cazayoux here: https://www.instagram.com/michaelcazayoux/ (https://www.instagram.com/michaelcazayoux/) Follow James Cerbie here: https://www.instagram.com/jamescerbie/ (https://www.instagram.com/jamescerbie/) Check out Michael's podcast here: https://apple.co/3tI0a42 (https://apple.co/3tI0a42) Subscribe to Michael's newsletter here: https://mcaz.substack.com/ (https://mcaz.substack.com/) Check out Soul Searching Adventures here: https://soulsearchingadventures.com (https://soulsearchingadventures.com) Follow Rebel here: https://www.instagram.com/therebelperformance/ (https://www.instagram.com/therebelperformance/) Join our Rebel FB group here: https://bit.ly/3KfGk6A (https://bit.ly/3KfGk6A) Want to learn more about the Rebel Performance Training Team? Hello beautiful people On today's podcast we have the beautifully vulnerable and open, Mike Cazayoux. Mike is a back-to-back CrossFit World Cup Champion, and entrepreneur, co-founding Brute Strength, a company that specialises in developing physical training programs, having himself personally trained A-list athletes, which he sold in 2018 and moved into the role of President of Working Against Gravity, and most recently started a new business, called Soul Searching Adventures. What I personally love about this podcast is Mike's genuine transparency. We speak about some pretty raw and real topics, such as his experience with addiction that started at a very young age stemming from an intense desire to fit in. I really honour Mike's openness in this discussion, as he shares that at points in his life he was really ashamed of who he was and his behaviour. But like he so timely shared, in the words of Brene Brown, shame only grows in secrecy, silence and judgment. We speak about being a CrossFit Champion and the identity crisis that tends to evidently follow any form of sports achievement-based lifestyle change, and we speak about Soul Searching Adventures, and his full circle experience from being a young kid who initially participated in wilderness therapy as part of rehab, to now providing men with an unforgettable adventurous experience that teaches survival skills, provides greater clarity and peace of mind, and the opportunity of bonding with other men. Mike ends with two important questions for reflection which I encourage us all to actively take part in.If you are enjoying this podcast, please rate, review, share with friends and family, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and tune in to the lovely Mike Cazayoux.Connect with MeMindset Coaching | https://www.jennahlouise.com.auInstagram Personal | https://www.instagram.com/jennah_louiseConnect with MikeInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/michaelcazayoux Website | https://michaelcaz.com/

This week I sat down with our Croga Nutrition Coaching Staff (Cody, Meghan and Stephanie) to answer a bunch of questions form our newest set of clients and some frequently asked questions we’ve been asked over and over during our first year of nutrition coaching. The questions were very well rounded, including, how to weigh and measure food properly, how to get more protein, how much water to drink daily, carbs versus net carbs and how to log these foods and much more. And since there were four of us answering every question, the answers provided great insight and lots of different tips and tricks that should help you find something that works for you.We hope you enjoy the episode and if you are interested in one-on-one nutrition coaching or have additional questions you’d like us to answer, shoot us a DM on Instagram at @CrogaNutrition or shoot us an email to Nutrition@CrogaFitness.com and we’ll get your more info or get your questions answered in our next podcast.———————————Questions & Time Stamps3:45 - #1 - I currently find myself with extra carbs towards the end of the day. What are some good (maybe pre/post workout) snack ideas?9:40 - #2 - I would love a good high protein breakfast option that doesn’t include eating 6+ egg whites. I have mixed it up with “oatless oatmeal” but I get tired of it quick. Got any suggestions?16:28 - #3 - My clothes don't fit me as well anymore... With shelter in place, it doesn't matter as much (plus baggy is coming back in style). That said, do I buy clothes that fit me now? Or wait until I hit my target goal? And should I keep my current clothes in case I need them in the future?24:25 - #4 - Is it best to have more carbs earlier in the day or is the goal to split macros between 3 meals?29:10 - #5 - If you're cooking something with oil, such as roasted sweet potatoes with olive oil, for example, how do you count the oil - as the full amount used or a portion given that not all of the oil is absorbed by the cooked food?30:46 - #6 - How much water should a person drink?36:19 - #7 - Net carbs vs total carbs. I have tortillas that are 30 gr of carbs a piece but 25 of those are fiber and only 5 are considered “net” carbs (starch I presume). How should I log them? Net or gross?42:25 - #8 - If you go wildly over carbs or protein one day (ie 20-30percent over your macros because you ate out) are you best off doing which of the following: (1) Just writing that day off and continuing with the same macros the next day, (2) Trying to trade protein for carbs or carbs for protein if you can in any remaining meals. Ie if you are over protein by 15g then eating 15g less of carbs that day if you can (3) Compensating the next day by decreasing what you went over in (Ie if you went over in protein having a little less the next day)50:23 - #9 - I’m regularly over on my carbs and fat, but I think that’s because I eat out too often. I assume people who know what they are doing plan ahead to hit their macros? Is that what I should plan to do to be successful? And similar to Whitney, if you’re way off, what’s the best approach for the rest of the day or the day following?60:14 - #10 - We meal prepped but I don’t know how to count it. “When you think of the CrossFit community, you think of people who are going to the gym to challenge themselves, to be better than they were the day before, and that is such a cool part of the community, and it's what I fell in love with.” - Cole Sager   6-time CrossFit Games athlete Cole Sager wants to be known as the kindest person you'll ever meet, and in doing so, he hopes to motivate others to be the kindest, hardest-working version of themselves. Growing up in a small town in Washington, Cole played sports throughout his youth and aspired to be an NFL player.  In 2009 he joined the Washington University Huskies as an invited walk-on, and was one of only a handful of true freshmen to play.  At the end of his freshman year, he was awarded the Scout Special Teams Player of The Year award, an honor that would change the trajectory of his life.  The honor was awarded based on hard work, and receiving it ignited Cole's drive to always be the hardest worker on the field. As Cole neared graduation, his goals shifted from playing professional football to becoming a professional CrossFit athlete. Within months of his first CrossFit workout he qualified for Regionals, and just one year after that he established himself a serious contender when he placed first at the 2014 North West Regional and 17th in his rookie appearance at the CrossFit Games. Eventually, Cole took a leap of faith, resigned from his job as a loan originator, and began training full-time in his home garage gym.  With the support of his wife, Genasee, and his coach, Ben Bergeron, he has built a reputation as one of CrossFit's most consistent athletes.  Career highlights so far include placing 5th at the 2016 CrossFit Games, 2nd at the 2019 Fittest in Cape Town sanctional, and 3rd at the 2019 Rogue Invitational, but according to Cole, one of his biggest achievements was winning the Spirit of the Games award in 2017, an honor that recognized all the hard work he puts into developing his character. I was excited to catch up with Cole to learn more about what drives the intensity behind his training, the qualities he values in himself and others, and why he believes developing character leads to athletic excellence. In this episode we discuss: How Cole is approaching the 2020 CrossFit Games How he stays focused on his goals in the face of doubt Cole's collegiate football career Letting go of NFL aspirations and falling in love with CrossFit Cole's experience of getting to his first CrossFit Games How he started working with Ben Bergeron as a coach The qualities of a good coach How Cole has developed as a person over the course of his CrossFit career How he stays driven to train even on days he doesn't feel like it The importance of accepting help from others to hold yourself accountable How Cole's wife, Genasee, is a vital part of his team A typical day for Cole and Genasee Three things Cole does on a regular basis that have the biggest positive impact on his health One thing he thinks could have a big impact on his health, but he has a hard time implementing What a healthy life looks like to Cole You can follow Cole on his website and on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Adee Cazayoux is the Founder and CEO of Working Against Gravity (WAG), an online nutrition coaching program with a mission to transform lives. Having made a name for herself in nutrition, Cazayoux has worked with elite athletes such as Katrin Davidsdottir, Jessica Lucero and Tia Clair-Toomey, just to spotlight a few. Adee is lifelong learner with a Bachelors in Honors Psychology and a Masters in Teaching and is working toward a Masters in Nutrition and Human Performance. Beyond being an entrepreneur and student of the nutritional sciences, Adee is also an accomplished athlete, having competed in the National Pro Grid League, CrossFit Open and won the Bronze Medal in the 2016 Canadian National Weightlifting Championships.   Michael Cazayoux, president of WAG, specializes in helping his team and clients “get out of their own way” by identifying self-limiting beliefs and ineffective behaviors. In fact, the back-to-back CrossFit World Cup Champion is no stranger to this unique process of self-examination. At the impressionable age of 17, Cazayoux confronted his own limiting beliefs and ineffective behaviors head on, attending drug rehabilitation to overcome his addiction to opiates. It's this experience that inspired a love of health and fitness on a personal level, which later translated into a passion for coaching and mentoring inside and out of the gym. Prior to joining WAG, Michael cofounded Brute Strength, an online fitness training company, where he continues to contribute to operations and remains as the podcast host.   Adee and Michael live in Austin with their dog, Otis and welcomed their first child this year.

This week I sat down with the Croga CrossFit 2019 Member of the Year and one of our Croga Nutrition Coaches, Meghan Pierce for a chat.Meghan had one hell of a successful year of self improvement that included about 60 lbs of weight loss, tons of athletic improvement and a complete shift in mindset. She attributes a lot of her success to establishing new habits and changing her internal monologue about the way she perceives or responds to things that would have previously sent her on a month long negative path.Meghan’s story has been incredible to watch and I’ve loved seeing her take the next step in her journey by becoming a coach because she has so much knowledge to share that it would be unfortunate if she kept it all to herself.I hope you enjoy this episode and pick up something valuable. I’ve already taken some of what she shared and implemented it into my own life and I’ve got her favorite book, Atomic Habits, at the top of my list to read next.Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lionheartedpodcast/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LionheartedPodcast/Follow Meghan on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mlp111283/Follow Croga Nutrition Powered by WAG on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/croganutrition/ Music: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music

This week I sat down with the CEO and Founder of Working Against Gravity, Adee Cazayoux. We started off by having some fun chatting about kids because she is 24 weeks pregnant, which is super exciting. Then, since Croga is a WAG nutrition Affiliate and the last time I interviewed her their Affiliate Program was still in the works, we talked about the whole process of building that program out, getting it to the world and how it’s goingAnd then we dove into the subject that everyone was here for and the elephant in the room, the Coronavirus or COVID-19 and how it has effected her life as an individual, as a business owner and as a coach.Adee has a very unique perspective on this whole thing because she has been teaching people to be healthy for 6-plus years through her nutrition business and she’s also been working from home that whole time, so she had TONS of awesome tips on nutrition, cooking, staying social, keeping your mood positive, and some tricks to being productive and making the most of working from home, which I learned a ton from.I hope you all enjoy our chat as much as I did and let me know how myself, the Croga Staff, Adee or the WAG staff can help you be successful and improve your lives while we’re in this unfamiliar territory.Follow us on Instagram & Facebook @LionheartedPodcastFollow Adee on Instagram: http://instagram.com/adeecazayouxFollow Working Against Gravity on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/workingagainstgravity/Follow Croga Nutrition Powered by WAG on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/croganutrition/ Music: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music

Michael Cazayoux, co-founder of Brute, specializes in helping his clients “get out of their own way” by identifying self-limiting beliefs and ineffective behaviors. Beyond developing Brute, the young entrepreneur is most proud of his marriage to Adee Cazayoux, his partner in love, life and fitness. Together the two gym-fanatics live in Austin, Texas where Michael also contributes to Adee's online nutrition company, Working Against Gravity. In his free time, Cazayoux enjoys backpacking, snowboarding, woodworking, bow shooting, hunting and creating enormous value in people's lives — especially his closest family and friends. Brute started completely by accident. Matt Bruce, co-founder of Brute, asked me if I wanted to work with him to do some one-on-one programming for a few CrossFit athletes when I was a strength and conditioning coach at LSU. In between training student athletes, I would go in the small office they had for us and put together programs for CrossFit athletes. I'd create the general outline of the program and then tell Matt where to put the weightlifting. In 2014, I moved back to Utah and we decided to bring our small operation to a larger scale/platform. We teamed up with an old teammate of mine, Tommy Hackenbruck, who owned a gym I competed for, Ute Crossfit. One day Matt Bruce had the clever idea of combining Ute Crossfit with his name and Brute was born.   Website: www.iCoachNutrition.com Instagram: @icoachnutrition Facebook: iCoach Nutrition YouTube: iCoach Nutrition Twitter: @JustinNutrition LinkedIn: Justin Murphy Email: justin@icoachnutrition.com
