This week we are talking about overcoming, through the power of doing the Lord's fast and praying. We will discuss the benefits of fasting.The Lord's Fast - Isaiah 58 verse 5 - (Amplified Classic Version) - 5 Is such a fast as yours what I have chosen, a day for a man to humble himself with sorrow in his soul? [Is true fasting merely mechanical?] Is it only to bow down his head like a bulrush and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him [to indicate a condition of heart that he does not have]? Our soul (mind, will and emotions) is not transformed when we give our life to Christ. Our free will choice has full control over when it wants to begin transformation. This process only begins once we accept the Word of God (the Bible) as the Truth, and do it, not just hearing it, deceiving ourselves. While the portion of our mind that isn't yet renewed is carnal, and at enmity (war) with God, He still loves us nonetheless and wants us to be set free from our old understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).The soul that has been rescued by the Father through His Son Jesus, from out of the Kingdom of Darkness and into God's Own Kingdom has now been set free from sin. That is because the Christian is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), which is not subjected to the law of sin and death any more. That old self was buried in Christ. The Christian now has to make sure they continue to seek Jesus and remain in Christ, such that they are protected from slipping back into the world from which they were delivered from, and from which they were conformed to before. God created you to be you, the new you, not the fallen you. God has plans to prosper you, to give you a hope and a future, not to harm you. We used to sin before we were born again due to our fallen sinful nature. We were originally created in the image of God but our spirits fell when we obeyed Satan instead of God in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:6). For the born again Christian who made the decision for Christ, God has replaced the fallen spirit with a new regenerated one. For those who love the Lord [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits He has bestowed], what eye has not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man, [all that] God has prepared (made and keeps ready) for them. Exodus 34:6 - The Lord! the Lord! a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness and truth.How important it is for us to not depend on our own understanding of God's nature unless that understanding has come from entering into a relationship with Him. A child comes home to his or her parents, their clothes full of mud as they were playing with friends in the world. The door of the family's home is wide open, never closed to those seeking rescue. The loving parents, so pleased to see their child made it home, love on their child by giving them a hot bath and a shower. The parents then feed their child a hot meal so he or she becomes nourished and becomes immune to illnesses.Such is the love of our Heavenly Father and His Son, Christ Jesus. We are full of mud, walking aimlessly in this world, desperately in need of saving by the Rescuer, Jesus Himself. We are burdened by the chains of sin, hurts in our heart, depression, addictions, our body in need of healing.The Lord is always ready and willing to help us. Instead of waiting for us to come to Him first, he makes Himself available and knocks on the door of our heart to let us know he is there (Revelation 3:20). But it is up to us to open the door of our heart to let Him in so he can help and grow and heal us. Based on the love of Jesus, He would be saying something similar to “Come to Me as you are. I know all things you have done and have been through. Nothing surprises me. This is why I came and gave my life for you, so that you would not die but live an everlasting life if you choose to believe and receive me in your heart. I have paid for you to be made a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). My Father and I love you so much (John 3:16). Just believe in me, I will wash your sins away as far as the east is from the west. (Psalm 103:12) I shall remember your sins no more (Hebrews 8:12), and neither should you remind yourself of them once you confess them to Me. (1 John 1:9.)”The Lord washes us clean in our consciences (1 John 1:9). He offers us daily manna by way of His Word, His Scriptures. (Matthew 4:4). Again, we decide whether to eat of this Word for our soul desperately needs it. We decide whether or not to spend time with Jesus in a right relationship that He has already paid for us to have with the Father through Him. It is our choice, as with every decision our free will is able to make in our life on earth. The repercussions of ‘yes' and ‘no' on these decisions have a positive or negative effect in our daily lives.'Come As You Are.' It is the invitation from the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father but by Him (Jesus). Therefore, it stands to reason we should focus our hearts on Jesus and the Father, with guidance and leading of His Holy Spirit. It doesn't matter how much mud you have on you; Jesus wants to clean you off as you decide to allow him into your home. His arms open wide ready to receive you as you decide to receive Him and begin to love Him.This program briefly discusses life without a relationship with Jesus, and spends much of the rest of the program on what it looks like to spend time focusing our heart on Jesus. The precursor to putting on the Armor of God is how we should treat others.As children, we should obey our parents in the Lord as His representative, and from that scripture says we will have a long life on the earth.That, as Fathers we are not to irritate and provoke our children to anger, but to rear them tenderly in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord (we know this is not happening nearly as much as it needs to be in society and across the world.)As servants we are to be obedient to whoever are our physical masters and with a right motive of heart. Not doing good things because we know they are watching us, but doing them as a service to Christ Himself. Doing good for anyone causes a reward from the Lord.As physical masters, for them to act on the same principle toward them and give up threatening and using violent and abusive words. That God as our Master is no respecter of persons.We begin to talk about drawing strength from the Lord and the action words of these scriptures. That His strength is not automatic. We have to actively draw on it. Without Him we cannot be on the best path. The devil therefore lures us to more familiar activities and distractions. We get to choose what we should watch, listen to, and who to be around. Our soul is being affected in a positive or negative way, moment by moment every day.Our old carnal way is what we are used to. It is what we used to enjoy. Things are different now that we are born again but the old man that died can be resurrected if we do not guard our mind from becoming re-conformed to the world (Romans 12:2 warns us against this.) Therefore there is a constant battle for our attention. Both God and Satan want our focus. God, for our own good because He loves us and knows the dangers of you slipping back into Satan's darkness. Satan wants to keep you from becoming transformed by understanding the Truth of the Word of God. Hence, the choice each hour, each minute is yours. What will you feed your soul?
