Dr. Dallara-Marsh is a neurologist who specializes in working with children. She attended an accelerated BS/MD program, completing undergraduate studies at Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education and then a medical degree at SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn. After those 7 years, she trained in pediatrics at Westchester Medical Center. To further her expertise within the field, Dr. Dallara-Marsh completed fellowships in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology and Epilepsy at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia. Some of Dr. Dallara-Marsh's interests include child neurology, epilepsy, and palliative care. She currently works in a private-practice setting in New Jersey. Dr. Sinha is a neurosurgical resident currently at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from Tufts University, Dr. Sinha attended Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where he was an active member of the admissions committee. There he was inducted as a junior member into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society as well as the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Sinha took a research year during medical school as well, performing neurosurgery research at Columbia University. As a resident in neurosurgery, Dr. Sinha sees patients with diseases that affect the entire nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. In his presentation, he details two cases involving a ruptured intracranial aneurysm and a meningioma compressing the spinal cord. Dr. Bradshaw is a family medicine doctor who has practiced in a variety of settings over the course of the last several decades. He attended Baylor University for his undergraduate degree and became a CPA before deciding to attend medical school. After completing his pre-med requirements, he attended the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston and then completed training in family medicine. He has worked in private practice in the community, academic medical centers, nursing homes, emergency departments, and more. He has also served on the medical school admissions committee at UT Southwestern. Dr. Tang is a Hospitalist at Boston Children's Hospital specializing in pediatric hematology-oncology. She attended Upstate Medical University for medical school and the University of Connecticut for residency. As a physician-scientist, she has been actively involved in research, presented findings at scientific meetings, and prepared manuscripts for scientific publication. In addition to her medical training, she obtained a Master's degree in Biotechnology at Columbia University and a Master's Degree in Clinical and Translational Investigation at New York University. Dr. Sun is currently a plastic surgery resident at Johns Hopkins. He attended Duke University for his undergraduate education before moving on to medical school at the Yale School of Medicine. He had extensive experience in biomedical/tissue engineering which led him to pursue plastic surgery as a career path. Much of Dr. Sun's day is spent in the operating room treating patients with a variety of conditions warranting surgical repair. As a plastic surgeon, he uses techniques such as grafts and flaps and has a detailed knowledge of human anatomy. Outside of his training, Dr. Sun enjoys cooking, photography, and hiking. Dr. Andalib is a gastroenterologist who specializes in advanced endoscopy. He attended Ross University School of Medicine, followed by three years of internal medicine residency at Georgetown University Hospital. After residency, he trained as a GI fellow at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and later as an interventional gastroenterology fellow at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Currently, Dr. Andalib is the Director of Endoscopic Surgery at Mount Sinai South Nassua's Center for Interventional Endoscopy. He is also an assistant professor in the Division of Gastroenterology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Lipsit is a recently retired radiologist who received his MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He spent the first part of his career at the George Washington University School of Medicine, in academic medicine. Later on, he became a partner in a radiology private practice. Dr. Lipsit specialized in Women's Imaging. As a radiologist, Dr. Lipsit performed diagnostic imaging procedures – like MRI, CT, PET, and ultrasound, reviewed information gathered from these imaging procedures, and communicated the results to patients and other physicians. The collaborative nature of radiology – constantly discussing results and talking with other healthcare providers – is one of Dr. Lipsit's favorite aspects of it. Take the quiz here
Dr. Williams is a retired obstetrician/gynecologist who has spent years tutoring and mentoring students as well. She attended college at Swarthmore College before attending Thomas Jefferson Medical College for medical school. During her career, Dr. Williams worked in family practice before completing a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and spending several decades in that field. Much of Dr. Williams' life has been devoted to helping students. Besides having raised and supported three of her own children through professional, Dr. Williams has tutored students through the Chester Upward Bound Program. Dr. Munjuluri is a child psychiatry fellow who took a non-traditional path to medicine. After graduating from Rutgers University with degrees in English and Biological Sciences, he taught through Teach for America and worked as a college counselor. A decade later, he attended medical school at University of California – San Francisco and additionally earned a Master's from University of California – Berkeley. Psychiatry was the natural fit for Dr. Munjuluri, who works with adolescents and their families on a daily basis. His presentation highlights a case of depression in a teenager and describes the biopsychosocial model of health. He also answers questions about his decision to pursue medicine and child psychiatry, highlighting some of the challenges he faced and providing advice to pre-meds. Dr. Lindgren is a second year anesthesiology resident at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in neurobiology and later attended medical school at Texas Tech. Her additional education includes an MBA from the Rawls College of Business. In her life as an anesthesiology resident, Dr. Lindgren spends time in both the pre-op clinic and also in the operating room during various surgeries. She enjoys being able to perform procedures, administer medications, and take care of patients from the start to end of their experience in surgery. Dr. Lindgren talks about the different fields within anesthesiology and provides advice for pre-med students interested in a career in medicine and anesthesia. Dr. Lajevardi is a dermatologist who currently practices in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After attending college at Northwestern, she went to Boston University for a master's in medical sciences. Later, Dr. Lajevardi earned her medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and trained in dermatology at Brown University. Dr. Lajevardi enjoys treating patients with a wide variety of dermatologic concerns. Her practice includes medical, cosmetic, and pediatric dermatology as well as cutaneous and laser surgery. In her presentation, she discusses cases of acne, psoriasis, and their different treatment modalities. She loves being able to diagnose patients and to treat their skin conditions as well. Dr. Winterton is an orthopedic surgeon with a specialization in hand surgery. He graduated from Brigham Young University and performed research at the National Institutes of Health, earning him distinction as a Goldwater Scholar and Tylenol Future Care Scholar. For medical school, Dr. Winterton attended the University of Pennsylvania and trained afterward at Stanford, the University of Pennsylvania, and Rush University. His career involves taking care of patients with arm injuries, ranging from children born without a thumb to weight-lifters with torn triceps muscles. Dr. Winterton sees patients in the clinic and also in the operating room, splitting his time between both. When he is not operating, Dr. Winterton enjoys traveling and has visited almost 40 countries. Dr. Mehta is a cardiology fellow who trained for 3 years as an internal medicine resident and 1 year as a chief medical resident. Dr. Haider is an interventional cardiologist in Massachusetts and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMass. He received his medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and went on to an internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center. He completed a cardiology fellowship at North Shore/LIJ-Hofstra and spent an additional year receiving further training in interventional and endovascular cardiology at Weill-Cornell. On a weekly basis, Dr. Haider takes care of patients in both the office setting as well as in the cath lab, performing procedures such as coronary artery stenting for acute heart attacks, to TAVR procedures to replace the aortic valve. He also has a role in performing research and teaching cardiology fellows and students. Dr. Thomas is a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician who specializes in spinal cord injury. She took a non-traditional path to medical school by first majoring in mathematics and political philosophy as an undergraduate at Brown University, after which she earned her Master's in Public Health at Columbia University. When Dr. Thomas decided to pursue medicine, she completed a post-bac program and attended Stony Brook for medical school. Since then, she has trained at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital in Chicago and later at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida. Currently, Dr. Thomas works as a physiatrist in the inpatient setting, helping patients with a variety of injuries with a focus on spinal cord injuries. Her patients are recovering from trauma such as gun-shot wounds or health conditions like strokes. Dr. Ho is a fourth-year radiation oncology resident at the University of Arizona. He attended University of California – Davis as an undergraduate and later earned his medical degree from the UC Davis School of Medicine. During his third year of medical school, Dr. Ho decided he would pursue a career in radiation oncology and was able to gain experience and dedicate himself to research in the field. Now as a resident, Dr. Ho helps treat patients with cancer using radiation therapy. During his presentation, he explains how these treatments are planned and performed. He also discusses a few interesting cases that demonstrate the utility of radiation oncology in the targeting of various cancers. Dr. McCrary is an otolaryngology (pronounced otto-larin-gol-igist) resident in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah. She received her undergraduate degree, Master's in Public Health, and medical degree at the University of Arizona. As a medical student, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Society. After she completes her training in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. McCrary plans to further specialize in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Surgery. As an otolaryngologist, Dr. McCrary deals with disease and pathology that affects everything “above the clavicles”. She describes the specialty as a perfect mix of surgery and clinic. After discussing her typical workday and subspecialties that otolaryngologists can pursue, she presents three interesting cases. In the first case, she describes a slide tracheoplasty – a procedure that widens the trachea. The second case involves an incredible surgical procedure that uses skin and vasculature from the forehead to conceal a large piece of skin removed from a patient's face. Dr. Vanessa Smith is a practicing neuropathologist. She received her MD from the Mayo Clinic. Following completion of her internship at the Mayo Clinic, she returned to her hometown of Lexington and completed an Anatomic Pathology residency, followed by a Neuropathology fellowship at the University of Kentucky. Academically, she has presented her research at several national and international meetings and has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Singer is a fourth year General Surgery resident at The Ohio State University. Using surgical procedures, she treats all different types of conditions, ranging from appendicitis to severe trauma. During her surgical rotations she fell in love with the operating room and never looked back. Her day to day life as a general surgery resident includes in-patient rounding, performing different types of operations, and participating in skills/simulation training. In addition, she spends 1 day a week in a clinic setting, seeing new and postoperative patients. In his daily life as an ophthalmologist, Dr. Kelly treats a large number of eye pathologies including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. In this session, Dr. Kelly discusses other eye disorders including cataracts and strabismus, and explains several treatments including medications, lasers, and surgery. He mentions that a large number of ophthalmologists further specialize to allow them to take care of the intricacies related to the eye as best as possible.
