Rarely is one of our shows as intricately fascinating and self-disclosing to our guest and ourselves that we cannot adequately describe all that we covered, all that we learned, and all that we began integrating anew into our knowledge as the interview evolved.   Our guest, physician Juliette Engel, was a captive, slave, and experimental subject controlled by the CIA from early childhood until age sixteen. Acting on her own, she then escaped the CIA/MKUltra house of devil worship — a subject we will let her tell you about in the interview. She began her new life as a college student, and to manage her severe post-traumatic stress, she developed amnesia for her horrendous past. As a therapist and researcher, I know this happens, but it requires a powerful mind like Dr. Engel to accomplish it and ultimately to flourish.   Dr. Engel is part of a growing number of people coming forth about their experiences as victims of CIA experiments, which in part were training her to become a part of what I have decided to call, “the global community of abusers without conscience,” a powerful aspect of the global predators and their unholy empires.   Adding incredible background to her personal testimony, she sent us in advance a document released from the National Security Archive on December 23, 2024. The ominous title is “CIA Behavioral Control Experiments Focus of New Scholarly Collection.”   The CIA documents confirm many of Dr. Engel's memories, which only began to unfold much later, after a life of medical reform work in Russia.   Confirming Our Own Experiences with the Deep State and CIA   One huge confirmation for me and Ginger is how much the CIA was indeed focused on defending and supporting the very kind or torturous and inhuman psychiatric treatments that I began openly opposing in the early 1970s, including lobotomy and other forms of psychosurgery and electroshock (ECT) which I have described as an electrical closed-head lobotomy.   Another insight for me was the similarity between the CIA agents and collaborators, as described in the CIA documents, and the global predators we have described in our book, COVID-19 and the Global Predators: We Are the Prey. This is the same profile we continue to explore in our recent columns about America's four current empires: the Western Global Empire, the Eastern Global Chinese Communist Empire, the Russian Empire, and the Caliphate Muslim Empire.   These predators, across a broad spectrum of activities, are primarily motivated by a lust for power over other human beings. They also desire wealth, but mostly as a tool for gaining power. What drives them is the desire to exert power over as many people as possible within their sphere, whether it is a political party, a criminal cabal or conspiracy, a government agency, a nation, an empire, or a global governance.   If they did not lust for power, they would not succeed in their goal of dominating, controlling, exploiting, enslaving, or killing as many people as possible. They must also possess extreme cunning and shrewdness to be able to manipulate and exploit so many people and to compete for power among so many other violent, cunning people. Probably above all else, they must be masters of conspiracy, able to seduce or intimidate others into helping them pursue their evil aims.   These predators must lack identification with the people within their own family,  group, nation, or empire, because seizing and growing enormous power usually requires, as history demonstrates, killing competitors in their own families and their own inner circles of co-conspirators, as well as millions of their own people, as demonstrated by apex global predators from Alexander “the Great” to Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and the current leaders of Communist China.   These predators must not allow themselves to genuinely love anyone, because such entanglements and feelings would check or inhibit the kind of evil conduct required for fulfilling their primary lust for power. Ultimately, they must not identify with anyone but themselves.   The following excerpts are taken from the vastly important document that our guest, Juliette Engel, MD, first drew to our attention, “CIA Behavior Control Experiments Focus of New Scholarly Collection.”  [The document lacks page numbers, but the excerpts can be located by means of searching the document:]   Excerpt 1 from the CIA Documents   Asked whether the CIA had tried to identify “techniques of producing retrograde amnesia,” Gottlieb said it was something that they “talked about,” but that he could not “remember any specific projects or specific research mounted in response to that question.” Asked if the CIA ever used “psychosurgery research projects,” Gottlieb said his “remembrance is that they did.”   Excerpt 2   The elevation of Allen Dulles to deputy director of central intelligence in 1951 led to an expansion of BLUEBIRD programs under a new name, ARTICHOKE, and under the direction of Gottlieb at TSS. The new program was to include, among other projects, the development of “gas guns” and “poisons,” and experiments to test whether “monotonous sounds,” “concussion,” “electroshock,” and “induced sleep” could be used as a means to gain “hypnotic control of an individual.”[5]   Excerpt 3   Another prominent MKULTRA “cutout” foundation, the Human Ecology Society, was run by Cornell Medical Center neurologist Dr. Harold Wolff, who wrote an early study of communist brainwashing techniques for Allen Dulles and later partnered with the CIA to develop a combination of drugs and sensory deprivation that could be used to erase the human mind. Among the most extreme MKULTRA projects funded through Wolff's group were the infamous “depatterning” experiments conducted by Dr. D. Ewen Cameron at the Allan Memorial Institute, a psychiatric hospital at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Cameron's methods combined induced sleep, electroshocks, and “psychic driving,” under which drugged subjects were psychologically tortured for weeks or months in an effort to reprogram their minds.   Except 4   While no new techniques had been discovered, presently known mind control techniques described in the attachment include the use of LSD and other drugs, hypnosis, the use of the polygraph, neurosurgery, and electric shock treatments. However, field testing of these techniques has been handicapped by the “inability to provide the medical competence for a final evaluation and for such field testing as the evaluation indicates. Repeated efforts to recruit medical personnel have failed and until recently the CIA Medical Staff has not been in a position to assist.”   Excerpt 5   The response from TSS lists 17 “materials and methods” that the Chemical Division was working to develop, including:   *substances that “promote illogical thinking,” materials that would “render the induction of hypnosis easier” or “enhance its usefulness,” substances that would help individuals to endure “privation, torture and coercion during interrogation” and attempts at ‘brainwashing,'” *“materials and physical methods” to “produce amnesia” and “shock and confusion over extended periods of time,” substances that would “produce physical disablement, including paralysis, *substances that “alter personality structure” or that “produce ‘pure' euphoria with no subsequent let-down,” and a “knockout pill” for use in surreptitious druggings and to produce amnesia, among other things. [Asterisks and bold added]   Excerpt 6   Gibbons was not fully clear on how the CIA obtained LSD, but most of it came from the Eli Lilly & Company, according to this memo, which “apparently makes a gift of it to CIA.”  [bold added. There are many mentions in the report citing Eli Lilly as the source of massive of amounts of LSD which the CIA then inflicted upon Americans, sometimes as experiments and sometimes for financial gain.]   End of Excerpts   In the current release of CIA documents, many well-known government officials and universities are named as supporting and collaborating with MKUltra and other ghastly CIA experiments. Particularly stunning to me, the CIA bought a new wing for the Georgetown University Hospital, in return for which the CIA was given a special “safe house” inside the medical wing where they were free to inflict their wanton will on involuntary experimental subjects with supportive help from the hospital.   One More Step in Facing the Evil Within   These quotes confirm what I had long suspected and had only limited data to confirm — that the CIA and other government agencies are very protective and supportive of psychosurgery (lobotomy) and electroshock treatment (ECT). They want to research and apply these gross methods of damaging the human brain and mind to facilitate interrogation, to erase memories, to change personalities, and to make people more obedient and robotic. They also want them widely used in society to dumb down and render passive as many people as possible on the way to building the global slave state.   During this interview, we began to more deeply appreciate the involvement of the Deep State in psychiatry and psychology and the strength of their opposition to my reform work going back to the early 1970s. My earliest reform efforts focused on these two treatments, psychosurgery and then electroshock, and finally matured into seeing all psychiatric treatment as an assault on the brain and mind.   In various books and scientific articles, Ginger and I have been pointing to federal agencies pushing lobotomy (DOJ, NIMH), pushing electroshock (CIA, FDA), and pushing psychoactive drugs (FDA, CIA, NIMH, NIH, Department of Education, and others.   Our greatest confrontation with federal agencies came during an intense few years when we educated and organized people to shut down a massive U.S. interagency eugenical program to go into the inner cities to identify supposed biological and genetic causes of violence in black children and youth. The goal was ultimately to justify the widespread diagnosing and drugging of these children, including highly remunerative drugs like antidepressants and stimulants. I had already encountered outright racism, with neurosurgeons and psychiatrists advocating in print for the use of psychosurgery to control the leaders of black uprisings in the 1960s and early 1970s.   We completely defeated the massive eugenics project, causing the cancellation of a major conference and many research projects. We authored a book about it, The War Against Children of Color (1994), which addresses numerous Deep State actors such as the CDC, Department of Justice, FBI, NIMH, NIH, DHHS, and PHS, and names many perpetrators. But we had not yet seen the globalist scope of these activities. Here are links to a few articles about our successful efforts to stop the federal eugenics program.   The Role of Psychiatry in Nazi Germany and the U.S. Violence Initiative. This link contains the written introduction and historical video of Dr. Peter Breggin's presentation to Black leaders and community members in Harlem in the early 1990s about the federal government's plans to biologically “prevent violence” by identifying and drugging Black toddlers and children—a plan ultimately stopped due to the Breggins' exposure of the eugenics program. A biomedical programme for urban violence control in the US: the dangers of psychiatric social control; by Peter R Breggin and Ginger Ross Breggin Letter to the Editor, The New York Times by Peter R. Breggin, M.D.: U.S. Hasn't Given Up Linking Genes to Crime.  Excerpt: “Dr. Goodwin estimates that 100,000 children, as young as 5, will be identified for psychiatric interventions. He called the violence initiative the No. 1 funding priority for the Federal mental health establishment in 1994. My organization has since obtained documentation that millions of dollars of Federal funds are being spent on violence initiative research and planning, including studies of both rhesus monkeys and inner-city children. Newly developed psychiatric drugs are being tested for violence prevention in monkey studies, and some psychiatrists are claiming they can be used in humans for the same purpose. It seems inevitable that the violence initiative will involve administering the same drugs to inner-city children. The widespread use of Ritalin to control aggressive children, frequently supported or initiated by public schools, has set a precedent for pharmacological intervention.” Disposable Children in Black Faces: The Violence Initiative as Inner-City Containment Policy; Alfreda A. NIH, under fire, freezes grant for conference on genetics and crime; Nature, Vol. 358, 30 July 1992, p357.   It was further hammered home to me in the interview with Dr. Engel that the kinds of individuals who are cunning enough and violent enough to run totalitarian nations and empires have their counterparts running amok within many federal agencies and many other American institutions. And that is the force from within that we are fighting today as we stand up for freedom in America. We must face a former national leadership, and a current Deep State and other institutions riddled with the worst human beings we can imagine and understand — or we will remain vastly hampered in fighting them.     ______   Learn more about Dr. Peter Breggin's work: https://breggin.com/   See more from Dr. Breggin's long history of being a reformer in psychiatry: https://breggin.com/Psychiatry-as-an-Instrument-of-Social-and-Political-Control   Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal, the how-to manual @ https://breggin.com/a-guide-for-prescribers-therapists-patients-and-their-families/   Get a copy of Dr. Breggin's latest book: WHO ARE THE “THEY” - THESE GLOBAL PREDATORS? Every physician has those patient conversations they'd rather avoid, the ones that drain energy and feel like a constant struggle. But what if there was a way to make them easier and more effective? In this episode, Dr. Rob Orman shares how scripting your least favorite conversations can help you stay in control, set boundaries with compassion, and reduce emotional fatigue.Dr. Bradley Block and Dr. Rob Orman dive into key frameworks that can help you approach difficult conversations with confidence, including the “Yes, No, Yes” method—affirming concerns, setting boundaries, and providing alternatives, how to identify the conversations that exhaust you the most (and how to script them), the mindset shift from “I have knowledge to give” to “the patient has knowledge I need to understand”, why physicians often speak in logic, while patients respond to emotion—and how to bridge the gap and techniques from hostage negotiation that can help physicians communicate more effectivelyIf you've ever found yourself dreading certain discussions, whether it's refusing antibiotics for a viral infection or setting expectations for pain management this episode gives you a roadmap to navigate them with ease and confidence.Three Actionable Takeaways:Yes, No, Yes Framework – Start with an internal ‘yes' to your values, set clear boundaries with a ‘no,' and end with a constructive ‘yes' offering alternatives that align with good medicine.Shift from Logic to Emotion – Patients often respond more to emotional validation than pure facts. Acknowledge concerns before explaining the medical reasoning.Unearth the Real Concern – Patients don't always verbalize their true fears. Use open-ended questions to uncover the question behind the question, building trust and addressing the root issue.About the Show: The Physician Guide to Doctoring covers patient interactions, burnout, career growth, personal finance, and more. In this episode, Dr. Mina and Dr. Zain Husain talk about what it takes to keep your skin healthy. They cover the importance of sun protection, good lifestyle habits, and how social media influences the way we see skin. They also discuss common skincare mistakes, must-have products, and how in-office treatments can help. The conversation highlights the need for personalized skincare routines and the benefits of seeing a board-certified dermatologist for the best results. Tune in to this week's podcast with Dr. Zain Husain as he breaks down what ‘healthy' skin really means, why it's important, and how to achieve it. He also covers common mistakes, his go-to procedures, and his top 3 takeaways for achieving healthy, glowing skin! Key Takeaways: - Healthy skin is defined by multiple factors, not just aesthetics. - Sun protection is crucial for preventing skin damage and disease. - Diet, antioxidants, and lifestyle choices significantly impact skin health. - Avoid following skincare trends blindly; consult a dermatologist for personalized advice. - Overusing products can harm the skin barrier; less is often more. - Essential skincare includes sunscreen, a good cleanser, and vitamin C serum. - In-office procedures can enhance skin health but should be approached conservatively. - Social media can create unrealistic beauty standards that affect self-esteem. - It's important to recognize that perfection in skin is not achievable or necessary. - Regular consultations with dermatologists can lead to better skincare outcomes. Dr. Zain Husain, MD, FAAD is a dual board-certified dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon, fellowship-trained in cosmetic dermatology. He began his medical education when he was accepted into the highly competitive accelerated 7-year BS/MD program with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where he graduated with top academic honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. fWotD Episode 2632: John D. Whitney Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Friday, 19 July 2024 is John D. Whitney.John Dunning Whitney (July 19, 1850 – November 27, 1917) was an American Catholic priest and Jesuit who became the president of Georgetown University in 1898. Born in Massachusetts, he joined the United States Navy at the age of sixteen, where he was introduced to Catholicism by way of a book that accidentally came into his possession and prompted him to become a Catholic. He entered the Society of Jesus and spent the next twenty-five years studying and teaching mathematics at Jesuit institutions around the world, including in Canada, England, Ireland, and around the United States in New York, Maryland, Boston, and Louisiana. He became the vice president of Spring Hill College in Alabama before being appointed the president of Georgetown University.During his three-year tenure, a number of improvements were made to the campus, including the completion of Gaston Hall and the construction of the entrances to Healy Hall. The Georgetown University Hospital and what would become the School of Dentistry were also established. After the end of his term, he went to Boston College for several years as treasurer before doing pastoral work in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Baltimore, where he became the prefect of St. Ignatius Church. He continued to spend time at Boston College, where he died in 1917.John Dunning Whitney was born on July 19, 1850, in Nantucket, Massachusetts. Descending from a prominent family, his father was Thomas G. Whitney and his mother was Esther A. Whitney née Dunning. Esther was a devout Congregationalist and John was raised in that faith. He was sent to several public and private schools, including Nantucket High School, before entering the United States Navy in 1866. While serving as a lieutenant aboard the schoolship USS Mercury, he had a religious conversion experience.Aboard the Mercury, he would often discuss religion with a shipmate, who argued that none of the Protestant churches were the one true church, and that either the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the Catholic Church was the true church. Whitney was also able to compare the different practices of the Protestant and Catholic chaplains aboard the ship. His conversations with his shipmate convinced Whitney to consider "the claims of the Catholic church". In August 1870, the Mercury was in Newport, Rhode Island, to attend the America's Cup. The captain invited a newlywed Catholic couple aboard to return to New York City from the yacht races. While sailing through the Long Island Sound, the bride dropped a book overboard, and the executive officer had a dinghy lowered into the water to retrieve it. After disembarking in New York, the bride left the book behind, which Whitney discovered to be The Invitation Heeded: Reasons for a Return to Catholic Unity by James Kent Stone, who later became a Passionist priest known as Father Fidelis; the book was written in response to Pope Pius IX's call for all Christians to return to the Mother Church.Having read the book repeatedly, he approached one of the ship's chaplains, Dominic Duranquet, a Jesuit, and declared that if its contents were true, then he must become a Catholic. After being instructed to pray and study further, he requested to be received into the Catholic Church, with Stone as his godfather. On November 2, 1870 (All Souls' Day), Whitney was conditionally baptized by Duranquet in the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York City.Whitney entered the Society of Jesus on August 14, 1872, in the Sault-au-Récollet neighborhood of Montreal, Canada, where he remained for two years. He went to Manresa House in the Roehampton district of London, England, in 1875 to study rhetoric for a year, and then to Stonyhurst College in Lancashire for three years to study philosophy. He taught mathematics for a year before returning to the United States in 1880, where he continued to teach mathematics at St. Francis Xavier College in New York City for four years. In 1884, he went to Woodstock College in Maryland to study theology. The following year, he was sent to Mobile, Alabama, where he was ordained a priest on August 15, 1885. He began teaching mathematics in 1886 at Spring Hill College, and eventually became vice president of the school. After four years at Spring Hill College, he went to Ireland in 1890, where he studied theology at Milltown Park in Dublin, before returning to Roehampton for his tertianship in 1892.Whitney then returned to the United States, and began teaching mathematics at St. Charles College in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, from 1893 to 1895. He was transferred to the College of the Immaculate Conception in New Orleans in 1897, and then to St. John's College in The Bronx, later known as Fordham University.Whitney was appointed president of Georgetown University on July 3, 1898, succeeding J. Havens Richards. During his presidency, a number of improvements to the campus were made. The Georgetown University Hospital was opened and the first patient was accepted. Gaston Hall was decorated and completed in 1901. That year, the university also received a donation from Anthony A. Hirst, a wealthy resident of Philadelphia and alumnus of Georgetown College and Law School, to construct Hirst Library inside Healy Hall. The main and center entrances to Healy Hall were completed, walkways were paved, and several campus buildings were renovated, including Dahlgren Chapel. In 1901, Whitney convinced the faculty of the School of Medicine to reconsider the proposal of a local dentist, W. Warrington Evans, to absorb his Washington Dental College as a department of the medical school, a proposal he had been tendering to the university since 1870. The medical faculty accepted the arrangement in May 1901, and the Washington Dental College became a department in late July. It would eventually become the university's School of Dentistry. On May 14, 1901, the university hosted Archbishop Sebastiano Martinelli, the Apostolic Delegate to the United States, upon his elevation to the College of Cardinals. The grand reception in Healy Hall was attended by the students and faculty in their academic regalia, as well as many dignitaries, including the Secretary of War Elihu Root, all the justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, all the justices of the federal District of Columbia Court of Appeals (later renamed to a circuit court), most of the foreign ambassadors to the United States, many military and naval commanders, and the faculties of other local universities. While Whitney was popular with the students, the Jesuit provincial superior decided not to renew his term as president, believing he had placed too much emphasis on athletics and was spendthrifty. Whitney's tenure as president came to an end on July 11, 1901, and he was succeeded by Jerome Daugherty.Following the end of his presidency at Georgetown, Whitney became the treasurer of Boston College in 1902 and held this post until 1907. While in Massachusetts, he also worked closely with the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, a female religious order. He then left Boston to take up ministry at St. Joseph's Church in Philadelphia, before becoming the prefect of St. Ignatius Church in Baltimore in August 1909. He succeeded Francis X. Brady, who left to become president of Loyola College in Maryland, and Whitney was stationed at St. Ignatius for the remainder of his life. While at St. Ignatius, he directed the sodality of St. Ignatius Church, which administered the W. G. Read Mullan Scholarship. He spent the year of 1912 in Brooklyn, away from his parish. In May 1916, his health began to deteriorate, and he spent part of 1917 at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where he died on November 27 of that year. His funeral was held in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Boston and he was buried at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:33 UTC on Friday, 19 July 2024.For the full current version of the article, see John D. How to Embrace Holistic Healing through Art Therapy & Feng Shui

The Amanda Sophia Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 5, 2024 40:20

In this episode, we discuss How to Embrace Holistic Healing through Art Therapy and Feng Shui as Jacqueline shares each stepping stone of her practice and how it continues to evolve.  Jacqueline went through a journey of stepping stones, each with unique and individual sets of wisdom that she now combines beautifully into her overall practice. She started with art education, eventually adding Yoga, Reiki, Art Therapy, and Feng Shui as a wholesome blend of holistic healing practices.  She shares how Art Therapy led her into deeper practices and understanding of how interconnected intergenerational trauma can be in one's environment and habits. Jacqueline speaks on her findings of people she's served, from children to veterans who all benefit from the therapeutic practices she's combined. Through her work, she discovered that she could only do so much from a therapist's perspective and often this would send her clients back home to an unsupportive or imbalanced environment. This is where Feng Shui came in, Jacqueline started studying Feng Shui through Amanda's International Feng Shui School and discovered that she was able to help her clients set up their homes for personal success too! This combined with Art Therapy allowed her to guide her clients to explore their creativity more, which allowed them to be more in tune with the colors, artwork, and flow of the home itself. The interconnection of Art Therapy and Feng Shui mainly took the form of repatterning old programs of environment, where she found her clients all had habits, perhaps formed from childhood and others formed through adulthood that often created a negative cycle. Now, she can provide them with repatterning tools like decluttering, healing from within, Art Therapy practices, or taking time to meditate or reflect through art that then guides them to breaking negative cycles. A beautiful part of this episode for me was as we started diving deeper into generational trauma, Jacqueline expressed how much wisdom is buried deep within our roots. As we start unpacking trauma and releasing what does not serve us, we also keep emotional reminders and keepsakes within our consciousness as pearls of wisdom. Sometimes it's on what you'd rather want to break the cycle of, other times it's areas in which you'd want to improve for the next generation. Through her Art Therapy and holistic healing modalities, she's found ways to restore, rebuild and release with her clients, and teach them grounding techniques for their continued healing. Toward the end of the episode, Jacqueline shares her tips on how to use Yoga, meditation, Art Therapy, Feng Shui, reflection, and everyday rituals to create an environment supportive of holistic healing. If you're on the path of holistic healing, or you have an interest in Art Therapy or Feng Shui, then this is the podcast for you. Like me, so many of my students, including Jacqueline, started out learning from various cultures and modalities like Yoga, Reiki, Pilates, and Meditation and started incorporating Feng Shui and other holistic healing practices into their tool kit. When you're on the path of a holistic healer then you'll find that one modality always fits into another. That is why when I speak of Feng Shui, I always say that it pairs and interconnects with all the other holistic healing functions. Are you ready to expand on your holistic healing journey or upgrade your services? Join Jacqueline and many other students on their path as holistic healers and register for my FREE Feng Shui mini-course or my Feng Shui Master Certification Course, where you will learn a holistic blend of Feng Shui to incorporate with your existing or future services.      Jacqueline Jones owns and operates Flourish Momentum, integrative health and wellness for mind, body, soul, and space. We've all heard the stories of doctors who cause harm to patients by systematically performing medically unnecessary procedures, just to line their own pockets.  These circumstances rise to a level beyond ordinary medical negligence to fraud or criminal acts.  However, when we litigate individual medical malpractice cases, the rules of discovery and evidence can pose barriers that make it difficult to determine whether a client's experience reflects a larger pattern and practice by the doctor and the medical business.  Join us for our discussion with Washington, DC trial lawyer, Katie Bertram, as she tells the story of a case in which she was able to show this larger pattern of a doctor performing medically unnecessary medical procedures in an out-patient surgery center setting that provides very few checks and balances on this type of rogue behavior. About Catherine "Katie" Bertram Website: https://www.blg-dc.com/ Catherine D. “Katie” Bertram started the Bertram & Murphy, building on decades of experience as both a medical malpractice attorney and director of risk management at Georgetown University Hospital. In those environments, she learned how doctors and hospitals work, as well as how their attorneys assess claims against them. She draws on this knowledge to advocate for patients and their families. “People want someone who's competent, caring, and careful. They've just gone through the worst thing in their lives and been betrayed by doctors or a hospital — people that we're supposed to trust,” she said. “I can set forth what happened and why it was negligent.” Bertram graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a Bachelor of Social Work. While accompanying a social worker to court one day, she found her true passion—the law. “The minute I walked into court, I knew that's what I should be doing,” she said. She obtained her law degree from the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C., in 1989, becoming the first lawyer in her family. The faculty nominated her as Woman Law Student of the Year. Bertram focuses on personal injury and medical malpractice in part because her mother is a nurse. “It allows me to combine the law and medicine,” she said. “I enjoy talking to juries and teaching them about complicated medical cases in an easier way.” Bertram has achieved several distinctions throughout her career. She is one of 20 people serving on the D.C. Bar's Board of Governors and also is a board member of the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center, which finds lawyers to meet the legal needs of D.C.'s low-income residents, nonprofits, and small businesses. She's been an adjunct law professor at American University's Washington College of Law since 2013, teaching a course about medical malpractice. Among her charitable work, she is an active supporter of Public Citizen, the nonprofit consumer advocacy organization, and a founding member of the Washington, D.C., charity Power 100. She also sews quilts for military veterans through the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Licensed to practice in Washington, D.C., and in Maryland, Bertram has a notable record of favorable verdicts. In 2017, she won $8 million on behalf of her clients against Edward Dunne, M.D., and Foxhall Urology, and in 2018, she won a $1.25 million verdict against Capital Women's Care and others for negligence and negligent infliction of emotional distress. But even though she and her firm have a strong track record, she and Heather J. Kelly also work hard to settle cases in their clients' best interests. If they're able to reach a settlement before formally filing the case, they'll lower their fees. A third-generation Washingtonian, Bertram enjoys spending time with her family and on the Chesapeake Bay when not in court. She's proud of the individualized attention that the Bertram & Murphy provides. “I can limit the number of cases I take so I can work very hard on each case,” Bertram said. “We have the time and the creativity and the resources and the technology and the verdicts behind us like we're a big firm, but you don't deal with layers and layers of people. You're getting the A team.”

Various surgical interventions exist for weight loss, but if apprehensive about traditional surgeries, alternative treatment procedures are available to support weight loss efforts. In this episode, Dr. Janese Laster, a quadruple board-certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, obesity medicine, and nutrition, discusses two popular non-surgical weight loss alternatives for individuals hesitant about traditional surgery. These alternatives are the gastric balloon and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) procedures. The gastric balloon has shown a 10-12% total body weight loss in clinical trials, but in practice, outcomes are often more substantial, attributed to patient follow-up and education. Both procedures provide shorter recovery times and fewer side effects compared to traditional surgery. She emphasizes the need for ongoing support and lifestyle changes post-removal of these devices. My guest today is integrative gastroenterologist Dr. Robynne Chutkan. Studying at Yale University and then Columbia medical school, Dr. Chutkan took a job with Georgetown University Hospital. Then in 2004, she created the digestive center for wellness. Dr. Chutkan continues to help patients heal various health issues with proper nutrition and lifestyle choices from autoimmune disease, skin disease, eczema, asthma and so much more. She even noticed that some underdeveloped countries have far fewer autoimmune diseases than our developed country. What was this based on? Early in her practice, Dr. Chutkan saw patients improving their health drastically and finally asked them, “what are you doing differently?” Inspired by their improved results through healthy eating she started to explore this path. She is not opposed to medication, but she says there are quite a few options to getting better besides using medication as a first and only solution. Her latest book, 'The Anti-Viral Gut,' is out now. Enjoy! We are so fortunate to have a guest who was with us when it all started. He was our very first guest on the Switch4Good podcast, so it's only fitting that he should join us for our very special 200th episode. You will even see him on our Switch4Good staff page, that's how closely we work with him. We're so thrilled and truly honored to have with us, the esteemed Doctor and vegan activist, Dr. Milton Mills! For those of you who missed our first episode, Dr. Mills earned his medical degree from Stanford University and did his Internal Medicine residency at Georgetown University Hospital. He now practices critical care medicine in the D.C. area. Dr. Mills was also the lead plaintiff in PCRM's lawsuit asking for warning labels on milk, and he also stars in the very excellent documentaries “What the Health” and “The Invisible Vegan.”  Tune in to this very special, must-listen-to episode as Dr. Mills shares his boundless wisdom with us! “Dairy is probably one of the most unnatural products that humans consume. It has been normalized because it has become a widespread cultural practice, but that in no way means that it is normal. Kinds of milk are designed by nature to be consumed by species-specific infants.” - Dr. Milton Mills   What we discuss in this episode: How he started his journey to veganism and the impact it had on his health. The advances Dr. Mills has witnessed in the vegan movement. Why Dr. Mills chose to become a doctor. The myriad reasons human beings are meant to eat plants exclusively. Why bovine lactate is completely unnatural for humans to consume. How bovine mRNA fragments could be responsible for the long-term harmful effects of dairy consumption. The meaning of “dietary racism.” Why dietary racism persists. How BIPOC children are placed at a disadvantage by being forced to consume dairy milk?
