Kirin Sinha, MIT math prodigy and founder/CEO of Illumix, embodies the vital intersection of AI, XR, and real-world relevance. On this episode, she unpacks the hard realities of spatial computing's journey—from grinding through MIT at sixteen and “building the Iron Man desk as a senior project” to launching Five Nights at Freddy's AR (garnering 60M+ downloads) and powering Disney/Six Flags location-based XR.Sinha challenges the XR hype machine: “Location-based constraints are the best sandbox. Real-world variability, lighting, edge compute, and privacy aren't just demos—they're survivability.” She candidly discusses why the first era of mobile AR rarely survived outside of theme parks and why the true metaverse won't arrive through geofenced phone gimmicks, but rather from ambient cameras, context-aware AI, and wearables that deliver daily relevance. The conversation dives into XR's scaling riddle: most startups go too big, too soon—Illumix ran lean and learned real lessons from thousands of live deployments before expanding. Sinha's take on platform dominance? “Whoever pairs visual context with an always-on, lightweight wearable—without being creepy—wins.” She weighs the mergers-and-acquisitions question with nuance (“you keep every door open, but we've built for independence and profitability”), and explains exactly why Niantic's follow-up AR games failed to recapture Pokemon Go's lightning-in-a-bottle.Guest HighlightsEnrolled at MIT at 16; bridge between math, AI, and real-world camera vision.Founded Illumix, powering everything from “Five Nights at Freddy's” AR (60M+ organic downloads) to Disney and Six Flags' location-driven XR.Deep infrastructure: dynamic, privacy-first, real-time spatial intelligence at the edge, not reliant on the cloud.Insights on product-market fit and startup timing: “Most of the world's ‘available' XR space is dead space without a ‘why' for users.”Honest, nuanced take on M&A, survival, and why lean teams win when timing finally shifts.News SegmentNvidia's $4.5T valuation—is big tech over-hyped, or will foundational arms dealers keep winning while everyone else corrects?Major tech layoffs attributed to AI “efficiency”—stock prices keep rising as automation accelerates, but most Americans are left behind.Brendan Iribe's $300M AI/AR glasses startup—a kinder, context-aware approach to ambient interfaces, but does anyone actually break out from the pack?Google/Magic Leap factory reboot, patent arsenal, and Surface team members cycling across Meta and Apple—XR's “three Spider-Mans” all fight for the same future.OpenAI's privatization and AGI date bets—the team debates when, how, and if superintelligence IPOs.XR economy is in a phase shift—who survives, who gets acquired, and who makes it to scale?Special thanks to our sponsor Zappar. In this episode of Homeopathy 247, host Mary Greensmith welcomes homoeopath Anindita Sinha to explore one of the most iconic remedies in homoeopathy: Belladonna. Often included in every homeopathic first-aid kit, Belladonna is known for its dramatic and sudden symptoms, especially in children. Anindita dives into its historical background, clinical use, and why it remains a go-to remedy for acute conditions like fever, inflammation, and throbbing pain. The History and Nature of Belladonna The word Belladonna means "beautiful lady" and originates from a time when women in Italy used drops from the plant to dilate their pupils, a sign of allure and beauty. However, the plant—also known as deadly nightshade—is toxic in material doses. In its homeopathic form, Belladonna is diluted and succussed (shaken) to release its healing energy. It can then be safely used to treat the very symptoms it might cause in its raw state: heat, redness, throbbing, and sudden inflammation. Key Characteristics of Belladonna Anindita describes Belladonna as the “Prince of Congestion.” It's associated with: Sudden onset of symptoms High fevers with flushed cheeks and dilated pupils Redness, heat, and throbbing pain Sensitivity to light and touch Delirium and heightened mental activity This remedy is especially useful in treating children who suddenly become unwell, often after exposure to heat or sun. It also covers a range of acute symptoms in the head, digestive tract, or reproductive organs. How Belladonna Works in Homoeopathy Mary and Anindita explain the core principle of homoeopathy—“like cures like.” A substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person can help heal those symptoms in a sick person when highly diluted. This is why Belladonna, although poisonous in its natural state, becomes a gentle and effective healing remedy in homeopathic potency. Remedy Relationship: Belladonna and Calcarea Carbonica Anindita shares an interesting connection between Belladonna and Calcarea Carbonica (Calcarb). Although opposite in many ways—Calcarb being slow and sluggish while Belladonna is intense and fiery—Belladonna is often the acute remedy for a Calcarb constitution when symptoms become intense and inflamed. She explains this through soil composition and how Belladonna, a plant, grows in chalky soil (associated with calcium). Real-Life Experiences Anindita shares personal and clinical examples of using Belladonna: During her postpartum period, it helped manage sudden heavy bleeding. For a neighbour suffering from a painful boil, Belladonna eased the intense throbbing. In children with sudden high fevers or even in autistic children experiencing aggressive flare-ups, Belladonna helps calm the storm. Fever and Belladonna Belladonna shines in acute fevers—especially in children with flushed cheeks, delirium, and restlessness. Anindita reminds listeners that while homoeopathy can be complementary, severe symptoms like meningitis should always be seen by a doctor. Belladonna can be taken en route to hospital as supportive care. Belladonna is a must-have remedy for any household. Its wide-ranging application in acute illnesses, particularly those with sudden, intense symptoms, makes it a staple in homoeopathy kits. Anindita's stories and insights make it clear why this remedy remains one of the most valued in practice. O jaké aféry šlo? Kauza Bartončík, sponzoři ODS, Zemanův Bamberk, Šlachtův puč a Babišovo lithium. K tomu ještě dopovíme, jak se vyvíjejí aféry Čapí hnízdo a bitcoiny. Vycházíme z výroku filosofa Bělohradského, že aféry jsou svátkem demokracie. V autoritativních režimech nejsou, zato tady posouvají společnost dál a vytvářejí nová pravidla.V kauze Bartončík šlo o vyrovnávání se s minulostí a spolupráci s komunistickou tajnou službou.

In this webinar, the CardioNerds collaborated with the Cardiogenic Shock Working Group (CSWG) to discuss LV unloading and the updated AMI guidelines, which upgraded transvalvular flow pumps to a Class 2A recommendation in AMI shock. Dr. Rachel Goodman and Dr. Gurleen Kaur from CardioNerds were joined by Dr. Navin Kapur (Tufts Medical Center), Dr. Shashank Sinha (INOVA Fairfax Hospital), and Dr. Rachna Kataria (Brown University) from the CSWG. Together, they explore a case of an older woman who presented with inferior STEMI and was found to have complete occlusion of an anomalous single coronary artery originating from the right coronary cusp and supplying the entire left ventricle. She was treated with DES to the anomalous RCA. Her course was complicated by AMI shock with re-occlusion of the DES, which was treated with thrombectomy and balloon angioplasty. An IABP was placed. After transfer to a tertiary care center, a pulmonary artery catheter revealed a CI of 0.96. With worsening shock, rising lactate, and end organ dysfunction, the team proceeded with VA-ECMO and Impella CP for LV unloading. Her lactate subsequently normalized. In the wake of the most intense India-Pakistan escalation in two decades, experts are still trying to make sense of the role that the information war played in the physical one. In this episode, Tech Policy Press Associate Editor Ramsha Jahangir speaks to two experts from India and Pakistan who tirelessly navigated the deluge of rumor and disinformation during the crisis, and who came away with thoughts about the role of social media platforms and the incentives they create, particularly in times of conflict:Pratik Sinha, co-founder and editor at Alt News—one of India's major fact-checking websites, and Asad Baig, founder of Media Matters for Democracy—a non-profit focused on media literacy and development in Pakistan.Sinha and Baig reflect on how the India-Pakistan conflict played out across digital platforms—and how it revealed a deeper, more dangerous dysfunction in the information ecosystem.
Let's be friends! What happens when your identity is stripped away by a visa system designed to make you dependent? This is the reality for hundreds of thousands of immigrant women who arrive in America as accomplished professionals only to discover they're legally prohibited from working.Varuni Sinha, author of the groundbreaking memoir "Golden Handcuffs and Immigrants' Pursuit of Happiness," takes us on her harrowing journey from successful advertising executive and academic in India to a woman battling depression and alcoholism in New York City. As the first South Asian woman to write openly about the H4 visa experience, she exposes how immigration laws have silently devastated careers and mental health since 1990.Her transformation began on the streets of New York, walking her dog through neighborhoods where strangers would inexplicably share their deepest secrets. These encounters—which she documented as "strangers on the street"—became her first step toward healing. The profound moment came when several men risked their lives to save her runaway dog from traffic, prompting her to reassess everything she'd been through as an immigrant.Drawing inspiration from Richard Phillips, who maintained his humanity during 46 years of wrongful imprisonment by creating watercolor paintings, Varuni channeled her pain into creativity. Despite facing pregnancy loss and her mother-in-law's terminal illness during COVID, she completed her manuscript—a testament to resilience that readers from all backgrounds have found deeply relatable.Varuni's message transcends the immigrant experience: we all have our own "golden handcuffs," situations that feel imprisoning but contain the seeds of our transformation. "We all fall down," she reminds us, "only to learn how to build ourselves back again, brick by brick." Her story isn't just about survival—it's about emerging from darkness with a more beautiful understanding of what it means to be human.https://varuni-sinha.squarespace.com/about-me

Lori Allen and Ajantha Subramanian continue their second series on Violent Majorities. Their previous episode featured Peter Beinart on Zionism as long-distance ethnonationalism; here they speak with Subir Sinha, who teaches at SOAS University of London, comments on Indian and European media, and is a member of a commission of inquiry exploring the 2022 unrest between Hindus and Muslims in Leicester, UK. The catalysts he identifies for the rise of Hindu nationalism (Hindutva) include the emergence of new middle classes after economic liberalization, the rise of Islamophobia after 9/11, the 2008 crisis in capitalism, and the spread of new communications technologies. The trio discuss the growth of Hindutva in the US and UK since the 1990s and its further consolidation. Social media has been key to Modi's brand of authoritarian populism, with simultaneous messaging across national borders producing a globally dispersed audience for Hindutva. Particularly useful to transnational political mobilizations has been the manufacture of wounded Hindu sentiments: a claim to victimhood that draws on the legitimizing language of religious minority rights in the US and UK. They also note more hopeful signs: Dalit and other oppressed caste politics have begun to strengthen in the diaspora; the contradictions between lived Hinduism and Hindutva have become clearer; there are some demographic and structural barriers to Hindutva's further growth in the UK and US. Subir's Recallable Book is Kunal Purohit's H-Pop:The Secretive World of Hindutva Pop Stars (Harper Collins India, 2023), which looks at the proliferation of Hindutva Pop, a genre of music that is made to go viral and whip up mob violence against religious minorities.
