Are we headed back to the 1970s? Politicians and commentators from across the political spectrum insist we are. They also make clear that nothing could be worse. Why is the decade so feared? What kinds of policy to the grim warnings justify? On episode 56 of The Politics of Everything, hosts Laura Marsh and Alex Pareene speak with the writer Aaron Timms about “nostophobia,” a term he coined to describe a condition that is something like the opposite of nostalgia, and “'70s syndrome,” the variant currently gripping our collective imagination. It's hard to see how we fix the problems of today with the same failed policy solutions of the 1970s—but that isn't stopping anyone from trying. Learn more about your ad choices. This week, we're sharing an episode from our friends over at The Politics of Everything, a biweekly podcast from The New Republic that explores the intersection of culture, media, and politics through interviews with scholars and journalists. What kinds of policy do the grim warnings justify? On episode 56 of The Politics of Everything, hosts Laura Marsh and Alex Pareene speak with the writer Aaron Timms about “nostophobia,” a term he coined to describe a condition that is something like the opposite of nostalgia, and “'70s syndrome,” the variant currently gripping our collective imagination. On my ongoing podcast journey, I now focus on consolidation on Thursday's episodes. Repetition is the mother of all learning, they say. So instead of adding more knowledge, I revisit the previous episodes and consolidate the wisdom imparted by my guests. In today's episode I cover the topics of visualisation and manifestation. You probably know about the importance of visualising, of this mental rehearsal in the “theatre of the mind.” I revisit 6 of the previous episodes and share the wisdom of my guests Alexander Keehnen (#053), Aaron Timms (#059), Andrew Kapp (#067), Tamara von Dohren (#077), Liam Ryan (#083), and EB Sanders (#093). ݆
You now have ideas, an all-purpose acknowledgments section, and a font. How should you present everything? “Write like you talk,” Paul Graham once said, but he forgot to add: “And talk like an asshole.” https://thebaffler.com/salvos/how-to-become-an-intellectual-in-silicon-valley-timms

Aaron Timms is the author of the Amazon #1 best selling book 'Belief bound mind'. His story is extraordinary: from a tragic life-changing event, where he lost loved ones and broke his back in a terrible accident, to the miracle of his healing. He is a self-healing mentor, and a firm believer in the power of our mind. This is an interview I did for my previous podcast, back in April 2019. Key takeaways: • From being a paraplegic & the prognosis of spending his life in a wheelchair, to complete healing of both mind and body • Empowering and teaching others how they can self-heal, not only their physical bodies, but also their whole life • How Aaron used the power of his mind, visualising and affirming his beliefs that he would heal. Memorable quote: "If I have done it you can too…" -Aaron Timms Valuable resources: Website: https://www.aarontimmsofficial.com/ About the host: I am Agi Keramidas, a knowledge broker and a zealous podcaster (among other traits). The Covid-19 pandemic interrupted the usual functioning of the national economy with shocking speed and violence. Now, as states around the country move to “reopen”—in most cases far earlier and faster than is safe—and politicians hold forth about how best to restart economic activity, it seems imperative to consider the nature of the economy getting restarted. Do we really want to go back to the pre-pandemic status quo? How can we remake the system so it works better for everyone? For Episode 7, The Politics of Everything assembled an ad hoc council to address these questions, asking six guests to offer their best and least expected ideas for reform: Dean Baker, a senior economist at the Center for Economic and Policy Research; Jason Linkins and Katie McDonough, deputy editors at TNR; Libby Watson, a TNR staff writer; and TNR contributors Aaron Timms and Liza Featherstone. Aaron Timms joins Tom once again to revel in Arsenal's blockbuster acquisition of Nicolas Pepe. The two discuss where the transfer ranks among the club's other recent signings, and evaluate some of the other rumored moves around Europe. Then, the boys shift their gaze stateside to talk about this week's much-maligned response from the U.S. Soccer Federation to the USWNT's equal pay lawsuit. After overcoming the technical difficulties that forced us to scrap an episode last week, Quality Service returns with a visit from old friend Aaron Timms, who joined Tom to talk about Gareth Bale's legacy at Real Madrid and the summer transfer activity. The two close the episode with a discussion about the rape allegation brought against Cristiano Ronaldo, and how the rich and powerful so often evade accountability. Is football "broken"? Doesn't seem like it, but Manchester City's dominance has certainly broken some brains. Jonathan Wilson at The Guardian wrote a pretty hysterical piece last week after City's demolition of Watford in the FA Cup final, lamenting how football is "broken" and that the big six clubs might as well just spin off their own European super league. Well, we dissent! Or at least Tom does. He was joined by Quality Service squad player Aaron Timms to discuss Wilson's column, City's stranglehold on the league, why the team doesn't generate as much goodwill as other historically great sides, and whether it's the end of the Premier League as we know it. Quality Service cup player Jonathan Carmody makes a cameo at the end to consider this tasty hypothetical -- what if the sheikhs had bought his beloved Newcastle rather than City? Oh, and all of this took place as the Championship playoff final unfolded in the background at Banter. Congrats to Aston Villa and Prince William. **PROGRAMMING ALERT** Quality Service will be broadcasting from Spain and Portugal for the next two weeks. Tom and Jonathan will be in Madrid during the Champions League final, and then will press on to Portugal to watch England and The Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League semi-final. They'll attend the final in Porto a few days later. Expect lots of sounds from the stadium and bars, interviews with fans, and other great conversations. Well, for a minute there it really looked like Liverpool was going to do it. But alas, a Premier League title race for the ages ended in familiar fashion, with the imperious Manchester City once again crowned champions of England. Anticlimactic or not, Tom was at Banter to capture the festive scenes on the season's final day where he was joined by Quality Service regulars Jonathan Carmody and Aaron Timms. The three kept their eyes on all the action while discussing whether Liverpool would have preferred the Premier League or Champions League, whether Arsenal fans would trade the club's last three FA Cups for what Tottenham have already accomplished this season, and whether Pep Guardiola is a glory hunter. Liverpool fans may want to fast-forward to the 11:39 mark to re-live the pandemonium following Brighton's opening goal over City and just pretend that nothing else came after that. Unable to contain their sizzling takes to merely one episode, Tom and Aaron Timms continue their conversation at Banter. With Manchester City battling Burnley in the background, they take on Alexi Lalas' vapid defense of MLS and recount the time Bob Bradley sent Aaron an angry email. Then, the boys make their case for why Virgil van Dijk is the player of the year in the Premier League. Yes, this was recorded before he actually won the award. Get over it. Tom returns to Banter in Williamsburg, where he is joined by fellow Gooner, friend and writer Aaron Timms (@aarontimms) for a Premier League triple-header: Leicester / Arsenal, Burnley / Man City, and Man United / Chelsea. The two watch Arsenal collapse away from home once again, and discuss how far their beloved club has fallen. And speaking of diminished stature, Aaron offers his assessment on Manchester United's appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjær as manager (hint: he doesn't rate Ole). Then, the boys GO IN on a desperate media narrative asserting that, ACTUALLY, this incredibly absorbing title race between Manchester City and Liverpool isn't all that great. Contrarianism has gone too far, folks.
