Let's discuss a topic that is as hot as it is uncomfortable: flight shame. Do you have it, every time you fantasize about buying a ticket for a plane? Roanne certainly does. Never flying again is one future scenario, but flying in a more sustainable manner, is another one - and that's the one we talk about today. We do so with Maarten van Dijk, managing director of SkyNRG - the pioneer and global market leader for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Having supplied over 30 airlines on all continents, it is their mission to make SAF the new global standard. That demands visionary leadership. Courage, and being able to engage in complex conversations, because boy oh boy, will this company meet a lot of scepticism - until they reach enthusiasm. Whilst getting to know Maarten, Roanne also found out that he seems to possess some other skills that future leaders need: realism, the guts to NOT jump on every opportunity,  and a surprising amount of humbleness. In this episode, we talk about: Maartens' journey from being a pioneer in the industry, where his product was still unknown and even perceived as unsafe, to being a big player in the field. Why saying ‘no' is a must if you want to grow - as a company, and as a leader. How to create a working culture in which little time is spent on back-reporting. Why he is willing to step down and be paid less, than his next CEO. This podcast is hosted by Futures-Anthropologist Dr. Roanne van Voorst, and facilitated by Hatch (www.iamhatch.com) - helping you and your company become future-proof through experiential learning, art, good food, connection and more surprises than you ever expected the future to hold!

How many of you have sleep problems? Maybe it's waking up in the middle of the night and then not being able to get back to sleep, or waking up too early, or nodding off during all too often in front of the tv… or, more embarrassingly, during work meetings? One thing's for sure: our modern world means that we are not sleeping in the way we used to. Derk-Jan Dijk, Distinguished Professor of Sleep and Physiology at the University of Surrey and Director of the Surrey Sleep Centre, says: we are the only species to extend our day using artificial light, and that has consequences. Jim Al-Khalili talks to Derk-Jan Dijk about the many aspects of sleep that he has studied over the last thirty years – such as how circadian rhythms interact with our sleep cycles, and how sleep changes in people with dementia.

The DICTL Derby is rapidly approaching and Rebecca & Alex are back to look at Liverpool and Chelsea's great starts to the season. Liverpool have started the season where they left off, except this time they have most of their squad actually available. We chat about Virgil van Dijk continuing where he left off, the club tying down their core players to new contracts, who can best fulfil the 'Gini Wijnaldum' role, and rant about the reactions from Sean Dyche and English pundits following the win over Burnley. Chelsea have also hit the ground running, with Jorginho now the best player in Europe (apparently) and Romelu Lukaku scoring within 15 minutes of his re-debut. Are Chelsea truly title contenders this season and how will Chelsea vs Liverpool play out this weekend? Will both teams go for the win or settle for a draw in the title race? And who will win the anticipated battle of Lukaku vs Van Dijk? We also take a closer look at the Champions League group stages draw, Arsenal under Arteta looking like an absolute mess, Tottenham impressing under Nuno, Harry Kane sticking around, Manchester City's midfield weaknesses, West Ham and Brighton's strong starts, Man Utd's title challenge already coming to a screeching halt, and Rafa Benitez at Everton so far. Plus, Andy Robertson's vibranium ankles, Thomas Tuchel the walking spreadsheet, the carbonara challenge, the 5th Beatle, super premium repair shops, slicing through hot camembert, crumpling like a ghost, speaking in Star Wars, squeaky chairs, buying Harry Kane on Wish, and Rafa's Xmas Tree. **Please take the time to rate and review us on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts, as it makes it easier for other potential listeners to find us.
