La novel·la aborda qüestions sensibles com l'Alzheimer, el dret a morir dignament, les addiccions o l'explotació de persones. Uns temes que, tal com reconeix el mateix autor, parteixen tant de la seva experiència professional com de vivències personals molt properes. En aquest sentit, descriu especialment l'impacte que li va provocar conviure amb la malaltia de la seva mare i veure “l'evolució cruel” de l'Alzheimer fins al punt que “la persona ja no és persona”. Després d'anys escrivint textos de divulgació sanitària i publicacions científiques, Coderch s'endinsa ara en el terreny de la ficció. L'autor explica que el projecte neix de la necessitat d'experimentar “amb una nova manera de comunicar-me”, aprofitant també una etapa vital amb més temps i llibertat creativa després de la jubilació. El rerefons emocional que li brinda l’experiència es combina amb una trama de ficció que incorpora elements d'intriga i tensió narrativa. Coderch apunta que no es tracta d'un thriller en sentit estricte, però sí d'una història que “manté una línia argumental” i va “destapant temes” a mesura que avança el relat.
