On February 13th, 2009, 14-year-old Amber Dubois disappeared into thin air on her way to school in San Diego County, California. There were credible leads or sightings, and it seemed as though Amber was just…gone. Almost exactly one year later, 17-year-old Chelsea King went for a run in a well-populated park, just ten miles from where Amber disappeared, and never returned. Clothing belonging to Chelsea was found nearby and a DNA match was found, leading detectives to a registered sex offender by the name of John Albert Gardner. Who was Gardner, and was he responsible for more than just Chelsea's disappearance? Had he, just one year prior, abducted Amber Dubois off the street on her way to school? This week on Beyond the Art, host Cray Bauxmont-Flynn Flynn meets with Navajo Nation citizen Amber Dubois Shepherd. Ambers gives us an insight on how she grew up in a home immersed with the different Native American tribal cultures and languages, her mother's people, the Navajo, as well as her father's people, the Sac & Fox and Prairie Band Potawatomi.Amber's own artistic path has given her the ability to work with old and new artistic practices in various ways to create a bridge for viewers to see these traditions differently in a visual way. She wants to invite the viewer to be a part of her world and see the traditions the way she sees them in her everyday life. Amber wants her artwork to reach out and connect with others; to let them know we may be different, but to know we are all human beings. Her hope is that her artwork will give the viewer a perspective of what it looks like to be a Native in America and in Oklahoma today. Amber's pieces have an illustrative and narrative quality with them as she bridges traditional Native American subjects with a more modern contemporary style. Her mixed media pieces and oil paintings reference an illustrative quality. She has an Associates of Art from Seminole State College and completed her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Spring 2016 at Oklahoma State University. DuBoise-Shepherd is the Manager of Education and Outreach at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee, OK since April 2019.

14-vuotias Amber Dubois katosi koulumatkallaan jälkiä jättämättä, eikä Amberin perhe saanut sinnikkäistä etsinnöistään huolimatta vastauksia sille, mitä Amberille oli tapahtunut. [EP84] Unexpected English is the podcast where you can practice listening to real American English in just five minutes! This episode is called Search and Rescue. I hope you like it! [Transcription] Hey everybody, you're listening to Unexpected English. I've got a new episode for you. And it's a good episode because it's about people doing good things. And I think we need to hear about people doing good things because there's so much..... bad stuff happening out there, as you know, so we won't talk about that. Instead I'll tell you this episode is about search and rescue. There is a transcription in the notes to help you if you need it. And if you want to help the podcast then please leave a good review on iTunes or subscribe on Spotify, or just tell your friends Okay, here we go! (Interview) Okay, so I was talking to a neighbor and I found out that he volunteers for some kind of interesting organization. So I thought maybe he would tell us about that. Actually, my wife and I both volunteer with Sheriff's Search and Rescue, and we are a group of 150 volunteers that go out and look for lost or missing people anywhere in the county. Okay, so that's the sheriff's... Search and rescue And you volunteer to go find lost people. Now, how does that work? Well, you know, Grandpa goes out for a walk doesn't come home. You call, you know, if you're in the county, you call the sheriff's dispatch, explain it. The deputy will come out and investigate and if it's within reason for us to do, they will dispatch it. So they send out a text message that there's a call out and where it is, and we go out and search for him. Okay, so what was the last search you went out on? Or some that you remember? Well, Chelsea King, we looked for her for well over a week, Amber DuBois. And these are, like, girls who went missing? Yeah. Chelsea King went missing, actually, 12 years ago and was murdered by a perpetrator. Oh my gosh! So we're talking about a missing girl who they didn't know what happened.... They called out Search and Rescue, and we worked on that for well over a week. And in the end, did they find her? Yes, she was located, unfortunately, deceased. Oh my goodness. So it isn't always a happy ending, I guess. No, it isn't. But it's it's a necessary thing, even if it's a homicide case, and we're sent out to see if we can locate the victim. It's necessary, you know, people need to be found and returned to their families. And how about one with a happy ending? Let's give us a happy ending. Oh, there's lots of happy endings. I don't remember the person's name. But down in National City one time we were looking for grandpa who'd only lived with the woman for a week. He'd come here from Texas, and when we found him – we located him about two o'clock in the morning – and she asked if she could thank everybody. We gathered all the searchers around and, through the tears, she said, "I never thought I'd see my Dad alive again. Thank you." Okay, so there you have it. That's a... that's a great story. And I appreciate the time you took talking to us. Oh, my pleasure. **** Thats it! Please support the podcast by following, sharing on your social media, or leaving a five star review on iTunes! The Murders of Amber Dubois and Chelsea King The post #97 The Tale of the Failure of a System appeared first on Orbital Jigsaw.
Every February for years, Carrie Cave — formerly Carrie McGonigle — would drive to a remote spot north of Escondido, where her daughter Amber Dubois died, to decorate a large tree with ribbons and lights. This year, a decade after Amber disappeared — which shook Escondido, then gripped the region a year later with the discovery she had been murdered by a stranger— Cave said she will do something different. She plans to visit a friend in the hospital and decorate there, a quiet celebration of her daughter's memory. Cave, 50, said she has forgiven the killer so she can move forward. But she never forgets Amber, who would be 24 now. She and Amber's father, Maurice “Moe” Dubois — they divorced several years before Amber was taken — each say they are finding peace. Wednesday marks 10 years since the 14-year-old freshman vanished while walking to Escondido High School on Feb. 13, 2009. The man who abducted her, registered sex offender John Albert Gardner III, cornered Amber on a quiet street and forced her into his car. He drove the girl to a secluded spot, raped and stabbed her. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/public-safety/sd-me-amber-anniversary-20190211-story.html
