Frankie works the overnight board at North County dispatch — the last desk on the last frequency in a building the county has already decided to close. Eleven years of talking strangers through the worst minute of their lives, and never once finding out how it ended. It is the coldest winter in thirty years, and the copper is already coming out of the ground. Then, at seven minutes past three, on a channel that was cut and half dismantled three weeks ago, the dead static goes warm. A calm, competent man's voice asks her to roll someone warm out to the Hollis ridge. The vehicle is there. The driver is there. He never is. Kevin Nealon stopped by to say Happy 250th Birthday America!Along the way, the gang debates the universal husband instinct of staring at broken appliances until they magically repair themselves, why every emergency service somehow funnels through the same call center, and whether Sherry deserves a raise for patiently answering everyone's increasingly desperate phone calls. Then things take a sharp turn into one of the greatest local stories imaginable.A KFC employee in North County decides company policy can wait after tackling an armed robbery suspect in the parking lot. The crew immediately begins casting Jason Statham as an ex-government operative secretly working the drive-thru window in what instantly becomes the greatest action movie Hollywood still hasn't made.As if that wasn't enough, Lern introduces everyone to a surprisingly emotional Netflix movie that sends the conversation spiraling into the slow death of voicemail culture, while the crew debates which everyday things will disappear as older generations fade out. Landlines? VHS tapes? Random messages that somehow sat in your inbox for three years? Nothing is safe. The crew also tackles one listener's parenting dilemma involving an absolutely terrible kid who has officially worn out his welcome, leading to stories about getting banned from friends' houses growing up, terrifying 90s parents, and why sometimes being the parent means embracing the villain role.Throw in weather panic, broken thermostats, neighborhood legends, retirement community shenanigans, bizarre Florida news, homeowner frustration, nostalgic childhood stories, and enough sarcastic commentary to survive even the hottest week of the year, and you've got another unforgettable episode.Whether you're listening on your morning commute, pretending to work, hiding from your broken AC, or simply looking for your favorite daily comedy show, this episode delivers the laughs, ridiculous conversations, and unexpected tangents you've come to expect.Woody back in St. Louis as the gang relives nearly setting Captain Jim's entire fireworks inventory on fire, accidentally launching explosives toward a trailer packed with even more explosives, and wondering how they somehow got invited back every year.Naturally, that turns into an all-out war over weather apps because apparently your choice between Apple Weather, Google Maps, Waze, and The Weather Channel says everything about your personality. Somewhere during the argument Riz admits he's gaming Waze just to earn imaginary points, Woody questions humanity, and Moon becomes Bing's official spokesperson. Then things somehow get even weirder. The crew debates home ownership versus renting, subscription services invading literally everything, catalytic converter thefts, why landlords secretly deserve medals, and whether calling your landlord to change a light bulb should be considered a crime. From there, the conversation completely derails into horrifying toothbrush habits. Seriously...if your toothbrush looks like it fought in several wars, Lern wants you to know she's apparently one of those people. Dentists everywhere may need a moment after this episode. The laughs keep rolling as Woody shares restaurant recommendations from Pittsburgh, everyone debates St. Louis food loyalties, Rafe discovers Corner 17, and the gang somehow lands on one of the most important questions ever asked:Which restaurant logo would you permanently tattoo on your body for free food for life?Today starts with Global Beatles Day as the crew celebrates one of the biggest moments in music history before arguing over the greatest Beatles songs ever recorded. George fans, Paul fans, John fans...and poor Ringo once again catching strays. Then it's straight into celebrity chaos.Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding rumors explode after reports of a mysterious Madison Square Garden event, and somehow this turns into an actual gambling pool inside the studio. The federal government has made some big promises but can it deliver? On the latest episode of the VOSD Podcast, co-host Jakob McWhinney reveals that San Diego schools are experiencing a boom in special education enrollment. At the same time, there are fewer kids enrolled at local schools today than 10 years ago. That means many schools are seeing a drop in funding. Those two trends are putting a lot of pressure on schools, McWhinney explains. The feds at some point promised to help schools with the cost of special education, but some wonder if that will ever happen. Also on the show: Seventy-five years ago, the feds admitted that the jetties they built for a military base were contributing to Oceanside’s disappearing beaches. Now, for the first time in a long time, they seem to be moving forward with a plan to restore sand to the city's beaches. North County reporter Tigist Layne joins us on the show to explain. Summer officially arrives the way it always does: with somebody's air conditioner choosing violence. This episode of The Rizzuto Show starts with Rafe discovering his AC has completely quit—and every company advertising "24/7 emergency service" suddenly has very different ideas about what "24/7" actually means. After hours of phone calls, troubleshooting that mostly consisted of standing around with hands on hips pretending to understand electrical panels, and enough thermostat resets to qualify for an engineering degree, the crew wonders if homeowner subscriptions have officially replaced common sense.Along the way, the gang debates the universal husband instinct of staring at broken appliances until they magically repair themselves, why every emergency service somehow funnels through the same call center, and whether Sherry deserves a raise for patiently answering everyone's increasingly desperate phone calls. The crew also tackles one listener's parenting dilemma involving an absolutely terrible kid who has officially worn out his welcome, leading to stories about getting banned from friends' houses growing up, terrifying 90s parents, and why sometimes being the parent means embracing the villain role.Throw in weather panic, broken thermostats, neighborhood legends, retirement community shenanigans, bizarre Florida news, homeowner frustration, nostalgic childhood stories, and enough sarcastic commentary to survive even the hottest week of the year, and you've got another unforgettable episode.Whether you're listening on your morning commute, pretending to work, hiding from your broken AC, or simply looking for your favorite daily comedy show, this episode delivers the laughs, ridiculous conversations, and unexpected tangents you've come to expect. Thanks for making The Rizzuto Show part of your routine. Scotty Hargrave didn't invent extra-pale ale—he reinvented it, giving the style the definition it had lacked before. Tinkering away on his homebrew kit in New South Wales, he developed the recipe for what would become Balter XPA—a beer that took off and popularized what has arguably become Australia's signature beer style. It's also a beer that also has inspired certain American brewers, including Craft Coast cofounder Blake Masoner. Craft Coast XPA medaled at the 2024 and 2025 World Beer Cups and is now a core beer at their two brewpubs/taco stands in San Diego's North County. In this episode, Craft Beer & Brewing executive editor Joe Stange—interviewing them for a feature article in our upcoming issue—gathers Hargrave and Masoner for a trans-oceanic dive into the details of what makes a great XPA. With its lean malt base, full-spectrum hop character, soft mouthfeel, and addictively dry finish, it's a simple beer that may not be so simple to execute. Among the topics they discuss: why they believe in Australian base malt for XPA the importance of hot-side hop additions—from first wort to whirlpool—and “spreading out” those IBUs water chemistry and the trick of achieving both soft mouthfeel and a crisp, dry finish how brewing XPA has improved the West Coast IPAs at a medal-winning West Coast brewery the wider value and benefits of learning how to nail a challenging style And more. Berkeley Yeast Berkeley Yeast just launched Dry Tropics London! Our best-selling liquid yeast strain, now with all the ease-of-use benefits of dry yeast. Dry Tropics London delivers the soft, pillowy mouthfeel and juicy character you'd expect from a top-tier London Ale strain, but with a serious upgrade: a burst of thiols that unleash vibrant, layered notes of grapefruit and passion fruit. A lot of brewers love the clean passion fruit you get from Tropics, but they don't want every IPA to be a tropical-fruit bomb. At the dry yeast price point, you can pitch and ditch without breaking the bank. Or, you can co-pitch with your house strain to adjust the intensity of the notes. And with nationwide free shipping, there's never been a better time to try Dry Tropics. Order now at berkeleyyeast.com and experience the ease and impact of Dry Tropics London Yeast.
