Doug and Kari's farm started as a dairy farm run by Doug's great-grandmother. The farm passed to Doug's grandfather and father before becoming his. He sold the dairy cows in 2000, raised some steers, and now grows solely cash crops. They milked 42 cows, had 500 laying hens, some pigs, and harvested crops while doing custom silo filling. His grandfather experienced some hardships during the Great Depression while farming. Doug is the youngest of two sisters and fondly recalls showing cattle in 4H. His wife, Kari, did not come from a farm and moved here from Minnesota. The future of the farm is uncertain due to urban development.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Found My Fitness - Rhonda Patrick Key Takeaways To some degree, insulin resistance is a common root cause for most chronic diseases A low-carb diet may offer a metabolic advantage by reducing insulin levels, which enhances metabolic flexibility and improves energy regulationFat tissue has a much higher metabolic rate when insulin levels are lowSince there is much more metabolic uncoupling, the body's engine revs up to burn energy just to create heat How to reverse a diabetes diagnosis in 90 days Control carbs – focus on whole fruits and vegetables, limiting sugary or starchy choices like bananas, pineapples, and mangoes Prioritize protein and do not fear fat – eat protein-rich foods regularly, and do not worry too much about naturally occurring fats Time meals and exercise – Eat more calories earlier in the day, avoid late-night eating, and take short walks after your biggest meals to reduce blood sugar spikesEating an evening snack spikes your blood sugar and ramps up the sympathetic nervous system, thus increasing body temperature and increasing the likelihood of insomnia and poor sleep; so do not eat within the 3-4 hours before bed Muscle is a great glucose consumer: The more muscle you have, the more metabolic wiggle room you have because muscle serves as a glucose sink Blood-sugar-lowering supplements that work:magnesium, alpha lipoic acid (ALA),berberine, andapple cider vinegar Eating too much linoleic acid (from seed oils) can lead to the production of a toxic substance (4H&E) that prevents your body from creating new small fat cells, and instead forces existing fat cells to just swell upConcerning GLP-1 dosing, caution is warranted; it is probably better to microdose these powerful drugs and think of them as short-term behavioral modification tools instead of lifelong prescriptions The top biomarkers to measure to determine metabolic health and aging:(1) fasting insulin; want below 6 µIU/mL), (2) Triglyceride-to-HDL ratio; want ratio under 1.5, and (3) Uric acid; want lower levels generallyLower your insulin by starting with tomorrow's breakfast: Either fast through breakfast and drink coffee, tea, or yerba mateOr if you do want to eat, then choose low-glycemic-load vegetables and berries, and consume more protein and fat Do whatever you can to keep your insulin in check for as long as possible throughout the day; the longer the insulin is low, the more you will improve your insulin sensitivity Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.org Get access to 130 episodes of my premium podcast, The Aliquot, as a FoundMyFitness Premium Member Insulin resistance silently shapes the trajectory of nearly every major chronic disease, yet it's often overlooked until blood sugar abnormalities become obvious. Before the age of 10, he had as many as 20 bottle-fed calves and even sold watermelon and corn in front of the truck yard alongside Highway 60. Later on, at age 16 he started his own custom hay business, which earned him the National FFA Degree recognition in 2004. When Garrett joined the family business after graduation in 2007, Bowers Trucking operated a dozen trucks within a 150-mile radius concentrated on end dump, aggregate, and construction material hauling. By 2010, Garrett diversified operations by redirecting focus to service the vast manufacturing industries located in Ponca City. By 2013, Bowers Trucking was operating in all 48 states and expanded into Canada and Mexico. Increased customer demand ultimately led to Garrett starting his own logistics company to help coordinate customer overflow. In 2016, Bowers Logistics was formed and the first agent was hired to meet the growing customer base with partner trucking companies looking for freight. By 2018, Bowers Trucking and Bowers Logistics became Department of Defense certified – the first trucking company based in Oklahoma to do so. Today, Bowers Trucking and Bowers Logistics employs 58 full-time employees. Together, the companies operate 50 trucks, and 108 trailers and service 5,000+ carrier partners while still retaining their core customer base from over a decade ago. Garrett met his wife Melissa in Athens, Georgia when the Oklahoma State Cowboys played their season opener against the University of Georgia. With some irresistible charm and a truckload of luck, Garrett convinced Melissa to relocate to Ponca City in 2009. Garrett and Melissa have been married for 13+ years, and they have a son, HB, who graduated PO-HI in 2021 and attended Oklahoma State University. Garrett coached HB's elementary year football teams and served on Osage County's Livestock Board, the FFA Booster Club, and the Quarterback Club. He is a graduate of Ponca City Leadership. He currently serves as seat # 3 commissioner for the City of Ponca City and has been an appointed trustee with the Ponca City Development Authority since 2018 and was chosen to serve two terms on U.S. Senator Inhofe's Service Academy Selection Committee. Danielle Hanosh wants us all to take a LEAP in the best way possible. Her organization LEAP stands for Leaders for Ethics, Animals, and the Planet. Their mission: to transform today's youth into the humane leaders of tomorrow who advocate for and work towards an equitable future for all living beings and the planet. LEAP is a revolutionary humane education program providing high school students across the nation with a compassionate alternative to traditional agriculture programs like 4H and FFA. A comprehensive four-year program taught by participating farm animal sanctuaries, LEAP combines interactive curriculum modules with hands-on learning activities, leadership training, and real-world skill development. If Whitney is right and the children are our future and we should teach them well and let them lead the way, then we all need to take one big good LEAP together, donchathink? ___________________________________________ Steve is busy at work on the third book in his cozy mystery series, THE DOG WALKING DETECTIVES. This week the American Landscape Painter Kim Casebeer whose career spans some 25 years and whose work is shown in private, corporate and museum collections throughout the United States. Kim is represented in galleries from Colorado to Wyoming, Montana, Arizona and her home state of Kansas. She is, she says, in a good place in her career now balancing her time between studio commissioned work, plein air painting and teaching workshops. Kim was born in Newton, KS in 1970 and grew up in the tiny town of Goessel, KS with her two younger sisters Trish and Jenny. Her father Lloyd is a retired farmer and mother Marlene, a retired nurse. Kim's family are fifth generation farmers so her childhood was spent learning to grow a variety of crops and compete in the local 4H club where her talent as a horticulturist was noteworthy. An early interest in all things artistic was encouraged by her parents from drawing tractors with her dad to learning a variety of mediums through high school. It was a natural progression for Kim to choose art school as she laid the foundation for her career by graduating with a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Kansas State University with an emphasis in Graphic Design in 1992. It was here that she met Shannon and the couple recently celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary. Upon graduating, Kim's first jobs were in graphic design with her art work pursued as a hobby. It was only when her paintings were generating more income than her employment that Kim decided it was time to quit her day job and focus on being a full-time artist in 2001. Kim is a Master Signature Member of the American Women Artists, and a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America and the Pastel Society of America. She has received multiple awards and publicity for her work that focuses on the big skies and wide open spaces of the western United States. Kim lives in Manhattan, KS with her husband Shannon, sons Collin and Lucas, and Australian Shepherd, Matilda. We temporarily leave the Billie Sol Estes Mini-Series and pivot now to a Mini-Series on Mac Wallace. Today's episode is the third in our story about Wallace as we cover the Douglas Kinser murder trial. Wallace was charged and convicted of the murder but received only a five year sentence which was suspended. In Texas at the time, this was a crime that for most people, would have put them in the electric chair. Defended by Lyndon Johnson's own attorney John Cofer and provided bail by two of Johnson's closer associates, the implications are that Johnson was at the very least taking steps to carefully control the trial and its outcome. Many believe that Johnson's objective was to keep his sister Josefa out of the trial and avoid perhaps exposing some of Johnson's corrupt practices. Others were more nefarious in their assessment of Johnson's motives, believing perhaps that Wallace was sent to silence Kinzer after Kinzer attempted to blackmail Johnson through Josefa. All of this possibly coming about, after Josefa said too much to Kinzer about Johnson's involvement in the 1948 stolen senate election and perhaps other dealings of Johnson. According to this line of thinking, Kinzer was attempting to strong arm Johnson and secure an SBA loan to improve the operations of his Pitch and Putt golf course. You now know most of the scandalous aspects of Estes and how Wallace might have fit in...and it wont be much longer, after the Wallace Mini-Series, that you will hear the story of Bobby Baker. These men were all members of Johnson's Texas inner circle. Oh, and there is more on the Billie Sol Estes affair, so be patient and stay tuned and you will hear it before we complete the larger series covering these four men. Wallace was indeed a convicted murderer and we take you through the crime in this episode. The murder of Doug Kinser. It will be up to you to determine if this was a crime of passion that did not define who the rather intellectual Wallace really was, or whether it was symptomatic of his core and the cold blooded killer that Billie Sol Estes made him out to be. All of these men were quite intertwined around Johnson at the time of the assassination. They were involved in circumstances that were closing in on Johnson too and that provided him great motive in the killing of the President. The story is extraordinary. After hearing of Wallace's possible involvement in multiple murders related to the Estes scandal and possibly even President Kennedy's murder, it is time to learn more about just who Mac Wallace really was. Sit back and enjoy this Mini-Series covering Wallace.Rumors of Johnson's involvement began to swirl almost immediately after the President's assassination and there is a defined school of thought within the JFK assassination research community that staunchly believes in Johnson's involvement. His involvement in both the assassination and its cover up. Join us in one of the most fascinating story tells of the Kennedy assassination and stick around as we will be returning to the Mexico City series right after we complete this min-series that was spawned by the recent release of the Billy Sol Estes and Cliff Carter tape that the two recorded in 1971. Folks, you just can't write this stuff. Even as early as 1964, rumors and serious concerns over the lone gunman theory and the evidence that might contravene it, were becoming a major concern for the government and the commission. Conspiracy theories were contrary to the government's stated narrative from the very beginning. This real-life story is more fascinating than fiction. No matter whether you are a serious researcher or a casual student, you will enjoy the fact filled narrative and story as we relive one of the most shocking moments in Americ

This is Part 12 in the series that covers the story of Billy Sol Estes, Mac Wallace, Bobby Baker and other members of Johnson's Texas inner circle. Part 12 continues the story of Billy Sol Estes and addresses the episode which occurred in 1984 when Estes balked after agreeing to tell all to the Department of Justice. Estes had just gotten out of prison for the second time and was pursuing a book deal through the Moody Foundation when he hooked up with prominent Washington attorney Douglas Caddy. The book deal was lucrative and Estes may have needed the money. But he also needed immunity because he was going to discuss murders....lots of them, including the murder of JFK. After being boxed in at the Marshall grand jury proceedings by DA John Paschall, Estes had to make lemons out of his lemonades. Listen in on what happened...and how Estes balked at the last minute after striking a deal with the assistant U.S. attorney of the Criminal Division at the Department of Justice. Hear Douglas Caddy tell much of the story in his own words. Caddy, a prominent Washington attorney took up the cause, but he too would be hoodwinked by Estes, when Estes at the last moment, refused to meet with the FBI and justice department officials. This is Part 11 in the series that covers the story of Billy Sol Estes, Mac Wallace, Bobby Baker and other members of Johnson's Texas inner circle. Part 11 continues the story of Billy Sol Estes and addresses the 1962 grand jury that addressed whether Henry Marshall's death was a suicide or a murder. It is in this episode that we introduce the famed Texas lawman Clint Peoples. People and his boss at the Texas Department of Public Safety were some of the few in law enforcement who saw the farce that was being put on by Sherriff Stegall and they stood up to it. It would be the beginning of a life long pursuit of the truth by Peoples. A pursuit to find the truth related to the Marshall murder and uncover the corruption that that lay there in the open as the onion was peeled back and powerful began to be exposed including LBJ.
