I'm brought back "Cottage Cocktails"! I haven't posted a Cottage Cocktails mix since 2019, but after djing an amazing cottage tent wedding last summer, I was inspired to record a cocktail mix that would be the perfect soundtrack for that cottage setting (but the couple that weekend had their own plans for cocktail music) so the following weekend I recorded this during cocktails at a wedding downtown Toronto. Recorded in the big city, but this is meant to be listened to up in Muskoka, or at the very least while floating in a pool, or perhaps just sitting around a backyard bonfire (or sipping on a coffee or tea in your favourite comfy chair). Perfect laid back vibes as we say goodbye to summer and hello to sweater weather. Hope you enjoy! Also, I'm sorry I'm so behind here on podomatic. I highlight the significant performance improvements and the debut of Apple Intelligence. Eric shares his thoughts on the Spatial Gallery app, appreciating its consistent high-resolution content, while Marty expresses his desire for more control over personal content within the app rather than being restricted to curated offerings. As we move into the beta testing phase, I share details on iOS 18.4 and its features, including updates to the Mail app, RCS support in Messages, and enhancements in Apple Intelligence. We discuss the struggles related to email categorization and whether new features can enhance user experiences. Each guest contributes their opinions on the changing landscape of Apple's operating systems, insights on beta testing, and feature preferences. Marty shares his excitement about the ambient music feature in Apple Music, which has proven to be beneficial for concentration while working. We lean into a deeper discussion surrounding this recent iOS update, considering how improved notification management can enhance the user experience. Eric reflects on the improved search capabilities within the Photos app and how it has significantly leveled up his photo management. Transitioning to the topic of Apple's potential future developments, we delve into the long-awaited non-invasive glucose monitoring for the Apple Watch. Past research and a multitude of hurdles facing this technology leave us wondering when and if it will ever become a reality. As we share our experiences with various health tracking devices, there's a consensus on the anticipation of groundbreaking advancements in this field. Toward the end of our episode, we chat about upcoming events such as MacStock on July 11-13, where all of us will be present, highlighting the campus community atmosphere and the opportunity for attendee engagement through workshops. We encourage listeners to join us for this event and share a special discount code for tickets. Topics and Links We have a first time guest this week we get to know Eric Bolden. What happens when music and psychoanalysis occupy the same creative headspace? This week on Lost and Sound, I chat with Ezra Feinberg—composer, guitarist, and practicing psychoanalyst—about the deep interplay between experimental music, the subconscious mind, and the subtle forces that shape creativity. We dive into Soft Power, his latest album—a lush, hypnotic fusion of minimalism, kosmische music, ambient soundscapes, and psychedelic influences and one of my favourite albums of the last 12 months. We talk about how intention and perception collide in music, whether the emotions a listener feels mirror what the artist originally set out to express, and what it means to truly trust the creative process.Ezra shares how his twin worlds of music and psychoanalysis aren't as far apart as they seem, touching on problem-solving, patience, and artistic intuition. We explore the realities of navigating a career in underground music alongside parenthood, and how New York's evolving music scene has shaped his journey.Plus, we get into formative influences, spontaneous collaborations and the long game of making music on your own terms. A conversation about sound, time, and the quiet forces that shape creativity. If you're enjoying Lost and Sound, please do subscribe and leave a rating or review on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, or wherever you listen. Emo ambient? That's just one way to describe the ever-evolving work of boundary-pushing artist Mari Maurice, better known as more eaze. Her prolific output defies the norms of the music world, blending ambient, noise, autotune, and pedal steel with a deeply personal, human touch. In this episode, Mari shares her unique approach to making music that dissolves the lines between pop and what's considered, in inverted commas, „serious“ music. Her collaboration with claire rousay on Never Stop Texting Me beautifully exemplifies this artistic ethos. We talk about the challenges Mari faced in Austin's experimental scene and the creative freedom she‘s discovered since relocating to New York. Immersed in the city‘s rich musical landscape, she's embraced collaboration and opened up new dimensions in her sound, drawing from both minimalist and maximalist influences to reshape her approach to composition.Mari also reflects on the joy of making experimental music more accessible, sharing how a live performance sparked her own musical journey and shaped her ethos as an artist. Along the way, we explore the serendipitous nature of sound creation and the growing acceptance of pop elements in avant-garde music. If you're enjoying the show, please consider subscribing and leaving a rating or review on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, or wherever you listen. We could all use a little relaxation, and what better sound to have on in the background than ambient music. I get into the precursors, the origins, the history, the genres and subgenres. Some of it keeps you engaged by its subtle variation. Some of it lulls you into relaxation or even sleep – by design or by accident. Are you into ambient music of any kind? What's your favorite? Does some work for you while other kinds get on your nerves? Or do you find it all too slow and dull? Discuss dammit! ~~~~ *intro music credit: REC - "You Make Me Wanna" (from RECcollection: The Best of REC 2007-2020) Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
