About This SeriesMany people in first-century Israel had expectations that the Promised One would be a conquering king, a strict enforcer, or a political liberator. But Jesus shattered these assumptions, revealing Himself as a humble servant, a compassionate healer, and a friend to the outcast. Two thousand years later, many people still misunderstand who Jesus truly is. This Christmas, we'll explore common misconceptions about the Messiah and uncover the powerful truths of His mission, offering a fresh perspective on the Savior who defied expectations and changed the world. This Week's EpisodeSome expected the Messiah to be a wealthy, powerful ruler who would live in splendor. Yet Jesus was born in a humble stable, lived a life of poverty, and taught that true greatness comes through serving others. And for his people following his example, serving is more than something we're told to do; it's who we're called to be.Ready For More?Check out firstchristian.com to find opportunities to connect and grow. We'd love to see you this coming Sunday on-campus or streaming online at 9 and 11am.Follow @fcccanton on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to stay connected!Support the show
This Christmas message explores the profound truth that the birth of Christ is the ultimate expression of God's love. Through Mary's extraordinary encounter with God, Pastor Matt Petty reveals five transformative truths about divine love: • God's love knows us intimately - even a humble teenage girl in Nazareth • His power manifests in unexpected ways - turning ordinary moments into divine appointments • His mercy extends beyond generations - from Abraham to Mary to us today • He lifts up the humble heart - choosing those the world overlooks • He faithfully keeps every promise - proving that no word from God will ever fail Through Mary's courageous response, we learn that true faith isn't about our worthiness but about saying "yes" to God's love. This message challenges us to move beyond seasonal celebrations to experience the transformative power of divine love that changes everything.
Jesus loves His disciples despite being left by them.

In the last century, a 4'10" woman from England answered the call of God to become a missionary in China. Her accomplishments there, especially in saving orphaned children during war and conflict, have made her sort of a legend.Near the end of her life, Gladys Aylward gave an interview in which she said the most amazing thing—something that could only have come from the heart of a truly humble servant:“I wasn't God's first choice for what I've done for China. There was somebody else…I don't know who it was—God's first choice. It must have been a man—a wonderful man. A well-educated man. I don't know what happened. Perhaps he died. Perhaps he wasn't willing…and God looked down…and saw Gladys Aylward.”Ephesians 4:1–3 says, “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”If you remember who you are in Christ, and remember that only through His strength can you accomplish anything worthy of leaving a legacy, you'll find contentment that most only dream of.Let's pray.Lord, give us a humble heart in everything we do. Sermon from BroDon Park about the link between the abiding life and humble servant of Christ.
We close out the week by looking at John 13, where Jesus demonstrated His deep love for the disciples, including Judas, who succumbed to temptation and betrayed Him. Jesus knew what was coming yet still took on the role of a servant by washing all the disciples' feet. May we follow the example of our humble servant King and serve those we are around this week. Rather the being prideful and puffed up, followers of Jesus are to follow His example of being the Humble Servant. We are to be grateful for God's grace and extend that grace to others, being more concerned about honoring Jesus & treating others with value than being focused on the trophies we receive.

What was your response to being mistreated or unappreciated? Did you lash out, or hope they get what they deserve, or did you sincerely ask God to forgive this person and to do good to them? Take comfort in knowing that God hears the cries of the innocent and he sees all the evil and suffering that everyone does and God will bring justice on anyone who doesn't turn away from their evil and seek his forgiveness.
