On this episode of the podcast we discuss a lesser known renewable energy source known as Wave Power. We dive into the workings of how kinetic energy is used and transformed into electricity as well as the pros and cons of this energy. We speak on a specific company that has redesigned the technology to nearly eliminate the cons of wave energy and their plans on how to continue to grow into other countries that would fit the model of wave energy production. We also discuss the amount of waste big companies like CVS are contributing when they can use many of the products for people who really need them. This week's listener news comes from Hakeem Ruiz also known as the Vice President of The Block Gives Back and previously guested on our show. This episode of the podcast is all about the positivity to come out of Comic-Con's 50th Anniversary. Starting with a company called Magic Wheelchair. A company started by a father of 5 who's first born was diagnosed with (SMA) Spinal Muscular Atrophy at 9 months old. In 2008 he was inspired to create a costumed designed around his son's wheel chair after asking his son what he wanted to be for Halloween. His son said a pirate and that's where the company took off, designing wheelchairs for families free of charge and bringing attention as well as making a kid feel a little bit more normal about their disease. Our main story is about Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, the owner and creator of the "La Borinqueña" comic. With a young comic starting in 2016 already an iconic figure for Puerto Rico, Edgardo was given the humanitarian award for using his platform to combat injustices done to the Puerto Rican people as well as bring attention to the conditions the island is in, especially after the tragedy of hurricane Maria. Edgardo teamed up with DC comics only after 2 years to help bring more awareness to rebuilding Puerto Rico with his comic "Ricanstruction", where La Borinqueña is joined with iconic DC heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman who help rebuild the Island that Puerto Ricans love so much. We also discuss how big of an area is suitable for reforestation and how other places in the world are already undergoing their tree planting campaigns, intentional or not. As far as listener news we have an article from Precious about how one of the largest wildlife preserves in Africa has made it a full year without a single elephant killed by poachers. Welcome back! In this episode we discuss the legendary "White City" or the "Lost City of the Monkey God" in the Mosquitia rainforest in Honduras. Listener's who participated in the last week's poll between Nature or Humanity, chose nature. So we dig deep into the dozens of creatures that we thought to be extinct as well as some new species of animals never discovered before, found in the "Lost City". We discuss all types of animals that we found and how, even in 2019 we are still finding places preserved by nature and untouched by mankind for decades, thriving, giving us hope that it is not too late to make more of an effort to conserve the places already tainted by man. As for our listener's shared news, we are once again happy to receive the article from our previous guest and listener Arod. She shared with us how 633 divers in Florida broke a world record for most divers cleaning an ocean floor. Hopefully this sets off a chain reaction to helping out more of our environment. This week on the podcast we're joined by boss babe, community creator and woman empowering women, Mandy Balak. If you're from Calgary (and beyond) and don't know her by name, you might recognize the businesses It's Date Night and The Ace Class, both founded by Balak.  When I first saw Mandy speak at a Babes Who Brunch event, I knew she was something special, and she seemed like Superwoman IRL. She shares what goes into that, what it takes, the importance of self care to avoid burnout and so much more.   Mandy is also doing a great giveaway over at @theaceclass_ on Instagram. Now - that giveaway will be early next week, so in order not to miss it, make sure you follow them at the previous link.
