People seem to want Becky Hammon to apologize for her take on Jalen Brunson. She said she was wrong about Brunson, but she's not apologizing for having an opinion. Gio had a take about KAT during the season that he stands by.
Jason Smith and Mike Harmon discuss Becky Hammon's comments about Jalen Brunson and now changing tune after Brunson won a championship. The guys also discuss why Cameron Boozer should have been the #1 overall pick before discussing why Christiano Ronaldo could be all the way back after a huge performance. Start spreading the news! The fat lady has sung, Hell (or is it Hell's Kitchen) has finally frozen over, and the New York Knicks, led by an unflappable starting five and point guard Jalen Brunson, defeated the young, talented San Antonio Spurs to win the franchise's first NBA Championship in 53 years! I know what you're thinking: How did we get to this point with a second-round point guard leading the Knicks back to the top of the NBA? Adam Murray and Andrew Riche, Place To Be Nation's NBA-Team, are here to deep dive a shockingly short but close NBA Finals with some twists, turns, and a ton of missed shots. Was this a good lesson for Victor Wembenyama in his first Finals appearance, and what was the actual lesson? Who will get a statue built in front of the Garden first between Brunson and O.G. Anunoby? Was all of the decades of suffering and big moves for Towns and Bridges worth at the end to get this banner? Riche and Adam also do their Gone Fishin' sessions for the Knicks, the Spurs and the Thunder and do a preview of the NBA Draft later this month. So suit up and take it out with the NBA-Team!
In this episode, Keenan and Kyle dive into a wide-ranging conversation covering NBA draft excitement, recent NBA and World Cup observations, and the historical significance of Knicks' championships. The Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks finally delivered New York's first NBA championship in 53 years, but Ric Bucher believes the rush to rank Brunson among the all-time greats misses the real story. In this episode of On The Ball, Ric explains why Brunson's greatness has less to do with historical comparisons and more to do with maximizing every ounce of ability, leadership, resilience and basketball IQ. He also examines how new head coach Mike Brown transformed the Knicks after replacing Tom Thibodeau, why championship rankings are a pointless exercise, and why dismissing New York's title because of today's NBA parity completely misses the point.Ric breaks down the Knicks' championship journey, the evolution of Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby, the impact of modern salary-cap restrictions on dynasties, and why every championship deserves respect regardless of the path taken.TIMESTAMPS00:00 – Introduction and where to find Ric Bucher 01:32 – Knicks win first title in 53 years and immediate Brunson legacy debates 02:23 – Why Game 5 changed the perception of Jalen Brunson 03:00 – The problem with ranking active players historically 04:12 – Bias, objectivity and evaluating NBA greatness 05:14 – What makes Brunson special despite limited physical advantages 06:20 – The mental traits that separate Brunson from his peers 07:08 – Why championship heartbreak can fuel future success 07:56 – Knicks compared to the 2008 Celtics championship core 08:38 – Why continuity alone rarely wins championships 09:35 – Examples from Celtics, Warriors and Cavaliers title runs 09:57 – Mike Brown's impact on transforming the Knicks 10:55 – Why Jordan Clarkson and Jose Alvarado mattered 11:40 – Steve Kerr's philosophy versus Tom Thibodeau's approach 12:00 – Jonathan Kuminga's development and role-player expectations 13:10 – How Brown changed the Knicks' culture and rotation 14:05 – Why championship rankings are meaningless 14:50 – Comparing the Knicks' run to the 1995 Rockets 15:40 – Breaking down New York's Eastern Conference path 16:55 – Why the Knicks were built to challenge San Antonio 17:45 – The "every title deserves an asterisk" argument 18:10 – Why calling the Knicks championship a participation trophy is absurd 19:10 – NBA parity and the value of championships 20:00 – How salary-cap rules have made dynasties harder than ever 20:55 – Why winning multiple titles today is increasingly difficult 21:20 – The internal evolution that made the Knicks champions 22:00 – Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby and sacrifice for the greater good 22:45 – The power of "we over me" in building a champion 23:20 – Final thoughts: Every championship deserves respect 24:00 – OutroHASHTAGS#NBA #NewYorkKnicks #JalenBrunson #NBAFinals #Knicks #MikeBrown #OGAnunoby #KarlAnthonyTowns #NBAPlayoffs #Basketball #OnTheBall #RicBucherSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/bucher-and-friends. This interview is with Mike Brunson of Valley View Winery. In this interview, Mike discusses what it is like to be a winemaker and how that passion brought him to Oregon. Mike talks about his journey into the wine industry and how he had a natural gift for it. Mike has a good sense of smell and strong palate. This paired well with his former boss, Fred Payne, who passed the job down to Mike. Fred had his PHD in food science and Mike had the natural abilities. Mike reminisces about Fred serving as a meaningful mentor.Mike discusses the working relationship between him and his son who also works at Valley View. While they may argue over what music to play while working, Mike is proud of his children for the people they have become. Even his daughter is in the industry as she runs a separate winery.Later in the interview, Mike talks about what it is like to be head winemaker and having the wines you make available to consumers. He imagines that seeing people buy your wines is like being a music artist and having people sing your songs. This interview was conducted by Rich Schmidt at Valley View Winery on June 11, 2026.

Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories we covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch. Jim Geraghty was on vacation, so we heard from very capable guest hosts, including Jim's National Review colleague, Charlie Cooke. This week Charlie and Greg discuss three stories that suggest many on the left are losing their grip on reality, including Jim Acosta's absurd analysis of Trump's name being removed from the John F. Kennedy Center, the left's meltdown over Elon Musk becoming the world's first trillionaire, a new poll highlighting the huge partisan divide over patriotism, and NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson wishing he still paid taxes in Texas.First, they cover the left's obsession over the removal of President Trump's name from the Kennedy Center. Former CNN anchor Jim Acosta compared it to the fall of the Berlin Wall and called it “a sign that humankind can stand up against tyranny.”Next, they rip Democrats for their hysterical reaction following the SpaceX IPO, with the likes of Bernie Sanders and Ellizabeth Warren rushing to demand wealth taxes as soon as Musk crossed the trillion-dollar mark. Charlie condems the left's tendency towards punishing success and stifling ambition. Then, they comment on a new NBC poll on American patriotism showing the stark difference in responses between Republicans and Democrats. Pride in America among Democrats seems to be largely dependent upon the occupant of the White House. As an immigrant who is now a U.S. citizen, Charlie explains how disgraceful that thinking is. Finally, Charlie and Greg delight in a clip of NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, who after delivering the New York Knicks their first championship in 53 years, admitted, “I miss the Texas taxes.” Texas does not tax personal income, while New York has one of the nation's highest tax burdens. Please visit our great sponsors:BetterHelpYou don't have to say yes to everything this summer. The Knicks finally did it. Bomani Jones reacts to the New York Knicks winning the NBA championship, Jalen Brunson's legendary 45-point closeout performance, and what this title means for New York City. Bo breaks down how Brunson cemented himself as the king of New York, why the Knicks' depth, conditioning, and maturity ultimately separated them from the Spurs, and how Mike Brown coached a championship-level series. Bomani also reflects on the unique relationship between the Knicks and New York City — from Madison Square Garden to the streets, bars, parks, and neighborhoods that turned this championship run into a citywide experience. Why does this title feel different from other championships? Why do the Knicks hit New Yorkers so deeply? And what does this moment say about basketball as theater, culture, and community? Plus, Bomani discusses the start of the World Cup, the excitement around the U.S. men's national team, and the experience of international fans discovering America through sports, road trips, Waffle House, Buc-ee's, and the South.
